- These are the most common mistakes Keurig owners make every day to brew coffee that just isn't as good as it should be.

I personally own every modern Keurig sold in stores and I help customers understand the differences between them all to the best of my ability. You can see the current list of Keurig brewers that I recommend to people on this page: www.topoffmycoffee.com/best-k...

Back in 2007, when I got my Keurig B60 Special Edition (which I still use every day to this day), I started the very first Yahoo User Group for exchanging unwanted flavors of K-Cups. I called the club The K-Cup Exchange. There were thousands of members exchanging k-cups and lots of brewing tips and tons of coffee talk. Every time Green Mountain would release a new flavor, they'd send me boxes to give away. And many online k-cup retailers would send machines and countless boxes of k-cups to have contests with. This worked out for sellers and members alike, but it began to be a ton of work for me with my day job and all. Alas, I gave ownership of the group to a few of the earliest members and it soon fell apart. Oh well, it was a great ride for many. My B60se is a reminder to me of that great group every time I brew a cuppa joe.
I was a Finance Controller at the factory in Ohio that developed the K-cup along with Keurig. When the patent expired in 2013, the company I worked for lost the Keurig business; however, quickly picked up on other brand K-Cups. There was only one machine left producing the plastic cups when I left the company. That machine put out around 200,000 cups per hour.
Thank you so much for this video!!! Really appreciate it. I had a Verismo Machine from Starbucks, over two year but I got hit with the news that they discontinued their pods. So I bought myself a Keurig Mini but when I started making my cup of coffee it wasn’t the same quality at all. With your video I realized I was pouring too much water and that I also needed to do an extra cycle after every cup to maintain it clean. Thanks so much. My coffee tastes much better now.
Just bought mine! It’s a compact and has the choice of 6, 8 or 10 ozs of coffee. I’m glad I watched this video! I now know to always choose the 6 ozs. Thank you so much for the suggestions.
Thank you for taking the time to put this helpful video together and God bless you 🙏🏻
After 12+ years of roasting coffee, trying to find an effective and profitable way to put our coffee into pods, found a method in Nov 2021, I cannot reveal all the steps we do, it took a LOT of science to figure it out. It also takes a LOT of time and money to produce top-quality coffee pods. Not only because we use the finest, freshly roasted beans, but, all the other things you mentioned, the high quality plastic pods (which are 100% recyclable), the lids, and our exclusive method of sanitizing and sealing the cups so the coffee stays fresh, and, we ship direct to consumers, be it at home, office, you name it.
I really appreciate this video. Since we introduced our coffee in pods, we have had a number of people contact us who have problems, 9.999 times out of 10, it ends up being due to the errors and issues you have just mentioned in this video, so, thank you so much for taking the time to making this video!
We were going to do our own video, which we probably one day will do, but, you saved us a lot of time with exactly the info people need who are wanting the best from the K-cup makers.
And, even though you mention other coffees here, and talk specifically about pricing, what to expect to spend, I now direct my customers who have issues to this video in particular!
I agree, don't use the cheap pods...the coffee inside is terrible, and you can definitely taste the plastic residue after brewing. It is a horrible after-taste and probably not a healthy thing to drink!
My only issue is, I disagree with your price point statements, you've likely not tried our coffee, so, I get where you are coming from, but, our customers think ours is the best they have ever had, and, we are north of $1 per pod. We have to be. We just wouldn't make enough profit otherwise, which is why we are in business. Granted, your video was shot in 2020, green bean prices were much lower then. In today's market, people should expect to spend north of $1 per pod for high-quality stuff.
Today, Mar 2022, prices on everything are way up. It would be great if you could add to the end of this video an update and state more current pricing.
BTW - Our pods are 100% recyclable (the plastic and lid) and compostable (the grounds and internal filter). We chose to use the recyclable plastic versus the one you showed that is just open at the bottom due to the fact that there is no real good way to keep those pods fresh once the bag is open, and the fact is, even though those claim to be compostable, they either need to be sent to a special place that will do that or, it is a lot of messy and inconvenient work to do yourself.
Please let me know if we can put a link here to our website for those who wish to find us.
Look forward to viewing more videos from you!
Mike
So I found this video in 2021 and went on to view the one on how to clean a Keurig. I use it because it was a gift even though I don't enjoy the coffee as much as brewing my own, but I have become addicted to the convenience even though those little cups are expensive. Anyway, my unit was starting to sound like an ole man gasping for breath. So glad I found you because I am amazed how much better it is brewing (and sounding) after a good thorough clean. Thanks Keurig Man. Hope you're still viewing comments.
