True that but since she after her own report and others always has been, it didn't get THAT much heavier after Hollie arrived in 3D Life as I was afraid it would be. Just a bit more STERN maybe when she tries to tell her audience to behave, but I guess for some people who didn't had a parental unit that cared that is necessary "these days" (which is a phrase I don't like but sometimes it seems right to be used) ....
It's just a lighthearted joke as it's something moms are often heard saying and Kendall is a mom now... Nobody is saying Kendall is stern or talking about their own mommy or daddy issues except you 😭

No, you don't have to be around people who make you feel uncomfortable even if they're family. Asking invasive questions/having no boundaries around privacy, yelling to communicate + everyone getting drunk sounds awful to me too lol. It sort of seems like he is not confident at asserting his boundaries, and his wife is not receptive to them anyway. Lying isn't healthy but in this case it was to avoid being around people who basically make him feel emotionally unsafe. Getting angry, yelling and ganging up on your partner when they express something makes them uncomfortable isn't healthy either

As a person in recovery for over 13 years, no one has the right to tell your past. Not a single soul I meet today would ever in a million years know I ever did any of that. I was young, it was short lived in the grand scheme of things and I live a completely normal life and have for many years. I don’t think anyone NEEDS to know that. I’m so far removed from who I used to be. He could have been sober for many years. Take your worst mistakes and have them held against you for the rest of your life and tell me if that’s fair. That woman is a complete… fill in the blank. So infuriating 😡 thank you all for advocating for people and their right to be treated as anyone else is. Not feeling good enough is something I struggle with and I know that isn’t true. But addiction is incredibly shameful and sticks with you for a long time.
One of my mom's favorite phrases is, "it's an invitation; not an obligation." My partner and I have been together for 9 years, and he gets along really well with my family, but there are still times when he's too tired, his social batteries are drained, or he just doesn't want to go to a family event. Everyone is always incredibly understanding, even if they're a little disappointed and wanted to see him.
It's totally messed up that guy decided to lie, but I understand why he felt he had to if his partner didn't respect his boundaries. I wish we knew more of the backstory, like if he had previously bad-mouthed his partner's family to her face, which then prompted a more extreme reaction from her.

I agree with Karelly on the first "Am I the Asshole" ❤ I've been with my partner for 4 years now and we always listen to eachother if we don't feel like going to one anothers family gatherings. I personally don't like the idea of being forced into anything if you just simply don't want to do it!
I agree too!! I think that it is a problem if he refuses to go to every family gathering, that'd be a bit too much and kind of not trying at all, but i think that it is totally fine to skip some if you don't feel like going. i'd rather leave him at home than bringing someone who clearly doesn't want to be there and is kind of a "dead weight" throughout the event.
I don’t think the first person is an asshole. They shouldn’t have lied, but you have to set boundaries for yourself. You don’t owe your energy to anyone.

When people say “it’s your family” ….. that’s a big red flag! Family can be toxic. You do not have to “deal.” I’m really disappointed by those statements. My ex husband’s family was mostly fine but they really made me uncomfortable and I didn’t marry his family, I married HIM. He stood up for me so many times and when you get married and you love your spouse, your family takes a back seat.

I totally understand where you're coming from. I see my fam only on holidays and thats enoygh for me. However if your partner's family is that bad to you but not to your partner maybe you're the problem? I know other people aviod their family entirely and thier partner respects that. In this case her family to her seems like any other family that she loves going on vacation with. He looks like the bad guy to me. It's a sticky situation for sure.
The poor man with the history of drugs use and previous sex work, he probably worked so damn hard to love himself, to find a loving partner with no judgements.
This kind of reaction could make him go down a slippery slope, he could end up using again or worse.
I really hope that he was able to find a kind loving partner whose family is not so judgemental.
My aunt is more than 10 years sober. (Probably close to 13 years now) she worked hard to stay clean and went through shit at the beginning which caused her to relapse. She get her stuff together and reunited with her 6 kids once she was able to get clean and stay on the right path.

