Just bought me my first compound bow and ordered a whisker biscuit that just came in so I’m glad I came across your vid! Now I know what my next step is
i know you all won't think this is true, but i backed over my bow a few days ago, Centered it. After replacing and bending back in place a few parts, i followed this video. With my new whisker biscuit assembly, quiver that was broken in half and a repaired brand new site i just purchased in the beginning of the season. I managed to tune it all back to zero. Being honest i was a little worried about the first shot. The main bow didn't seem to be bent, so i figured what the heck. Its broken, all i can do is try. Been shooting a bow for a long long time and never tuned one. Always took it to an archery shop. Figured they would just try to sell me a new one, so i said what the hey, give it a whirl. Thanks Average Jack, your helpful video's are priceless.
you do a really good job explaining everything, just getting started here with compounds after hunting crossbow for nearly 15 years. keep up the good work
Its always a good plan to use 3 fletched and 3 bare shafts rather than 1. Theres always the risk that if you chose one shaft, that could be the one that flies funny.
this is exactly what i do with my tuning, even drop aways. get bare and fletched grouping together and straight in the target, all good and verify it through paper and get bullet holes every time ive done it. great info thanks jack!
That was really helpful. Ive watched loads of tutorials but this is the best I’ve seen on arrow rest tuning. I’ll definitely be doing this on my own bow. Thanks buddy.
Fantastic video and very easy to understand. Thanks for doing this. I know dated from 2019 but when it's quality content it's timeless. Oh, I'm a subscriber too. Shoot on!
Very well illustrated! I love your videos as I said in an earlier post. You keep it simple, well spoken and dead on. I think after watching this one I’m gonna switch to a Whisker, I like the idea of it securing it in place, would make it easier going from tree hanger to shooting position.
I'm still using the old PSE prong horn arrow rest which allows micro adjustment left or right as well as spring tension. It works perfectly for me and I have no issue on vane clearance. Whiskers biscuit arrow rest don't last very long and need replacement from time to time but its easy to load an arrow. Thank you for your video and all the best for 2022..
If a hunter can't take a deer at under 40 yards with a whisker biscuit, it's definitely not the arrow, it's the indian. I went back to a nearly maintenance/issue-free whisker biscuit on my Mathews Z2 after my drop away failed me enough times and am very happy with it.
What a great video and way to explain this. I’m still new but always go the wrong way. Now I have this saved so I stop chasing my knocks around. Keep them up.
I am new to archery/bow hunting, bought an Ek Rex (Archery Research) i just came across this video n wish i did a week ago, i have been learning to tune my bow to me n spent way too long trying to figure it from the shop settings. So i took it all apart n spent hours tuning it through the site alone because i didnt know that about the knock point or whisker biscuit adjustment, but i must of got very lucky with where i set up the whisker biscuit (by eye 👁) because it shoots dead straight n leaves bullet holes with 3 perfect little tears. I have a 5 pin site with each interval at 10m, i am now grouping within 8" at 50m (54.6 yards) so im putting the rest down to my own steadiness 😅 Love ur videos n they are realy helping me understand my bow. Im going to change to a fall away style rest, but now knowing this information im not dreading the new tuning time, so thankyou for being so informative!
Great video. Much better than most, which mumble their words, use terms without explaining, and leave it to the viewer to work out what's going on. Well done!
I'm telling you what all of Average Jacks Archery Videos are awesome I watch them then watch again just to absorb every bit of knowledge they have in them. I think it would be kinda cool if he did a review on Walmart arrows especially the RealTree Edge since I'm new to Archery an thats what I'm putting down range. But thank you for these Videos your awesome God Bless you an your family.
So I started getting back into archery after 30 years away from it... it has changed quite a bit... so after 5 years I have my setup that works for me... alot of info I got from you... alot I had to learn myself... the biggest pain in the butt was switching from field points to broadheads and my accuracy was way off all of a sudden .... accidentally had a 2 inch fletch ( opposed to a 3 inch) and boom whaddya know fist size groupings with points and broadheads... great channel brother ! Now I just gotta figure out how to see more deer in bow range.... that's much harder than I was expecting on public land in coastal south carolina... I see deer everywhere outside the woods on public land... on wma properties???? They disappear after opening day archery season... don't care still love being in the woods and like the fetching ill figure it out.... thanks for all you do definately helps !
