Hey “Dad” (I’m a dad too😊) I watch this descale video every time it’s time for descaling our Keurig. Short memory 😞. I thought I’d share some information about the whole descaling process for others and maybe you as well. When I descaled for the first two times, my machine wouldn’t turn back on … dead. I had to watch other videos to see if anyone else experienced this same problem. I learned that it happens enough for others that of course there’s videos on RUclips about what to do. Taking the stainless steel shroud off the machine and locating this small circular thermostat. Taking a small type of point (paper clip) and pushing it into the center and resetting the tripped thermostat. I believe I might have figured out a process to avoid that thermostat from kicking “open” which causes the machine to “quit” working/ turning back on . I believe that if the flushing process if the water is run through one right after the other the machines thermostat gets overwhelmed and heats up hence kicking the thermostat open. I now wait a couple 2-3 minutes in between pushing the “K” button to run the next 12 ounces of water until the machine says add water and then you’re done after the last of the water and descale light goes out. Hope this helps.

Exactly what I was looking for! The machine overheated! I wish you had linked a video. I have. No idea where the thermostat is or what it looks like. I guess I’ll have to find a video on resetting the thermostat. And taking off the cowling you mention.

You have to let Coffee maker stand for 30 minutes after cleaning solution is completed but before refilling the reservoir with fresh water after cleaning reservoir. The unit has to cool down, if don’t you run the possibility of over heat and shortening out the electrical system and killing your Keurig!! As directed in the instructions on the bottle, but not in the Video?

This is the best video on how to do this. I followed your instructions and after 2 cycles of water my descale shut off. I have to admit I was discouraged but your outlined this perfectly. I only used 1 bottle of the Keurig Descale Solution (purchased at Target $12) and now my machine is working great!

Your other video I repaired my coffee pot that turned off after the descaling cycle and this video I want to thank you for showing me the proper way to put the machine into descaling mode, which I did not know going in the first time. Just finished descaling my Keurig Supreme coffeemaker with the descaling solution and it was a cinch since you gave us step-by-step directions. Thank you, you made it simple!
So, I went through this process. I used the solution and did exactly what you did. It works!! The only thing I did different though, is that after the first round of Rinsing the solution out, the descaling light didn't go out when it was supposed to. However, instead of unplugging the coffee machine I did the rinsing, and just the rinsing process again from top to bottom. On the second round when the water reached the bottom the light turned off. To anyone reading this, if you would like if your descaling light doesn't turn off at first I recommend doing the rinsing process a second time from top to bottom before unplugging it for a few minutes because it may just need some more rinsing. Sounds like a waste of time, but it's worth a try. Thank you so much for the tutorial kind sir.
This video has been helpful, thank you! One thing that’s worth mentioning, is if you run too many descale cycles in a row, the machine will burn itself out. I did that and fortunately I was under warranty and got a new machine for free. But just something to be cautious of

I did the same thing as others mentioned - 3 months after suffering the same difficulty trying to get this done. I followed the directions on the bottle Exactly, twice (!!!) with no success. I then went back to this video that I remembered watching before. The DAD Video added two vital steps that are not mentioned on the bottle label. I followed Dad’s and SUCCESS the first time. Can’t believe that the label could be so wrong and thankful that I found my way back to Dad to get this done.

Thank you for the simple and clear instructions! I have descaled plenty of K-cup coffee machines and I found that the Keurig K-Supreme is more prone to overheating. And when this happens, the machine will not power on. It will then need to be reset by taking the machine apart and pressing the reset button inside the machine. It happened to me the 2nd time I descaled my Keurig. So now, instead of just about 30 minutes of the descaling process, it takes me a little more than an hour as I wait a few more minutes to cool down the heating element before running the machine through the decaling process. Thanks again!
Thank you for the clear and concise video! You helped fix my issue with the descale light not going off after descaling it. The key was powering it off and then pressing 8oz & 10oz at the same time, and then going through the process because the descale process was initiated. Also, Keurig Descale solution currently sells for $20 at Loblaws in Ontario, Canada. Thanks again!
THE BEST RUclips video showing how to descale the K Supreme. I followed the directions for 2 others before this and of course they don't explain how to enter descale mode or that you don't have to fill the entire reservoir. Very happy 30 min later!

