Ben seems to be a good ol’ boy who was nervous in a room of pros. I think you guys set him up for success, but also keep in mind not everyone is on your level. Picking apart his gear or his technique can really impact a guy’s confidence. We all know how important confidence is in archery. Feeling good equals shooting good. Great video guys keep up the great work!
good point. Also seemed a bit too fast paced for a beginner. They are still getting the basics nailed down and hearing people go off on tangents about this and that doesn't help any... it just becomes overwhelming to them... I know because I was in that position years ago. Tuning talk had me tearing my hair out. Bows are very dynamic and so are our bodies... I have learned that what works for some doesnt always work for everyone... there are general guidelines that you should always start with... but I've gone in circles before trying to force the bow to do something it did not want to do, just because the standard tuning guides said so.... let the bow tell you what it likes. Limb sequencing and form can do strange things sometimes.
The look on that dudes face when MFJJ said “micro adjust rests a kinda priceless” was in fact priceless. He was contemplating financial choices at that point.
You’re right on! That was good.
True because I actually did buy the micro adjust rest and they install it on video lol.
I really enjoy theses videos. So helpful. Thank you. The best part is that you bring in sub’s. I think this is so valuable and no other channel does this. Real life hunters, asking real questions, and making bow hunters more educated and skilled. Well done
Broadhead tuning can be maddening, last year dialed in a few hours. This year I spent a whole day, to the point I went to my pro shop and had them go over my bow to make sure every thing was right. The bow was fine, so I went home and took the the fletching off and reflected with 4 vanes, and finally was able to get dialed. Thanks for another great video!
First video I watched of you guys....have to say, the advice is spot on! I have been shooting for the last 26 years, target and hunting. Love all the high energy you guys provide.
Just got my setup broadhead tuned last week! Got a grim reaper micro hades flying true out past 110! Great video as always, Dan!
I have been a physical therapist for 22 yrs. Those are good exercises. However, i would also suggest Hughston exercises for the parascapular muscles. Especially Y’s for the lower traps as long as u do not compensate with the upper traps! And i would suggest not starting them out with weights because that encourages too much use of the upper trap and the arms need to be positioned more so in the plane of the muscle which is a bit more vertical as well. Also i also suggest push ups in multiple ways but especially with your hands positioned like u would hold your bow if u dont want to do it with your non-bow hand do one handed push ups with your left side or wall push ups if u are right handed. However i would suggest doing both arms and just change your hand position. As far as using bands i suggest making a loop with the band so one hand can push like your bow hand and the other doing the pulling. Also i would suggest u exercise not just specific reps and sets all the time but practice like u would holding a bow. So pull your band back and practice holding and working on those scapular muscles more and initiating the pullback with the scapular muscles first before u engage the whole arm. And also work the serratus anterior at 90 degrees and at 120 degrees. We all are weakest in the lower fibers of the serratus anterior muscles hence working them at 120 deg as well. Awesome! Video! great stuff I hope this just adds a little more to your suggestions for people to gain better bow strength to keep people from having to go the XBows!!! 😉
Great video as always - Broadhead tuning in two weeks, and I'll be ready for my upcoming elk hunt. Thanks for all the awesome content, and best of luck to everyone...
That was so much fun. Thank you Dan and MFJJ!
Love you guys. Thank you for sharing for us, in trying to wrap my mind around this
Absolutely love this video, been scratching my head for two years trying to align the two. Will be doing this as soon as the season is over because i just adjusted my sight to my broadheads. It just sucks shooting field points to practice during the season, because they are offline
I wish the bow shops around me had a MFJJ. All the ones I went to seem like they don’t want to help
Thanks for queuing us in on this ... this is one the table for the next couple of weeks
Always enjoy these videos yall! A lot of my current set up and future set ups im planning are based off mfjj’s and dans opinions backed by proof. Keep it goin guys! And good luck this season!
Ben is breathin!
Great video. This will definitely help, as I will start broadhead tuning in the near future. While I have hunted pigs in Hawaii, I am hoping to get my first deer this year. I am also excited to try out the Iron Will 125gr wides that I just ordered yesterday.
Good video. Consistent groups are key in any shot tuning methods! Can't wait for the bow giveaway!
Did some broadhead tuning myself last week. At first I just moved my sight… then I found the correct method and moved my rest. Shooting ok now. It’s amazing to me how much the broadhead will multiply the imperfections in arrow flight.
Congrats you are now a level 2 tuner
Awesome video guys! Learned a lot! Thanks
Facts!! I like it!!!
Great video once again!
That was an awesome video boys ! Love the channel!
Good vid for this time of year!
