Barn Find! 1967 International Harvester Scout! Will it Run?!?

- A local expressed interest in either selling me his 1967 International Scout or hiring us out to get it back on the road for him once again. The story goes that the last time it ran it developed a miss in the engine so he parked it. Let's see if we can get this one back on the road after a short slumber in a local barn! As always, thanks for watching!

I just learned VW bought the rights to the international scout and are going to build one, Aaaaannnd it’s an ev. Damn this cruel world.
What?!? no way
That's just sick and wrong.
I would love to find a decent one in Tennessee
@@MortskeRepair Yep, they acquired it in 2021. 😔
Well if there is a car company that can make a body that will rust as fast as an international scout it’s Volkswagen
How you and Duff don't have a million subs already I'll never understand.
If Duff had his own channel he would have all the subs 🤣
I totally agree!! 👍
Videos should be shorter and less talk more work 😉👍🏻
he talks to long.
Thinking the same. He does talk more but at least he explains the process
I remember the old International Scout commercials 😂 “ International Scout! Anything less is just a car”
Derek Bieri would be proud. this is a real gem!!!
It’s a barn find. Ignore the haters and keep creating your great content for the 99.9% who love what you and Duff give us each week.
464 views in 11mins your blowing up these days👏👏 well deserved
Yea like your mom does every weekend
Between you and puddin I’m loving all this IH content!
You beat me to it!
Glad you enjoy it!
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Duke boys never thought to unlock the door. Damnit that was funny
haha
Duff Dog is ALL Wound Up in this vid!!
Its nice. It would be a 152 cid half a 304 or a 196 half a 392. Love the old scouts. They deserve more credit than they get.
Your Monday videos make my day.
The hard part is having to wait till evening to watch them.
Say hi to duff
You are driving me nuts! IT'S A LIFTER!
My wife found one for my Dad. It was an army issued 1967. 4 cylinder, 2 gear shifters (one for the PTO), camo, and removable hardtop. The slave cylinder was bad, but a ford ranger will swap out. Nice rig.
Really cool I like those old scouts
Heck yeah! You guys need one!
I think they were one of the best looking ones made!!
I’m pretty sure that’s a lifter that clattering. I’ve heard those little 4 bangers run back in the early 70s and they were quite and smooth so that’s just what I remember.
Gotta love the ol 13 letter shit-spreader! Cool how basic they made them, easy to work on.
That piece of metal hanging out of that pickup screen looks like a wire brush bristle. My grandfather had a 82 bronco with a 351 in it. It needed a rebuild and My dad cleaned the parts with a wire brush. One of the bristles made it's way down into the pan, through the screen, jammed up the oil pump gear, sheared the pin and the truck shut off from no oil pressure.
Thats one nice scout inside and out overall is pretty clean definitely worth fixing up.
I love the effort you give, to help give these old gems a new life
Much appreciated Sam
One stick to shift, one stick to go from two wheel to 4wheel drive, one stick to shift between high and low range. Locking hubs engages and locks front wheels into the front differential. The good ole days!
hey, cool scout! lovethe racing stripes!
International Harvester - confounding mechanics and saving farmers since before the automobile... Farmer logic "OH yeah, it just does that.." 😉 Great episode as always!
Well said!
I had several binders over the years. My favorite was my 62 scout 80. The 152 with the 3 speed. The wipers were individually actuated. If you were driving uphill, forget about having wipers. Downhill they would go like hell lol. The gas tanks looked kinda like a couple of jerry cans. I loved that thing.
I had the 80, the 800, a scout II, a travel all and a 77 3/4 2 wheel drive.
I agree 100% on after market sunroofs. It seems a lot ruffer than I thought in the beginning of the video.
Man I love this one as much as you Ford bronco great find !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had a Scout 800A a freind had a Bronco with a 302. The scout would climb better, better in dirt and swamps. Even got 15+mph with a 410 diff.
The Jeep CJ5 came out in 1954, so yes it was available in 67. The CJ3B was made alongside the CJ5 until 1968. One advantage IH had with Scouts was selling through a network of tractor and implement dealers in rural areas where there may not have been Jeep/Ford/GM dealers.
