I have not practice anything more than 30 yards. At home I can only shoot up to 75 ft with various weight and vanes arrows. As long as I can hit an orange or apple up to 30 yds I'm quite satisfied. Thank you for your video.
Awesome video to show simple hunting accuracy at hunting distances for basic hunters using basic generic equipment and excellent designed broadheads. For hunting, this all you need. Great video.
Just did this , shot arrows at 30 yards with broad head . Nock tuned until they were bullets, then shot them at 40 and if they were bullets then arrows are good . If not , went back to 30 and made slight adjustments till bullets , then 40 again. Had 3 out of 9 arrows not behave well so they are strictly target arrows. Thanks for info!
Great video. I always bare shaft and nock tune my arrows for field points but never thought about having to change the nock tune for my broadheads. Thanks for the info, I love this channel

Hey brother - I’ve been using your vids since I started archery and I’ve probably got more valuable information from you than just about anywhere else. You’re a great teacher - obviously! - so um..... keep doing that! With love from Aus.
Just a suggestion but I would like to see you set 3rd axis. You go into detail a lot more than other guys. Also a lot of us are hunting from tree stands or saddles.
Excellent and easy to follow tuning method. I need to make a paper tuning stand then do the same process with my on the heavier side of the bell 🔔 curve arrow (511 grain with standard nock, little more with the lighted nock. 11.25 gpi because of the camo wrap) for my 60 lb bow at 29 in draw. I tried the Magnus Stinger Buzzcut 100 grain with that arrow setup and they planed often. So did the other two blade I tried. Not sure 🤔 why? Great shooting by the way. I wish that my 15 or 20 yard groups look like your 40.
Yep, a lot of people tune with their factory nocks and then swap out for lighted come hunting seasons. The throat and weight of the lighted nocks are completely different.
Just in case anyone was wondering. Yes, the EZ-V sight does work amazingly well. I honestly thought it was a gimmick, when on a gamble and bought it. I'm happy i did. Ill be hunting with mine this fall. My bow is pretty slow as well, 230 Fps with my heavier arrows. Still works excellent.
Thanks for the videos. I received my new Remedy after 10 weeks on order. I was installing the rest but could not find anything in the manual on 13/16ths. I called Elite and they said to nock an arrow and put another arrow on the riser and adjust the rest so the nocked arrow was parallel. They said that was in the manual also, but I didn't see it.. I looked at the manual on my Bear bow and it said same thing. This is my first time setting up a bow by myself.
Love you video and I love archery! Thank you so much for your help! Because there there’s a lot of stuff that goes into it and you make it really easy.
Very smart!!!! I like how you approach field points and broadheads. That is what to look for and how to work with a missed behave arrow!!!! Also, do you clock your broadheads in all the arrows? Thanks Mike
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with everybody! Here is unsolicited tip for video recording 😉 Don't use auto focus on stationary shots, your hands get in front of you and AF starts hunting. This can be distracting, especially on close shots. Archery equivalent would be using Garmin's Xero A1 sight for 20 yard indoor shoot.
I used to do something similar when I couldn’t afford nice matched arrows for my bows and crossbow… I would Go to Walmart when they put all of the loose arrows out, And I would buy maybe 15 of them. I would fire them all at a target, and identify which ones would not group with the rest of the pack. I would return those ones and swap them out for others. Then I would repeat the process until I had a batch of arrows that all grouped nicely. I would then identify one or two of the arrows that consistently hit in the center of the group, and kept those as my “control” arrows. I used them as my gold standard to compare other arrows or configurations against to judge if they would all hold the same point of impact.
Nate I really enjoy your videos they are very educational. So educational that I brought some of the knowledge to the Bow Dr. at the local shop to get a physical and the Technician said Joe your overthinking this entirely to much lol Also you teaching folks to be self sufficient is taking away from pro shops income. 😉 They said hopefully most people don’t pay attention aswell as I do lol . Technician said To make a long story short… your bow isn’t just riser limbs cams etc. he said it’s a unit. Mess with 1 thing something else needs attention just hunt with it don’t overwhelm yourself
Following Nate's tips and advice... Even I am getting MUCH better arrow flight.. I bare shaft paper tuned and got.... BULLET HOLES YIPPEEE!!!!!!!!! I have actually noticed my arrows are hitting the targets harder. I can hear the difference and I can see the targets moving. I must be doing it right because I was shooting broadheads today. 125 grain heads. A Magnus Stinger Buzzcut and a Slick Trick Magnum and with both heads.. Same point of impact. Those heads are not exactly the same LOL Next up is my Obsession Hemorrhage DE. That is set up at a higher draw weight and I am easing back to shooting that one. Hell, I am just happy I can draw ANY bow again :) Thanks again for all the great info!!
