Just got my first bow about 3 weeks ago and I've been looking to improve my aim and shooting. I'm so glad I happened across this channel. I now realize that I was probably punching my release because the trigger was almost completely out of reach
Best informative video I have ever seen, WELL DONE ! I have been archery hunting almost 35 years and guided elk hunts for 25+ years, I learned more in this video than you might think. I have great days of shooting and bad days when I punch the trigger. I just tid wrapping my trigger finger all the way around the trigger and man, what a difference ! Just subscribed, keep them coming Josh.
Thank you so much! Comments like this and helping people that have been in the archery and bowhunting game as long as you have means a lot to me! There will be more videos to come!
This is the most complete video instruction I have seen on this concept. Plenty of videos on hinge or thumb, but you give a complete step by step of this process. THANK YOU!
This is easily one of the best tutorials i’ve ever seen in my life. First six shots after using these tips were all dead center, right where i wanted them to be. Props to you for a great tutorial
James, I'm glad that you were able to see this video. I've been shooting a bow of some kind since 1963 and have tried about everything. This young fella KNOWS HIS ARCHERY!!! This technique of pulling thru the shot is really the very best way with any type release. All of his videos are excellent in knowledge and presentation. I enjoy watching him just to remind me not to get lazy and refresh my mind. Good Luck with working on your new technique.
I’ve always had such a terrible time broadhead tuning, this year especially so. Just got back from shooting this morning. I realized that all my life I had been holding onto the stem of the release. Letting go of this fixed my broadhead right deviation (right handed shooter). Thank you for the information, I feel so much more confident. Went from having broadhead issues at 20 yards to hitting a 3 inch group out to 50. Thank you!!
I watched the video last night…. Shot tonight.adjusted wrist release and thumb under jaw and blurred the dot and focused on the target…super tight group. Awesome video and channel. Honestly great content. Thanks
As a beginner my aim has improved a lot after taking these aim tips. Got a lot of bulls eyes today by proper placing it all. The new trigger release probably helped a lot too with less movement at release time. I just did not know how to position it all. I'm loving it now. Sweet.
Thank you ! You are the best! You got me shooting plastic bottle caps at 10 yards With very few misses. Was getting a 4 or 5” group before. I am new to archery , never shot a bow before only toy ones . I purchase a PSE STINGER ATK SS set it up myself with no help from bow shop only RUclips vids. Found you and THANK YOU👍👍👍👍
Been struggling with my new bow with a 6” brace height . Always shot 7+ BH . This video and the focus on the target not the pin video changed everything for me with my new bow . AWESOME VIDEOS and thanks for taking the time to educate us .
Goog god! Thank you for this! It’s extremely difficult to find an English speaking coach here in Japan! I’m totally soaking this up like a sponge, it’s EXACTLY what I was looking for!
Fantastic! After shooting only with a very old Bear compound (eccentric wheels!) with a finger tab for many years I now am using a string release on a new modern compound, this is just the info I need!
I’ve been watching a lot of videos lately and I understood the concept but this video honestly put all the fine details together for me and made me understand how to actually execute a proper shot. Awesome video man, great breakdown 🤙
i just got my new bow yesturday and am struggling to pick what trigger to get, arm guard, arrow holder etc. I really love you challenge videos and am looking trught your videos trying to see if there is any video where you guys talk about the gear you all use. the distance counters etc. Thank you for all of these videos. ill keep looking trugh them :)
Great video and the best explanation I have found so far out of the like 10 videos iv watched. I'm glad I scrolled down now, your video should be top of the list lol.
Thank you so much. I'm returning to Bow Hunting and Target...I was thrilled when my daughter asked to bow hunt this year. we will be in a ground blind.....Just the mention of wearing glasses, I was thrilled. Even with Firearms, iron sites, or scope it has been a huge change...as well as taking so long to get my vision corrected. I have clicked the subscribed
Just shot my first bow today. The hardest part for me was anchoring so I could see the peep without struggling to line it up if that makes sense. I see much practice in my future lol. Great video Thanks
Sometimes i just gotta come back to the basics. I get complacent sometimes and forget about being disciplined with my form. Good info brotha its got me rite again.
I like the camera technique, im going to use that. No one around to teach me, so im using RUclips for reference until I can head over to the nearest archery shop. Great video, it was very helpful, thanks ✌
Beginner here - applying these techniques helped so much. One question, what do you think of bow wrist slings? I’m finding different opinions (useful vs useless)
I love to hear that and glad you have found it helpful! Wrist slings are used to help shoot with an entirely relaxed hand and grip to prevent the bow from falling out of your hand onto the ground. As long as they are adjusted so they are loose on your wrist, there is no disadvantage to them, yet gives you the confidence to shoot with a relaxed grip/hand without fear of dropping your bow or reacting to grab your bow. Hope this helps!
My anchor is slightly different, but as you said this isn't the only way. I've been shooting for over 20 years with the exception of about two years do to injury. Your videos are great. Continue teaching and helping grow the archery community
@@BowOnlyOutdoors I use the first knuckle on my thumb into the indention where the base of my ear touches my jaw therefore it's trapped in a triangle. Easily repeatable.