You're the man for posting a video for a guy to warm up to after working in the rain all day. You and the team are awesome at what you do!
I appreciate that!
Had a mint '67 Scout 800 back in high school in the mid 80s. Been kicking myself ever since for selling it.
Duff always makes sure you are safe from animals. Great day to you two.
Thanks, you too!
I learned how to drive a stick when I was 8 on the back roads of N Va. I LOVE the Scout!
Those pistons look strange, like there's a lot of clearance in the bores.
The spiders in that mud dauber nest are what the mud dauber larvae feed on. Some species of wasp use caterpillars, others use spiders. They sting the prey to paralyze them so the larvae have live food.
Right on
This is just what I needed after this weekend! As a major harvester freak I've had 5 scouts, the travel all, and the 71 1010 pick up. Thanks for the great video.
dang!
My grandpa had two of the 2+2 IH tractors up here in North Dakota. He bought the 3588 brand new and bought the 3788 model used. He had the duals just on the back of the 3788. I had never seen duals on both the front and back like on your buddies.
Cool
New subscriber. I do love scouts. Used to have one Scout II and I sold it back in 2010. Still regretting that decision. Great video. Greetings from L.A.
Thanks for the sub!
That is one of the nicest old scouts I’ve seen in a long time . Man she is a beautiful one that Half a eight is a good engine too I had one
I'm super excited for this one! My uncle owns three '67 International pickups and they're fun to work on and amazing farm trucks.
sweet!
You lucky SOB!!! NICE BARN..😅😅😅😅😅
Love the old cool trucks and how the keep on going
Alot of more "up to date " cars / trucks are already rusted out stuck and trashed
Right on
Whats rust?
All of the scouts I've ever seen up here in New England have been absolutely Swiss cheese. Really cool to see a decent looking one.
Here Indiana don't even see them that much yes they do rust
Absolutely great Hunting Fishing camping vehicle
Now that's a definite keeper ! Would love to see you really bring this Scout back as a project type content !
Got me a sammich. Time to watch Mortske.
Would love to find another old scout. Had 4 from a 1961 with a half cab to 1964, and then a 1970 with the 304 v8. Man I miss them.
My International story is changing out a water pump on a '47 bullet nose . Chrome strips for the grille. Pretty neat.. My brother and I were taking turns getting the bolts out and it was raining I the south door of the drive through wagon shed. Suddenly there was a lightening bolt and all kinds of white light danced all over the engine and right around my hands with no shocks felt
Then the rain started coming in the other door. Then the tornado showed up and took a big chunk of roof off the barn fifty feet away.
It was just a little EF zero with strands of metal and such with no darkness in the funnel. So we went back to work and finished up the job. Farmer things.
My experience with the original IH Scout is limited to 2 vehicles about 30 years ago. They both had a knock that sounded like bottom end noise. They both turned out to be distributor gear and lower shaft bushings. Replacing the parts would only fix the noise for about the interval of a single oil change.
interesting
Good stuff I was thinking from the beginning hearing the starter turning that slow that it was a bad starter with the bendx sticking
Thanks for another Mortske Monday! Those old binders are cool...even new they didn't seal or heat very well. Good luck and thanks to the editing department 🍺🐾
Thanks Stu!
The shadows and the silhouette of the dog as you're driving is killing me.
Thanks, another great one.
I love these old rigs. All the ones here in VA are either too expensive or too rusty. Great video brother.
Same here in Louisiana.
They aren't here in California !
I absolutely love that Scout!! If it EVER comes up for sale, please let me know!! I want it!! Great video!! Love the dedication!!
He wants to sell it
Me2
How much?
When you live in a place where the average temperature is 0°F in the winter time, I am guessing the heater in anything pre 70 is a little weak for the weather there! Good morning to you all and enjoy your day!
Best will it run on RUclips it's a will it run and a history off the model off cars
Much appreciated Jason!
your channel is building love the scout what an amazing truck off road beast
You've been coming across a lot of Internationals lately. I thought they were ugly at first, but they are really growing on me. I'm starting to become an International fan.
They ain't half bad!
Nice looking Scout. I’m guessing it will run.
