This is my 2nd Keurig coffee maker of this model. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf The first worked fine for more than 2 years, and I could still get a decent cup of coffee out of it if I fiddled with it when I decided to replace it. The problem I had with my first unit was this: When attempting to brew a cup of coffee, the unit would either keep brewing until the coffee was undrinkable or it would not run long enough and the coffee produced was way too strong. I cleaned the unit as best I could but it did not help. So in the end it was just too much trouble to get a good cup of coffee out of it, so I decided to replace it with a new one, which has been working great since I unpacked it.
You should be working for Keurig creating their how-to videos! I searched the Keurig site, and viewed other RUclips how-to's and I could find nothing that was complete and walked me thru the process to the end. I would do what they said and the "descale" message still appeared. Yours is the absolute best. Yours is the most clearest, most accurate, most to-the-point. Following your very clear demonstration I was able to finally PROPERLY descale my Keurig k-supreme plus coffee maker, all the way to the end, and the "descale" message actually turned off. You said it would happen, and it did. Thank you!
Agreed! No superfluous showboating on how expert she is and how much she knows about all the descaling supplies, etc. She simply and expeditiously demonstrates her expertise in her video and cuts through all the unnecessary gum flapping and gives us the info we need to clean/descale our Keurig coffee makers. So refreshing! She's great! 👍
0:46 Just an FYI for anyone watching this in 2022. The rubber “surrounding area” thing pops right out. It’s not secured by anything other than tension and friction. Pull gently and it slides right off. You can rinse it off completely. I found it easier than working it with a toothpick or paper clip.
The key to this process is to this: You start with the coffee maker plugged in but turned off. In other words, nothing is lit up on the top of the lid you close. Easiest way is to unplug the maker, weight a few seconds then plug it back in. DO NOT TURN ON THE POWER USING THE POWER BUTTON. Now press and hold the two recommended buttons and off you go into descaling mode.
OK so let me get this straight!! We hit the 8 and 12 to descale. But while it is off!!!! OMG IT WORKED!!! next dumb question. Do we descale with the mineral thing in there?
@@starnettacone7145 Yes, as I showed at 2:21, make sure the machine is off. Remove the water filter if you plan to keep using it for a little longer, otherwise, it doesn't matter if you leave it in if you're planning to change it anyway. Hope that helps
Descale: TURN OFF the machine (power button only - DO NOT unplug it) > press 8+12oz together > press the 'K' button. - Remove the filter first (apologies this was not included in the instructions I found on Keurig's website, but it is noted on the solution bottle which I didn't have at the time I made this video). - Make sure you have enough water in the tank, even if the 'add water light doesn't turn on (there are a lot of problems with this machine!) - If the light is still on, clean the needles, coffee deposits are possibly stuck inside somewhere.
Thank you so much! I’ve watched many videos on how to descale my Keurig, and I still couldn’t get it I couldn’t get that light to turn off. And finally after watching your video I got it right thank you so much Guri ❤
Thank you for your video. The paper clip worked like a charm. In addition, I wasn’t running the descale mode correctly……your video helped me figure that one out , too. Great video and thanks !! (I struggled with this all morning and your video set me up for success.) 👍👍
Oh my goodness. Thank you! Despite descaling (obviously the wrong way) I finally got that descale reminder to go off! I need to save this video because I will forget. You’re amazing! Thank you!
Yes light will eventually go out , but takes so many cycles to do it, totally ridiculous. The video I think is spot on, but like I say keurig needs to change that up to where you can easily reset that descale light and not have to go through all those cycles.
Thank you. I would recommend to clean the needles too after the the first cycle, that should help and hopefully not require multiple cycles. The light staying on seems to show that the machine can sensor coffee deposits stuck somewhere, they just need to be 'flushed out'
Easier said then done. I followed the instructions to a T and now my machine will not turn on. Come to find out that the internal high limit switched trip. Be careful with how many rinses are done and at what temperature. This particular model has a glitch with descaling.
Yes this video is amazing and perfect the most important thing is the Machine is off when you push the 8oz and 12oz at the same time and then push the blinking K to brew If the machine is not off when you push these two buttons it does not work!!!
I read many blogs about how to clean my Keurig and not one mentioned using descaling mode. I ran five (5) bottles of descaler through without getting rid of the DESCALE light. Ran descaling mode with just clean water and light went off. Thank you!! Thank you!!
You have to turn power off and press simultaneously 8&12 then the k button then after each clean press k button until it says add water then it should be descaled
Thanks for the great vid. My descale light won't turn off either. Not a horrible issue, but annoying after days on end. Sounds like Keurig has an issue to fix.
it's possible there are some tiny coffee grounds stuck in there i would recommend trying to clean the needles or run a cleaning brew a couple of times to flush it out. hope it helps.
I followed you're instructions to the "T" Worked exactly as you stated. I found no need to unplug the Keurig nor wait. Thank you for providing this instructional video. Very much appreciated.