It didn’t say how to put the machine in the descaling mode so I just ran it through and the light was still flashing when I finished. I found this video and followed your instructions on how to put the machine into descaling mode and it worked perfectly and the light went off. Thanks again!
Thanks to this video, I FINALLY got my Descale light to stop blinking. Key to descaling ones Keurig is to know what model you have. I didn't know my K-Supreme had a descale mod. I had searched how to descale, and when I saw my model of Keurig (your video), I watched and took notes. VERY IMPORTANT is to have Keurig Power OFF. Thank you again. Back because after years of having a keurig you'd think I'd know how to do this but nope this video helps me every 3 months when the blinky light comes on and i follow and pause at every step 😅 thanks so much for this video such a life saver ❤
Tip: Don't rush this process. Give your Keurig's heat element a chance to cool down a little in between flush cycles. If you go too fast you can trip the thermal cutout inside and you'll need to take your machine apart to reset the thermal cutout. The cover is not easy to get off and even more challenging to get it back together and fit right after you reset the thermal cutout. I recommend waiting 15 seconds in between flush cycles.
@@LashChanceBeautyIt did not fry, the thermal cutout is designed so the machine would not burn up and become a fire hazard. You need to reset the thermal cutout. To do so you will need to take the case off. You will see a small plastic disk about the size of a quarter inside the machine. You will need a slender needle to press in the center of the disc. Once you reset the thermal cutout you can reassemble your Keurig and it should work fine.
I learned this the hard way tonight on Christmas Eve 2024 as I went home for the holiday. I wanted to descale my dad and stepmom's Keurig since they never have done so before. I didn't know this particular model was prone to overheating. After watching this video and another on what it took to reset the thermal switch, my dad helped me take the outer casing apart (much to his dismay, haha). Needless to say, we made a core memory tonight that we'll both never forget!
I had my keurig for a year and my descale came on Monday. I use jugs of water cause my tap water isn't all that great. I descaled my Keurig K Supreme and it went dead, so I searched for a fix and found your video on how to open up the K-Supreme and reset the thermostat with a paperclip. It worked, thank you very much! I like the K-Supreme model because of the 5 needles in the head and it makes the coffee hotter than the older models (I had one) Didn’t scuff up or break the tabs at all.. Thanks for the info
Great video! Love the step by step, clear, concise instructions. I knew something was wrong while following the directions for descaling on the bottle and nowhere was there any mention of a Descaling mode, on the bottle or the very brief instruction pamphlet that came with my machine. @@JustADad I haven't tried a whole lot of different ones yet, but so far Tully's Hawaiian Blend & Panera's Light Blend are the ones I'll buy again. I prefer a mellow, smooth light or medium roast. Do you have any suggestions? ☕
@@kitteemama Yep that is what I like. I like dunkin Donuts medium roast. right in the middle without any extra flavors just coffee. Folgers is also good.

Thanks for a great description! I descaled twice and couldn’t get the descale light to turn off. Even had it unplugged overnight. Your directions made it clear to not turn the power on prior to starting the descale procedure. Followed your instructions and it worked like a charm! No more descale light facing me every morning!!!

I like Folgers Black Silk. I didn't wait for 30 minutes after the solution, I immediately ran 2 containers of water and the lite went out. Will missing out the wait, cause problems ?
Hmm, I've been using CLR to eliminate mineral deposits in my 15 year old Keurig. I pour in about a pint into the reservoir and fill the remainder with water. I cycle the same mixture through the machine several times (capturing the mixture into a cup) and then after that I refill with water and cycle through until all the CLR remnants are gone. I do this about every 4 months- 6 months. My coffee maker's still going strong after all these years!

I made the mistake of following the instructions on the bottle and I didn’t know this model has a “descale mode” so I essentially wasted the solution but lesson learned I suppose, now I know 😊 Thank you.
I just bought the bottle and did the same, followed the instructions on the bottle and it does not mention putting the machine into the descale mode. So need to redo? Also anyone know what descaling mode on the machine actually does different?

Hi. Thanks for the video. I've just descaled my Keurig K-Supreme. And it was very easy. The hard part is finding this solution in Walmart due to the low price. All other stores and Keurig website sells for $12.99, which is ridiculous. Thanks again!
This solution definitely has a smell. Has a slight ammonia smell though there is no ammonia in it. Also my keurig k-supreme splatters everywhere like all the other models and have to clean the side every time I brew a cup.

Hi, "Dad" (liked and subscribed several months ago). Thanks for the tip regarding the descale coming on after 250 brews, something Keurig doesn't share with customers. (I'm at approximately 165 brews.) I'm wondering if the number of brews depends upon whether one has hard or soft water. I have very soft water (NYC) and wonder if that will delay the light's appearance requiring less frequent descalings? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the sub! I am not sure about that, I bet it just looks at the number of brew no matter what water you have, but I could be wrong. I hope you way is the way they do it, but that sounds like they would need more electronics in the machine.
I figured the descale light should be prompted by the number of mineral deposits that have accumulated, but that would make too much sense (smirk) when Keurig can just continue to charge for unnecessary descaling solution wherever possible (I use vinegar). Thanks for responding just the same.