Nice truck ! Them babies are going for big dollars. They're as rare as hens teeth. 👍😉✌
You got that right!
Duff is the ultimate old car dog... always so excited to check em out.
CAMPAIGN FOR DUFFY 4 HIS OWN YOU TUBE CHANNEL WITH MORTSKE VOICE OVER
I know there is not a whole lot to the old international but I have always loved and wanted one!
Thankz Mortske
Beautiful places you find this stuff
Yes, thank you
Had an 2003 Silverado 4.8 that ticked like a time bomb, lasted over 230k miles. You and Duff are doing a great job, keep it up. 👍
Bought a new Silverado in 2003 with 4.8. ran perfect till around 130 ish miles. Developeted a piston slap . Supposed a weak point on first engines
My old SGT at Ft hood Tx had one identical....same motor. So we go hill climbing....we get about 80% up a steepee....and she starts bucking for traction. So I says: we gonna jump out? He says: roll the window down...I says: what good is that gonna do??? He says: climb out onto the hood...I says WHAT!!! He says: thats an order. I CLIMB OUT shakin like a leaf....we made er up....I never went again...
I thought the Silverado was a Chevy!
@@larryalexander4833the first engines were in 1962
I had a 76 Scout II 345 automatic loved that thing it would go anywhere! ✌🏼🇺🇸
Good One That is a nice truck Duff approved
Dang! Looks like the red ‘65 I had! Had a pickup top on mine. Original fuel tank leaked, so ran it with a boat tank. Good memories!
good stuff!
Neat stuff. I wonder if the knocking noise is from the fuel pump lever to the cam ascentric or does it use a rod to drive the fuel pump with slop there? Either way, still a neat old rig. Enjoyed watching
Thinking the same
The fuel pump runs off vacuum, he said that
@Earl Green
The fuel pump runs off vacuum, he said that
@@birdmandave my bad, I forgot that detail 😅
Think the fuel/vacuum pump had the same level action as a normal fuel pump
I love the duff shadows casted on the roof during the night drive
Omg that jump scare I threw my tablet across the room lmao
hopefully it survived
Those magnetic spark plug sockets are definitely a great tool. I first heard about them on Puddin's channel when he was working on the Towrolla and I believe he mentioned you had either sent him one or you had told him about them. It helped me out greatly when I was changing out spark plugs on my Scion TC since they have the built in extension since Toyota likes to put the plugs like 5 miles deep into the engine
Yeah, we sent him a set. They're awesome!
@@MortskeRepair we had them in late 60s one of my first purchases from PEP Boys as a Young un
@teomcdohl They can be fun!
Quirky rig. My dad used these as teenager at sheep stations in Idaho, he swears by em. Great dog, I love Brittanys. Neighbor had one and a Field Lab the size of a Great Dane. That Brittany was always at the fence giving kisses and playing with us, she was a good girl.
Back on der Scout!
They all sounded like that. Knock knock 😂😆
ugh, terrible!
The Scout 800 replaced the Scout 80 during 1965. The new 800 model was built from 1965 to 1968. These models had many improvements of comfort and design, including bucket seats, better instrumentation and heating systems, updated dashboard, optional rear seats, and optional 196 four-cylinder (from 1966), or 232 inline-six. Beginning in March 1967, a 266 ci V8 engine was also offered. Externally, changes were limited to an anodized aluminum grille with a rectangular "International" logo placed on the grille, the IH badge was moved to the hood, the door handles became the button type, and the tailgate no longer included the "hooks".[1] The base engine was a naturally aspirated "Comanche" 152 four-cylinder with 93 hp (69 kW), of which a turbocharged version with 111 hp (83 kW) (the 152-T) was also offered. In August 1966, the turbo version was complemented by the bigger 196 which used less fuel with exactly the same power. The 196 motor achieved 20 mpg.[2] The turbo version was discontinued during early 1968. The fold-down windshield was still available, code 16536, but few were ordered because this was not advertised. The vacuum-powered wipers were moved to the bottom of the windshield frame with the fixed windshield.