Took your advice on the video couldn’t get away from wanting to shoot the simple whisker biscuit turned out good started with a paper tune got a decent bullet hole then shot the fletched and bear shaft side-by-side and got great results thank you for the help.
I am just getting started in archery. Last week I bought a Bear Species. I know it's not the best bow, but I am just starting. This video helped with tuning the whisker biscuit. Thank you! New sub.
Don’t under estimate Bear I have paradox they make great bows. The only complaint I had was string quality get a 60X and maybe upgrade some components and tune it up nice at good archery shop and you will have a great bow
I know this video is really old but I thought I would mention for people who are trying to bareshaft tune. Part of the reason you are getting the slight nock high is because you are shooting at a downward angle. When I bareshaft I try to shoot with my target off the ground to where I'm shooting straight. Most of the time I actually shoot through paper because it's easier to see the tear but sometimes I don't have the time or the setup
Perfect! I shoot instinctive with a long bow, but my wife just switched to a compound and I'm trying to figure out how to get her dialed in. I know nothing about compounds! Haha! Thanks to this video, we're pretty much dialed in now! Thanks, man!
Thank you Jack! I always come here to remember the whisker biscuit information. My first tournament is next week and I'm grouping great with bareshaft + fletched, but my bareshafts are nock high and right. Your video will fix it :)
Thank you for your video. I have an older bow and my local archery store wanted me to spend money on a new bow. So I decided to keep my old bow and just upgrade it
I came to view this for the past troubles I experienced myself with bareshaft tuning a bow having a W/B. I would suggest skipping bare-shaft tuning for a W/B rest. I worked on bare-shaft tuning for a good amount of time, even portions of days, and the bare arrow always tilted upward a bit in the target...even though I did get both arrows to be side by side *(just as he mentions in the vid; "the nock tilting upward").* It would become worse when trying to adjust for its tilting. And I even went from a 0.32" medium hole biscuit (for a 0.30" diameter arrow) to the 0.38" large hole biscuit. So, and you might do so too, I eventually left it as good as I could get it. Chalking it all up to the shooting of one arrow w/o vanes and another w/vanes through the biscuit. And also for not being sure if it has to do with the reduction of rear weight, minus the vanes, and a resulting change in F.O.C... Or just because there are no vanes passing through the whiskers on the one arrow. I suppose adding matching weight, using tape, to a bare arrow might make a difference; and may be worthy of trying. But after days of working on this; to correct the upward tilt...I just gave up spending any more time doing this. So I then went straight to "broadhead tuning" and got it dialed in much quicker (less than 20 minutes); shooting arrows, with both field and blade tips, with vanes on them. I do miss my drop-away rests. But I switched to the W/B years ago after losing my fingers on my bow hand (work accident); and after an arrow tapping on the riser cost me a shot at a bull...for no finger to hold the arrow in its saddle on the shelf. I am considering another bow w/drop-away to use for when 3D shooting. When I need not worry about any such noise ruining my day/season. I would suggest, if you use the bow for hunting, to just go straight to broadhead tuning. And perhaps reserve bare-shaft tuning for a bow you only mean to target shoot with...and with a different rest. Even then I, personally, would likely broadhead tune the bow before going, and using it, to target shoot. It just makes it easier and quicker by eliminating this process. I do still nock tune all bare-shafts through paper before adding vanes; this after having it well tuned prior.
Dead Nuts Straight . Yaaaeeep! Representing Colville, WA . My homies daughter's nickname is Whisker Biscuit because of a thissle accident back in the day. BOW ON! BOW ON!
Thanks so much. Bought Bear Cruzer G2 online figured before shooting i would have local shop tune and go over everything. Couldn't figure out why my groups sucked until I adjusted to your method. local shop did nothing right.
You have a very good informative video! I like the way you explain things making it easy to understand. I did notice that at ten feet when you shot bare shaft you were nock high. Again you explained the rest to arrow relationship and adjustments for the result, but I don't think you weren't high because of a rest issue. At 6'4" you are definitely a tall glass of water however if you review the video your shot angle on release was quite a bit down hill and would explain the nock high result. Elevating the target to be even with your arrow at release might be a better set up.