Jack, I like the logic on taking/arrow and seeing the flight then unscrewing the broadhead and placing on another!!!! The question I have is because the SEVR is approximately 2 inches long, my length of arrow is 29 inches, can this CHANGE my dynamic setup to where it weakens the spine????? Thanks Jack
Yup. For a basic hunting setup its paper tuning, sight in, followed by broadhead tuning and then a final sight in if need be. Done. Easy peasy. Now go practice and have fun. Target archery is a whole separate ball game.

great video. wrt paper tuning: it can drive people nuts if they do the paper tuning by shooting the bow too close to the paper (might not have enough room in the garage etc.). For paper tuning it is crucial to understand that every arrow will bend at launch, thus if you are too close, you will see a tear - even if the bow is perfectly tuned it would be a vertical tear. When moving away from the paper the arrow will recover from the initial buckling (even without fletching with the correct spine) and will produce a bullet hole. Hence paper tuning only works if you are a few arrow lengths away from the paper.
@@averagejackarchery yes, because the amplitude of the buckling is now much smaller. As the arrow isn't propelled anymore by the acceleration due to the string (the arrow has to fly on the KE he got from the initial acceleration) the buckling is decreasing now due to the inner friction the buckling movement causes the further away the arrow is. Take your well tuned arrows and bow and shoot them through paper with the tip of the arrow just an inch away from the paper and you should see a vertical tear. Eta: hm,...just tested it in my garage - the tear really barely differs from a bullet hole (I couldn't get close enough as I didn't want to remove the sight), but I can see if the bow is well tuned and you don't get a bullet hole the distance from the paper is very likely not the cause.... so I debunked my own theory here 😀. Eta: ...call me a nerd... I'm just tested it with 1 to 1.5 x arrow lengths away from the paper and there I get the vertical tear, not a big tear, but now clearly noticeable ...further away and it becomes again a bullet hole and stays a bullet hole when increasing the distance further 😁
I have 2 broadheads I’m having issues with, both are solid blades, one is a 3 blade and one is a 2 blade. Both hit 6” higher than field points. My micro hades 3 blade hits with my field points.
Brah, the arrow your holding is the EXACT one I set up and used the last 2 years. Epic kill shots on whitetails... The have a spline align marking on them. Saves time. I fletched my own tho

I wouldn't rely on the weight of arrow, but more on the bowstring. I thought of using carbon nanotube, see if it has more Kinetic Energy to get the job done.
You should check out the victory Vap gamers in a 250 spine. My build at 28" carbon to carbon ended up a nice weight of 500 gr in a micro diameter. And they didn't break the bank. Outfitted with 3" parabolic fletchings and VAP P2 inserts.
I had a Bowtech Assassin about 12 years ago. Straight from the shop this bow shaved fletching like it was cool. Tack driver. Not knowing how to tune broadheads first shot didn't hit the target and lost the arrow lol.
So should I take my bow and new arrows to a local bow shop and paper tune it first then come home and do this or? I don’t have no way to paper tune at home
Yes! It definitely can be used with crossbows too. The biggie with crossbows is making sure the cams are "in time" just a regular bow. that will greatly affect broadhead flight.
Tuning is relative meaning that one can only tune as well as they can shoot. The better one can shoot, the better one can tune. This is why a lot of guys don't/won't paper tune. They can't get bullet holes even if the bow is tuned to shoot them. So, they go to another "tuning" method so they can feel like their bow is tuned. I have the Magnus Black Hornet and I have to spend a decent amount of time aligning the blade with the center cock vane… how did you get by without doing so?
Great video. Which spine victory vforce arrow would you recommend for my setup ? Elite energy 35. 28 inch draw length. 55 lb peak weight. 28 inch long arrows. 100 grain point. Please keep the videos coming. I enjoy them and I learn a lot from them.
Nice and simple. One question though. With the easy tuning process, think using the lighted nocks you plan to hunt with would make a difference in your nock tuning??
Is it important to Index the broadhead so they face the same way like inline with the cockfeather or do you find it doesn't matter? Thanks so much for the video and keep up the great work!
I've been very happy/impressed with the Victory VForce Elite arrows, because each arrow is spine aligned to the cock feather from the factory. If you shoot with the cock feather up, the bottom of the shaft is perfectly smooth (no paint or arrow decal sliding across your rest). I also like their ICE coating. My local archery shop set these arrows up with slightly heavier brass inserts, & I have been extremely pleased. I started out with a half dozen to try out a number of years ago, & I had a matching dozen set up the following year.
That's all I shoot Victory vap elite 400 buy mine on ebay for 150.00 a dozen...I have hundreds of them....They cut thru the wind and enter targets deep super small dia the best easy to shoot 80 yards...................
my bow is untunable i maxed out right yoke twists, tried moving rest both directions, tried weak and stiff arrows and bareshaft i still tearing like 7cm nock right tear, is it possible somehow to tune it or it's the bow being too cheap and untunable
Good video Thanks! One question though, will nock tuning go out of whack if and when you remove/ reinstall the broadhead into the arrow? Depending on how hard you screw it in? Sorry if it's a dumb question.
