The plant you saw at the end is actually a Chaparral Yucca. Fun fact about those plants, once they bloom (grow that big stalk that you see on the plant) and flower, the plant then dies. When they bloom, they can grow 6 inches in a single day.
I've gotta admit it's nice to see you in So Cal, Matt! Aren't our mountains and views beautiful? It's great to hear you give our state nice compliments as we usually get a lot of hate from those who don't live here. And you made a side trip to the Mojave Desert, my hometown!
You know the sad part about all that negativity is it's probably coming from someone who lives in a state getting a bunch of subsidies largely paid for by Californians.
I grew up in the Mojave Desert and left there 25 years ago not because of the but because of the people. Cali is a great and beautiful state most of the people just suck.
Matt, this is my back yard! Those antenna towers in the background house my repeater and several other amateur (HAM) and commercial repeaters @5300' above sea level. that fire road is controlled by US forest service and only people with "business" on Sunset Ridge should be on it with motorized vehicles. We actually had a "repeater service" crew drive into that very same ditch, well after dark. We made a couple calls and "So-Cal Offroad and Recovery" from facebook got us out of that ditch with a 2020 Toyota 4Runner named Booger within a couple hours of our call! They are off-road enthusiasts that recover folks for free, they are highly capable, well versed and practiced in some of the incredibly rugged and dangerous places in So-Cal (that was nowhere near the worst of our areas). It was fun seeing you guys in this neigborhood but it was a long way to go for a simple "drag-out" recovery in what we see as a Hiking and garden spot above La Verne and Claremont I'm glad it wasn't a wasted trip since you got to help Caitlans Dad and play in Johnson valley without the ridiculous crowds!
Fun to watch this. I've gotta 4w to a repeater, I hate that road, the park service keeps sending up a tracked vehicle up there which cuts up the rock into sharp pieces. At 6000 you don't want a flat. Just running a stock dodge truck with a cummins . N6GRG
It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway. These are some of the absolute finest RUclips videos to be had. And having both recovery teams, the best in the business; in the same video, priceless!

Matt no need to be embarrassed you made the transition from the high ground to the low ground with stile and grace and I give you a 10 for sticking the landing 😂glad to see your well
The plant at 23:05 is called Chaparral Yucca, it is different from Blue Agave (typically used for tequila). You cannot ferment Yucca into alcohol without adding a base first which can be complicated. It’s fruits, roots, stem, and flowers are all edible but can be somewhat astringent or bitter so it’s recommended that everything but the flowers (if they’re clean) be boiled to get rid of the bitter taste. Hope this helps if you’re in the middle of nowhere in trouble. Also you should always do your own research, I’m just some guy in the RUclips comments. 👌
I loved seeing Yucca on the hillsides outside my house growing up in Southern California. I never new you can eat the roots until recently, though it might be e different variety then the ones I've eaten. I was very surprised when it came in a food box kit for making the yummiest French fries by frying the cut roots in olive oil. I always heard the native Indians ate it and my dad would say don't try to dig one up because it's hard work and it's "yuc." Now I see its roots in Asian California grocery stores which makes me think its a different variety since the Chaparral yucca only grows in California.
Those flowers you are smelling Matt those are called lupine and they come in and bloom when we have a lot's of rain in Southern California they're purple in color and they look beautiful and they smell beautiful .
I just smiled when I heard both you and Rory were heading out to work. Thanks for taking us along and glad Matt’s fall-land then roll wasn’t bone breaking. Good job guys 👍🏻
What a great collection of recoveries! One of the leading stars was the wrecker! Great to see Rory and how Matt & Rory worked together to make this happen on the Jeep. Way to go, team!
That's crazy that there's that big of mountain wilderness near LaVerne - it seems to me it's really a highly urban part of LA. I bought a Dodge Ram Van from a guy there 20 years ago & that's my impression. I guess I haven't a clue ! Maybe that's why homes are $1+ million, too much open land ?
Rory wheeling back door with such ease proves his legendary status. Also, that’s a Yucca plant and not agave. Equally spikey, no tasty drinks made from it lol

Gorgeous country, perfect weather, I wonder if the folks that moved to Austin miss their hometown? Rain this weekend in Austin, then high 90s rest of month with 70 percent humidity. Yuk.
I'm sure the people who left will tell themselves they made the better decision. I hope they are happier. It's a free country, you should try to live where you want.
'A very good feeling' ....'that I'll be back when the day is new, and I'll have more ideas for you' ...takes on a while new meaning. I'm anxious to see what he has in-store 😊
So, Matt......California is fairly massive. And extreme. I know you like your dessert life. The canyons down in SoCal are beautiful. Got desserts down there too. The Jeepers Jamboree takes place in the Sierra Nevada. We got moutains all the way up from LA to the Oregon Border, and from north of Sacramento (4 hours north of you) across the state to the Coast. It aint all palm trees and beaches here. Youd be surprised ❤
Got to like the way the editor cuts out the T-Shirt sizes request, so when Matt is handing out a shirt, we never get the chance to say: "no way is he / she / them a medium !!!"
i gotta say to anyone who talks any trash about matt and his business clearly works for someone.. the amount of time and effort from them to do these jobs and film it is a huge challenge and if you feel so entitled to comment how they could have done it better get your own trucks and rigs and do it. these guys are top notch

