very thorough presentation. Thank you very much. rkc
When I put the vinegar and water in the reservoir, I will actually hit "brew" as if making coffee. When a bit of the vinegar finally reaches my cup, I lift the lever so that it stops everything and now all the hot vinegar water is inside the internal tubing. I let it sit for 15. Then, I put the lever back down so it continues to brew and empty into my cup. Gives more time in the internal mechanisms to really remove the mineral deposits.
Great tip. Thanks for sharing this.
I think the same thing is accomplished by running your vinegar/water solution until the “ add water” lights up. Then leave for 20-30 minutes until running more vinegar/water or water rinse Depending what stage are at
I just run some vinegar thru it.
I do this also then I pull the entire holder of the pod out and tray under it and wash with dish soap 😊
@@dylandream2248. z
An important note. It's essential that you allow the vinegar and water solution to sit INSIDE the Coffee maker for a minimum of 15 minutes prior to running another cycle. That does not mean the "Water Reservoir", but rather, the inside tank of the coffee maker that heats the water up. We have extremely hard water where we live, and the vinegar/water solution must stay inside the machine, on the heating element, for a minimum of 15 minutes before flushing the rest of the solution through. Allowing it to sit enables the vinegar to break down the deposits on the element and in the lines.
Great tip for those who have hard water. Thanks so much for sharing this valuable information with us. :-)
I have very hard water too and so I only use bottled water in my Keurig.
Actually if your Keurig is like mine the last step in the brew cycle blows air through the tubing to flush all the water out.
@@magsteel9891 OMG - I never understood that 'blow out' part, thought it meant something wasn't working any longer.

My Keurig machine is over 8 yrs. old. I use your cleaning method with vinegar. I only use distilled water to make my 1 large cup coffee a day.
Everyone I know has replaced theirs once, or more, except me. This method works. Jeanne
I’ve had my Keurig machine since 2012 and also have used only distilled water in it and it is still going strong!
JeanneMarie68 same! Everyone I know has had to replace theirs once or more. While mine is practically an antique and still works like new. The key is to only use demineralized water- no matter what!
Joan Wistinghausen I had to replace my first one after five years. But I cleaned it regularly. It works, but it does not guarantee long life. Like any device, sometimes it is just luck.
I think I spoke too soon. Mine died today - it stopped hearing water. Fortunately, I had a Keurig 2.0 that I got a great deal on about three years ago just waiting to replace it.
Thanks for watching the show and sharing about your Keurig machines. 👍
I use a kitchen scrub buddy foam sponge with a handle (The one with the round head) to get the gunk out of the area under the cup you popped out at 3:51. That area gets filthy too. Small pipe cleaners or those tiny straw cleaning pipettes work in lieu of a paperclip. Also, don't forget to turn off the machine before you remove the water container from the machine. You run the risk of tripping the internal safety switch. I learned this from Keurig. Great video!
Good to know, thanks for sharing your tips! And thanks for watching, I appreciate it!
Made my morning coffee great again ! Just brought my Keurig back to new condition after watching this at midnight, Wait til my wife makes coffee in the morning and sees how great it runs ! Thanks !

I thought my coffee maker was finished.....until I saw and tried your helpful tips . It worked PERFECTLY. Thank you
WooHoo! That’s great news. I am so glad your coffee maker turned out great. 🖐 🤗
The best advice is to just buy a percolator!! Easiest coffee pot to clean and the coffee is great too!!

Angela you are amazing!!! I've learned so much from you.. everything from depression to cleaning my coffee machine. You really are amazing!!!
Thank you so much for yoour kind words, I appreciate it!
The small cup that pops out and holds the coffee pods actually comes apart into two separate parts and should be separated to clean too. Just twist to turn and it unlocks. Also run a q-tip inside the cup to get between the ridges to removes the coffee grunge that builds up. :)
Thank you for sharing these tips : )
i did that and now can't get it back in HELP! Please! thank you ;(
You just have to keep twisting it back and forth until it pops down back in place. It will find its little notch eventually and snap back in.
How do you change the filter in the Keurig K Compact
Thx 😊
Using water that has gone through a reverse osmosis filter system takes out much of the minerals that cause the scale buildup. Most groceries stores sell this water in bulk. We have found that there is no scale buildup on the Keurig as that is the only water we use. We do have to clean the parts of the machine where the coffee get processed and exits the machine. Nice video thanks for the advice.
Thank you for your feedback and thanks for watching. 🙂
Thanks for this video, you get right to the point and offer helpful tips. I watched a few videos before yours that had loud music and a bunch of chit chat, yours was very professional.
You're welcome! And thank you so much for your feedback. 😊