Yes. My apologies, it was a brand new machine and I didn't have the Solution instructions, just Keurig's vague instruction manual that came in the box with the machine. You should remove the filter before adding the descale solution. Thank you for pointing it out.
I cannot get the descale light to turn off. I have done the process three times. Now when I do the descale the machine shuts off on its own right after one cup of water is processed

Yes, remove the filter first - apologies this was not included in the instructions I found on Keurig's website, but it is noted on the solution bottle which I didn't have at the time I made this video.
Great video. I recently descaled my unit and at the point where it should have said to add water, it continued brewing, overheated, and shut down, never to turn on again. Keurig sent a replacement. Any other tips to make sure this doesn't happen next time?
@@wyatt2439 there is no documented reset on a Supreme Plus, unfortunately. Now that I have a replacement, I may try taking the old one apart and seeing if there's a thermal switch to flip. Hope this doesn't happen to the replacement unit though.
This is exactly what happened to mine when I followed the instructions in this video. I'm pretty pissed off following her instructions fried my Keurig.
The add water light did not turn on when the water level was low on my unit also. Fortunately I had a container of water and quickly added to it, this prevented the unit from overheating and causing the heating element to burn out.
If after you have already done the steps, and the descale light still won’t go off, Turn machine off, unplug from power outlet, count 10 seconds, then plug machine back into power outlet. Should have cleared the descale light.
Thank you for sharing, unfortunately i think alot of people are not turning off the machine to descale or the machine detects coffee grounds, they need to clean the needles too.
Well, why don’t they put these instructions-as you have it here-on the back of the descale solution? It only instructs to brew on the “largest capacity available.” That’s just brewing it-not taking us through the descale process. So thankful for YOU!
You're welcome. Unfortunately, they have one solution product for multiple machines that descale in different ways with different amounts of the solution. I know it's confusing. however, I'm glad I could help!
Great question! This wasn't covered anywhere in the instructions or on their website but according to Keurig's blog site, remove the filter. Hope it helps! blog.keurig.ca/blog/how-to-clean-a-keurig-coffee-maker/
Filter has to be taken out during the descal process. Return it back in only after you completely done with a Rinsing cycle. Then you should be ready to use machine again.
I’ve followed your instructions over and over but pushing the 8 and 12 oz never triggers the K center button to light up hence I’m not able to complete the steps. So frustrating. Any other ideas?
Oh... I’ve heard about the descale light not turning off, but not about it refusing to turn on. I hope you find a solution. Feel free to share with everyone if you do! 😊
Yes remove the filter 😊. My apologies I followed keurig's not-so-well-written instructions per the coffee machine at the time, rather than reading the instructions on the bottle! 😁
I did the decalying thing. But my machine is not working as suppose to be . I had this problem before decalying. No coffee comes from down. Although when I run it with no k pod inside the k cup its runs smoothly with hot water coming out. Any clue. Thanks guys
I was able to find this on the Keurig website, perhaps you can try and see if doing any of these help: (Note: I've shown how to clean the exit needles in this video) • Power the coffee maker off. Press and hold the brew button and 12oz button for 5 seconds until water starts dispensing. Then release and let the water purge. Discard the contents into the sink. Press the power button to restart. • The exit needle may be clogged. Refer to the Exit Needle care instructions. • Clean the K-Cup® Pod Holder, see K-Cup® Pod Holder care instructions.
It's possible there are some tiny coffee grounds stuck in there I would recommend trying to clean the needles or run a cleaning brew a couple of times to flush it out. hope it helps.
Oh my sanity! Thank you for this video! We went through 2 very expensive bottles of descaler thinking it must have an internal clog. I'm lucky I didn't burn it out. The important thing being descaling mode not just brewing! Yup lesson learned! Again thanks so so much!
@@mandiez75 Sorry to hear that. But the good news is that since replacement ours has been perfect. It gripes that it needs descaling all of the time (it doesn’t), but now that we know the descale button activates Keurig’s suicide mode we just avoid it and use good water.
Hi. Can you press and hold the 8oz and 10oz button together for at least 5 seconds. If that doesn’t work, try to clean the exit needles. Also shown in my video. Please let us know if any of these work, a few people are having this issue but I can’t fix it since it’s not happening on mine. Thanks! If the light is still on something is likely causing a blockage. There maybe some coffee grinds build up..
yes, or you can just replace it with a new one after descaling. it depends on how long it has been in there. Ideally you should replace it every 2-3 months.
I'm so disappointed the Keurig descale solution doesn't include these instructions 😕 we've cleaned ours several times and still can't get the deacale light to go off, these steps seem like the actual Keurig cleaning function and I wish I knew earlier
You're welcome. If you want to keep using the filter (for example, if it's already been replaced recently) then remove it before descaling. If you've had it for a couple of months you can take it out and replace it with a new one after descaling if you don't want to take it out before starting the descale process. Hope that helps.
Why did you leave the filter in, I thought the filter in the tank is to be removed while descaling and then replaced with a new filter when the process is complete!
Yes, remove the filter first - apologies this was not included in the instructions I found on Keurig's website, but it is noted on the solution bottle which I didn't have at the time I made this video.
Do you have to let the add water light come on Or can you add more water before during the descaling process. My Kureg machine blew out during the descaling process , when I let the add water light go on. Ty
Unfortunately, this fried my Keurig as it never said add water and tried to heat nothing and got too hot without the water and fried my internal components. $160 coffee maker down the toilet.

