Paper tuning is very important you do not want the arrow hitting what your shooting at sideways. You need perfect arrow flight to shoot fixed blade broadheads. Thank you for the video

About to start tuning my own stuff going to buy a little cheap press to get started been toying with the idea for a couple years now and I think this might be the best video I’ve ever seen on set up
Great vid Dan! A lot of people that can’t get a big fixed head to fly great always think it’s the broadhead, when in reality it’s either their bow isn’t tuned, their arrow has problems (not spined correctly, or arrow components aren’t square) or there is a problem with their form. Most times it has nothing to do with the head.
Dan, I really enjoyed video that you did on Broadhead tuning. Recently, while I was hunting, i noticed that my pin was a little to the left of my arrow and my string at rest. I thought I had seen this all in one before, so I made an adjustment when I got back to the camp. And got it in line. I did shoot it add a short yardage because it was dark and I couldn’t see much past the light from the cabin. It shot well and so I thought that’s how it should be. But watching you turn this broad head and show that the pen should be a little to the left, really came home to me as yesterday I hit a deer Left of where my thought on and was not able to recover the Eno. It was a very doable shot, and I should have made a double one yet, but instead, I hit shoulder and was not able to recover Leanna. I wish I had seen your video sooner, because in moving my pin to the right, I move my point of that impact to the left and what I thought was a chip shot. Ended up being a nightmare for me. Thank you for this great video and I hope others are paying close attention to what you’re presenting.
I am really sorry to hear that, bowhunting can cause mind games for sure. Yeah the pin will always be out of plane to the left of your arrow in the resting position on a right handed bow. This reflects how much torque your bow has that is caused by the cable guard. -Dan
I find it helps to visualize what is happening (nock left/right). For those new to this issue, I hold one index finger up a few inches in front of my nose (the "string") then with the other hand, form a "V" with my index/middle fingers (the "rest") and hold that out a few inches beyond my single finger. Now, I can visualize where the rest aligns with respect to the string. His description of nock-left, and the adjustment of the rest to correct it, now makes sense.
Good example. How I think of it is like having fletchings on the front of the arrow and the direction the front is pointing will steer the arrow unless the rear fletching is much larger overpowering the front fletching. Hence why very large fletching and or a small folding broadhead are sometimes used to put a bandaid on a poorly tuned bow.
Best arrow rest tuning video I've found and I've watched a few. Also I have a whisker biscuit new to bow hunting this year and now I have baseball size groups with broadhead and field tips. Thanks so much man was I getting frustrated 😂
As a newbie this was super helpful. I've spent weeks finding some of these things out by experimenting and accident. I have never seen this put into one concise video. Thank you.
Glad it helped. If you don't know what spine of arrow your bow likes then I suggest you start with bare shaft tuning then move into this broadhead tune. -Dan
Wow, after shooting for over forty years I see how easy it can be. BTW, I have a MATHEWS VXR 28 LH. I can say it's the best Mathews I've ever owned. Great how to video
Wow I can't believe the timing of you video release! I was just looking for this information today, the day it posted! Great info, thanks a ton Dan! I'm hunting spring bear here in MT and have never been able to pair my field tips with broadheads, seasonally switching sucks!
Been shooting compounds for well over 25 years. Just started using paper tuning about 5 years ago AS A BASE LINE BEGINNING!!! Generally you or someone withyou can see bad arrow flight. The main thing is setting everything straight through the centerline of the bow to start with. If you can video arrow flight that's a good place to start or have someone using binoculars watch the flight. Erratic flight can usually be seen through binoculars. Great video here. Just a simple set up getting it done
Thanks a lot brother I appreciate the truth and honesty the bow shop I go to acts like he can't let me see how to adjust my bow because it takes out of his pocket but you just explained a whole lot of stuff to me and that's why I subscribed thanks again

Bare shaft tuning is needed if you don't know what spine your bow likes. I've set up tons of Mathews bows and know what they like so I'm kind of cheating. haha Also if you can't get this quick method to work for you, you will need to bare shaft tune and then start your broadhead tune over. -Dan

That's it folks, pack it up- this is the bowhunter's bow setup video that everybody needs. I landed on this method after years of ignorance and abject failure (eyeballing arrows for berger hole & cam center, then move sight, then BH tune). I regret ever listening to the "pro shop" that told me to just move my sights for broadheads- that is the absolute worst thing possible, and that shop probably set me back several years of learning. If BH and field points don't hit the same, then the arrow isn't flying straight, and your broadhead won't go into the animal like it should- hard to drive the arrow in when it's hitting sideways. That being said, this all assumes you're using a properly spined arrow. Changing weight up front dramatically effects dynamic spine, and things can get really weird if you're underspined. And you always have to have a solid, neutral grip on the bow.
