I never comment on things like this because I'm always the person on the "help line" getting the help. However, I just descaled my Keurig K- supreme plus and had no problems, so here goes. I found the descaling instructions (once you peeled back the label on the descaling solution bottle) totally confusing so I ignored them and went to the Keurig video above. After reading everyone's comments, here's my takeaway. Don't unplug the machine; just press the button to turn it off. Put a large cup under the spout. I used a bottle of solution with the same amount of water in the water tank. Pressing 8 and 12 simultaneously for three seconds did start the process for me. I thought the video went very fast (too fast) so I stopped it after each step in order to avoid making a mistake. I got to the rinse cycle no problem, filled the tank with cold water and kept pressing and emptying cups until the tank was empty. Voila! All of the buttons turned off and descaling was complete! I rinsed the tank again to be sure there was no residue and then made a cup of coffee. Believe me, no one was more shocked than I when the machine came on and delivered an awesome cup of coffee! i hope this helps anyone who is having problems to again enjoy a good cup of joe!
The problem a lot of people seem to be having is that they're not turning the power off before pressing the 8 & 12 button simultaneously. Pressing those buttons will turn the power on by itself and put it in descale mode. MY problem was that, after descaling flawlessly, the descale light went off, as expected, I assumed I could then make a cup of coffee. After putting a coffee pod in I hit 12oz, then the K button, per usual. It somehow filled my 12 oz cup with clear water - then kept going. The coffee part kicked in, eventually, but it filled the cup, the overflow reservoir, and no doubt would have filled the counter and the floor had I not manually turned it off. It was like a scene from the Sorcerer's Apprentice. The second time I tried it, with a second coffee pod, it worked fine. I'm somewhat leery of trying it again, but when I do, I certainly won't be walking away from the unit until it finishes brewing. Y'all owe me a few coffee pods Mr. Keurig, for my mental distress. It's only fair.
You are the only person who’s reply actually worked. Haha maybe you should work for the company. I’ve been having problems with my “new” machine for months. Thank you very much.
Two things I learned from descaling previous machines: •Stop everything after the innards fill with the solution and allow to "soak" for 15-30 min. (The Descale process may do this on its own) I don't know if you shd press the 8/12oz buttons again. •RINSE! RINSE! RINSE! I liked to run two full reservoirs of fresh tap water through to be sure theres no more residual cleaner stuff in there. You'll often see little flakes n chunks of blackish junk that was removed from the workings of the coffee maker. Very satisfying. I run a bunch of water through AFTER the last of that black flaky stuff appears. (Weird that this video, and others, goes from "pour in the descaling stuff" to "discard the rinse water")
I went through about 20 gallons of heated water before I realized that you can push the 2 buttons for ounces simultaneously with the power turned off!!!! That Keurig of mine is now squeaky clean!
My dad did almost the same thing except he followed the directions on the bottle of descaling solution which does not tell you to hold the 8 & 12 oz. buttons, he in turn couldn't figure out why the descaling light wouldn't turn off.
I was following the instructions on this video to the letter when I realized I had jumped straight from the Descale to the Fresh Water rinse phase without allowing my internal tank to soak for the 30 minutes required to descale! The 30 minute waiting step should be in the video! Thanks Keurig! I wasted a $12 bottle of solution thanks to this video.
@@flyurway and their customer service is horrible Costco replaces their units for me when they're out of warranty so I still have Keurig otherwise I'd bail! Also to anybody who has the K-Cup supreme the newer one push the pod down where the needle pierces it on the bottom if you leave it loose and close the top you'll get grounds Keurig doesn't know that warn you about that or put that in their simple easy instructions which I don't even bother with ...😡🤬
Thank you SO MUCH. I have done this twice over the past 6 months with my Keurig and it works perfectly. You have to be patient after it says add water as it takes almost 2-3 full containers of water before the lights go off.It took Just when you get mad and think its not working keep going. But do not unplug it first-just turn off. Then push the 8 &12 oz.
Yes, you were - I realized that too late and had to toss a 1 week old filter. this video omits key steps - you’re also supposed to wait 30 minutes after the first add water indicator appears to allow the solution to do its work - failure to do that means you barely descaled the tank at all and mostly wasted the solution.
Thank you SO MUCH for this video! Everything else I've found didn't work. It took almost 3 full containers before it said add water, then took 1 1/2 containers of fresh water before the descale notice finally shut off. So happy to finally have my Keurig back to normal!!
I have gone thru the descale process and the rinsing process and unplugged, plugged in, pressed and held 8 & 12, pressed power, light goes solid, but when I turn the brewer on the light starts blinking again, also I have only had this K-Supreme for one month, as far as I am concerned the descale light should never have started blinking in the first place.
Yes, you do need to remove the water filter before beginning the process. You also need to let the machine sit idle for 30 minutes after the first time the add water light comes on to let the solution do its work. Then do a rinse cycle with full reservoirs of water until the descale light goes off...usually 2-3 full reservoirs will do it.
