  • One thing to keep in mind about the case gauges is that they a made to SAAMI standards unfortunately not all guns are built to SAAMI standards.
    A lot of reloading is trial and error, especially when it comes to sizing and adjusting the flare on the case.

      Dillon makes a special tool that aligns your 650. It doesn't come with the 650, but Dillon will send it to you for free. Kind of makes Dillon look cheap. Why not just give you the alignment tool up front? Dillon must have hired some Lee executives to cut costs and fuck over customers. Anyone else realize that Dillon is so cheap that they don't even put their brand logo on stickers. Free advertising and Dillon jumps the shark. Spent over $1500 on Dillon 650 and accessories just to be told that Dillon doesn't send out stickers or decals. WTF? That's like buying a Porsche and then being told that Porsche doesn't do ball caps. I guess small minded businesses don't need advertising. Remember Dillon, a business with no signs is a sign of no business. Jeez.

    The flaring die is your powder funnel die. They are caliber specific. as the 303 brit goes you don't flare riffle rounds. just save your self the headache and buy boat tail bullets much easier to load.

    first of all I have to say this is the best video I have seen online for showing how to set up die sets!! Thank you so much! Now the way you set these dies up would that be the same for a single stage press or on the dillon 1050 progressive? My other question is do you happen to own or have acess to a dillon 1050 where you would show a caliber change over for that specifically showing what you would have to take off and change out for a primer and shell holder change?

      You can remove live primers from a shell. How I do this is to run the shells through the first station on the 650 with the sizing die. I suggest doing this Slowly. It is possible to set the primer off while trying to remove it.

    The heads do not come preset, what we do is buy multiple heads and set them up for specific cal. Instead of pulling the dies out for a diff cal we just set up a new head leaving the previous alone so we can quickly swap between cal. you can buy spare heads from dillon

  • @aff1690
    @aff1690  11 лет назад

    depends on what you have, if you have the 9mm caliber bar use it, otherwise you can use the next size down. Keep in mind though that if it's to small it can actually give you a false alarm.

    i would actually suggest this, it's not shown in the video but we have tons of heads preset with dies it makes swapping calibers allot faster.

  • @aff1690
    @aff1690  12 лет назад

    The only thing you should have to do on the dillon 650 is adjust you dies to compensate for the difference in the case height. Unfortunately that's all of the dies.

    This is called case bulging what happens is the shell is not sized correctly creating a slight bulge at the base of the shell.Most often it's 1 of 2 things.. as most people tend to get a bit lax when running a few hundred shells is they don't pull the handle down far enough or the shell it's self is not once fired and has been used to the point where the brass is weak and expands well out side the range of the norm and should be tossed for safety reasons.

    Excellent presentation - thank you. The problem I'm having at the moment is that some shells don't pass the "drop" test (I use the barrel of my gun instead of the dillon checker) while some shells appear to be perfect. Is this just a problem with the brass or is there some way to set the Dillon to get more consisten results?

    Nice video. I bought a 650 a couple months ago and I am having on and off problems with the primers not getting seated deep enough (on some cases but not all) I average about 4 or 5 out of every 100 that aren't being seated deep enough, causing the OAL to be too long and hence feeding problems in my gun. I have tried most of the common recommendations and continue to have problems. I do not have this problem on my 550b. Anything I can adjust on the dies that would help. I have Dillon dies except for bullet seating which is Redding.

    Hi
    I'm going to be doing a conversion on my XL from 9mm (Dillon dies) to 45 ACP (Lees carbide dies) Do you have a video on this particular conversion setting up the Lee dies or is there anything special I need to do using Less dies on my XL? Thank you

  • @ricklander5030

    It looks like your crimping die is a seating die with the bullet seating part removed. Why do you crimp separate from the seating stage when the die can do both at the same time?

    • @aff1690
      @aff1690  7 лет назад

      Rick Lander you are correct they can be done at the same time but the 650 allows for them to be done at a separate stage. This allows you to troubleshoot any issues you have with out resetting both the crimp and the seating.

    hello this is Rick again I've been loading today with my Dillon 650 XL and I'm getting some primers loading upside down is there a way to retrieve them out of the casing without them going off and also what do you think may be causing this

    • @Soulflayerr
      @Soulflayerr 9 лет назад +1

      It's not worth the hassle/risk to save a 3cent primer. Gently pop out the primer on a single stage if you must salavge the brass.

    • @johnavelisjr.9178
      @johnavelisjr.9178 7 лет назад

      Never try to use a salvaged primer. If you are using small primers, and getting upside down primers, check and make sure you are using the small diameter primer tube, not a large one. Ask me how I know.

    That RCBS die wasn't installed according to RCBS instructions. Why would you ignore the die manufacturer's instructions? Because you are an unsafe reloader. Are you saying most Dillon 650 owners have had primer detonation during reloading? I'm calling BS on this video. Resizing a flaired case with a live primer in it without removing the decapping pin is another of your unsafe practices. How can I insure you to make a quick killing? You've got my attention now that I want to see the train wreck coming.

    • @TargetTime
      @TargetTime 5 лет назад

      Decapping live primers is done all the time. Take your time. Dont rush it.
      I'm wondering the same on the sizing die though. Lee for instance is like touch shell plate us 1/4turn for cam over. Set all dies off of that in the later stations.

      tjzulu1 Odd, I found this video to be one of the best and most informative. He has obviously set up a bunch of loaders and from what I can see, really knows what he's talking about. His ease in working with these parts and systems leads me to believe he is likely a professional.