Hey there, I’ve never commented on a RUclips video but I’ve used this video TWICE now to descale my Keurig k supreme machine and this is the second time the machine has completely BROKEN after doing your process. The first time I had to go out and buy a whole new machine because I couldn’t figure out how to fix it internally (following another one of your videos of taking the machine completely apart). This time I contacted Keurig and will hopefully get a new machine after going through their super long process. Anyway, I went and looked at the instructions on the inside label and they are completely different than what you are doing here. I always followed your instructions because I like the how to videos but maybe I should have gone with that was in print because this process has now completely FIRED two machines. Hope this doesn’t happen to others! Good luck.
I would call Keurig customer care at 866-901-2739. This could be a known issue Keurig has with this model of Keurig. I have had other viewers with the same thing. When they called Keurig some of them said Keurig knew about this issue and sent them a new Keurig. They have great customer service. I think you will need proof of Purchase. So sorry this happened. I hate it when someone follows my directions and then it breaks their machine. I am so sorry.
Very stupid design. Can't make a cup of coffee unless you descale. Doesn't give you the option to bypass it. Pretty inconvenient in the morning when you have to leave for work and can't make a cup of coffee.

This is the best video on how to do this. I followed your instructions and after 2 cycles of water my descale shut off. I have to admit I was discouraged but your outlined this perfectly. Just finished descaling my Keurig Supreme coffeemaker with the descaling solution and it was a cinch since you gave us step-by-step directions. Thank you, you made it simple!

So, I went through this process. I used the solution and did exactly what you did. It works!! The only thing I did different though, is that after the first round of Rinsing the solution out, the descaling light didn't go out when it was supposed to. However, instead of unplugging the coffee machine I did the rinsing, and just the rinsing process again from top to bottom. On the second round when the water reached the bottom the light turned off. To anyone reading this, if you would like if your descaling light doesn't turn off at first I recommend doing the rinsing process a second time from top to bottom before unplugging it for a few minutes because it may just need some more rinsing. Sounds like a waste of time, but it's worth a try. Thank you so much for the tutorial kind sir.

I did the same thing as others mentioned - 3 months after suffering the same difficulty trying to get this done. I followed the directions on the bottle Exactly, twice (!!!) with no success. I then went back to this video that I remembered watching before. The DAD Video added two vital steps that are not mentioned on the bottle label. I followed Dad’s and SUCCESS the first time. Can’t believe that the label could be so wrong and thankful that I found my way back to Dad to get this done.

Thank you for the simple and clear instructions! I have descaled plenty of K-cup coffee machines and I found that the Keurig K-Supreme is more prone to overheating. And when this happens, the machine will not power on. It will then need to be reset by taking the machine apart and pressing the reset button inside the machine. It happened to me the 2nd time I descaled my Keurig. So now, instead of just about 30 minutes of the descaling process, it takes me a little more than an hour as I wait a few more minutes to cool down the heating element before running the machine through the decaling process. Thanks again!

Thank you for the clear and concise video! You helped fix my issue with the descale light not going off after descaling it. The key was powering it off and then pressing 8oz & 10oz at the same time, and then going through the process because the descale process was initiated. Also, Keurig Descale solution currently sells for $20 at Loblaws in Ontario, Canada. Thanks again!
THE BEST RUclips video showing how to descale the K Supreme. I followed the directions for 2 others before this and of course they don't explain how to enter descale mode or that you don't have to fill the entire reservoir. Very happy 30 min later!

It didn’t say how to put the machine in the descaling mode so I just ran it through and the light was still flashing when I finished. Thanks to this video, I FINALLY got my Descale light to stop blinking. Key to descaling ones Keurig is to know what model you have. I didn't know my K-Supreme had a descale mod. Back because after years of having a keurig you'd think I'd know how to do this but nope this video helps me every 3 months when the blinky light comes on and i follow and pause at every step 😅 thanks so much for this video such a life saver ❤
Tip: Don't rush this process. Give your Keurig's heat element a chance to cool down a little in between flush cycles. If you go too fast you can trip the thermal cutout inside and you'll need to take your machine apart to reset the thermal cutout. The cover is not easy to get off and even more challenging to get it back together and fit right after you reset the thermal cutout. I recommend waiting 15 seconds in between flush cycles.
I followed these steps and now my Keurig won’t turn on. Is that what happened it fried ? 😢
@@LashChanceBeautyIt did not fry, the thermal cutout is designed so the machine would not burn up and become a fire hazard. You need to reset the thermal cutout. To do so you will need to take the case off. You will see a small plastic disk about the size of a quarter inside the machine. You will need a slender needle to press in the center of the disc. Once you reset the thermal cutout you can reassemble your Keurig and it should work fine.