Works perfectly plus if you only add the amount of water to the reservoir that your catch bucket holds it can't overflow. Whole process for me was less than 10 minutes.
Except the video didn’t tell you that you were supposed to wait 30 minutes after the first “add water” warning to allow the solution to sit inside the brewer and do its work. The process is actually supposed to take 40-45 minutes
@@shermto ok, but it's all just a gimmick anyway as their product nor anyone else's doesn't actually clean and remove the hard damaging scale, they only clean the cosmetic scale to fool you into thinking you need this feature. The brewer is set to a timer as to when the cleaning mode activates so that you spend money on their product. In my case all I wanted was to turn the damn thing off and get back to brewing normally.
If you have a K-supreme plus use this video to descale your keurig. When I used the instructions on the bottle the descale light would come on everytime I brewed a cup. This was very annoying. This time I followed the instructions in this video & it worked like a charm. The trick is pushing the 8 & 12 buttons @ the same time. Now I can brew a cup of coffee without the annoying descale light coming on. You pay too much for the keurig cleaning kit for the instructions to be incorrect.
I should have looked here first before descaling my machine. After I descaled it twice and the light still wouldn't go off, I started looking online and found an article that said to push the 8 and 10 oz buttons simultaneously...obviously that didn't work. I found another article that said push the 8 and 12 buttons so I did it again this morning and the light is finally off!
I literally just broke my keurig following this exact video. The “add water” light never came on after using the descaling solution. My keurig machine literally started smoking and now it will not turn on. Keurig please do something about this
I always have to look up a video like this when it’s time to descale. Why can’t there just be a descale button instead of having to remember 8 and 12 oz ?
On my Keurig I had to start by unplugging and plugging in but not turning on the power - I had to skip that part and just press the 8 oz and 12 oz which turned it on and started the process correctly. Keurig needs fix their instructions on the big bottle and the starter kit both leave out a major piece of information
I completed the steps of descaling on my Keurig K- supreme plus, but the machine went powered off, and I cannot get it powered up to proceed the rinsing steps. Any thoughts?
Mine went into descaling mode automatically. I tried everything to get my machine to light up the K to start the process, after about ten different tries, it finally illuminated. Suggest you descale according to start up process before it starts on its own....
Damn, I watched this and now I have to take my Keurig apart like a mad scientist to try to reset it because my add water light never turned on during descaling. I'm hoping the thermostat did its job properly and saved it from burning up completely.....
I burned up one because the add water never came on. Got a new one. Now again this morning the add water light did not come on. I just keep adding water and rinsing. The descale light is still on...I don't care. I am getting sick of Keurig at this point. I may just go back to a regular coffee pot.
Figured it out, unplug, plugin, press and hold 8 &12, press power, light goes solid and processes. You have to go through a couple of containers of water.
I put my descale/water mixture in reservoir. I held 8 & 12 button til it flashed the brew sign. I hit brew and it’s been 15 mins and NOTHING is happening. Just a solid light on descale…. It’s not even making noises like it’s working. I don’t understand what’s wrong with my machine..
I followed the instructions exactly as per your video. The flipping add water light never comes on !! I have burnt two machines this way. Burnt as in they smoked and do not work anymore. Thank you Keurig !!
Same here. Running the descale process and the machine does not stop and say add water. It just drains the tank, starts to smoke and burns up. Don't let the tank run completely dry or else you will have a fried Keurig.
The cleaning solution is basically citric acid which you can buy at most food stores or on-line and add to water yourself. It is way cheaper than the Keurig solution.
I don't understand how this is supposed to work. On my previous Keurig, I left the descale solution in the machine for a half hour. This method only provides about 5 minutes of contact time.
Don't Run it low on water or you will trip the thermal Relay !! Are stripping it all down and resetting it I got it start up again ! Bad Flaw in the design Keurig !
Why are people unplugging the machine! Nowhere does it say to unplug it. It says you must start with the machine POWERED OFF. DO NOT TURN THE MACHINE ON EITHER! Pressing the 8oz/12oz buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds will initiate the DESCALING process. Press the the "K" brewer button as soon as it starts flashing. Also, once the "add water" started to illuminate, I actually allowed the brewer to stand for 30 minutes (as recommended on the bottle of descaling solution) while the machine was still on. This allows an internal tank soak. After 30 minutes, the "add water" was still illuminated, I rinsed out the water reservoir thoroughly, filled it with water to the max line and repeatedly ran rinse brew cycles by pressing the illuminated "K" brew button. (The indicator would say "DESCALE", but turn to "DESCALING" when the rinsing/brewing began.). I repeated this 8-9 times until there was only about 1/2" water left in the reservoir, after which the machine automatically POWERED OFF and the DESCALING process was complete. Worked perfectly!

