My dad and a college classmate drove a 80 from Ft Wayne Indiana down to Lima Peru in 1963!! International promotional trip, had to stop by all the dealerships in Mexico, Central America and South America. Crazy adventure. Great job with your rebuild.
Interesting build. I'm not really a fan of some of the modernized items, like the rims, but it's all done very nicely. That speaker-amp thing is cool. I've never heard of such a thing -- gonna have to look into that.
Holy crap it doesn't have a small block Chevy. *mind blown* Sounds good too! That big block four banger has some good power I bet. That's a lot of cubic inches in there!
This motor was awesome! Looked good, kept it somewhat original and sounded like a tractor- the only thing I'd say was a must was the carb upgrade from the single barrel to the weber 2 barrel and the DUI electronic ignition. The difference was nite and day. It took my scout from a novelty to a daily driver. I've since sold it but people went crazy for that thing at car shows.
I have a 1972 Travelall with the 392 V8 totally stock at 191k original miles. It has a lifter tick that I will address. However, it's easily the best sounding V8 I have ever heard in terms of stock/non-modified.
Can you tell me the part number for that distributor that you installed? I've got the same rig but it's at the start of it's restoration journey. Cheers,
I don't have the part number but it's a Davis Unified Ignition distributor. U can get them direct off the website, eBay or summit also sells them for the four cylinder. One 12v power line and your good to go. Makes it run like a champ especially if u upgrade to the Webber 32/36 2 barrel carb
I have a 67 that needs new steering and suspension, is there a way to get in touch so I could ask how you did yours? It sits great and hoping to do the same with mine. Also, did you add power steering? I can't remember off the top of my head.
@@dbz4949 my uncle is gonna turbo charge it so hopefully it won’t struggle on highway driving. Do you have any suggestions for an ac system for this scout with the 196 cu engine?
73stayred 2barrel Weber 32/36. You’ll need an adaptor plate. I can’t remember exactly because it was awhile back but I think I called Weber customer service direct and they knew exactly what to send me. I can’t stress enough how flawless and reliable it ran paired with the DUI (Davis unified ignition) HEI single wire distributor. Neither one breaks the bank and the difference is ridiculous!
Will please give me everything carburetor and what everything you put on there so I can upgrade mine like yours I would like to have the information on all the disc brake stuff and everything where I can get them at could you please get those to me thank you my name is Phil I have a 69 international scout with a 152 and it like that grade like you did yours can you please help me on that get back to me
Hi Phil, The carburetor is a WEBER 36/32 two barrel. All it needs is an adapter plate which is avail. The electronic ignition is a Davis Unified Ignition (DUI) distributor. All it needs for install is a 12V lead. I can’t remember what brand the disc brake conversion was. It was generic ordered off the internet made for a scout 800 but it worked great. It did require a late model master cylinder upgrade made for disc brakes. I believe the one I used was from a corvette but any will do if you can fit it in there. Ryan
Thank you I'm restoring mine from your frame up and I seen you so I thought I'd do what you do to make the brakes better and make a run little better I appreciate the info thank you much you have a great day
You've ruined a perfectly fine Scout. Bastardized it with a Chevy steering wheel. A couch seat in the front, blocking the way to the rear seats, rhino-lined it, put a radio in with a crappy speaker right in the middle, that yellow knob is ugly, none of the knobs are original, hardly anything original is the problem. I wouldn't call the a rebuild, that implies you're restoring it to it's original glory. This is nothing like the original glory, this is just ... building a Frankenstein car with a 800 body.
You ever build something yourself buddy quaid? I’m thinkin not. I’m guessing that you sit on your couch most of the time on the internet trying to insult people on their projects and things that make them happy. You’ve chosen to focus on a yellow knob, an aftermarket steering wheel and some speakers in a classic ride that still runs the original drive train when most others don’t. The front seat is original by the way but since your an expert on Scouts I’ll let you believe whatever you want. Through one simple post you solidified yourself as king of all douchbags. Congrats to you. Keep on hiding behind your keyboard it’s clearly what you do best-

Thank you! And holy crap that’s amazing! Especially since I know what this thing ran like without the upgrades ….

wow this baby is just beautiful what a fantastic job
really nice setup, whoever bought it is very lucky!!
thelocustemperor thank you!!
Wow! Beautiful!
the lack of 1st gear synco is a killer when off roading these . you need it

VinnyMartello why would even think it would have a Chevy engine in it
VinnyMartello Its a waste to put a small block chevy in that in my opinion
Damn, I almost bought a 63, I wanted it so bad and when I went to buy it the lady didn't have the title
Can you tell me the part number for that distributor that you installed? I've got the same rig but it's at the start of it's restoration journey.

where can i get a speaker enclosure like that? i need one for my 63 and thats the best looking one ive seen..
+Cody West I made the speaker enclosure so they aren't out there. It was the best place I could think of to put it
Great thank you for the reply

+tommdavis11 Sorry for the late response- I just saw your comment. if you still have questions my email is ryandebaeke@hotmail.com
Wow. this gave me some great ideas for my 196! Did you have to do any fabrication to get the DUI distributor to fit?
Dropped right in- all you gotta do is add 12v power and hook up plug wires ! Difference is night and day. Well worth the money
also how fast could it go down the highway and how many mpg did you get thanks again haha
What length and type of tubing did you use for the bumpers? I would really like to make some for both of my scouts
Just your average mild steel. Not sure on the length I sold it about two years ago but I basically cut them just short of the width of the truck.
I have a scout that I’m restoring with a 196ci engine. I’m Wondering if I should swap it or not. How did it perform on the highway?
Top speed with the stock set up was about 70 mph. I personally loved the 196 and the way it sounded like a tractor!
@@dbz4949 my uncle is gonna turbo charge it so hopefully it won’t struggle on highway driving. Do you have any suggestions for an ac system for this scout with the 196 cu engine?
Great set up - What power steering components did you use?
No power steering. I left it alone and believe it or not it still steered just fine with oversized wheels/tires. Didn't go wheelin though-
i know this has been sold a few years ago but can i ask if the transmission was modified at all?
73stayred I left it alone- just overhauled it with seals n stuff. Worked great!
Thanks so much for the reply. Second question what's the correct Webber carburetor to get?
73stayred 2barrel Weber 32/36. You’ll need an adaptor plate. I can’t remember exactly because it was awhile back but I think I called Weber customer service direct and they knew exactly what to send me. dbz4949 I'm converting a '61 scout and I am battling trying to stay as stock as possible. It was a great find coming across your video.
Can I also ask about the gas caps? Manufacturers
Did you put a fuel regulator with this setup? what type of fuel pump did you use?
everything is stock except the carb and distributor
I love it!! Wish I could give you 5 "likes" :)
Did you put line x in the interior?
Rhino liner
was it hard to steer with no power steering im doing a similar build
+Jacob Pacheco Only when stopped. Once you start moving its super easy. No need for power
dbz4949 idk why people need it, you shouldnt steer when stopped, it hard on the steering parts
Hoe much did it sell for?
$19k.... but I had a $22k offer after it sold...😕
I got a 1968 ih scout 800 I wouldn't sell to anyone.
What series flowmaster were you running?
Not sure. Sold it a few years ago. Sounded awesome though like a tractor. Totally unique
What tire size do you have?
Can’t remember…. But I say it in the video as I’m shootin the wheels and tires
no top? black seats will be too hot
It’s a truck / half top

Pretty boring restoration
Ha! Thanks! They can’t all be rock crawlers I guess-

Shame that so few are left original.
