I use a mix of ready-made K pods and a reusable pod. I have some pods left over from when I purchased my Keurig a few weeks ago, and I need to use them up. And sometimes I'm just really in a hurry. One thing I've found with the store-bought pods is that I get a better cup of coffee if I puncture the bottom first by snapping it in tightly before lowering the top for the upper puncture. And a dark roast nearly always gives me a better brew.
I have the old school OG keurig model. I recently started using Gevalia ground coffee after using the Starbucks Pike Place brand for so long. The Gevalia is my new favorite now! It's much bolder and much more flavor. I'm not a coffee snob, but I know what tastes good to me. Unlike most people, I drink coffee for the flavor and not as a pick-me-up. Coffee does nothing for me in that department. I've noticed that the Gevalia coffee grounds are much more finer ground (more like a powder) than the Starbucks and causes my Keurig longer to brew. I actually descaled it using your video because I thought it was getting clogged and I'm so glad I did! There was so much old coffee and residue inside the k-cup holder and the water lines. My Keurig was taking much longer to draw water from the tank than usual also. Turns out the valve at the bottom of the tank was slightly clogged.
So glad to hear that my descaling instructions were beneficial to you. On the other front I got my start in coffee somewhere around 2005 when I joined a Gevalia coffee club right out of college. I enjoyed everything I got from them. Haven't tried their coffee in years though so I may have to give it a try just for experimentation. The way you describe them now it reminds e of Lavazza coffee which comes pre-ground in a medium-fine grind size, not quite espresso fine but typically finer than pre-ground coffee usually is. One thing to keep in mind is that finer grind takes up less space, if you put a medium grind in a My K-Cup you may get 18 grams but a finer grind filled to the same level may get 19-20 grams. It will slow things down so make sure to not overfill. If you are using regular k-cups though you needn't worry. Thanks for your comments Terrance!
I haven't had Gevalia in years. I may have to revisit them. I currently use Starbucks House Blend. Try the Starbucks Organic Yukon Blend. It's pretty good. But, like you, I'm no coffee snob so...

Anyhow, "Newman's" is SO good- again, imho - that we rarely venture w/k-cups. *Plus, on Amazon Subscribe & Save, we have it down to about $.27 cents a cup, per box of 72 ct.~ great bargain for exceptional coffee! Just got a supreme plus and it makes the most watery coffee ever, even on the strongest setting. 🤷🏻♂️ It’s even worse then our old one that only has 1 needle. I’ve noticed the first few seconds of the brew comes out almost clear water. I will have to try the smallest cup sizes and maybe the reusable screen cup. 🤷🏻♂️ Thanks for the info. 😊🤙🏽
We just received the Supreme Plus as a gift 2 days ago. I have used a Keurig in the past and truly enjoyed the San Francisco Bay French Roast pods, and they were quite inexpensive. This new brewer is intentionally designed to never use paper pods (non k-cup pods) correctly. The reason for the 5 streams of water is to push the water thru a paper pod too fast so that the coffee is intentionally wasted. The reusable pod is not an option for us as we have a septic system that we can't wash coffee grounds into. This machine needs to be returned.
@@cliftonmcnalley8469 Yeah the Supreme Plus was a gift for us too! Unfortunately we decided to return it also and bought the K Elite. So far so good, it’s much less watery.