I had that problem. If you follow the instructions exactly like the video your light will go off. One bottle of Kreuig descale solution and one bottle of water. Unplug your machine and turn it off. Plug back in. Press and hold the 8 and 12 until the descale light stops flashing and remains on. Then run multiple cups until it flashes add water. Fill back up with water and press go. Keep filling up cups until all water is gone. The descale light will go off. Hope this helps.

This is our second K-Classic. We had our first one for many years, so when we had to replace it, we wanted nothing else but this exact ruclips.net/user/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf model. We use it for about three people everyday in the morning. The taste and quick brew is one of the reasons we like it so much. I would definitely recommend trying different brands of coffee to find the ones you like the most because there are brands that quite frankly taste horrible.
I have done this and my descalelight will not go off, in fact you were replaced and sent me another. On the second one the same problem the light keeps flashing drives me nuts! I have Call the Keurig then I’ve got nowhere.

WOEFULLY inadequate. NOTE: there is a major error in the video at about the :38 mark. The subtitle says you are you are now beginning the fresh water rinse cycle. YOU ARE NOT. You are beginning the acid wash cycle. The actual fresh water rinse begins with the correct titling at the :47 second mark. But if you read on, these are the correct instructions. You need: a new water filter capsule, a bottle of descaling solution (careful: strong acid), a large mug, access to the sink and water faucet (use a pitcher if you're not near the sink, to save steps). FIRST STEP - Empty water tank and remove the plastic column in your water reservoir by gently rocking from side to side. Reinstall tank in brewer. NOW pour in the solution and a bottle of (preferably filtered!) fresh water as detailed in the video. Turn brewer power off using power button (no need to unplug), wait a few seconds and press the 8oz and 12 oz buttons at the same time. After the ADD WATER indicator comes on WALK AWAY! Take the next 30 minutes to remove the old water filter from the housing at the bottom of that plastic column you pulled out of the water reservoir at the beginning. Soak the new one in (preferably filtered!) water until all air bubbles stop rising, even when gently squeezed. When 30 minutes have passed, then continue with the "fresh water rinse" section. Then press water tower with new filter installed back in brewer tank, fill with fresh water and brew.
This rescale process is super annoying. I’ve done it once before. Today I pushed power, pressed 8/12 for 3 sec plus....nothing. I unplugged, tried again....nothing.
I just followed the instructions on this video, and my add water light never turned on. It drained the reservoir dry and then the entire Keurig started to smoke! Like WTF?
Rick, sometimes the descaling process can trip the internal over-temp thermostat. I just fixed one someone gave me for free that had this issue. Here's the video I watched. ruclips.net/video/IdE_4NIQEro/видео.html
My k supreme sucked ALL the water out of the tank during the descaling process and was sucking air, I added more water as I felt it should not be sucking an empty tank, then all the lights turned off. I figured it was done with the descale and now onto the rinse. I cleaned the tank and filled with fresh water, and nothing. No lights were on or blinking. The sides of the unit was piping hot. I unplugged it, waited over night and it's still "dead". Did anyone else's k supreme suck all the water out during descale or did it leave 4-6oz in the tank like when it brews? This thing is less than 4months old and this was the first descale. I followed the directions in this video.
my first one died after 5 weeks, am now Descaling #2 after 4 weeks? they replaced the first one, if i have to call them again, i do not want another one of these contraptions, my old timey k2 lasted 5 years
@@trisathompson4177 I think they want us to buy the Supreme PLUS. Which I would've done in the first place if I'd known about it. Main feature is the temp control, for hotter coffee. In fact I could SWEAR the HSN demo stated I could select a hotter temp on this one. Honestly Keurig coffee is not good. I only drink it for medicinal purposes at this point.(!) Sadly there's very little true enjoyment from it. When time allows, I make a pour-over using a porcelain thing that props on top of a big mug, just like a pour over Chemex. There's also a SS one on Amazon.