HAh!! I have been through almost this EXACT same process (minus the cameras and agitator Dan) with a couple-few archers in the past three or 4 weeks... I run a pre-change test using a home-made shooting machine first to check timing, lean and aimpoint without human interference, then I finish shooting it by hand. Guys are amazed when I show them phone video of their bow breaking nocks after basic tuning of the bow shooting them through the machine, and then replicating by hand. HAND POSITION on the bow is the single most common reason broadheads don't hit with field points. Prove me wrong.
Man love these video. i only wish i had a person like you or josh local to where i am, maybe i need to just drive out there!! keep up the good work.
great video guys!
I was killing myself trying to broadhead tune my rest at 50 and 60! Thank you so much with that comment on drag at the beginning! It to 40 I was good but shooting low at 50+
Brutal watch
Good video fellas! Always enjoy these collabs!
Sure wish I had a pro shop that did pro work the way MFJJ does here in my area.
I may just f around and fly out to Washington one day.
Take care y’all!
Preview thumbs up! Been awaiting this video since you mentioned on Saturday! Pleasure meeting you - love the content. Thanks! PS, those lesser than extreme helical, more traditional offset arrows, look a bit weird in your quiver 😉
100 percent agreed I never fixed my target panic I ended up just giving up on archery I used to love it
you guys are so offical , when it comes to archery. great info and very easy to follow along, thanks
I can never resist blowing the tips off either.. must be a JOSH thing! 🤣🤣🤣
I'm sorry for the responses Elk shape I hope to meet you one day brother, i admire your responses and resolve this
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1 John 1:7 - You guys keep it up. Great video as always.
JJ is a wizard.
Josh is so entertaining
I was in the middle of a bench press when you popped Mike Tyson up had to rack it i was laughing so hard😂
Accidentally bought the grim reaper hades instead of the micro hades. Should I switch these out or are the hades just fine? Great video man!
I love you guys content i watch all of your stuff. Not nocking but a year ago you guys released a video saying the opposite rest movements. Is this just a mixup or is the old video incorrect? I tried tuning off this video and it did not work i watched the year old video and it worked perfectly. Would appreciate some input. Please keep putting out great content!
I'd love to see this EXACT same test again BEFORE any micro rest movement by adding a third arrow....a bare shaft! Make sure all three shafts are nock tuned so each arrow leaves the bow bending the same. Don't trust the spine alignment labels. MFJJ always hates on a bare shaft BUT I will bet money that the micro adjustsments to the rest with a bare shaft will be very similar if not identical to those same micro adjustment made for the broadhead tipped arrow in these two tests. Nick from AAE in a previous video was 100% a believer in a bare shaft and so am I. It is VERY rare for me to not get a fixed head to fly to precision after a bare shaft tune. Plus one the best thing a bare shaft shows is FORM FLAWS. To shoot a bare shaft PERFECT at long distance requires PERFECT form AND shot execution. I have a P4 and two V3 29's that shoot PERFECT bare shafts out to 100 yards.
"Been talking to your wife, she ain't happy about it" 😂
@elkshape hey Dan, awesome stuff with subscribers. Quick question, what’s the reasoning behind the cock vane being 90deg from the spine of the arrow? Mahalos 🤙🏽
How come for left-right you move the rest towards the broadhead but for up-down it's the opposite?
What distance should you be shooting when making adjustments?
Thanks for putting the facts in correctly. So many people say the opposite with left /right rest adjustment and it messes with alot of people
They are not correct though.
@@kansasoutdoors5667 no, they explained it correct. Intuitively it sounds backward, but it is correct.
They said if your broadhead is hitting left you move your rest to the left, that is wrong. You dont move a left hitting broadhead further left.
@@kansasoutdoors5667 yes it will move the braodhead even farther left, as well as the field point. And they will then have the same point of impact and your bow will be in tune then you change your sight. Adjusting your rest to make your broadhead hit center will just take your bow out of tune and then your field points will be off. I know it sounds backwards but the video is 100% correct. One of the most common misunderstandings In tuning
Your broadhead reacts to adjustments far more than your field tips do, thats why you move it to your field tips not away, tons of confirmation on this if you research it.
From my fixed blade experience, this makes way more sense than what Dudley said in his video. Maybe that's why he disabled comments (but is still collecting ad revenue)
After you said spinal I was very much hoping you were referencing Iron Mike. I was not disappointed
Are heavy arrows (560 ) with good FOC predisposed to shoot closer to field points when things aren't perfect? I feel like I have gotten pretty lucky with my setup as it just seems to shoot where you point it.
Do you know keep tuning out to like 60 yards or are you just tuning at the distance you are at in the shop and good to go?
Sometimes he runs into the door, haha I get it though. Big Ben was to honest here!!
I paper tuned my bow with field points using the bowtech deadlock system. If I move the rest around for broad heads won’t that change the tune?
Weird did not have to do this when I started with a bare shaft and and a bunch of feild points.
Will this tuning work for single bevels
ABT!