I use Starbucks pods and I think my Keurig makes great coffee. I also serve my guests this coffee, lots of compliments on the coffee. I also have well water that tastes great from the tap.
Cafe Verona is my jam.
Which model did you buy?
Yikes! Well water ... As far as I can tell well water contains all kinds of mineral impurities and need some kind of purification that compromises it's taste.
I'm a "HARDCORE" coffee drinker and owned a Keurig the moment it came out. Last week for my bday I got the NEW K-Supreme Plus which can do 4,6,8,10,and 12oz coffee with strength and temp options. I use the 10oz and 12oz BUT the key is DARK ROAST and the strength is strong and temp highest and the coffee is perfect everytime and at any size but I do 10 to 12oz nothing less. Thanks for sharing 😊
Totally agree. I have the K- Cafe smart.
The only problem I have come across with the K-Supreme Plus is, if you accidentally run it dry, the thermostat locks up and you have to take the machine apart to fix it. I am 72 yrs old and was able to do it. But will avoid it in the future. Love the machine.
Did you learn anything from the presenter re not exceeding 6 oz cup size?
Thank you for the information Because this is my first one! The book doesn't go into this all this information! Thanks for sharing this! Love it!😅😅😅
This is exactly how I brew my coffee as well. Intense flavour and the hottest setting on the 12 oz size setting using fresh very fine ground beans. Our Supreme Plus machine was a very recent purchase from Costco Canada after owning one of the earlier version of Keurigs for years. It came with the refillable ground coffee holder as well as 3 water filters. It’s an awesome machine. So many settings!
I enjoyed the video. Thank you for sharing. This may have already been mentioned in the comments but I thought I would share this additional suggestion anyway. It's not going to improve the coffee taste but it will make cleanup a bit easier. I found a disc-shaped object a little over an inch tall to lift the cup much closer to the nozzle when brewing. This has greatly reduce the amount of splash during the brewing cycle.
Keurig should send you a box of coffee cartages for making this video. Thanks for making!
This video is now two years old, but all seven mistakes still apply. Thank you for reminding us to do better! Liked and subscribed. Lou from Georgia.
I don’t even know why I’m watching this. I don’t own a Keurig nor do I even drink coffee 🙃
Gotta love the recommendations on RUclips
🤣
😂😂😂
Yx
🙂 They also have tea, soup, and hot chocolate kcups.
🤦🏾♀️ Girl, 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I'm dead.
Pleasant tutorial…informative, close up camera helpful. Thank you for sharing.
We have had our Kerrigan for over 12 years , and it finally is slowing down. I refuse to replace it until it dies. Great video.
Great video. I always use the strong button and after switching to the bottled water, I definitely noticed a difference in my coffee. I do think most people's machines don't last long because they don't do proper routine maintenance. I had my first machine for about 5 years and only upgraded because I was gifted a new machine. My current machine is still going strong and I've had it for just shy of 4 years. We use it 2-3 times a day.
The main reason their machines doesn't last long because they get in the bad habit of turning the power on & off burning out the heater function & switch. They turn it off at night or on & off after every use. It ruins the machine doing that. The solution is to keep the Keurig machine's power on 24-7 with a full tank of water. And only turn it off (and empty the water tank) when going away on vacation. And of course de-scale & clean it twice a year. It doesn't use up any more power leaving the machine on 24-7 than any old standard coffee maker did with a clock or timer on it.
I've had my touch screen Keurig machine for well over 12 years and it's still working fine. I'm afraid to get a new one🎉🎉
Been using my refill K-Cup with my Costco brand coffee. Tks for the great tips.
I'm encouraged to find that I practice most of these tips already. The pre-puncture of the cup and white vinegar tips were new for me, the rest are things I already do. I use the cleaning products that Keurig sells - the de-scaling treatment and the rinse pods (use 1 of those per week), but I might give the vinegar a try. Like some others, I'm willing to use store-brand if necessary. I prefer Green Mountain.
Run some brewing cycles after the vinegar till it's clean of color and taste.
#1 Buying one.
Thank you SO much for making this video. I think I’ve made all 7 mistakes at some point. I learned a lot. I’m hoping that when I implement your suggestions they will help!!
Very informative and well edited. Subbed!
