- Larry Dixon did a great job on afternoon drive on KVIL back in the 90's. Note the Sony CD changers that KVIL played all of their music on back then. Full video available on California Aircheck Video #54 californiaaircheck.com
I’m 30 now, so I was a 90s kids. I miss this station so much and this voice brought back memories. I remember driving around with my dad just jamming to 80s music. Music he grew up with. Thanks for uploading this
I enjoyed this so much. This was my childhood.
OMG!!! I miss his voice!! He has the GREATEST radio voice!!! Miss him here in Dallas/Fort Worth!!!!
From the era when KVIL was the champion of DFW radio, starting with Chapman in the morning. How the mighty have fallen.
After Chapman moved from KVIL to KLUV, so did much of the listenership.
KVIL eventually changed to several other names and is currently "ALT 103.7", an alternative music station ... and a mere blip on the radar.
Once the older highly-skilled broadcasters retired, there was nothing to replace them and the pay sucks.
Ron Chapman, Larry Dixon, Terry King, Barnett ... all were DFW greats. We still have (Jim) Zippo on KLUV over-nights, but that's now all voice-tracked.
Larry Dixon - so smooth! Great jock!
Larry was consistently great 100% of the time and a great guy and wonderful tennis player!!! Just don't get near any wrestlers, Larry!!
Worked with Larry as his Newsman when he went down the hall to do morning on Smooth Jazz 107 The Oasis. A very nice man and fun to be around. (of course I would never say that to his face lol)
Can you tell me where he went or is living ?
SM-5 Great mic. Wish Shure still made this one.
When I was at KVIL I "borrowed" this SM-5B from Whalen's Pro Audio Sales in Ft. Worth as a demo to replace some 'trade-out' Sony ECM Electret mics that required 2 AA batteries that always went soft.
Whalen never got the SM-5B back because we loved it so much. I just told Whalen to send us a bill. The rest is history!
Just a guy, working. Nice.
... ... ...best radio station in the United States of America!!! ; if only like Pink Floyd or Alec R. Constandinos ; the radio station would of realised all its GLORY ; 1970~1993 i allways new KVIL 103.7 was Radio at its Best!!!!!!!(7 ; the MUSIC!!! 🎶; the DJ'S!!! ; the STYLE!!
Lake Highlands/White Rock Forever!
llove Brother brent! 💘
I think After Midnight with Blaire Garner used those same Sony CD jukeboxes at some point.
Zero imaging? No jingles in 93. Interesting!
They still make those microphones they cost about $1,200
No, Shure hasn't made those SM-5Bs in decades. Its current equivalent is the SM-7 which is better than ANY EV RE-20.
Anyone know the first song he plays?
Another Day in Paradise by Phil Collins
thanks
1:08 What song is that?
@seanratnasinghe "Self Control" by Laura Branigan.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
+Jay Sawyer I wonder why??? LOL. What a great jock he was. SO TALENTED, so Interesting
Um, yeah.. NOT super impressed with him. He worked here in Atlanta at WALR back in the 90s.. Boring morning man then, and this vid check is kinda boring as well.
I recall him moving to Atlanta to be a morning star, away from Chapman's shadow. It didn't work.
Larry failed horribly. WALR 104.7 FM Atlanta, Ga. @@richardburkard9839