Might’ve missed it, why the 90 degree turn when fletching the new arrows?
I have been chasing broadhead tune for a while with my v3. I have changed my rest, my sights, my arrows, inserts, and even broadheads. I started off trying to tune 300 up front on 300 spine 29.5in arrows. In the end I ended up with 100 broadhead with the aluminum inserts on a 340 spine (and a bunch of 300, 240, and 300 spine arrows that just wont work). I just could not get a high foc arrow to fly.
I really could use some tips. Got my field tips hitting dead on. Broadheads are hitting left about 4” or so. Move my rest. Broadheads hit center. Field tips right. Move the site. Everything move back left. Can’t get them both centered. Any tips would be super appreciated! Thank y’all for the content.
In the same boat with you. Mine are about 8 inches so I just tuned it so the broadheads fly true.
Big Ben is like me, go to the bow shop looking for a tip or have a question and leave spending $1000 😂
Hi,I'm a big fan of your chanel,I'm a hungarian bowhunter,in our country we don't have much oportunity to bowhunt ,usualy we have to do night time hog hunt with red light,I tried a lot of sights and peep sights for this type of hunting,my question is what do you think is the best setup for this type of hunting,I realy appreciate your videos ,thank you for your answer
King regards
Imre
I read move rest opposite of where broadhead is hitting. Need to check see if I heard correct . You said move rest the arrow is flying
Man i wished i lived closer to you, id bring my bow in for a full on tune. There's just no one in NZ that can do a priper job, im saving up for a bow press so a can time and tune my own bow, im sick of people stuffing mine up.
Lol I'm sorry but your honesty is the best fmjj
What should I do if I can’t move my rest up or down?
Bow out of spec! - When you put twists in the cables to adjust, do you also need to put twists in the string? That would be a good vid
HELP!!I shoot a bowtech with dead lock cams. Im left handed. If i shoot my broadheads and they impact right of my field tips, which way to i move the cams to correct it? Or should i just move my rest instead of my cams?
What is the best yardage to do this at?
What archery shop is this?
Conflicting info on rest movement direction. Could you describe why you would move a left broadhead rest to the left. My experience is it's the opposite.
Left impacting broadhead, when your arrow leaves the bow it starts to the right & as it flexes and the vanes stear your arrow back straight they will typically over correct to the left. So moving your test to the left in this instance would would help stop the amount of your arrow correcting to the left.
Most of the tuning charts are incorrect, and it can be darn confusing when reading them. I have 4 tuning charts I saved off archery talk one of which is actually correct, the other three you follow that you will never get a fixed blade broadhead to fly correctly.
@@caninphx Do you have a link where I can find this correct chart?
@@caninphx link be great
@darcyfloreani9722. You are correct if broadheads are hitting right move your rest to the left. Opposites always attract. John Dudley has a great video on his RUclips Chanel about broadhead tuning.
This was a perfect video taking a subscribers and going thru his bow. Seemed like the dude wasn't pulling and pushing thru his shot so much ? But whatever he was fairly within the bull so he's kinda perfected his errant ways like most of us hackers have done, myself included. He's young enough to get some instruction from a real good teacher like a Wunderle or Joel Turner.
Big as he is, he should be using 90 fucking pounds too,,,,lol 32 inch fucking draw ???? Danny you and me can only DREAM of that. I'd had him on 200 spine and some weight upfront 50 grains or so . But that's me. Not sure i've seen a 32 draw before. Just imagining the damage 32 inch draw can do to a oversized boar hog. Damn I hate being a midget.
I like the 5mm move, far better than the 4mm with flanged half outs. Hope this works out well for him and he does well this year.
Yakima was where Ljutic trap shotguns were made. Great guns ! Shot one for years before going to Perazzi
Great job to the Mohawk as normal. Thanks for the content Danny.
Pro tip: pull your broadhead and mark where it hit before you shoot the field point.
Sincerely,
Someone who just sheered a blade off his Grim Reapers inside his target lol
I like the part where he says, I know your bow is tuned since you got it tuned at my shop... then found out it was out of spec😂😂😂🤦♂️
What I get confused about is if you have your paper tuning perfect but then have to move your rest, isn’t that gonna make your paper tuning off?
Spine has so much smaller of an effect now days with the tuning abilities we have with the bow. I can tune and ultra stiff and an ultra weak arrow perfectly fine with any and every broadhead out there assuming everything is built well from the head to the arrow.
The tune settings will be different for each likely but weak or stiff will tune just fine.
He’s so confident and cocky but he really doesn’t know nearly as much as he thinks.
When is the MFJJ: Shaft Tuner shirt coming out?!?
I've always wondered, though, why no one shoots a field tip-arrow through paper again. After they've paper-tuned and then broadhead tuned their bow. To show if the tear is still a perfect bullet-hole. Just curious.
