okay, so im vegan and my BF is not. He's Ghanian. We have been together for 4 years now and ive been so nervous to attempt Ghanian food but thats all this man wants to eat ( Dont blame him its the best food ive ever tasted) and I just wanna be good to him lol. Anyway after watching this I wanted to try it myself and it seemed like an easy one to make, to veganize, and we also have the local food processor you used so i felt empowered to make it. I couldnt find kontonmire, not even at the african market near by. My BF was sceptical, but I insisted that it should work well since Nanaaba said so. My BF also isnt a fan of dawadawa because of how it is prepared, so instead i used tempe ( feremented soy bean ). With all that said... HE ENJOYED IT!! He said it tasted really close. He was dancing as he ate it. I was so happy to see him happy like that. He hasnt been home in 8 years. The Ghanian resturants around here only make like 4 dishes and this isnt one. So im sure he not only enjoyed the taste but the nostalga. THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting videos and PLS PLS PLS more veganized ghanian dishes. I will make more of your recipes and your recipes only.

Nice channel and I hope I get lots of experience from you. We can get plantain and the root vegetable usually it has black skin in local African store. I did not buy it because we have to buy entire root and it is too big. Maybe you could make video series about the local ingredients you have around your area and then also share how you store them for later use? Thank you very much. Knowledge is everything ;)

They taste like egg plants with a mild hint of sweetness and no residual bitterness. It’s added to dishes mainly for its nutritional and medicinal properties ie: rich in iron, great antioxidants and anti inflammatory properties, the list is endless. Thanks for such a great question!🙏🏿

They’re not easy to find fresh, because they’re super perishable, however, I found mine at a Ghanaian store which just happened to get a shipment in the very minute I walked into the store! Now, I can tell you that the African stores stock the canned ones always which I’ve used in the past and have been very happy with. They’re called kwawu Nsiswaa or abeduro.