I learned this the hard way tonight on Christmas Eve 2024 as I went home for the holiday. I wanted to descale my dad and stepmom's Keurig since they never have done so before. I didn't know this particular model was prone to overheating.
After watching this video and another on what it took to reset the thermal switch, my dad helped me take the outer casing apart (much to his dismay, haha). Needless to say, we made a core memory tonight that we'll both never forget!

I had my keurig for a year and my descale came on Monday. I use jugs of water cause my tap water isn't all that great. I had no clue what to do and went on RUclips channe watch your videos l order the kit for descale off Amazon. I done exactly what you done and wow!! It was easy. I descaled my Keurig K Supreme and it went dead, so I searched for a fix and found your video on how to open up the K-Supreme and reset the thermostat with a paperclip. It worked, thank you very much!
I like the K-Supreme model because of the 5 needles in the head and it makes the coffee hotter than the older models (I had one) Didn’t scuff up or break the tabs at all..

Thanks for a great description! I descaled twice and couldn’t get the descale light to turn off. Even had it unplugged overnight. Your directions made it clear to not turn the power on prior to starting the descale procedure. Followed your instructions and it worked like a charm! No more descale light facing me every morning!!!

I have the same descale light I was getting sick of it. I ran vinegar a few times. Let it sit 30 min and ran a few cups. Seemed to work.

I didn't wait for 30 minutes after the solution, I immediately ran 2 containers of water and the lite went out.
Will missing out the wait, cause problems ?
Hmm, I've been using CLR to eliminate mineral deposits in my 15 year old Keurig. I pour in about a pint into the reservoir and fill the remainder with water. I cycle the same mixture through the machine several times (capturing the mixture into a cup) and then after that I refill with water and cycle through until all the CLR remnants are gone. I do this about every 4 months- 6 months. My coffee maker's still going strong after all these years!

Hi. Thanks for the video. I've just descaled my Keurig K-Supreme. And it was very easy. The hard part is finding this solution in Walmart due to the low price. All other stores and Keurig website sells for $12.99, which is ridiculous. Thanks again!

This solution definitely has a smell. Has a slight ammonia smell though there is no ammonia in it. Also my keurig k-supreme splatters everywhere like all the other models and have to clean the side every time I brew a cup.

Hi, "Dad" (liked and subscribed several months ago). Thanks for the tip regarding the descale coming on after 250 brews, something Keurig doesn't share with customers. (I'm at approximately 165 brews.) I'm wondering if the number of brews depends upon whether one has hard or soft water. I have very soft water (NYC) and wonder if that will delay the light's appearance requiring less frequent descalings? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the sub! I am not sure about that, I bet it just looks at the number of brew no matter what water you have, but I could be wrong. I hope you way is the way they do it, but that sounds like they would need more electronics in the machine.
I figured the descale light should be prompted by the number of mineral deposits that have accumulated, but that would make too much sense (smirk) when Keurig can just continue to charge for unnecessary descaling solution wherever possible (I use vinegar). Thanks for responding just the same.

Hey there, I’ve never commented on a RUclips video but I’ve used this video TWICE now to descale my Keurig k supreme machine and this is the second time the machine has completely BROKEN after doing your process. The first time I had to go out and buy a whole new machine because I couldn’t figure out how to fix it internally (following another one of your videos of taking the machine completely apart). This time I contacted Keurig and will hopefully get a new machine after going through their super long process. Anyway, I went and looked at the instructions on the inside label and they are completely different than what you are doing here. I always followed your instructions because I like the how to videos but maybe I should have gone with that was in print because this process has now completely FIRED two machines. Hope this doesn’t happen to others! Good luck.
I did this and my Keurig shut off, and will not turn on again even after leaving unplugged for a while.
I would call Keurig customer care at 866-901-2739. This could be a known issue Keurig has with this model of Keurig. I have had other viewers with the same thing. When they called Keurig some of them said Keurig knew about this issue and sent them a new Keurig. They have great customer service. I think you will need proof of Purchase. So sorry this happened. I hate it when someone follows my directions and then it breaks their machine. I am so sorry.
Same thing happened to me twice. They have sent me 2 new machines. Wish me luck on this descale.

Very stupid design. Can't make a cup of coffee unless you descale. Doesn't give you the option to bypass it. Pretty inconvenient in the morning when you have to leave for work and can't make a cup of coffee.

Watched for the second time because my Keurig needed descaling again! I am glad I saved this video. The prices of the solution went up.