International Harvester Scout 800 Sportop
Beginning in early 1966, International also offered the Scout 800 Sportop, which had an upgraded interior and a unique fiberglass top (also available as a convertible) with a slanted rear roof and a continental spare tire kit.[2] The "Champagne Series" Scout was an upscale model offered in the Scout 80 and later Scout 800 models that featured a headliner, door panels, and carpet.
thanks for the info!
Dammit that fargin spider has gotten me every time.
next time!
Very KOOL Scout They do have KILLER 4x4
I better try it out!
Mortske with the jump scare insert…..hahahahaha. Never ever just a routine video with this guy.😂😅😅😂🤣
keeps ya on your toes!
Enjoyed your video. Keep them coming. Dont change anything about your channel. You and Duff make my Monday's something to look forward to.
Will do
Just bought the 67 barnfind scout. Only 4.2 volts to the coil when trying to start. Hooked jumper wire from battery to coil. Started using carb clean. Found gas drained back. Replaced fuel pump. Starts great with jumper wire installed. Still knocks so not a fuel pump noise. Will replace ignition switch hoping voltage problem will be fixed.
Its in great shape! As long as its not a Bondo boat! Lol!!
"I'm all jacked up on Mortske Repair"!
The only difference between Love for The Duff and Mortske is that Mortske has opposing thumbs.
Duff (and Mortske) rule.
A new hierarchy of favorite dogs has occurred; Duff, Rin Tin Tin, Lassie, and Asta.
But it could not have happened without Mortske.
Love The Duff!
aROUND 25 YEARS AGO i WAS given a 1964 Scout 80. it had been parked in North Georgia about 100 miles North of Where I used to live. I got a tow bar and went up there and pulled it home. It came with a 4 cylinder 252 engine. I got it running and it had LOW power. It has 427 Dana differentials. It still had low power so I put a Chevy 350 in it. No more low power! It would go 80 mph at 4000 rpm. Now it needs 4 new tires and a new boat gas tank. It is a worthy 4WD vehicle.
I have never wanted a vehicle more in my life
“That’s Baron von Duff to you, Jack!!”
Cheers! 🖖😎👍
These where rare to see when I was a kid in the 80s. But now … jeez !!
Ya know, my dad used to put a piece of wood against the valve cover and his ear against the other end and listen for the knock. He would find it every time.
I'm just starting to watch. WoW
Love everything about the show but the truth is Duff is the king of RUclips
Getty was related to Getty Lee of Rush! Haha lol!
You keep giving us a reasons to watch you rescue old jalopies.
almost threw my phone out the window, damn i hate spiders... Good one Mortske!
whoops
I love the scout
300 million year old dinosaurs 🦖💯
I enjoy all your videos , Duff helps so much. When I worked for Ford back in the 1970's as a mechanic , I had a car in my stall that had an engine knock, even with a stethoscope it seeemed that the knock was in a cylinder, even my service manager and a couple other mechanics agreed, so I pulled the pan and found one rod bearing almost 1 thousands off, not really enough to
knock, I put in a new bearing and reassembled , started it up and it still knocked, what the heck, after more diagnosis, it turned out to be the fuel pump knocking and sending the knock down the block, possibly the fuel pump on the scout engine is your knock. thank you
Wow that thing is nice
Had the same rig for a few years. Sweat little buggy with the top off. Once needed a hose and called the local International Truck Center for part number etc. Thought the guy would be excited when I told him I had a 1967 Scout 800. He replied, "Why?".
haha
Mortske!! Mr puddin enjoys yer stuff so I stopped by to see!!
Awesome!
A lot of people seem to prefer the Bronco, but I’ve always liked the Scout better. I’d love to have one.
Years ago I had a 1 ton Chev that developed a knock and I couldn`t find it. I ended up pulling the engine and discovered the clutch disc had a loose spline. That may be the problem. Keep the videos coming .
I've seen that twice now
406 garage does only international vehicles. Might check it out.?
Nice job on the Scout, Puddin would be proud
I am with you on the aftermarket sunroofs. Having enjoyed the pleasure of dealing with these in the eighties I'll pass.
The transmission lever in the middle is to lock in the front wheels and the lever on the right is the high/low selector.
Your ol, obs shorty revival has 1.2 million views!!! Congrats.
Thanks!