Hi there its Tim! Just wanted to say thanks for the great tips! & that me and the wife love watching your videos. & just wanted to say i been wanting that EXACT same bow there ya got.. I hear from a couple different buddies of mine that has it say its a really good bow. sorry lol but just had to say wish i had it! Best of luck to ya in the woods. As always keep the videos coming & Great hunting to ya! God bless!!!
Excellent video. I especially like the parts about looking downward from the top of the bow and aligning (eyeballing) the arrow with the centerline. I don’t know why I have never done that. The other part you explained extremely well is what to do with nock high, low, left, and right.
Thanks once again for another interesting and informative video on a great topic. I admittedly struggle with getting my fixed blade broadheads to fly or hit close to my field points. But that was my fault I switched to a heavier arrow (11.25 gpi at 29 inch draw and 45 grain insert and 100 grain cut on contact broadheads, would have tried 125 or 150 but online and local retailers were out or don't carry) too late in the preseason and only shot those and no field points since that's what I was hunting with. 20 yards was "fine" but 30 was all over the place and I didn't even sight for 40 and 50. Whitetail woods usually doesn't offer shots more than 35 anyway. I am working on getting my old 2006 PSE ready for spring turkey. Not sure if I should switch to a wide cut mechanical for turkey then back to fixed for deer or just stick with the fixed all the way through
I'm very interested in tuning and setting up my own stuff in the future but not ganna lie its a little intimidating. This video made me feel better! Thanks dude!
You bet! You can do it!! I also suggest watching my other tuning video on tuning any bow, before you broadhead tune. It will make your life even easier. -Dan
Great video, been putting off broadhead tuning because everyone seems to overcomplicate it by adding paper tuning and bareshaft tuning and that's just a bunch of stuff for newer archers. Glad to see I can get my broadheads shooting accurately without all that extra work that I'm not confident I could do correctly.
I still suggest bare shaft tuning before you broadhead tune if you aren't totally sure what spine you'll need to start with. I have another video on that. -Dan
This is great! Paper tuning sucks! I love how relaxed your explanation was. Makes me much less apprehensive about doing this tuning process myself. Thank you for making this video!! Good luck this fall.
Hello Allie. Not only are you charming but this video is really informative. I am going to buy a chronograph…..if not to better chose an arrow but to also gauge my sight on my bow. I pull 65 pounds on a compound and 52 on a recurve. Really interesting video and top of it……not too long. Some guys manage to bore you stiff sometimes
Love the video, very informative like Spines says. Great job! I still paper tune in my shop but when it comes to hunting as you say, close kills! lol. Great job.
Iv been shooting bows over 20 yrs and have had no problem. 6 different bows same combo 5 inch helical fletch feathers 3 blade hundred grain muzzy. Field points and broadheads hit exact same place no messing with the sights.
I really like this informative bow setup tutorial. Set up and tuned my backup bow and it shoots great. Next step is the broad head tuning. Ran out of daylight.
Not sure what was more impressive, the speed that you tuned that bow or that your peep didn't go flying. I've sent a couple peeps rocketing around my garage while paper tuning without having them tied in.
Great stuff man! Definitely simplified the process. I appreciate the time and effort you put in to this. I wish the guys at my local archery shop weren’t so snobby about literally Everything, they make archery out to be an elitist activity like golf or something. I have started cutting and squaring my own arrows just so I don’t have to go there. If they were regular guys like you they would make more of my money. LoL.
Had the bow set up at a pro shop. It performed just fine ruclips.net/user/postUgkxQEKUoxLWwayEDZR0NKB-5limn4MBU-2L . And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older. But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. I retract the above statement.
This is great! Ive done it. However, domt skip shooting through paper. It can help indicate weak spine, as well as if your cams need to be adjusted left OR right (KNOWING THAT YOUR REST IS DEAD CENTER) once thats achieve and timing etc is achieved, then go ahead and do this broad head tune. I learned the hard way!
Had my bow worked on at a pro shop charge me a bunch of money for some repair parts got hit to sight it in, mind you I'm new to the game got home bow shot like crap, just watch your video and everything was out of wack, just sighted it in and lined up the arrow like you said . Can't wait to fire her off tomorrow..thanks
@@EastmansHuntingJournals yes bow hunting this fall. And your tips are extremely helpful!! Thank for be the Good !! Good luck on all your hunts too this year !! 👍👍
All the experts seem to be 50/50 on whether to chase broadhead or chase field tips when broadhead tuning. I swear I've had both work and not work at different times. The latest that worked for me, on advice of an expert, was chasing the broadhead for right and left, but chasing the field tip for up and down. Is it a matter of the bow? A matter of arrow spine that leans toward weak vs toward stiff? Drop away vs. whisker biscuit? I'm not sure anybody knows. The flight of the arrow truly is mystical 😆
Haha… I’m new to all this and I noticed the same thing. Expert A: “Chase the broadhead.” Expert B: “Chase the fieldpoint.” Me: Well that’s just great 🤦♂️
@@ZUnit06I’ve tested it a bunch of times with different heads and diffrent arrows, every time I have had it work with chasing the broad heads, the youtube channel inside out precision makes a great video explaining why, it makes perfect sense
@hunkersquad Thanks so much… I found the video. I had watched it before so I gave it a watch again. Made sense. Would I be able to achieve similar outcomes by doing walk back tuning? Like, if I walk back tune with my broad heads, should that also get my broadhead hitting center with my field points? Or do they achieve slightly different outcomes?