Great video. Are you concerned with all your broadheads being aligned the same? When you turn your nock that would change your broadhead alignment on that one arrow. Do you realign it after?
A Bell Curve arrow is a term I came up with to mean an arrow that follows the normality of how arrows are intended to be built. Select the shaft based on draw length, weight, and arrow length. Use the stock, normal isert, and screw on a 100 or 125 grain normal point. Boom - Bell Curve arrow.
Hey mate, would you be able to tell me the reason why my eastern axis 5mm will nock tune with standard nocks but when i put nocturnals in it won't budge on leaving a nock high tare? Thanks in advance also love your content 👍
Two very different nock styles. The Axis come with a short throat, very tight, Bohning Blazer nock. The Nockturnal is more like a Bohning Double Lock nock. Different clip onto the string.
@@averagejackarchery same here this is why I like to buy strings that are made twisted counter clockwise. I varify right hand clocking before I fletch. Question, since your set up clocks left and you fletch left do you find your feild points need to be hand tightend after pulling them out of a target before the next shot? Guess I'm wondering if left spin will actually tighten a broadhead when target is hit?
@@jhuntley575 I actually use a tiny dab of hot melt on all the ends of my field point and broadhead ferrules before screwing them into the insert. I do that regardless of left or right fletch. I just hate when they rattle loose.

Jack, also if you nock tune and nothing really changes, then what???
Good to see an EZV sight my friend
Well done
I have the Magnus Black Hornet and I have to spend a decent amount of time aligning the blade with the center cock vane… how did you get by without doing so?
I don't sweat it! Just screw them on and shoot! 🤷
400 spine
@@averagejackarchery thank you.I appreciate you.
Nice and simple. One question though. With the easy tuning process, think using the lighted nocks you plan to hunt with would make a difference in your nock tuning??
Shhhh....I'm testing as we speak... 😎
@@averagejackarchery Ah I see. Report back with your findings professor.
Is it important to Index the broadhead so they face the same way like inline with the cockfeather or do you find it doesn't matter? Thanks so much for the video and keep up the great work!
I have found through years of tuning that it doesn't matter.
Your shooting the EZ V sight. Did you do a review on the EZ V?
Just search "EZV average jack" here on RUclips and you'll see all my ezv videos.
Another great video. Love the pink teepee in the background. LOL
Another fantastic video! So you're in the Northeast? Which state, curious? NH here
Central PA.
curious why you swapped the Ez-V for a pin sight when going outdoors?
Can't compete with the EZV. Illegal in IBO events that we have in PA.
my bow is untunable i maxed out right yoke twists, tried moving rest both directions, tried weak and stiff arrows and bareshaft i still tearing like 7cm nock right tear, is it possible somehow to tune it or it's the bow being too cheap and untunable
Good video Thanks!
One question though, will nock tuning go out of whack if and when you remove/ reinstall the broadhead into the arrow? Depending on how hard you screw it in?
Sorry if it's a dumb question.
Nope! The broadheads will run out of threads and you can only screw them in so far!
@@averagejackarchery thank you for the reply!
What is that type of scope? , I mean the aiming thing in your scope I just forgot the name
I got over off the ezv sights like you got, but for the life of me, I can't get the grasp of it. Any help with that?
Great content, appreciate u sharing ur knowledge
So TLDR is paper tune, then nock tune with pre-fletched factory arrows?
I am going to assume this will work with lighted nocks too, yes??
Yes! Good question.
Great video. Are you concerned with all your broadheads being aligned the same? When you turn your nock that would change your broadhead alignment on that one arrow. Do you realign it after?
Nope. Don't sweat it at all.
Is it ok to have a right helical if the bow shoots "left spin"
Absolutely! Non issue.
Any suggestions for muzzy hybrid mechanical broadheads? Trocar hbx
What are your thoughts on the EZV sight?
I have several videos on the topic. Check the channel out!
Do you align the broadheads in any specific way or just screw them on?
Just screw them on!
@@averagejackarchery that's what I figured lol
what exactly is a bell curve arrow?
@@averagejackarchery thanks for the reply mate
It's the way the string is twisted and the way the center serving is cross twisted to the string that causes natural left or right rotation correct?
That's what I've come to believe, yes.
Not always but it seems to be the rule.of.thumb
Innovated outdoorsman did video on this👍
So if it Flys and hits at 40 where you want it. Will it hit at 60 or 70 in the same spot? (Western hunter)
Only you shooting it will be able to tell! I don't see why not though.