I'll have to pick one up and use it for a few weeks before I start thinking about making a video on it.
I read that the mild lighter coffees have more caffeine than the stronger brew..weird hu. ? But Starbucks said it too on its sight..what do you think ?
Hey Alan, I know lots of websites tell you that a tablespoon is equal to 5 grams of coffee grind but when I measure a tablespoon of grind I consistently get 6 grams. For every ounce of water my rule of thumb is 1.75 grams of coffee. That means for 6 ounce of water that would be 10.5 grams of grind, for 8 ounces of coffee that would be 14 grams of grind, for 10 ounces of coffee that would be 17.5 grams and for 12 ounces of coffee that would be 21 grams of coffee. Based on my measurement of 6 grams per tablespoon that would be slightly more than two tablespoons of grind for every eight ounces of grind.
Thanks for these videos. I'm new to K-cups as where I moved has one. I have the reusable k-cup and love using it even with preground coffee instead of the disposable. What kind of grind do you think works best when grinding yourself? How fine? Coarse like they suggest?
i always enjoy your very informative videos. i have a important question please. do the new supreme/plus coffee makers with the multi stream technology really make a bolder stronger cup cup of coffee that you can notice the difference then just if you were using a regular k cup machine with one needle? thank you very much.
The multi-point injection needles seem to add a pinch of consistency to the cup for the smaller 4-6oz cup size because they wet all the grounds evenly. If you brew 10-12 oz cup sizes, which I don't recommend, then I can't tell the difference. On those bigger portion sizes the grounds get plenty wet even with the single needle systems (even if it isn't all at once) and then they all over extract IMO.
I have one of those Keurig re-usable K-cup capsule’s and it does a pretty good job but if I want 16 ounces of “dark roast” coffee, I need to refill it twice. If I select 10 ounce or 12 ounce coffee it will taste like a medium to light roast. Not my pleasure….. Keurig needs to make a machine that facilitates a typical travel mug size which are 17 or 18 ounce mugs…. My Keurig duo Carafe makes 8, 10 and 12 Cups of coffee. How can I make 16 ounces ( 2 cups) of coffee using only the carafe….? ( that will prevent me from refilling the reusable capsule twice)
Omg I've needed a video like this for so long. My dad buys the k cups and is a minimalistic kind of guy... Meaning as long as it keeps him awake to do his job, he's fine with it. He used to get this really salty tasting coffee that was just 😬😬 I convinced him to get slightly higher quality cups and it's tolerable, but I've definitely been looking for alternatives. I love coffee shops but they're so expensive and I don't go out because of covid. This is the guidance I've needed for so long 😭🥺
I found that those My K-Cup contraptions were horridly inefficient in comparison to a standard kcup, and produced generally worse tasting coffee despite my use of fresh coffee.
When everyone says Keurig is not going to make as good of a cup of coffee as a traditional coffee maker, are you referring to the k pods specifically or even when brewing into the carafe?
Had no idea some K-cups are all plastic with no filter. No wonder people comment that their coffee tastes plasticky and blame the machine. How do I know if the K-cups I buy have a filter? I’m hoping there’s something in the description on the package. I ordered a Keurig and am waiting for delivery.
My Keurigs made -- and make -- VERY good coffee. First of all, do NOT use those expensive, non-eco-friendly, pre-filled pods. Use a reusable K-Cup and buy your own coffee. Also, unless your tap water is REALLY bad, DON'T use bottled water. We throw out too much plastic as it is without adding to it. As for cleaning your Keurig, I don't know about using vinegar, but do NOT, repeat, do NOT use the Keurig descaling solution in your Keurig! After five-plus years of using my Keurig K10 on an almost daily basis, I did a descaling procedure on it, BUT, I made the mistake of using the Keurig descaling solution and my coffee never tasted the same afterwards. As a matter of fact, it had NO taste AT ALL!! It was flat and tasteless, so, I had to get a new coffee maker, another Keurig, of course. It's nice to once again have a coffee maker that makes coffee that TASTES like coffee, but I WON'T make the mistake of using Keurig descaling solution in this new machine!
Dude I love coffee I keep a machine above my bed, yeah I know nuts, lmao , but I’m also disabled ,so !!! Anyway I tried Starbucks mocha it sucked really bad , so I got a local mocha from Austin texas , it’s a veteran owned business and since I’m a DVET , made sense..it was much better..so is it true that smaller local companies that you buy direct from sell better kcup coffee..I keep hearing Keurig makes the best coffee for its machines, which would make some sense , sort of like buying a Ford part for your car ? What brand do you like the best I keep being drawn to the cool artwork on some smaller coffee companies and don’t know if it’s just advertisement or if the coffee is really that good..?
I use the my k-cup reusables so I don't put plastic in the landfill. My wife uses the convenient disposable k- pods and I tell her she's committing environmental terrorism. The man who invented the disposable pods said that he wishes he never had. Imagine the Millions of those little plastic cups going into the landfills every day .
YES!! Keurigs ABSOLUTELY DO make GOOD coffee; ONLY coffee SNOBS, like THIS guy, think otherwise! If he doesn't think a Keurig makes "good" coffee, then WHY does he even BOTHER using one? Just DON'T use the pre-filled coffee pods, (they're not eco-friendly). They're also expensive. Use reusable K-cups and buy your own good-quality coffee. THAT'S the "secret" to getting GOOD coffee from a Keurig.
LOLOLOLOLOL.....Dude just use the pour over method. It's cheaper (a $7.00) V-60 0r similar. Pour gives you almost full control over strength and cup size and it's faster. Don't be lazy
If you have the time to properly boil the water at the right temperature, and the time to babysit a pour over, then by all means to a pour over. For those of us with young children at home and we get very little sleep there are times in our lives we just need something quick and simple and fast. And no, instant coffee doesn’t do it for us. Obviously purchasing high-quality K cups makes for a better tasting cup of coffee.
I am about to buy my own coffee and purchasing a reusable pod. I am trying to figure out if pressing the coffee tightly would help with the flavor. I notice when I shake a normal K-cup the coffee sounds loose. Do you think packing the coffee tightly would help with flavor or cause the water to not flow properly?

This is the guidance I've needed for so long 😭🥺
Uul
Get a French press, for when you want something better. It's cheap and user friendly
I found that those My K-Cup contraptions were horridly inefficient in comparison to a standard kcup, and produced generally worse tasting coffee despite my use of fresh coffee.
hate the new K keurig supreme, cant use my plastic cup on it..
When everyone says Keurig is not going to make as good of a cup of coffee as a traditional coffee maker, are you referring to the k pods specifically or even when brewing into the carafe?
All of the K-Cups regardless of brand are only designed for a 6 of coffee.
He has an ASMR voice. 😌
Kurig hands down
Had no idea some K-cups are all plastic with no filter.
So what would you recommend?
Sad part is. There's probably a thousand different coffee pods out there. And they're ALL manufactured by 1 of 3 different companies.
It still amazes me how people are still being fooled
That beard is sensational!
Why put your own coffee in reusable k cup. I sent the whole point of k cups is convenience
Freshness and cost and single serve
Wrong. My K-Supreme makes great coffee every morning here.
DON'T use water softener water ! Ugh
I thought Nespresso machine made much better Coffee than Keurig
Strong coffee is not necessarily good coffee.
I have had four Keurig's in the last year and they have all crapped out on me. Keurigs are trash.
K-Cup coffee makers are junk everybody needs to get stores get actual coffee makers K-Cup coffee is nasty ground coffee is better fresh
A waste of time.
