I think they had help, even from a guard or two. And a boat awaited in the bay and took them south.

The brothers made it to Brazil. They were both still alive as of a couple years ago.
Imagine the bond and loyalty they had between each other, i can only imagine. Real ones!

According to the History magazine special edition in late 2017 which is a very detailed magazine on the history of the prison as well as many photographs of it; the warden of the prison several days after the breakout received a postcard in the mail which said" Ha Ha Ha , we made it!! " signed John, Clarence and Frank.
I always hoped they made it and they did I know 100%
sounds like at least the 2 brothers lived, relatives have pictures that are known to be them , they had the pictures analyzed and they were told it was near 100% them. From what I saw they attached themselves to a guard boat that pulled them out about 1/2 way where they let go and then there was someone out in another boat that helped them escape, known to be there friend. The documentary I saw on it was amazing. I always believed they made it, and when I watched that documentary and saw that picture, I knew they had for sure. now the 3rd guy,, I am not so sure
SuperZandersmom they where saying the third died or sacrificed himself. But his story really remains a mystery

Big news a documentary recently has produced some very interesting news a photo emerged from Brazil of two old brothers experts compared it to the 2 brothers of the 3 who escaped and a very very close match was found experts are now very very confident that it was them and they really did survive

This year from south alcatraz scrz - How much heroin did they use in prison. What prison guard -------------------------- . Got heroin. escaped but drowned 25 miles offshore - were seen by german cargo ship. One was found months later on shore. Used a cart to transport raincoats which kept guards from finding heroin stash.
I went to Iraq in the summer and I met frank and John I don’t know if it’s actually them but they are in the 80s or 70s

sounds like they lived, there is a picture with them in it from the 1970's , that is almost 100% certain its them, I think the show was called Alcatraz " searching for the Truth"..

they drowned obviously
sounds like they lived, according to a "friend" who they contacted after, they hooked a cord on the back of a guard boat and when the boat left, it pulled them out 1/2 way or so, pitch black and no one saw them, sounds like they had an accomplice who had a boat out in the bay that pulled them on board and helped them escape. that same person had a picture of the two that he sent to relatives in the 1970's in Brazil . Just this past year they got in analyzed to see if it is truly them and it is almost 100% certain its them. There was a doc on TV about it. and its all over the internet now.