Those flowers you are smelling Matt those are called lupine and they come in and bloom when we have a lot's of rain in Southern California they're purple in color and they look beautiful and they smell beautiful .
Loved the way you rolled when you fell! Sure saves a lot of broken bones!
I just smiled when I heard both you and Rory were heading out to work. Thanks for taking us along and glad Matt’s fall-land then roll wasn’t bone breaking.
Good job guys 👍🏻
Rory..amazes me with his knowledge of winching
IMHO he is hands down the best off-road recovery person out there. Granted, I haven't seen them all, but still...
Wow, La Verne, near our old stomping grounds in Rancho Cucamonga (which you probably drove through)
I'm pretty darned happy with California. Glad you got a chance to check it out!
(and that was a yucca... Tequila and Mezcal are made from agave)
What a great collection of recoveries! One of the leading stars was the wrecker! Great to see Rory and how Matt & Rory worked together to make this happen on the Jeep. Way to go, team!
Still in CA? Stop at del taco in Barstow!!! Best ever!!!
That's crazy that there's that big of mountain wilderness near LaVerne - it seems to me it's really a highly urban part of LA.
I bought a Dodge Ram Van from a guy there 20 years ago & that's my impression.
I guess I haven't a clue !
Maybe that's why homes are $1+ million, too much open land ?
watched every video, cant get enough of this channel, keep it up Matt!.
Can you talk about how much a recovery costs? Especially an out of state one like this
Rory wheeling back door with such ease proves his legendary status. Also, that’s a Yucca plant and not agave. Equally spikey, no tasty drinks made from it lol
You will literally go to the ends of the earth to help out people, wow that is dedication to your fans and work, hope you did not hurt your self when you fell, matt
WE ALSO AGREE, 👍THUMBS UP IF U AGREE. MATT IS THE BEST. As an Old friends of Matt, I can say that after thorough review and confirmation by the U.S. Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force UFO division and NASA, IT IS OFFICIAL, The John Wayne part of this video was the COOLEST cameo Matt has ever done, PERIOD. John Wayne daughter Aissa Wayne also agrees. Photos of ALL the above can be found on our site.
Music bands, singers and comedians may dream of taking their act on the road, MORR literally takes their recovery team and equipment on the road. Thanks for sharing.
Im loving the temporary tin foil still keeping the exhaust cool. No need for expensive exhaust wraps.
Thanks buddy that saved my butt , I was looking for the loose wire , fixed it quick , thanks again
What happened to blue steel?
Very good question.
I like his attitude when recovering vehicles. Good job. Learn a few tips as well.
AwesOme ! Snakes are awesome ! Love the so cal videos ! My home state !🤘🤘
Living in Big Bear, Johnson Valley is in our backyard. Have fun! Onward!
I'd love to see Rory pilot a 4400 car in the main event at KOH!
welcome to my neck of the woods. im straight from barstow up in big bear. love johnosn vally and just got me my first truck. 02 chevy 6.0 2500. used to do speed runs from cafe 247 to barstow
I like the cinematic recovery with the rigging as opposed to the fastest option
Hard to believe that no one locally would do that.
You are correct we have a ton of people that would do that out here. We have a Facebook page with thousands of people willing to help for free
Maybe they were calling tow companies that take insurance. Lot of people aren't familiar with off road groups that would help for free.
I bet it had to do with the road. That road isnt open to the public
Plus, it wasn't an EV...😂
This was staged for content. Learning from Heavy D.
See Matt was playing stunt man at the end 😁😁👍🏻
Fall Guy! Just needs a GMC lol
Haha welcome to our neck of the woods Matt. But La Verne is hardly Los Angeles. Glad to see you and Rory helping out a fellow local.
'A very good feeling' ....'that I'll be back when the day is new, and I'll have more ideas for you' ...takes on a while new meaning. I'm anxious to see what he has in-store 😊
With all this deployment of forces I thought you would have to recover the crashed Airforce One. instead it was the simplest recovery in history
We would’ve. No one called. My shops and equipment are 30-45 min from there. Easy peezy
Awesome to see Rory and Matt working together! I really enjoy their respective channels! Yep. Rory does a lot of trail repair.
Wait a second if I buy a shirt off your website people are going to think I got stuck and you had to recover me 🤣