I’m very happy I found your channel. Thank you for the great advice. Especially the last tip on the cheaper brands. Grant it, none of the cups I get are “cheap” but I have plastic cup variety in my cabinet along with the k cups without the plastic. No wonder why the coffee tastes better without the plastic cup! Lol. I thought It was the brand alone. I do like grinding my own as well. And because of you I know how many grams are used per 6 oz. again, thank you for you sharing your knowledge.
Such a wonderful way of explaining some thing, very simple, easy and down to the bottom information level. Thank you.
I have to admit, I have been lax on cleaning our Keurig. I noticed that it really slows down after my grandson uses a hot cocoa pod. I've used the Keurig descaling kits a few times and this video has also helped me learn a few things, especially about pushing down on the pod before closing the lid and rinsing after every cup. Thank you for taking the time to make this video.
A bit of unsolicited advice, but the Keurig hot cocoa pods are basically just super concentrated versions of the instant powder. I buy the swiss miss packets, put them directly in the mug, and then just run the Keurig to make hot water. It comes out slightly pressurized so it helps to dissolve and stir the cocoa, but you definitely still need to stir it well. It will save you a bunch of $$ if you use the pods for your grandson often. ☺️
You need to run a cup of just plain hot water without the pod, to clean out the chocolate out of the brewer. I remember reading that in the instuctions in the first Keurig I got, many years ago.
About to buy one so I was going thru the reviews thank you for your review it’s very helpful!☺️
The rinsing after brewing just makes total sense! Thanks!
It does? I use bottled, purified water. So you are telling me too throw away a cup of water after every cup of coffee, do I understand this right? that’s doubling how much water I use all the time… and I’m not even using the water I’m throwing half of it away!
These videos are the best Kerrigan instructional on RUclips! Thank you so much.
Rather than use any pods I buy whole bean coffee, grind it myself, then fill a reusable pod. My Keurig came with a caraffe so I use an appropriate larger pod which gives me a full three mugs of coffee every morning. If I do want a single mug later in the day I also have a couple of regular size refillable pods I can use. And note, the only trash I create with this method is the used coffee grounds which I save and fork into my potting soil for my herb and vegetable garden.
Thank you for the tips, especially about pre puncturing the pod and the once a week vinegar rinses. I have a Sboly on the way and this is going to be a big help
Had several keurig pots and you have to fill to a certain level of water before they will brew.
I recently bought a keruig mini because my bigger keruig stopped working. I really appreciate your video . You offer some good suggestions and I never thought about rinsing out mine after making a cup. It’s genius Really makes perfect sense👍
Very thorough and detailed review and your take on coffee cups and cleaning in general was great, made me realize what I need to do with my machines!
My favorite part of this video is not the most helpful information contained within, but rather the subtle sense of haughty derision with which it is delivered. Well done.
Sam’s Club Organic Dark Roast really does taste good in an 8oz size. It’s sold in a box of about 100.
@@joannewelsh961 I think you replied to the wrong post.
Concur. 😆 It's like a wine aficionado vid...I particularly like the "wearing a fashionable hat indoors" touch.
What you say about my momma ?!?!?
@@drw1926 No, I think she is agreeing and that there are cheaper generic or store brands that are good too. No need to break the bank on expensive coffee.
Might have to try a few of these tricks. Beginning with cleaning.
Just returned a Keurig mini. I was disappointed of the coffee weakness and realized that the machine wasn't capable of making 8oz (1 cup) or more. Glad I found this video to confirm my feelings.
Refillable K cups can fit a bit more coffee in them than the prefilled commercial ones. Decent for a 6 oz cup at least.
Thumbs up on the first tip alone - I wondered why I was sometimes getting some stray grit/grounds out of what ought to be a sealed system.
When I first got a K-cup type coffee maker, I had read you’re always supposed to use filtered water to brew coffee. I have a Brita pitcher and I always use filtered water. Seems to work for me.
Same
Me too. I don't have to clean it as often, and the coffee tastes better.
I just bought a Keurig and love it! Personally, I can't tell the difference between my usual French Press coffee and top quality and expensive K-Cups.
But because I'm one who usually can not think "outside the box" I had no idea how the machine made the coffee stronger pressing that button.
Now I know.
Same here
Went from a nice french press to a Kuerig no looking back! 👍
Really helpful and demonstrate almost all possible mistakes that everyone do. I did Mistake #1 on my very first attempt. Thanks for taking to time to share info.
this was very helpful thanks! i didnt do anything you mentioned except i never use tap water, always filtered. but now ill try the rest of your tips!
