  • This is a 1983 Mobile Sturgeon appearance at Union Square in San Francisco during the NAB convention. Includes Dave Sholin, Shotgun Tom Kelly and Sue Hall. WNBC's Program Director Kevin Metheny makes a guest appearance outside the Sturgeon. Lots of great shots of the exterior and interior of the Sturgeon!

It's amazing how technology has evolved when it comes to live remote broadcasting via the Internet and Wi-Fi and portable transmitters it's just crazy looking at a live console there with cart machines

Shotgun Tom Kelly has always been a favorite. What a great, natural and fun communicator. His San Diego listeners were fortunate.

This brings back memories for me. I can remember living in Alameda California and my mother, sister and I would listen to KFRC. Well, really me not them. Every morning, and afternoon when I go to school, or coming home from school, one of my bus drivers would have KFRC on. In those days in the 80s when they had the old buses, we didn’t have FM radio. They only had the AM. Every Saturday and Sunday on weekends, they would play the actual oldies. Oldies like the Beatles, the monkees, or a lot of Motown besides the 80s songs that we hear. Oh! They would even have a Michael Jackson marathon on the weekends Friday through Sunday. They would play stuff from his solo work, the Jackson 5, or even the Jackson’s. And, I can remember sometimes they would have live shows broadcasted. There was only one in particular that I remember and that was the lake great Laura Branigan‘s concert. Boy! What good times growing up in Alameda. If I could only have those days back.

@@airjor1 God I miss KSOL and KDIA back in the day. Actually in our household, my mother always listened to either KSOL or KBLX. My grandmother and great grandmother would listen to KDIA. It’s too bad all of those stations is defunct which totally sucks. I really, really wish someone posted all the commercials in the 80s from KSOL though. But that’s awesome that you was in Alameda to.

KFRC's air personalities were fun and talented; I've been in Vancouver for decades and they mostly suck. It's hard to sound cool when you speak with a big smelly Canadian accent.

Vancouver had some great talents back in the 70's and 80's in the golden age of radio on 14CFUN, LG73 and CFMI. I remember listening to Russ McLeod and many others.