Good video. I had my local pro shop install the Trophy Ridge Sure Shot Pro whisker biscuit on a Revolt X and tune it for me. I chose the biscuit over a drop away due to the arrow retention of the biscuit. Haven't sighted the bow out past 30 yards yet, but the arrows are flying straight and producing tight groups. I'm shooting a 29" Gold Tip Hunter XL 300 with a 100 gr brass insert and 100 gr field tip. I've seen a few of your other videos and like your style, giving you a subscribe. . .look forward to more videos.
Great instructions!! I will definitely use. Thoughts on the whisker biscuits with the 3 separate groups of bristles so that the fletching doesn’t have to touch any as they go through.
Thank you for the video. I like very much how you made them and the calm and good explanation you use. For this test I guess you don´t have to move from your shooting position to check the position of the tail. Can this method substitute the vare shaft paper tuning?.
Ideally yes the target would be level height wise with you as you shooting. Helping with the nocks height. I don't like to bareshaft paper tune whisker biscuit rests. I've pulled out too much hair in the past trying that. Fletched shafts I've worked out okay but this is my go to method when I'm tuning a WB.
Hey Brother. Outstanding video. I have a 2007 Diamond Triumph (I know it's old.) that I recently switched from using a whisker biscuit to a brush capture rest. I tried the 13/16 inch and my arrow was kicked way to the right just sitting in the rest. I found out that Diamond says to measure from the back of the riser to the arrow, then the front of the riser to the arrow. Until they're equal. I found my bow is set at a 1-1/16 inch center. I haven't done any paper tuning or bare shaft tuning. My arrows are grouping real nice as is. Just in case there is another Triumph still out there being shot. I doubt it though. LOL.
Christopher Hardt I actually didn’t get one with an enclosure for the arrow so every time I drew back the drop away would flip up and the arrow would pop up out of the rest
Christopher Hardt I don’t know if you got one already or not. But honestly their a bit of a hassle it’s always just one more thing that’s mechanical and could fail. A whisker biscuit is just simple, set it and done. They claim the bristles slow it down but it’s such an insignificant amount, say maybe the one with the drop away will hit half an inch higher at like 45 yards. Not worth it IMO but it looks cool
I'm shooting with a whisker biscuit in Michigan's thumb region. What problems have you experienced in the snow? I just got my second deer and have plenty to learn. Teach me?
One been hunting with a bow since I was about 13 and put the whisker biscuit on shortly after it came out. I’m now 38 and have been thinking about switching to a drop away. They were not what they are today when I made the switch in my late teens early twenties. Any suggestions on type or discouragement against the idea?
Thanks for the video. I will try this tuning method. I'm shooting a whisker biscuit and having troubles with the speed Fletching steering my arrow, especially with fixed blade broadheads. My old setup using fixed 2 blades, standard 4" vanes with aggressive helical worked. I switched to the longer 4" vanes with minimal twist angle available these days and it is better but I still have a flyer occasionally, any recommendations? thanks. I tried using mechanical broadheads but are concerned they may not fly like field points and prefer to practice with my broadheads.
i don't understand how you can shoot at a downward angle (you 6'4'' and the target on the ground) to tune a level arrow? Great video I'm just too new to make full sense of it all, can you elaborate?. I came here looking for info on fore and aft set up of whisker biscuit. great job though, very insightful.
It needs to be higher when he's testing forsure. However a little up or down isn't a terrible thing. Most Olympic archers will use it to their advantage. I've been told it takes a lot of human error out of the shot
Question, does it matter if the target is on the ground or should it be elevated to chest height or so. Also when adjusting height are you saying field point should chase the knock. As in if knock high then raise the whisker biscuit up some? Thanks for your help in advance
really glad i seen this video. im new to bows basically. i was undecided between a drop and a WB. Looks like a Wisker for me all the way. Ill let ya know how it goes. One thing is for sure, DONT BUY THEE CHEAP KNOCK OFF with the blocks that hold the brushes, they are vane killers. costly mistake and not tunable with fletching path.. thanks.