Man, I love your videos! Brazilians are, in general, coffee lovers! So am I! Brewing a cup of coffee is not a simple thing, it's all about the experience, the quality of the coffee, the strength, the flavor... you totally understand that. I just returned a Keurig machine to Walmart. It was a Keurig K-Slim. I have a K-Classic at my workplace and the lowest cup is the right for me. Unfortunately, the sizes available on K-Slim are 8, 10, and 12oz. 8oz for me is not as strong as I like it. Nice channel!
I actually bought the K-Slim to compare it to my K-Mini Plus that I've been using for the past year and I was so underwhelmed. I made a video on it and will probably use it a few more time for the channel and for articles that I post on my website but that's probably it, IMO it's a dud of a machine. BTW, thanks for all your comments, I'm seriously glad to help out and yes, I do love my coffee and as much as I know about it I just don't care for the snobbery that can exist in coffee circles.
The amount of coffee varies in all brands of k-cup. I like the flavor of the Walmart brand k-cup coffee. The dark version.
I will now be pre-puncturing my k-cups. Thank you.
I read in the manual that it says to pre-puncture the cups for high altitude as well. I just press mine in before closing the lid anyways, so I guess I was doing it right before I read the instructions LOL.
I have seriously leaned so much today! Thank you for your information! I got like and subscribed.
Even 2 years later, this info is sooo needed!! Thank you!! ☺️☺️☺️☺️
Great video.
I was lucky enough to have a good friend send a first generation Keurig coffee maker to me in Canada.
Green mountain was the only coffee affiliated with Keurig at that time. She also included two re-usable capsules to enable using any coffee brand you wanted to. That machine is still in use.
Here's what I did.
Once every three months, add vinegar to the reservoir and run it through with a full reservoir of fresh water for a good rinse.
Clean the head often, no longer then two weeks.
Learn what coffee suits your taste and stick with it.
I have always used water from a Brita pitcher kept in the fridge.
I learned the puncturing the pod first a year ago after getting grounds in my cup, I thought it was a faulty pod branding issue. I was wrong but figured it out.
I liked it for the ease of use.
I have used presses, I have a Nespresso machine by Breville that I love, as much as I like some of Nespresso's brand coffees, I am a die hard Lavazza fan and their pods go on sale fairly regularly.
I work in an Italian based community so the stove top Bialetti is a staple and it's always Crema e Gusto from Lavazza.
Thanks for the video :)
This video was very helpful and informative. Thanks.
Slight correction: while vinegar DOES have some disinfectant properties due to it's acetic acid, it's really a crappy disinfectant. I use it in a Keurig due to it's solvent effect, to keep scale from building up . CITRIC acid, used in the Keurig descale solution, works better to keep the water flowing. After a vinegar run I also find I have to rinse with several TANKS of water to get rid of the vinegar odor in my coffee.
Our Keurig wasn’t pumping water through it so we used vinegar to run through it. We ran it about 4 times and hubby thought vinegar should be gone by then but it wasn’t. He made cup of coffee and had to throw it away because it still had vinegar going through it. Lol! I emptied out and put fresh water in tank.
@@dgh5223 the water can be dumped , but the system still has vinegar, so I run the whole tank twice.
The water with vinegar that I pumped out ,I throw in the washer or bathroom sink.
I make my k cups with my favorite coffee. Walmart sells the refill kcups. I'm very frugal.
@@Dianatorres6990 I’ve been wanting to try those refill cups. I’m a big recycler so I hate chucking out the K-cups.
@@cak8132 in my experience those those refill cups it can be (or must be) super tricky and usually I've ended up with watered down tasting coffee no matter what I've tried. I suppose someone that is an expert and knows the right amount (or trick) and how to use it properly can eventually find or make coffee to their liking, but I was never able to find that correct balance and I tired it with many various coffees. Plus depending on how strong you might want it, thicker quality coffee can clog the machine using those refill cups. And I've tired better thicker stronger coffees and it still came out watery for myself. lol. It was an interesting experiment I just gave up trying with those refill cups. It made horrible coffee that I ended up throwing down the drain almost every time. Good luck though if you try it.
@@WrestlingErnestHemingway Thanks for the caveats. I appreciate your taking the time to explain some of the downsides.
Good video! I have been taking short cuts to cleaning so I appreciate your recommendations.
Thank you I need a second coffee maker for guest and wasn’t really sure of the direction to go. This helped immensely.