Cheers. Just starting the try release, believing my drawers too long right now. I'm missing fingers, index finger in the corner of the mouth anchor. So your videos helpful, we'll head to the shop and change out mods an experiment a little better with anchor. Just feels funny and weird right now.
Wished I had watched this earlier. New bow hunter who just missed high at 20 yards TODAY on my first deer. I shoot on level ground typically and wasn't ready for how elevation would affect my shot. Back to practicing my fundamentals.
Great video! I see you use a small kisser to touch your nose. Is that tied in or put on with a noc set. Would a noc set alone work? I use a carter Like Mike release which requires you to pull through the shot. Thanks for the help!
From now onward i am watching only your videos about how to do archery. Was doing it wrong for some time. I like also your video about how to aim. Am doing soooo much better now. Josh what sight you have? THX
New to archery; not really seeing the difference between the trigger lower to closer to the front? What am I looking for? Appreciate the video, will do this regardless whether I see it or even feel it, but I would like to know what to look for.
I have my release at my finger tip and squeeze as i would shooting a rifle, coming up with rufle marksmanship i was always tought to use the tip of your finger and squeeze slowly until the shot happens, i do the same with my wrist release, ill try it the way you explained to see if i notice a difference though, interesting to see the thought process between rifle trigger control and bow trigger control
@BowOnlyOutdoors gotta go pit on the new whisker biscuit, and move the peep up a little bit so I'll give it a shot once I get that done to see how I like it 👌🏻
I'm thinking this young fella knows his stuff. Awesome form and technique. This is the only way to use an index finger release to NOT DEVELOP TARGET PANIC.
Hi Josh, Can you please explain in more detail the correct procedure for activating the trigger. i.e. should one use the arm and not the the finger or envision pulling the elbow straight back with the back muscles. Oh and by the way great videos.
Hey Mike, this is perhaps different for every person, but I will give you my preference. I prefer to wrap and lock my finger on the trigger so it is rigid as I pull slow, smooth, and consistently backwards to basically allow the trigger to come into my finger. What is most important however is what you are consciously thinking about when executing. You MUST put your conscious thought into the MOVEMENT that causes your release to fire. In this case, that movement can be felt by continually adding pressure to the trigger until it fires. As long as you are building pressure on that trigger, it will fire. You must be able to feel the pressure building consistently until it fires. Just focus on keeping the pressure building steadily more and more until it fires. I achieve this best by activating the release as mentioned above and in the video. - JP
@@BowOnlyOutdoors Thanks JP, Your explanation really helps. I'm not new to archery, on the contrary I was shooting at age four. I'm new to compound bows and trying to figure out how you're supposed to even grip the release. I've got the Patriot Trufire release and it feels like it's just gonna slip out of my hands and off my wrist trying to pull back the 70lb draw with it.
I'm struggling to figure out my anchor point. Part of my draw length seems good like the string touches my nose, but it seems like my release hand is back to far. I'm anchoring by my ear. I'll have to try the jawline as a anchor like you show. That looks comfortable and consistent. I just got a Hoyt Torrex Xt which is a short bow, I may want to try a nose button if I can't have the string touch my nose with the proper draw length. Thank you for such a helpful video.
You’re welcome! Double check the draw length on the bow and make sure the release is at the right length and it should feel much more comfortable and consistent.
Hopefully this will finally help me figure out my draw length where it should be set. Then my anchor point should be easy to get right after that. I read an article after watching this video about measuring your wingspan then divide by 2.5. If this works out I should have a draw length of 28" instead of 29" that I have now. Thank you again !!
Good question! Keep your fingers behind the trigger when you draw and do not place your finger on the trigger until you’re ready to start your shot process.
Yes! I’ve only had it on for about a week and initially I didn’t like it. After shooting with it for a while I have personally found the larger one to be especially helpful on my Vertix because of the more severe string angle caused by the shorter axle to axle. It helps me keep my alignment centered easier than without it.
Recently new to compound bow shooting and it feels like I popped something in my upper arm that holds the bow. It wasn't the string coming and hitting my arm, it was maybe the way I was holding the compound bow. I go to the Dr this week to get it checked out. Not sure what I did.
Hopefully you can get it figured out and heal quickly! Check out our video on draw length to ensure your bow is at the proper draw length for you: ruclips.net/video/reTwVM_cAPM/видео.html

great information. all ties together logically. thank you!
When you let down your bow. Do you let it down right from your anchor position or do you pull the bow a little away from your face then let down?
Finger off of the trigger and slightly away from my face.
I'm new to compound bows and trying to figure out how you're supposed to even grip the release. I've got the Patriot Trufire release and it feels like it's just gonna slip out of my hands and off my wrist trying to pull back the 70lb draw with it.

How do you keep from accidentally triggering the release with the trigger that short?
Like everyone said, this is a great video. Thanks.

Yes! I’ve only had it on for about a week and initially I didn’t like it.
