Wow what a set of pipes. That’s how radio used to be done.
Yes certainly was here in australia our radio is boring a lot of no talent unfunny x wannabe comedians absolute crap all our great announcers have retired I really miss the style like Jack Armstrong that rapid fire machine-gun announcing it takes a lot of practice to be able to speak fast but be articulate and clear love it
There's an art to this, nailing the timing just right, the voice all of it.
Absolutely 💯 rare people!
You actually kind of get into a rhythm. It’s not as easy as it looks.
The big 610 was still a well oiled machine in 1983. One of the last of the legendary AM Top40s!!
Jackson Armstrong! I remember him from WKBW Radio 1520 in Buffalo.
The best muuuuuuusic in stereo! ❤🚴🏽♀️
Back when radio was exciting to listen to.
I dunno if he reeled in his patter at this stage of his career, but a few years earlier, Jackson Armstrong was considered the fastest-talking jock in radio. There's a great example on RUclips, "WKBW War of the Worlds 1972."
Walks to the post like its a walk in the park, what a talent. He was in Charlotte NC at 610, as John Larsh in the mid 60s.
I used to listen to Jackson on Ten-Q in Los Angeles. Most listeners aren't aware of the elements that make a station sound exciting and energized but when they all come together they hear good positive FUN. Jackson Armstrong is shown practicing an art with absolute precision. I loved hearing him on the air and thinking, "Wish I had a fraction of his talent!" He made this radio personality (me) love the medium even more. I miss him, gone way too soon.
One of the best .. Jackson rocked … Got to say KFRC in my radio career … very thankful
So did you Rex!
Look how he stands and puts his whole body into it. That's how they do!
Love it pure analog..... no computers or anything digital... and it sounds better
dang...never knew of him.. watched this whole thing. THAT IS TALENT.
hitting the post like a pro!
These jocks are as much of a performer as the musicians they are promoting.
In 1981, Jack Armstrong hosted Popclips on Nickelodeon, which was the testing ground for when MTV first came to be on August 1st, 1981.
Absolutely FANTASTIC! What a lost art this is now.
it's lost because the consultants tell everyone on air these days to be themselves and that people want to hear real humans....not real personalities.
I love these videos! Great stuff. Thanks!
theres one song from that time period i wish i knew the name of by the fixx with a 2 note sybthesizer intro
I was a DJ the same year in Corpus Christi C-101, if you only knew what happens in the studio in the middle of the night
whats that song?
Any of you know the song playing @: 48 seconds?
The song is "Alligator Woman" by Cameo.
Thank you so much @brentmann2988!
@@coreyknight5101 You're welcome. That song has a really cool intro.
One of the best. Thanks George!
0:48 "Alligator Woman" by Cameo. This group was best known for their song "Word Up!"
he's got a mustache for the big screen
Interesting Playlist...
KFRC was run by PD Gerry Cagle at this time. His vision of a hit playlist was unlike any other major market Top40. He integrated a lot of R&B and Funk records into the playlist. You would hear a Zapp record followed by a Air Supply record. Lol.