I understand being uptight about coffee😁. Appreciate the details.
We also use the fillable cups from Molita. We grind up a small jar each week and it takes about 5 min to assemble and brew but we have found our coffee tastes better and have come to appreciate the experience. Thanks for the cleaning tips! We definitely will start doing them regularly.
Thank you, was having trouble with new Keurig, now runs great 👍
i just got one a couple weeks ago, a duo plus and think it makes great coffee way better then my old coffee maker but im also able to pick and choose a flavor or type easier and have been able to try many more brands with it without buying a lot of one kind to find what i like! thank you for the helpful tips because it really did not come with great instructions! like it just says put the cup in and close nothing vary descriptive and i wondered about the needs and sealing but seemed to work so i didnt give it a second thought but i will now
Nice work. You have a good sense of engineering, I see. That helps when you are trying to trouble-shoot a coffee maker.
As always, coffee drinkers have very different ideas when it comes to the relative "strength" of a cup of coffee. Also, I just bought my first Keurig two months ago. The company keeps refining the design, so therefore I can easily see why the need for more and more "how to" Keurig videos. My brewer seems to be a lot simpler with less room for error or clogging.
I have no doubt a French press or drip pour-over would make a better cup of coffee, for the true java aficionado. I believe that method is for people who go through fresh coffee beans like crazy because they really enjoy drinking several cups a day. I notice with even some of the nicest ground coffees available, they tell you to go through the bag within 2 or 3 weeks. If you aren't able to do that, the taste of the coffee is so degraded! Therefore I will take the Keurig because I can only drink one cup of coffee per day.
Thanks for the video! I learned quite a bit about the cleaning process, and I personally use a water filter that is the best imo. I will definitely stick to the 6oz size with my new incoming k mini plus going forward from my k cafe. I also use the my k-cup refillable filter these days which also helps out a bit with my costs as well.
Thank you for taking the time to make these amazing videos!!!
I thank you so much for taking your time to make this video. Understanding how to clean the reservoir with vinegar completely saved us from throwing away a perfectly good Keurig. Also I think your video is concise, informative, honest, and extremely helpful. Anyone who gave this video a thumbs down, must not have been patient enough to watch it completely. This video was well written, very easy to understand and extremely helpful. Obtuse comments should be disregarded. Thank you again.
Learned so much! Thank youuu
I buy the refillable K-cups and get great coffee beans from either Montana Coffee Traders or Texas Coffee Traders. I grind the beans fresh and always have great tasting coffee. I use filtered water from my fridge and can adjust the amount of coffee for the size of my mug. No drinking six ounces at a time or having to use two expensive K-cups to make 12 ounces. Use a Bur type coffee Grinder. Not the blade type. The coffee is not cheap where I order my coffee online and stays fairly fresh until ground.
I have the refillable ones too! It makes great coffee!
me too !!!!
Great reply. Refillables with good fresh ground coffee is as good as K-Pod coffee can be. Seems odd that the presenter completely ignored the biggest Keurig mistake of all.
Try roasting your own beans for the very best coffee.

Good morning from Seattle! i just found your channel this morning & after watching the 1st video, subscribed! I love coffee!! My wife & i just spent 2 weeks in Paris France & 2 weeks in Lisbon Portugal. While we were gone, we really noticed how different the coffee was between Seattle & Europe. I wish i had found your channel a long time ago. Great content & thanks for all of the great tips!! I am excited to make some changes about how i make coffee. Looking forward to a better cup!!
Excellent video! Answered soo many questions, now I’ll go back to using my Keurig😊
I got my first mini kuerig a couple months ago and so far love it and i look forward to upgrading in the future but which resuseable pods would you recommend? Also I never grinded my own coffee but I'm interested in learning to save money so how would I know if I'm grinding my coffee correctly so it doesn't go through its pod? Would you recommend a coffee grinder too lol. Thanks for sharing your tips 😀 😊
Exactly.....got mine for convenience but I’m finally done with Keurig I’m ready for Breville High End Coffee, Expresso Machine
****And my Keurig Machines never ever got hot enough
Thank you for this info. I started using a filter for my K machine and using ground coffee instead of the pods. Guess I'm getting stingy as I get older but those things are expensive.
Hey! Remember me! My concern was that my pot was not pouring out the coffee! So I found out that the tube was not inserted unto the pot tube support. So coffee comes out nice. I couldn't figure it out at first but I looked inside and hooked it up! Now happy with coffee pot! 😂😂😂😂😂❤it!
