In this video you'll see how to install and adjust the Dillon powder check system on a Dillon XL-650 progressive reloading press that's setup to load 45ACP ammunition. When you use this powder check system, you don't have to worry about running out of powder, a faulty powder charge, a squib load (no powder), and most importantly a double charge. Just got a Dillon 650XL. Thanks for your videos. It's one thing to read instructions, but so much better to see someone set it up. Videos are awesome!!!
Thank you very much for this great video. My press arrived this week but I haven't had time to get things unpacked and setup. Watching your videos is very helpful. Well made. Thank you.
Thanks for information on the powder check system and how to set it up. Dillon is a great product. Thanks again for sharing.
I know this is an older video, but it still helped me. Thank you.
Similar to Kalroy. Older video, but just got my xl750 and was looking for a video on the powder check system. Thanks
Clever.. Considering the number of shells going thru that process. I would consider this a MUST have.
Yes, progressive reloading presses are a MUST for pistol reloading (and they are great for rifle too...)
That charge checker should be included. We have one and it comes with a Primer buzzer. LOL that is not dangerous, you would think they would want zero hot loads and this device helps do that. Should be mandatory because one hot load is all it takes to destroy a gun.
Its a great system and really puts your mind at rest that your charges are good. thanks for the video!!
Nice demo of the powder check system, I would like to see a demo on how to adjust it. I have a 650 but don't have the powder check system, I think it would be a nice item for peace of mind.
Thanks this will help me out since I have TBI lol
I have the powder check system on my xl650 and 1050 and it saves my ass!
That is one of Dillon's best tools (powder check system) !
I'm mostly asking not the progessive press but just in general the brands since you have used them all.
Thanks for the video, help me out a lot
you are good teacher!
Awesome video! Thank you
Thanks
how did you attach your bin on the side? Dillon's website says you need the strong mount to have the bullet tray and brass bin mounted. I see you worked around this problem.
Awesome, Ido you have a video on setting up this on the super 1050?
Well since 9mm is .356" caliber I'm guessing you should probably use the .30 - .41 caliber 21374 rod.
Does this system work with other presses (like the Hornady LNL Progressive press)? An audible sound would be much nicer then having to watch a level come up to a certain point. Theres already enough to watch for.
Hi
my xl-650 came set up with 9mm. My power Checksystem came with 3 Powercheck
rod assemblies.
21372 for .22 - .29 Cal
21373 for .30 - .41
21374 for .44 - .45
Right now they have the 21374 for .44 - .45 is this correct assembly rod or
should i change it. Which one should be the 9mm rod ?
Thank you
Is it RCBS dies You are useing in your dillon??
have you ever tried to detect a slight overcharge? (not just double charges) Such as if you have a 10-25% overcharge. And how about slight undercharges like 10-25% less than you wanted, instead of just testing on an empty case. Thanks.
yea thats what I want to know too ?
what is the plus or minus once it set
How much is the powder check system and is there only one tool head designed for it, or can it be used all tool head for the xl650?
Do you still use this
are you going to make any more videos?
Rolex Daytona. Nice.
Whre can I buy this? I'm from Philippines I want to buy this.
the rod casts the powder out of the socket and charges are not equal out, check this system malfunctions, the powder stuck to the rod stays ...
+kurabo47 I haven't seen this problem, even at best reloading speeds I can manage. If the rod is completely dry and free from oils it may carry a particle or two of powder from one shell to the next, but as it then carries a few to the next, so consistency is not a problem for me. Variance from the powder system after check is generally .05 to .1 grains for the 20064 standard powder measure, and it appears that variance is introduced at the powder bar. I'm interested to know what you have experienced.
I haven’t experienced this and I’ve paid close attention.
I had the same issue, particularly when it got humid out. Try running the brass rod over a buffer to polish it up (don't round the flat face though) and wipe it down with de-greaser before reinstalling it. If it's clean and dry (and mirror polished) powder won't stick at all

The Dillon Powder Check is a piece of garbage! Mine gave up after only 300 rounds. The metal rod ate most of the plastic away where it contacts the buzzer.
I know this comment is five years old, but if you haven't (and RUclips notifies you about this comment) call Dillon. They have a great reputation for customer service.