Confused by steps 3 and 4: "3. Press/hold 8+12=DESCALE... 4. Press brew button to start fresh water rinse." Whaa--? What rinse? How did I get the descale step to BEGIN? Where did the fresh rinse water come from??? At best this video is incomplete. At worst... burn out your machine?
Watch your water level I've had issues with the Keurig Supreme not stopping on low water levels while descaling. Keurig replaced the machines twice due to units not turning on after this problem. My advice is keep a jug of water handy and don't leave the unit while descaling
I remembered reading about this and just descaled for the first time, I noticed it let the water tank run much lower than usual without ever asking to add water so I stayed ready to unplug it and unplugged it just before it would have sucked in air and killed itself.
Ok, one major problem with this video. After telling people how to run the cleaning solution through, you did not indicate in the video that you should wait 30 minutes before doing the fresh water rinse.
Keurig isn't worth a crap. During the process of descaling mine, the motor burnt up. Three and a half months (3-1/2 months) old. Don't waste your money on Keurig. The durability is low.
My recommendation when purchasing a Keurig product, is buy from a store that has a excellent return policy. When it is time to descale (every 45 days), you simply repackage, return, reason for return : Faulty, get a new one off the shelf. If you do this, you will avoid the hassle of spending $15.00 for descaler and have the machine not go into the descaling mode. I followed the video to a T and when machine enters "Descaling" mode, 3 flashing dots and back to descale message. All boxed and off to Costco I go.
OMG I FIGURED IT OUT!!! You dont have to hold any buttons down. you dont have to unplug. when your screen reads descale, empty your reservoir make sure you remove the charcoal pod. pour in your 1:1 ratio of the descaling solution and water. then hit the the button as if you are about to make a cup of coffee and the descaling begins. You will have to go through a lot of cycles of refilling your reservoir but I need my coffee so Im willing to pay the price. I hope this helps. Reading the solution bottle didnt help at all
You should’ve specified that I had to have the machine off cus now I’ve wasted the descale solution and the descale light is still blinking google said it detailed better I wasted my time rewatching this video for nothing
I followed these instructions, reservoir ran empty and still no "add water" light, ran it dry and now it's dead and apparently I have to rip the thing apart to reset it. So, step 1 of descaling this machine is DON'T DO IT!

Mine exited descale mode but will not turn back on.
I have gone thru the descale process and the rinsing process and unplugged, plugged in, pressed and held 8 & 12, pressed power, light goes solid, but when I turn the brewer on the light starts blinking again, also I have only had this K-Supreme for one month, as far as I am concerned the descale light should never have started blinking in the first place.
same here!
Once you held the 8&12 for 3 seconds and the light goes solid DO NOT press power button again, it’s alrdy on at this poing
Exactly! Same
Extremely annoying and light continues flashing.
Do I need to remove the water filter before descaling? I don’t understand why you don’t explain this part
Keurig please do something about this
I'm on my 3rd tank and the descaling notification will not go away!! Please help!! I have a K Supreme Plus
Mine did this, any solutions
How long does this take. I filled reservoir 20 times
What about the filter? Leave it in or take it out?
I followed the instructions exactly as per your video.
The flipping add water light never comes on !! I have burnt two machines this way.
Burnt as in they smoked and do not work anymore. Thank you Keurig !!
Same here. Running the descale process and the machine does not stop and say add water. It just drains the tank, starts to smoke and burns up. Don't let the tank run completely dry or else you will have a fried Keurig.
Did the K Supreme come with Descaling Solution?
No, that’s something you buy on your own. Walmart carries it.
Great. I have also found a product called Kup-Lift to stop that annoying splashing.
I used four jugs after descaling and can’t get the descale light to turn off, tried everything and no luck, not impressed
The cleaning solution is basically citric acid which you can buy at most food stores or on-line and add to water yourself. It is way cheaper than the Keurig solution.
Omg!! It works!!!😆🤘👏🙌💥Thanks.
Worked perfectly!
do you keep the filter in the while doing this?
@@julzbee5093 NO! In fact, the best video I have found is on the channel: Just a dad videos - How to descale Keurig K Supreme Plus coffee maker. The instructions he provides are straightforward and no fail.