@@ZUnit06 slightly different outcomes, the walk back tuning will just get your broad-heads hitting closer to where they should be at before you start to broadhead tune👍

Great job! I still paper tune in my shop but when it comes to hunting as you say, close kills! lol. Great job.
simple simple simple...thanks dan for the great video! Can't wait to try it out with my new V3 31!
Awesome! Let us know your first impressions of the V3 once you get your hands on it and tuned up.
I have the same bow and rest. This video is really helpful. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Iv been shooting bows over 20 yrs and have had no problem. 6 different bows same combo 5 inch helical fletch feathers 3 blade hundred grain muzzy. Field points and broadheads hit exact same place no messing with the sights.
That's awesome!!
That’s was a great video mate . You really explained that all very clearly and well . Nice one 👍
Thanks for watching 👍
I learned so much, thank you 🙏
Great video Dan
I really like this informative bow setup tutorial. Set up and tuned my backup bow and it shoots great. Next step is the broad head tuning. Ran out of daylight.
Glad it helped!
I love the simplicity of this technique! Definitely going to try it! Great video!
Glad you like it!
Perfect video for real hunters
Now I can properly tune thanks for the explaining my guy
Absolutely the easiest I've seen it put...great video and info. Thx....new subscriber
Thanks for the sub!
This was extremely informative and well
Worth the watch!! Awesome content
Glad it was helpful! We'll do our best to keep this kind of content coming. Good luck this fall!
Not sure what was more impressive, the speed that you tuned that bow or that your peep didn't go flying. I've sent a couple peeps rocketing around my garage while paper tuning without having them tied in.
I always use fletcher peeps. Never had one launch.
LoL.
great video. Cleared up a lot of questions/concerns I had. Appreciated the demonstration!
Thanks for your feedback 👍 glad we could help
Thank you. Well done and helped me out.
Thank you so much this is extremely helpful
Simple is good! Nice tuning video!
Thanks for the feedback 👍
Great simple how to. Thanks.
Glad this was helpful!
Nice simplified explanation 👍
Glad this was helpful! Are you bow hunting this fall?
You make it simple and easy !
Great video, this tends to be over complicated 👍
Excellent tutorial - easy to understand 👍
Great video! Thanks for sharing this with us! 👍👍
Thanks for watching! Glad it’s helpful. Are you planning to bow hunt this fall?
@@EastmansHuntingJournals yes bow hunting this fall. And your tips are extremely helpful!! Thank for be the Good !! Good luck on all your hunts too this year !! 👍👍
Awesome video very informative
My broadheads are just low left. So micro tune my rest up right ?
Great video I’m getting my Triax ready for whitetail and trying to pick which broadhead to use
We haven't been disappointed by the Evolution Outdoors Hyde broadhead 👍
Great video
Learned a thing or two.
Thanks !!
I like the idea of skipping the paper tuning and going straight to broadheads! Keep it simple!
Yep, work smarter not harder in this case! Thanks for your comment. Where you are bow hunting this fall?
@@EastmansHuntingJournals Montana and Idaho!
Thank you, really help me.
You got my subscribed. Thank you sir!
Great info man, thanks
All the experts seem to be 50/50 on whether to chase broadhead or chase field tips when broadhead tuning. I swear I've had both work and not work at different times. The latest that worked for me, on advice of an expert, was chasing the broadhead for right and left, but chasing the field tip for up and down. Is it a matter of the bow? A matter of arrow spine that leans toward weak vs toward stiff? Drop away vs. whisker biscuit? I'm not sure anybody knows. The flight of the arrow truly is mystical 😆
Haha great comment and so true. I believe it's a matter of arrow spine though. If you don't have the correct spine arrow, this method won't work. -Dan
Haha… I’m new to all this and I noticed the same thing.
Expert A: “Chase the broadhead.”
Expert B: “Chase the fieldpoint.”
Me: Well that’s just great 🤦♂️
@@ZUnit06I’ve tested it a bunch of times with different heads and diffrent arrows, every time I have had it work with chasing the broad heads, the youtube channel inside out precision makes a great video explaining why, it makes perfect sense
That was really awesome. Thank you
that has cleared the dust away wish i seen it long ago from new zealand many thanks