My husband and I have been drinking Newman’s Own medium roast bold coffee from Costco for years. We love the flavor. We tried some cheaper ones and went back to Newman’s.
Me too I love Newman's Own but lately I tried Peets (major dickasons) dark roast or french and it is really good now i alternate between the two.
I get the store brand k cups that are 100% biodegradable pods. It has no plastic but the individual wrapping. I like that it doesn't have the plastic cup to toss as well as a wrapper. I'm saving some of the used ones to put in my plants or planting bulbs with its own pod. I can save the used pods for the garden. So later I can enjoy a great cup of coffee and watch the flowers and plants grow.
I live in Florida, where tap water doesn’t taste great at all. I switched to using bottled water, and definitely tasted the difference right away.
Great tips here, definitely learned new things from it.
THANK YOU! I bought a high end Keurig as a well deserved retirement present for myself and I've been really disappointed. But today I tried all of the suggestions, some I was already doing but I think that the big game changer was selecting 6oz. instead of 10oz.
It now smells and tastes like coffee. Can't wait for sunrise tomorrow.
Great tips. I was like “I’m not guilty of these things until. . . “ I just got up to run a rinse cycle. ☺️ Thanks.
LOL, love it! We all forget to rinse it out every now and then. :D
Qjqk
What in the world is the rinse cycle???
@@lindabrown544 Well, Keurig calls it a "cleansing brew" - it's a where you just run clean water through so it can give a general cleaning before you actually brew your cup.
I use the refillable k-cups that way I can use my favorite coffee and can pack it full and have great coffee every time! I still have the convenience and its cheaper than buying prefilled k-cups! I love my Keurig!
Yup, I use the EZ cup reusable K-cups and they work just fine.
@Kyle Haze I really pack it full and use a fine ground coffee, that works for me.
@Kyle Haze I pack the coffee down inside the cup to get the stronger flavour I like.
Me too! It's a whole lot cheaper! I've been using Keurig for years.....& I can use my favorite kind of coffee, by using those kind of refillable k-cups & with none of the problems as he was describing.....
To me it's fine with k cups as is a few are even too strong.
I tried filtered water and the strong button. World of difference. So good. I was afraid it would be bitter, but it was just a better taste. Thanks so much.
Thank you. I have a Keurig Mini Plus in my travel trailer. I will use your advice moving forward.
I can’t wait to wake up and use the Strong blend! ☕️👍🏼
I use citric acid instead of vinegar since it works just as well and doesn’t stink.
I own the K155 and have not seen the puncture problem with this machine at all. I sometimes prefer milder coffee but will try the 6 oz instead of 8. Still my fav cup is Maxwell House, HouseBlend and find it delightful with some creamer and sweetener even with 8 oz of water. My machine does not have a strong button but I bought the Keurig precisely for an occasional milder cup. I would never use tap water. We have very hard water. Strangely enough, the taste with filtered water was much improved from that of bottled water. As for washing, I agree and is only common sense. Great advice on cheap generic K-cups!
With this said, over the years I’ve bought different machines with the Nespresso being my least favorite. My Italian made espresso machine is great but when a milder cup is what I want, it’s the Keurig. I have also learned ways of preparing different K-cups to suit my taste. For a Cafe Escapes mocha, for example, I brew only 4 oz and add another 4 oz of warm milk. It’s a matter of preparing it to your liking to succeed with most machines.
Very helpful! I'm thinking of buying a keurig mini plus!. thanks for making this video
Hi Great video, thanks. Two points about the cups that don't have the plastic cup:
1) they are fully biodegradable. I have seen the time laps video of these and they totally broke down to dirt before the meat on a chicken bone was gone (both in the same shot). Even the ring that looks and feels like plastic is actual made of compressed coffee been shells.
2) they are much fresher coffee. The sealed cups need to be fully staled before they can be sealed up otherwise the off gassing will pop the foil tops. If you look at the silver bag these come in there is a vent / valve to release the off gasses ... because these are much fresher coffee.
I used to work at a grocery chain and knew the coffee people and got the inside scoop.
Like you say, never as good as a pour over or press, but the best of the "instant" options. And yep, the cheep discount stuff is cheep and horrible.
I like a larger coffee but see your point on smaller size with only 11 g of coffee.
Thanks
You are an Excellent speaker! Great pace, control, tone and you make each point well. 90% of me watching this was listening to your presentation. Really well done my friend! Good info too...