Hi Meem. I have the exact same Keurig model shown in your video and I followed the instructions exactly as shown but I've done the descaling twice and every time I've done it, the machine shut off towards the end of the process and it would not turn back on unless I reset a switch inside the machine, which requires taking it apart at a level that I'm sure most people are not comfortable doing. I'm a maintenance tech myself but even so, this process is not easy and I was curious if you have any idea why this is happening. I almost took it back where I purchased it from but instead I went through the trouble of resetting it these two times.

I did the decalying thing. But my machine is not working as suppose to be . I had this problem before decalying. No coffee comes from down. Although when I run it with no k pod inside the k cup its runs smoothly with hot water coming out. Any clue. Thanks guys
I was able to find this on the Keurig website, perhaps you can try and see if doing any of these help: (Note: I've shown how to clean the exit needles in this video)
• Power the coffee maker off. Press and hold the brew
button and 12oz button for 5 seconds until water starts
dispensing. Then release and let the water purge. Discard
the contents into the sink. Press the power button to
restart.
• The exit needle may be clogged. Refer to the Exit Needle
care instructions.
• Clean the K-Cup® Pod Holder, see K-Cup® Pod Holder care
instructions.
I cleaned my Keurig 2 times and my coffee maker still keeps flashing descale. What should I do?
It's possible there are some tiny coffee grounds stuck in there I would recommend trying to clean the needles or run a cleaning brew a couple of times to flush it out. hope it helps.
Oh my sanity! Thank you for this video! We went through 2 very expensive bottles of descaler thinking it must have an internal clog. I'm lucky I didn't burn it out. The important thing being descaling mode not just brewing! Yup lesson learned! Again thanks so so much!
You're welcome! I'm glad it was helpful!
We don’t have to worry about rescaling because this coffee maker only lasts about a month. Then they replace it because it won’t power on.
Oh no!! Well, at least you get a new machine every time LOL! 😄 Thanks for sharing!
Same thing just happened to ours during descale. Was 4 months old. New one coming from Keurig. What a shame!
Yes waiting on my replacement now very frustrating
@@mandiez75 Sorry to hear that. But the good news is that since replacement ours has been perfect. It gripes that it needs descaling all of the time (it doesn’t), but now that we know the descale button activates Keurig’s suicide mode we just avoid it and use good water.
@@sheltermutts4185 it eventually won't let you do anything but descale before it will brew again.
I did everything 2 times and the descale / descaling light will not go off! Help!
@@MeemReviews thank you that did the job. So very grateful
Awesome! Thanks for letting me and everyone know!
@@MeemReviews Thank You! K manual didn't explain that.
same here. cant reset
Thank you! This was very helpful!
You're so welcome!
Should I remove the water filter when descaling?
yes, or you can just replace it with a new one after descaling. it depends on how long it has been in there.
This descaling problem is why I won’t buy the Keurig supreme!
After descaling my keuring but the descale is still on. How do I turn off descale light
it's possible there are still some coffee grounds stuck in the machine. try cleaning the needles and see if that helps.
Thanks for the explanation! Question do I need to remove the filter before?
You're welcome. If you want to keep using the filter (for example, if it's already been replaced recently) then remove it before descaling. If you've had it for a couple of months you can take it out and replace it with a new one after descaling if you don't want to take it out before starting the descale process. Hope that helps.
Exactly what I needed to know!
Awesome, glad I could help!
Best instructions ever for keurig supreme descaling and getting the light to turn off ty❤
Thank you for the comment, I'm glad I could help!
Great video!!! You made it look easy!
Thanks, glad you thought so! Thanks for the comment!
Great informative video. I would add remove water filter in pitcher prior to adding descaling solution. Insert filter after descaling.
Thank you!
You’re welcome
Why does the coffee cream curdle
You're the bomb! Thank you.
you're welcome!
Do you have to let the add water light come on Or can you add more water before during the descaling process. My Kureg machine blew out during the descaling process , when I let the add water light go on. Ty
I know that voice 🙂🙂
Unfortunately, this fried my Keurig as it never said add water and tried to heat nothing and got too hot without the water and fried my internal components. $160 coffee maker down the toilet.
I new this voice 🙂🙂
What do you need to make yogurt ?
Ive gone 2 fills of the tank and descale wont turn off. I think I should be passed good now.

Helpful, thank you

Did not work, followed your instructions and the Descale light is still on.

Thank you best instructions I've seen.
Awesome, glad I could help, thanks for the comment!