I feel like my bows d loop was installed incorrectly 😕 it seems to be a bit high? I am new to archery and still learning everything. My arrows still seem to be pointing up but my whisker biscuit doesn't seem to be adjustable up and down. It does have a screw for that but it just seems to tighten the rest to the frame and one to go side to side left to right. I just put the dead mans rest back on because i couldn't get to whisker biscuit to adjust. Any suggestions?
Excellent video. Been pulling my hair out a bit trying to tune bow myself as no pro shops locally. I paper tuned and was getting bullets and grouped ok at 25yds. Tried the bare shaft method and it's way out of whack. I'm way knock up, and when I drop my d loop it becomes dramatically out of perpendicular to string. No matter how far down I go it stays knock up. This is my first year into archery, still working on my form but nothing terribly out of order. I have a 28.5in draw length 58lbs ish and am shooting 340 spine arrows. Some are 32" which shows underspined on chart, but recently bought easton 6.5 hunter classics at 30" and a vaned arrow shows the same orientation at 12ft as bare shaft, knock way up. Left/right is ok. Am I missing something? Can it be the spine if they mimic each other? Can form make that much of a difference? Thanks for any input. Running out of ideas
this is really helpful - have been referencing this video: quick question - I have had some issues with vertical groups (i.e. groups that are pretty much dead on windage-wise but spread out vertically). This is probably due to need for vertical adjustment correct?
Thanks for sharing this. I have only ever used a whisker biscuit since I got my bow in 06. I did watch this close to when it came out, but a refresher is nice. I did move my rest a little this past off season. I think that I need to get a new one, the fibers are getting worn out. Can someone shoot 4 vanes or a helical vane set up through a biscuit?
@@averagejackarchery Thank you for the reply I was thinking the standard 2.5 degree helical. I know some if not all single bevel broadheads usually ask if one is right or left helical as well. I may try those this year too.
I know this is 2 years later but those V-Whiskers are only good with light arrows...Even medium weight arrows make the V sag a bit...I have a Hoyt Turbo Tec, Mathews VXR, and PSE EVO EVL and they're all set up with Full Whiskers and they're all dead on up to 80 yards...Never a had 1 single problem with them...
would you recommend doing this before messing with any sights. Im new to archery, been shooting all weekend and got my bow shooting decent groups....however they do kinda crooked thru the air. Im thinking now that i feel more comfortable shooting, i should do exactly this to get the bow shooting better
@@averagejackarchery Ok I have another question about arrows. So i bought some basic arrows on amazon (just in case i damage some on accident) Anyway, Id like to know if they are the "correct" arrows you would recommend or not. I have a draw weight of 50lbs. i have a draw length of 30" The arrows i ordered are 30" shafts, plus tip making them 31.5 overall length. They are a 500 spine. 13 gpi. They seem to shoot fine, but have alot of wobble out of the bow (which is why i watched this video, I need to adjust my rest) anyway, i have some arrows that are the same length, 400 spine and 8.0 gpi. These are alot faster out of my bow. Both shoot about the same groups.... what arrows would you recommend. The 400 spine, 8.0 gpi arrows are alot more fun to shoot. They are alot faster it seems and have less wobble....however the 500 spine arrows are heavier and they might group slightly better
Dude, this was a throughout explanation and demonstration. As a teacher I am really impressed on your delivery.
Just bought me my first compound bow and ordered a whisker biscuit that just came in so I’m glad I came across your vid! Now I know what my next step is
I think Average Jack is a middle school teacher too. Definitely a thorough lesson 👍🎯
i know you all won't think this is true, but i backed over my bow a few days ago, Centered it. After replacing and bending back in place a few parts, i followed this video. Followed the video and worked great. Only change I made was I raised my target up to bow level. Seems a more accurate way to tell tail high or low.
you do a really good job explaining everything, just getting started here with compounds after hunting crossbow for nearly 15 years. keep up the good work
Its always a good plan to use 3 fletched and 3 bare shafts rather than 1. Theres always the risk that if you chose one shaft, that could be the one that flies funny.

That was really helpful. Ive watched loads of tutorials but this is the best I’ve seen on arrow rest tuning. I’ll definitely be doing this on my own bow. Thanks buddy.