Yes, what he said.
I never even thought about some of these mistakes... I think I make most of these mistakes. Super helpful. Thank you!
...And I thought my taste problem was due to the filter.
I watched this video and thought it was so silly but then I wanted go give you the benefit of the doubt and tried out your tips and oh my Lord has it made a difference!!
I've been using my Keurig (with tap water) for two years without ever rinsing, cleaning, descaling, etc...
It's Seasoned!
Lol
A regular quarterly vinegar descaling will keep your machine running better and the cup of jo tasting nice
DESCALE YOUR MACHINE NOW !!!!! 😁

Nope: Seasoned!
But thanks for your input...
Probably seasoned with lime scale 😂😂💀
As a person who works at Keurig. If you look at the side of the k-cup itself it will tell you the exact time it was made in military time. Most people don't notice this because it's lasered in very faintly.
The layout on the k-cup should look something like this
BUBD 010923
NA PL098 08
19:55 1009
The first two lines are essentially just where the k-cup was made essentially. While the last two was the time that it was made. 1009 is actually 10/09. For some reason they don't put the year on the print. But it doesn't actually matter because they won't sell k-cups after they have been sitting for a year. So I assure you those cups are not more than a year old as it would essentially be expired past that point.
Thank you. That's great information. Personally, I think they should use part of the first line like the "010923" as the manufacturing date and then the "1009" as the expiration.
😊
Mine says 3271, that's not a valid date
Great tips! Decided on getting a water filtration pitcher after watching this; had just been using tap water up to this point.
Very helpful for when I do purchase my first kuerig
I got a little single cup coffee maker. It's not a Keurig, but it's kind of similar, and it came with a basket for pots and a basket for ground coffee. I tend to go back and forth between using pods and ground and the ground coffee tastes a bit better. Also, a vinegar cleaning really helped the blah flavor and slower brew time I encountered so highly recommend that. Don't forget to run plain water through the machine two or three times after the vinegar though. Otherwise yuck.
I’d like to thank the people who came up with the cups that I can fill myself. If you have a newer Keurig, you can get a little clip that goes on it so those cups will work.
Even Folgers coffee can taste wonderful with about 12 1/2 g of coffee in the pod. I’m also a fan of Pete’s coffee and black rifle coffee. The quality really is there.
I have refillable cups but no instructions for how much coffee to put in them. Can you help??
@@bernieyorke6356 I packed the cups about 7/8 full with light pressure. If you have a really good cooking scale, it’s about 0.4 oz but I’ll have to check it sometime to make sure
I loved this video. I use the cup that u can fill with your own coffee. I find these pre-filled cups make it way to strong.
I have and use both a Professional Bunn VPR machine and a Stovetop traditional Percolator as my main home Coffee station. I invested in these because I love REALLY GREAT COFFEE.... However at work I do use a Keurig with the Bold setting strictly for the convenience. Your video is Excellent.....I follow your cleaning suggestions regularly....as well as the use of filtered water. I can't stress the importance of cleaning these machines especially at work where I've seen slimy gunked up residue leftover from gross vanilla bean or French vanilla or other " Flavored " coffee pods. Our Keurig is the higher end which has a built in filter....multi Oz setting as well as Bold setting. It also has an easy to remove & clean cartridge/tray ..which All makes for pretty good coffee....NOT GREAT...but Pretty good.
Lastly you are correct on the cheapo pods. Ugh. Also I've found the hot chocolate pods are a disaster....they gunk up and many times will cause the machine to malfunction with an error code.
As for pods...Ive tried them all and yes Personal taste is unavoidable....but I have found that "Colombian" flavor pods give the best " Coffee strength" of all the Colombian Brands...I have found " Gevalia Colombian " the ABSOLUTE BEST....followed closely by...MCCafe (Yes McDonald's) Colombian K-cups.....both even at 10oz Bold setting give a damn good "Convenient " cup o ☕️ !!
Thank you I understand how to use My kcup universal pod! I was so confused
You are welcome Courtney, the instructions definitely need to be updated a bit now that so many new machines have come out with "plus" on the box.
Superb, super great tips, really good stuff, thank you
Thanks for the feedback as always Orrin!
Mistake 4B: Buying bottled water instead of just installing an RO unit with its own faucet at your sink. Did enjoy this video. This is the guy I would trust for my coffee making needs. Although he’d be very disappointed in how watered down my big cup of coffee is and how few times the unit is cleaned in a year.