My descale light just started blinking and holding 8 and 12 will not do anything.
You need to press them while the machine is off.
Do you have to push both cups sizes every time you run solution ?
Yes every three months to descale the machine, do not forget to turn off the power, press the big K button once the descale light is On
My model looks exactly like the one in the video, but i dont have a descale button??
The video says to press the 8 and 12 oz buttons at the same time while its off, that is the "descale button".
I'm not having any luck with a kcup supreme. I power on, the display says descale, and I hold 8 & 12 and nothing happens
Don't power on. Leave it off and hold the buttons.
My descale light never shuts off & now it won’t clean.

I cannot get the descale function to work, meaning when I press the 8 and 12 ounce buttons the process doesn't start. One of the buttons just stays lit like you're making a cup of coffee. Yes I am pressing them at the same time. I've googled this problem and all I ever get is directions on how to descale or telling me to descale again. Nothing about the descale process not operating.

It helps A LOT.
You should get your own Video channel going-- lengthen the time of on-screen instructions, a VO reading the instructions, and maybe add a couple steps they seem to have missed here. Your video has to be a certain length to "monetize" it... but you can hit that mark just by being thorough. And if there are questions, you probably won't even have to answer any, bc you told them in the first place!! (I'm being sarcastic--a little--but still wd encourage you to think about it bc your reply was the most helpful one. And I didn't even have to CALL HQ!!)
When I press the 8 and 12 buttons, nothing happens, the power does not turn on.
The descale button still flashes
Worked like a charm. Thanks for the video
There are so many choices of brands of coffee that we would grab what was on sale and test the different brands from there.

@@roguelizard2172 Yes, I used white vinegar. Don't worry
@@_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
The advantage of the descale solution, in part, is the lack of vinegar odor. Also, somewhere I read that if you use vinegar, you MUST do it every 30 days. For my usage I only need to do descale solution every 4 months or so.
The directions (somewhere...) Said "use 90 oz white vinegar"-- uhh... my water receptacle only holds 72 oz!!
OTOH... you might get away with re-using the white vinegar, if properly filtered first.
I just bought my supreme plus from Costco 2 days ago and it's already asking for me to descale ... is that normal???

did you get a solution for this? i'm having the same issue
This looks like the Keurig mini, not the K-Supreme?
Don’t press power
I just followed the instructions on this video, and my add water light never turned on. It drained the reservoir dry and then the entire Keurig started to smoke! Like WTF?
After using this process, I can't get the power to come back rendering the machine in constant OFF. Any udeas?
I followed the directions in this video.
my first one died after 5 weeks, am now Descaling #2 after 4 weeks? they replaced the first one, if i have to call them again, i do not want another one of these contraptions, my old timey k2 lasted 5 years
Mine did exactly the same thing. I called Keurig and they sent me a new one. I haven't descaled the new one yet.

I think they want us to buy the Supreme PLUS.
Confused by steps 3 and 4:
"3. Press/hold 8+12=DESCALE...
4. Press brew button to start fresh water rinse."
Whaa--?
What rinse?
How did I get the descale step to BEGIN?
Where did the fresh rinse water come from???
At best this video is incomplete. At worst... burn out your machine?
Watch your water level
I've had issues with the Keurig Supreme not stopping on low water levels while descaling.
God bless you Alan W! The directions do not indicate "properly" AND the video is useless. Thank you
I missed the: To activate Descale Mode, begin with the brewer plugged in and powered off!! Put it in Caps!
Please provide verbal directions. Its hard to read and see what buttons you are pushing at the same time.