You are the only one who explain it breafly and effectively.
Thnak you
As I had commented earlier in another video, thanks for the vids your channel has gotten me back into bow hunting after 30 years.
Fantastic video and very easy to understand. Thanks for doing this. I know dated from 2019 but when it's quality content it's timeless. Oh, I'm a subscriber too. Shoot on!

Just thinking about doing the same. Easier, quieter, dependable, accurate, I have QAD Ultra drop aways and I think I'm going back.
QAD HDX hit the trash can. Back to a whisker biscuit.
Same here. Worry free/ quiet whisker B any day for under 40 yards
Same here! Ditched the drop away and went back to the biscuit!!!
But you will lose 3 fps.. speed you need at least 300 fps
Followed this video and I was finally able to get my broad heads and field points on the same point of impact. Thank you Nate!
Thank you for the video on how these types of arrow rest. For a novice, like me it is excellent.
Super simple you explained better than anyone else on RUclips.
Appreciate it! Glad it helped!
What a great video and way to explain this. I’m still new but always go the wrong way. Now I have this saved so I stop chasing my knocks around. Keep them up.
Good explanation and demonstration, thanks.

@user-ii1iy8fz1d thanks for confidence, I ordered the Apache fall away rest last night
Great video. Much better than most, which mumble their words, use terms without explaining, and leave it to the viewer to work out what's going on. Well done!
Great help Nate. Really thinking of going back to a containment rest for hunting 😁

Took your advice on the video couldn’t get away from wanting to shoot the simple whisker biscuit turned out good started with a paper tune got a decent bullet hole then shot the fletched and bear shaft side-by-side and got great results thank you for the help.
thanks Nate; followed your instructions: just shot 4 at 20 yards to test your system out.... 4 arrows touching!! never did that beofre!! IT WORKS!!
I am just getting started in archery. Last week I bought a Bear Species. I know it's not the best bow, but I am just starting. This video helped with tuning the whisker biscuit. Thank you! New sub.

I know this video is really old but I thought I would mention for people who are trying to bareshaft tune. Most of the time I actually shoot through paper because it's easier to see the tear but sometimes I don't have the time or the setup
His draw length is a tad too short also, that's why he's getting that punch at release.

When I got my used Hoyt Prevail, I shot it with a used whisker biscuit. While people looked at the setup all weird, it still shot great!
thx for another great video! I'm just a beginner looking for info. you explain things better than most.
Excellent video. Thanks a ton for making this tutorial quick and thorough! God bless and happy hunting.
Thanks a lot for helping out beginners like me … thumbs up !
Just found this and what a great way of explaining things , quite new to compound bows , will be watching your channel lots

As someone just thinking about getting into archery I am really amazed at how true an unfletched arrow can fly.
Think about Amazon hunters. Their arrows are 6-10' long , no fletchings.
"Chasing the point" makes it easy to remember.
Thanks so much. Bought Bear Cruzer G2 online figured before shooting i would have local shop tune and go over everything. Couldn't figure out why my groups sucked until I adjusted to your method. local shop did nothing right.

I didn't even recognize you without your hat😆 awesome video 🤘🤘
Thank you for the video. I like very much how you made them and the calm and good explanation you use.
For this test I guess you don´t have to move from your shooting position to check the position of the tail.
Can this method substitute the vare shaft paper tuning?.
Ideally yes the target would be level height wise with you as you shooting. Helping with the nocks height.
I don't like to bareshaft paper tune whisker biscuit rests. I've pulled out too much hair in the past trying that. Fletched shafts I've worked out okay but this is my go to method when I'm tuning a WB.
😅Iam glad I found this video I’ve been struggling for two days 😂thanks for the video!
Think you do a great job fella, thanks from across the pond.
Got em landing at 90° to the target face👍😎 Thanks..
Perfect teacher! Thank you!
LOL.
I was sick of my drop away , so I just switched back to a whisker biscuit, great knowledge, I will give the bare arrow method a try, thanks Bub
Greetings. You said, "I was sick of my drop away...". Why? I've been considering a drop away, perhaps you can spare me the trouble.