I have the Keurig 2.0. I took all the loose parts out. Soaked in vinegar and hot water. Then, scrubbed each item. As well as wiped the inside of the machine. Where the part comes out. Used a little vinegar and hot water for that also. When soaking the pieces, you'll see it's getting cleaned when you see vinegar bubbles in your water/vinegar solution. I washed with soap and rinsed all parts over and over, rinsed with hot water. I crossed my fingers and put all the pieces back. Making sure, when I removed the needle to point the needle in the direction, I found it. PS: I was this close to throwing it in the trash. But she's a working. Yippee! Thank you for your video. 🤗
"We love Keurig because it's convenient, here's my top 10 tips for complicating your coffee ritual."
basically yes
I hear you, but he’s right. Bottom line? Yes, you can have convenience, but what are you trading for it? Taste. “No, thanks.” I’m not just trying to get a dose of caffeine with that first joe of the day. I want it to taste the best it can, and his tips promote *that*.

Keurigs manual specifically say do not use distilled water. So your walking a fine line by recommending filtered or bottled water. Depending on each individual type/brand you may be using water this is NOT recomended for the machine. Just sayin. Use your own common sense people. Real coffee connoisseur here for a guy that uses a keurig
@@JPaupst Filtered or most bottled water is not the same as distilled water.
Love this video, you are more than a Great speaker!
We use filters and our choice of coffee grounds. And can recycle all of it. Great information in your vids. Thank You.
Subscribed and liked! I have had to replace my Keurig about every 3 yrs. Sometimes I get so frustrated that they don't seem to last that long. I still always end up replacing with another Keurig.
Maybe my mistake is that I wait for the descale light to come on before I use vinegar it. When the light does come on, I always dread the descale process. I have to run vinegar through it SEVERAL cycles. Sometimes I can't get the descale light to go off after going through the vinegar cycles for a hour or more. We use filtered water from our refrigerator door. We change the water filter in our fridge every year months as recommended.
I will start trying your suggestion of descaling with vinegar weekly. Excited to see if it makes my current Keurig last any longer. I ALWAYS end up having some kind of problem with any model Keurig I have bought. I think I have had 4 different models since I started using Keurig probably 10 yrs ago. I wish there was a better way to descale them..
There should be some way to open the open tank and get inside with a brush to clean any water build up on the guts of the machine. Before I started using Keurig I always bought Bunn coffee makers. Bunn made it possible to empty the water tank and clean inside it. Keurig needs to do the same thing.
I definitely think Keurig knows water will build up eventually and slow down the motor and heating reservoir. They want people to replace there Keurigs, frequently.
Great video btw! I will be sharing it with my husband. Especially loved the tip about the Kcup placement.
I've always used filtered water 💧 in the machine . I can taste the difference!!
Great to hear that some people out there do this! I know you can taste the difference too. If you ever brew coffee through paper filters you should try brewing plain water through two different brands of paper filters to see which one tastes the best and the worst. Some paper filters impart surprising amounts of foul flavors into the coffee too.
I've tried filtered water and bottled spring water, but my tap water makes noticeably better coffee.
@@TopOffMyCoffee Plus, with most of the machines (the first, imho... phew, way different & much better quality/manufacturing) .... using water through what is mostly, if not all... plastic parts/tubing, helps it last longer & avoid things like calcium deposits, etc. from clogging it up quicker. ~Enjoy, stay safe & be well.
My kuerig manual said for machine long service only use bottled water , tap water here is really bad .
@@TopOffMyCoffee look for non bleeched light brown filter papers .
I do mine on 12 ounces and love it. I do have a strong button but I don’t use it.
I use 10 oz, but not the strong setting.
Such a good point about rinsing your coffee pot. In fact, do a rinse cycle on your coffee maker after you're done! It will help keep junk out of the coffeemaker!
I so agree with #5. I was drinking coffee with a friend once, had a horrific taste. Found out she never washed or cleaned the machine, in 3 years and the funk on it was nasty! I became OCD by cleaning mine daily. Thanks for sharing this whole video.
Since I got my Keurig, its been “game over,” I never use any other method.
Me too!
Ye[, definitely a convenience factor. I only drink a few cups a week. A single serve unit is great.
@Sugar Shane isn’t taste subjective? I don’t like espresso.
@Sugar Shane I don’t think you under “subjectivity.”
@Sugar Shane Do they do a single cup? I wonder how they brew "differently" than Kueurig?