Supposedly, the ex FBIL is only 23, it seems like he was only doing those things to survive and make life worth while (even though it the drugs cause damage). He never mentioned his family at all, so probably some strain there. Doesn't sound like he had many people to tell this to and the fact he trusted her with this very private information makes her actions absolutely evil and diabolical. I don't blame the sister going no contact. OP literally ruined two peoples lives just by opening her mouth.
Many comments were tearing her up, she ended up deleting the post. I hope she got the message.
Situations like this are why I don't speak about my past.
i'm an ex addict and i had to step away from my desk when i heard that story.. so traumatic - she is DEFINITELY the asshole
I think the wife was a little bit of an A-hole for telling the in-laws and "getting them on her side" about the husband not going on the family trip. As an introvert, I get that kind of "please GOD don't make me go" sort of response to big family functions.
People who judge addicts are so harmful. That sisters reaction is the exact reason people are terrified to talk about substance abuse and it keeps them from seeking treatment. It’s so sad
Yeah that story was so sad I felt so bad for the guy that was crying and told her his past, and then she did such horrible things after 😢
She destroyed his already vulnerable sense of trust and risked a relapse for him. She is a monster. If you cannot handle that information tell a therapists with a confidentiality agreement.
As a 38 yr old female with a 23 yr long heroin addiction (yes with needles) I am SO grateful to hear all of ur reactions to the addict story. That poor man, I would be so devastated!! I have been in and out of sobriety (it's a life-long struggle) and I have to say the absolute worst and hardest part of addiction is the judgement. I can't emphasize enough the fact that just because I'm an addict does not mean I would EVER allow this to bring harm to my family or to put children in any type of danger or anything negative like that. All I've ever wanted is to be seen as more than my addiction, as something more than the drug and the way I choose to use it. It is totally possible to be a drug addict but not a scumbag. I may have an addiction but I am a good, thoughtful, caring, respectful, admirable human being completely capable of exhibiting restraint enough to not let my addiction interfere with my family. God, one ofthe absolute worst things in this country about being an addict is the total false perception and misplaced judgment as to what an addict looks like and who an addict is. It is very telling when u hear someone with this type of opinion as to how big of a fukn asshole they are!!! YES YOU'RE THE ASSHOLE!!!! And thank u ladies for saying so! ❤❤
I so so hope that you'll be kicking it for good one day. ❤❤❤ What enrages me most about the judgment that we live in a culture that seriously lacks empathy and teaches us to pretend and lie for appearances. And when people can't handle this and the abuse they have been through they are judged so badly. It's insane, addictions are created from communities full of lies and lack of empathy.

This! I have three best friends who are either recovering addicts, current addicts, and one has passed on sadly, but literally they are all my best friends because they are the best humans I’ve ever met in my life, they just can’t fight the addiction!

AITA-- I think the guy with the work trip is NTA. He has tried over the years to beg out of a couple of the gatherings and is always forced to go to them. The wife is TA for not being willing to occasionally compromise for the sake of the husband's happiness and sanity. Plus the fact that she immediately rang her parents up to tell them what happened and brought a whole shitstorm down on him?? That sounds like a perfect example of what the husband meant when he said that the family is WAY too much in each other's business. I'd be pretty pissed if my wife has no respect for the privacy and sanctity of a marriage. You're supposed to be each other's ally and partner above all else and she just fed him to the family sharks. They need to just not be married anymore imo.
one time my ex bf’s friends came to visit our apartment, we had just recently moved in together. this random man who i had never met (one of ex’a friends) yelled off my balcony at a woman who was walking to her car- this man was catcalling a woman who was at her home walking to her car in broad daylight. i lost my ever loving mind on this man. i asked him who raised him to think it was in any way appropriate to come
into MY home and make a woman feel uncomfortable/ unsafe at HER home? i told him that is NOT how we act in my home or anywhere for that matter and he could apologize to her or gtfo of my home and never come back. he was shocked, but he did apologize to her.
I think he SHOULD get pretty severe jail time. Not just for what he did, but because he clearly has ZERO respect for the system on top of it. If he gets away with it (which, even if he gets a year in jail, he may well still view it as worth it), who knows what the hell he'll do next because he has NO respect for the justice system.

Bella is the founder and owner of an MLM which means, to me, she’s no stranger to manipulating people and her and her husband both admitted on the unplanned podcast that they faked their content for views, so personally I definitely think most of their scam was fabricated on their part, but it is a good thing they brought attention to such a sad situation that happens to many families trying to adopt. But I really admire you guys for giving them the benefit of the doubt, I’m so jaded😂

That second AITA story was definitely a true asshole. My mom was like this growing up, she would force me to “be girly” and dress “girly” to the point where it would even turn physically abusive. It was traumatizing and I do think now I lack confidence because of this. It feels humiliating to try to embrace myself to this day! Parents don’t even realize how they rob that out of us before we even have a chance to find our own self confidence.

So on the AITA one with the girl telling that guys secret about being an addict in the past is so messed up! She even says how relapse is possible in addicts but yet she goes and does this to him ruining his whole relationship and probably making him feel so terrible about himself that she just caused a potential relapse by her actions. As a recovering addict myself, It hurts to hear how someone can be so judgemental about something they don't understand! I hope that guy was able to stay strong and not let her actions cloud his judgement and sobriety progress. Soo messed up to do that!! And how is being in recovery a danger to kids? 🙄😤

Im a recovering addict -- 5+ years, I'm sure the fiance knew, but gosh.... its bad enough to live with that guilt let alone feel forever judged around her family. Im super open about my past & will talk to anyone about it, but I wanna be the one to tell people!
Well Happy 5+ years ! =) I also find it kinda hyporcirtically (also I can't exclude myself bc sometimes the way drug addicts walk talk and behave is at least intimidating to me if not scary...even though I'm kinda sorry for them) that we judge "Hard (ill-)legal" drug addicts so much when hardly anyone of us can let go of their Wifi connected screens but that's hardly seen as "addicted" because (as good as ) everyone is.