Excellent video: quick, easy to follow, not too technical (it's for hunting, not for shooting black dots)!
HOLY SXXX!!!! You solved my issue as to why my sight was bottomed out.
Great job explaining this man. new sub
I like the wisker biscuit in warm weather, not so much in the snow storms we get up north
I'm shooting with a whisker biscuit in Michigan's thumb region. What problems have you experienced in the snow? I just got my second deer and have plenty to learn. Teach me?
Awesome video. Thank you for share your knowledge.
Heck of a job explaining
Great info. I like others am new to the sport of archery. This will help me. I also have a WB and will continue to use it.
Thanks
Super helpful video, thanks a bunch!
Thank you
Another excellent instructional video. Thanks
I generally run a drop away but always have a Whisker on hand! when I’m messing around in the off season I always run one.
One been hunting with a bow since I was about 13 and put the whisker biscuit on shortly after it came out. I’m now 38 and have been thinking about switching to a drop away. They were not what they are today when I made the switch in my late teens early twenties. Any suggestions on type or discouragement against the idea?
Great video and instructions.
Thanks for the video.
I will try this tuning method.
I'm shooting a whisker biscuit and having troubles with the speed Fletching steering my arrow, especially with fixed blade broadheads. My old setup using fixed 2 blades, standard 4" vanes with aggressive helical worked.
I switched to the longer 4" vanes with minimal twist angle available these days and it is better but I still have a flyer occasionally, any recommendations? thanks.
I tried using mechanical broadheads but are concerned they may not fly like field points and prefer to practice with my broadheads.
thank you. Very clear.
i don't understand how you can shoot at a downward angle (you 6'4'' and the target on the ground) to tune a level arrow? Great video I'm just too new to make full sense of it all, can you elaborate?. I came here looking for info on fore and aft set up of whisker biscuit. great job though, very insightful.
It needs to be higher when he's testing forsure. However a little up or down isn't a terrible thing. Most Olympic archers will use it to their advantage. I've been told it takes a lot of human error out of the shot
Bend at waist, do not lower arms to target ... ALWAYS bend at waist when changing angle with a bow.
Very well explained, thank you!
Great video, what a guy
Holy bat snot that is some great brand new shooter here set up a whisker biscuit on recruve bow keep shooting to the right hopes this fixes it
I don’t even shoot arrows but wow what an informative bit of information.👍
Your video helped a lot! But no matter what I do, the arrow rest up or down the knock always seems a high
One thing is for sure, DONT BUY THEE CHEAP KNOCK OFF with the blocks that hold the brushes, they are vane killers. costly mistake and not tunable with fletching path.. thanks.
Great video man. Thanks for sharing
Thank you! This was very helpful👍
Great video, well explained.
Thank you for a great video. Gam you shoot vanes with helical with a WB? I have seen videos that say you have to shoot strait vanes...
Yes, you can. Just don't want the helical to be a severe one.
Great video!
I learned a lot from that video
Im going to try this today, defenenitly help a lot!
O yeah it works! Most of the time.... need to work on my form badly. Can't seem to stay consistent.
Yes! Just have to be careful with the amount of helical. A little goes a long way with a biscuit.
@@averagejackarchery Thank you for the reply I was thinking the standard 2.5 degree helical. I know some if not all single bevel broadheads usually ask if one is right or left helical as well. I may try those this year too.
@@TheWVgoodguy22 Yes. All single bevels perform best when the edge bevel matches the helical.
I wonder if the new whisker biscuit v is gonna be any good? I've always had drop aways but part of me likes the look of the new V
Great information as usual bro. Appreciate it, very helpful.
would you recommend doing this before messing with any sights. Im new to archery, been shooting all weekend and got my bow shooting decent groups....however they do kinda crooked thru the air. Im thinking now that i feel more comfortable shooting, i should do exactly this to get the bow shooting better
Yes! Always figure out your tune first, THEN sight in your bow.
13 gpi. They seem to shoot fine, but have alot of wobble out of the bow (which is why i watched this video, I need to adjust my rest)
anyway, i have some arrows that are the same length, 400 spine and 8.0 gpi.
Great video. Super explanatory thanks