Hey Dan, what impact does offsetting the cock feather 90 degrees from spine alignment have on the arrow? Thanks man.
I was wondering the same.
Adjustments the same if shooting LH
Dang, the Jolly Blue Giant. 32 1/2"? Whatever he wants
I thought we are supposed to set rest at 13/16 n adjust top hat?
Thats funny he commented on the AT post not sure if it was the same one I saw that ended up turning into a jonh dudley roast...unfortunately there's alot of trolls on that site but it does offer some valuable information
What about broadhead tuning a deadlock cam system? Do we move the rest of just the cam to the broadhead left/right and then the rest up/down?
I'm curious? I have the same question
Wish shops around me could help tune my broad heads
just gone done making the finishing touches and its getting expensive with how many arrows ive split 😂😅
What was beginning and final yardage on the tuning?
Also, if Im tits at 40 or 50, should i even care about beyond that if im not shooting an animal past 40? Not shooting TAC or anything, would just swap back to FP settings post elk season.
Please anyone answer 🤘🏼
Hey I've been copying y'all with fletching my arrows, why does the spine go 90 degrees to the side of the "cock" vane/feather now? Thanks for another great video.
I'm wondering this too.
Also wondering, I thought you go directly on with the strongest part of the spine for compound and go 90 left for a trad bow.
Yes, we need answers! I was hoping someone else caught this as well
Im really interested. Why when flething Bens arrow you didnt put the cock vane on the spine align? Also, should he be shooting cock vane down?
Why are we moving the rest and not the sight? Wouldn’t that throw it out of tune?
On a Hoyt vtm31 my sight picture on bow sight is in the riser should I shim cams to the left ? Also arrow rest is around 1/2 inch from riser instead of the 13/16 will this hurt anything if it’s paper tune good.
Set at 13/16" then shim cams first to fix tears, fine tune with rest but 1/2" from riser you maybe hitting cables with your fetchings... i had my cams on my hoyt rx5 ultra shimmed all the way left and still had a partly obstructed sight ring from the riser on it...
Why do you turn the spine alignment mark 90*
Same question here, I’m about to build a near identical arrow and wondering why the 90 degree turn during fletching.
Same question here. I’ve had the factory fletched VAP TKOs, and the spine aligned mark is directly opposite the cock vane (in between the hen vanes). So, I’ve fletched my arrows exactly the same with the Arizona Easy Jig. I think due to the strong helical, it looks like the center point of the cock vane is directly opposite from the spine aligned marking.
Also wondering the same thing. I fletched mine right on the spine alignment 😢
Fmjj said in another vid to put the stiff side down .maybe they meant to say 180 degrees
@@stephenryder8143 i remember that video but it looked like they only turned it 90
My wife loved it when I said “there’s no budget for archery success “😂
"Spinal" 😂
I’m new to a compound. Been shooting a week. When sighting in my scope I couldn’t tell if my grip kept effecting my left or right. Sometimes I would hit what I’m aiming at then it would be off even if I really focused on my grip. I tested my micro hades and those things are loud
There are many many factors that affect left and right impacts. Face pressure, grip torque, nock tuning, timing, nock fit, and probably more than that
@@jackbuendgen389 😩
Dude, I'm sorry to be this guy, but how do we got about getting you to set up our bow for this. 😂 I love u arkansas and would love to meet you guys
If I’m trying to pull through the shot and not punch the trigger my back wall seems to hard so it causes torque. Lengthen draw length?
Make your release hotter, start there then try “yielding”
Hi, I have a question how do we shoot bullet holes when the arrow is flexing most of the flight. I never could understand this. And of you tune for broadheads and you move the rest to get them to fly close to the same wouldn't you thru out the bullet hole you originally made. I'm 62 years old and been shooting for 45 years and never could figure these things out. Thanks for the video and your knowledge. Happy and safe hunting. Ralph D.
I'm no pro but I found there is some wiggle room with your bullet hole when making these micro adjustments. After I micro adjusted my rest for broadheads I went back to a bareshaft thru paper and still got my bullet hole. If getting a bullet hole at 3 yards meant a perfect tune none of this would be needed. It's the "wiggle room" where the broadhead magnifies anything other than the arrow coming dead straight out of your bow. Assuming your spine is correct and the rest of your bow is good to go. My 2 cents for what it's worth.
What target is that or whitch do you recommend for broadheads
Morell high roller
Strings off from the factory.... those are gas 😆
After paper tuning through adjustments of rest and loop, why would it make sense to move these to take it out of tune? If the broadhead shoots differently, just adjust the sight and keep your bow in tune.
Paper tuning is just a base line. Broadheads are when you truly fine tune.
So you are saying to adjust your rest away from the field points? I've always been told to bring your broadheads to the field points. You are saying if broadhead is right move rest right?
Right.