I disagree on the family AITA. Messed up he lied? Yes. But at the end of the day - I’m not going anywhere I feel uncomfortable. If my boundary is I don’t want to answer uncomfortable questions and they continue to ask and they straight up “yell to communicate”? That’s not worth being around. Family or not, I don’t care and no one should put themselves somewhere that makes them feel uncomfortable and around people who can’t respect boundaries.

I have a family friend who almost lost her life as a passenger in a little plane like that when it crashed. And another family friend who was killed in a crash due to a seat malfunction. Give him 10 to 15 for his negligence. Disgusting.

I would have fibbed my way out of the family vaca too… HOWEVER, my husband supports me when I’m honest about something being too much for me to handle. “Sucking it up” because you love your partner is not right. The partner should respect boundaries. With good communication and respect, maybe he could have visited one day after the work trip and then had a day or two at home by himself if that’s what he needed.

5th AITA: omg she's such an asshole! How dare she! No one gave her to right to tell his past story..the nerve of her🙄 and the fact that she thinks she did the right thing, and the fact that she's confused about why her sister is mad at her😒 she definitely just wanted to gossip for sure
I grew up in a religion that literally preaches you will burn in hell for eternity for wearing pants. That Mom is teaching her daughter that her comfort, her decisions for herself and her body, don't matter.

@@crystalcervantes4708 SAME! Apostolic/Pentecostal and my Grandfather built the church with his own hands and has been the Pastor since my Mom was a kid. Religious trauma has shaped so much of me, not in good ways. Being told over and over again that everything you do will send you to hell is not something you can just brush off.
I couldn't imagine being that deep in it! My parents we're hypocrites so it was even more confusing and damaging! We went to church( on and off since we moved a lot) in our skirts and long sleeves. My mom was polite, cried, prayed, spoke in tounges. We stopped getting our hair cut etc. But then we went home my parents were abusive, we wore pants and tank tops, we watched TV, did all the "worldly" things. It's was so infuriating and even being so young I knew something was off with all of it. I have lost any faith because of it all.
@@crystalcervantes4708 my Mom's entire family is in the church and they have thought I was a "sinful child" my entire life. I was in my 20s before I knew my Grandparents loved me. What saved me (some) was that my Dad didn't believe in the Pentecostal preachings. He was raised by 2 amazing, loving, accepting people that taught him that everyone has hardships, and we're here to love people and help them when we can. His parents died when I was young. It was really hard on me, as my Mom's parents didn't hide the fact that they thought I was evil. I was an undiagnosed autistic. So to them that meant I didn't behave, didn't listen, and asked too many questions. I've been deconstructing from the cult-like environment of that church, for many years.
I'm so sorry you had to deal with abuse at home, on top of what mental abuse the religion was already doing to you. Sending you love and strength, in the hopes we can both overcome the religious trauma inflicted on us.

The dress thing reminds me of my mom. I started seeing clothes under my dress and changing in the bathroom. It was a battle. Still to this day almost 30 I won't wear a dress. Even my daughter hates them 🤣 we've learned how to dress up pants around here lol

So, in relation to the AITA story about forcing her daughter to wear a dress... I find that one so funny because my mom was the same way. I grew up as a pastors kid so we "had to look our best," and the first Sunday at a new church my dad was Pastoring at, I was forced to wear a dress against my will (I was 5/6). So what did I do? I took it off at church. My mom learned her lesson and rarely ever forced me to wear anything again 😂
Edit to add: she's definitely the asshole. Like chill. Church is about coming as you are😅
yeah but like.... take church out of it. if you were going to a wedding and the attire was formal would you take your dress off there too? or if youre going to a job interview and the dress code was business casual would you show up in booty shorts and a t-shirt? just cause you didn't want to dress up? cause you like shorts and a t-shirt?

@Adrienne Paige I mean at 5 or 6 probably 😂 my parents just decided to start getting me nice dress pants and blouses because I despised dresses. You can still look nice without a dress 😊.

I like how Dr. Phil told his wife Robin, early in their relationship, that he did not want to spend time with her family because he could not tolerate being around them. He was upfront and honest about it and they were able to make that agreement.🤷🏼♀️
I think this guy was trying to avoid a confrontation with his wife and got caught. His wife sounds unreasonable and that's probably why he lied in the first place.
