- A few more upgrades to the Dillon XL650. A link to each item that I bought off of Ebay is below. The parts are all very well made and appear to really smooth out the function of the press!

Fred just installed these upgrades as you stated what a difference in the operation.. So Smooth. and another bonus is that it corrected the little difference I was having with cartridge Overall Length as now the plate doesn't push down and my seating of the bullet has become more consistent in the COL.

OAL has been my biggest problem also. I have all of the upgrades ordered. The shell plate deflection upon setting the sizer/decapping die or the 1500 case sizer has my OAL way off wack.

You just keep giving!!! Bought the upgrades for my 650 XL. Yeah, I'm impressed because I've had the powder go everywhere. Keep these videos coming for those of us that just want to get better performance from a damn great press.

Thank you Fred (B1X) This is formerly (KA7TYN) Harvey in Tucson Arizona. Thank you for the information on what you did to your Dillion 650XL. I couldn’t”t afford a new one so I bought a demonstrator sill working on the bench that will used for it. I will tell you about it once I get it together, lots of improvements so the workbench can be more versatile.
Bought the parts. Well worth the investment. Smoothed things out quite a bit. Very easy install thanks to you. 1/30/2017

adnrlyn Thanks for leaving a comment. glad that I could help. It does make a difference. Just take a note of where the factory one is before removing it. The timing will be off if you don't adjust it properly.

Just bought the Upgrade kit and the rotocam. It didn't come with any instructions on the rotocam, so how do I know that it is properly adjusted?

Hey thx for the info. Also looks like the slider for the shell loader is set up for pistol. The short side is for 223 and longer. It has a tendency to jam with the case feeder if it's not set right.

Just to throw out there, it is easier to not remove the entire case feeding mech. Just unscrew the on rod and screw in the new one and you wont have to worry about the hinge and spring coming a part.
hey, do you still get a little jolt with these? as mine I see a little jolt if let go and not stopping with a bullet placement in mid transfer .... this is on 45 acp I can make a video if you want to let me know as cartridges still want to ping into position a little
Hello Pat. I do still get the "jolt" you are talking about. I have a video coming up shortly that I will try and show. I don't think that it full fixes the issue but it is a improvment.

Is the bearing on the came rod the same size as the rod?
I purchased a kit from hitfactor and the bearing is a little larger. It creates a sideways motion going up and down which isnt smooth. The stock cam rod is smoother.

This is great information. I am looking at replacing my Hornady AP press with a Dillon. Not sure if I can afford it. I want to reload .223, 9MM, .40 S&W and .45 ACP.
Any suggestions?
Terry Walker I load 223, 9mm, 45 and 308. It's great. The nice thing about the dillons is that you can piece it together as the wallet allows....
Would you go with the Dillon 1020 or go with the XL650? If you had your druthers.
The 1050 is a bit of over kill for most. The 650 will make any reloader, a very happy camper!!

Question from one reloader to another? Why do yo think we are getting screwed so much for brass. Even once fired brass.. like 22/250 add .18 cents to the price and you can buy loaded ammo. It is crazy!
Caveman Ballistics I haven't done a lot of reloading outside of NATO rounds (556,308,9mm,45). So I'm unsure of the cost. I do have another video up on "where do you get your brass" and some ideas have popped up for places to get brass...

These mods have been around a while. Why do you think Dillon isn't upgrading their machines or offering these mods as accessories?
Martin Van Luyn good question. I do think that some of these updates are protected by copyright.
Hmmm...... I assume the powder spill issue wouldn't be a copyright issue, yet so easily fixed but they don't change the detent ball or spring power or offer them as an accessory for the handgun reloader! The extra shipping that you need to pay to eBay "inventors" to upgrade the Dillon machines is just so unnecessary. As a soon to be Dillon XL650 owner, it just doesn't instil me with confidence. (I just wrote a letter to Dillon to ask them why they aren't upgrading the machines or offering accessories to fix these issue. I'll let you know what they say. :-)
Martin Van Luyn yes please let me know what they say. But to be honest I have more of an issue with powder with rifle cases vs pistol. If you check out the eBay seller Snowshooze all of his stuff is free shipping and I'm sure his prices are not what dillon would charge for the same piece.
+Bravo1Xray I got a reply back from Dillon about the powder spill issue. They said,
"If the shell plate bolt tension is set correctly and the handle is operated smoothly, then powder won’t spill. Plastic detent balls quickly wear and become eccentric and if you lightly grease the top of the shell plate where the bolt head contacts it. You don’t need a bearing"
I guess if you use a thick grease it might work? Obviously, they don't consider it a design issue. I wonder if the customers would agree? Might be a video to see if grease will fix the issue. What you think?

I bought a caming pin with roller bearing from Snowshooze and it came made wrong. The thread diameter varied by .020 from the ends to a larger diameter in the middle. what was worse was the part the case feeder pivits on was half on the threads, because he threaded it too far down, which would cause the soft aluminum part to be turning on steal threads . It was a mess. I contacted him and send many pictures. He said he did not have a 650 to test, but was getting one and would send me a new part. Weeks went buy and I contacted him (all through ebay) and he had another reason for a delay. 6 months went by and I sent a total of 17 messages through ebay, and he finaly quit replying with excuses, he just quit replying. I filed a claim with ebay and they said "Sorry, your time to file a claim has now expired. they said contact PayPal, I did and they said the 6 months to dispute it expired "yesterday". So, I am SOL. I do not know how to email him directly. I was always very nice to him and do not understand why after "17" ebay messages to him and him saying he would send it, he just stalled and never sent it. I gave him all they tine he needed, and I lost out because of being nice. So if showshooze reeds this email me.. kcØll at hotmail dot com
I was considering buying one till I saw all the negative reviews and his lack of responsivness. Sounds like HIS No BS policy is just BS. Too bad.

There is a new version available. Same price. The guys has lots of options now. Just click on his name on his Ebay page and it will show the new stuff.
What is sad is, Dillon should have used these upgrades when they designed the press in the first place. Why they used things that had direct friction instead of a nice smooth roller bearing is a mystery.
Thanks for sharing. There is a new idea being sold for the 650 on ebay and it is called spill stop. It replaces the pin in the shell plate just before the case is raised up to have powder dropped. It looks like a rubber washer that squeezes or hold the casing tight against the shell plate so it wont wiggle. Has anyone tried this yet. Seems like a really good idea.