@@joannemarques8397 why?
Clean & Shiny coffee makers are such a delight to see first thing in the morning. :)
Yes they are! Thanks for watching the video!
After reading and watching every thin I could find on the internet my problem was solved ! It was suggested to get a can of compressed air and spray it into the vent that was pouring my water back into the reservoir . So I held the can very tight to fit the hole in the rubber vent and sprayed a few times . That loosened what ever was blocking the tubing and solved the problem ! Then I did the vinegar and water descaling to give the Keu
Kurig a little extra TLC and now it works like a charm .
The tubing can be clogged by mineral deposits in the water. Thanks for sharing your solution. I've never tried that before. Good to know. :-)
Angela Brown 😀
I drink the most coffee at work so I am the designated Keurig machine cleaner. I simply brew using pure vinegar and then several cycles of water but now I'll give it a more thorough cleaning.
That's great! Give the tips a try and let me know what you think. Thanks for watching!
Very good video and easy to understand. But you forgot a thing: You unplugged the machine by pulling the cord. This could, with rime, break wires internally and eventually prevent the machine from working. If it breaks partially, the cord could overheat and cause a fire hazard. So, NEVER pull the cord. Pull the plug !
You are so right! Good eye and thanks for the reminder!
Yes, I always pull by the 🔌 but I do get lazy and pull the cord sometimes.
There are a lot of different Keurig machines, which descale differently. I do happen to have one of these as well, which is different from the Supreme, so I am glad to have found this video. And the the 15 minutes sitting inside the coffee maker is a great idea. Thanks for that one, RoosterShooter.
Thanks for the info!
Now I have no excuse for not doing mine! Thanks Angela!
The bottom of the water tank has a small valve that can get clogged. Remember to scrub it with the vinegar and press it up over the sink to see if it needs a paper clip to remove minerals. The one leading into the machine can also get dust or pet hair in it, which is why I use a pitcher to pour water into the reservoir instead of removing it to fill. There is also a bottom needle that pierces the cup which needs a paper clip cleaning
Thanks for the tip! 🤗
Since the tank never fully empties, you should at least dump out the water if it has been sitting there a few days. Mine smells moldy if I don't do that. I have been to houses where they never ever remove the tank, and there is brown slime growing in the tank that affects the flavor of the coffee.
I love the word "icky." Great informative video!
Just started having problems with my Keurig and your video showed up. I think my iPad listens to me. Great job on the video. I now come to you for all my cleaning needs.
Hahaha...I think all our electronics listen and know our thoughts. But good to know, thanks for watching!
If you sprinkle some baking soda in the sink, not only do you clean the drains and disposal, you can see if there are any bubbles, there is still trace vinegar.
Thanks for sharing this tip!
The small dental brushes that go between teeth are great for getting spaces like where you used the paper clip.
Thank you for sharing your tip. And thanks for watching the video. 🙂

If your WalMart or neighborhood grocery store has a water jug filling station, use the filtered water from there. I only use that water in my Keurig. My grandmother gave me her old (2yrs) Keurig about 6 years ago. She said it wasn't working right and my aunts bought her a new one. I brought it home and did what Angela just did in this video and I clean it but never have mineral build up. I do run vinegar through it about every six months. It is about 8 years now. And no signs of wearing out!
BrandyLyn, Thanks so much for leaving a comment about your Keurig and how well it is still working. 👍
For home owners: if you occasionally run a cup of hot water, or hit rinse button to yor cup, then toss. That flushes it so it doesn't clog. Also remove kcup when done. Dont leave it in there. We had a problem with it clogging. Doesnt clog now.
Thank you for sharing your tips!

LOL. Thanks. As a business owner I appreciate efficiency and effectiveness as well. Our business motto is "Work Smart Not Hard". And that requires constant common sense. When hiring employees I set up three to four triggers during the interview that alert me if the potential hire has common sense. If they do, I can work with them.

Yes, the cleaning doesn't take long, but - whoa - rinsing the vinegar mixture out of the machine until no trace of vinegar took a long time and I'm sure you're right, it took a couple gallons of water. A slow process. I feel better sensing that the internal components are cleaner, but I couldn't detect any changes to that effect.
The secret is using bottled (or filtered) water in your Keurig for all your coffee. If you use tap water there tend to be traces of minerals, iron, sulfur, manganese, whatever is in your water where you live and that can cause a sediment build up that the vinegar will break down.
omg thank you ! i was unaware that the funnel peice was removable. rest has been done ev 3 months, makes sense why it still tastes bad.

I have the exact same model as shown in the video. Mine is 6 yrs old and I use nothing but distilled water. It has no mineral additives and I've never had an issue with my machine.
That's great! Thank you for taking the time to comment.
Drs. Say no to distilled for drinking.
But hey, what do they know?
2:00 Only two types of water filtration or purification systems can remove minerals from water- they are distillation and reverse osmosis. Most all bottled water contains minerals or even added minerals for flavor. Distilled water does not contain minerals.
Thank you for sharing this information👍
You can put the machine in the sink sans the removable parts, lift the lid, spray everything down with 409 or equivalent, and rinse it off with the sink sprayer being careful not to get the LCD or touchscreen wet. works great and quick. Won't hurt electronics if you don't soak the screen.
Thanks for the tip. What do you run through the machine to clean out the internal parts of the machine or are you just talking about cleaning the outside of it?
NICE video very good.
Thank you very much! :-)
I use litmus paper to test the water to make sure all the vinegar is gone.
NICE! Great way to do this. :-)
Mine is different than the one you are cleaning. All I have is buttons on side and round thing catch coffee drips still clean the way you doing
Glad it was still helpful! 😊
Thank you ahhh yes you rock
Thank you so much. I appreciate your vote of confidence. 😍
I do this once a month - but that's with only 3 people using it. I fill the tank with 1/2 water, 1/2 vinegar. Run it through 3 FULL tanks with the vinegar, clean the tank and the pod container and run through 2 full tanks to make sure all of the vinegar has gone through. You'll know if there's still vinegar in the machine because any dairy that you put in your coffee will curdle. Also, we use the reusable pods and buy cans of coffee. I put the pods and the pod holder in a cup and pour the cycled vinegar water over them to clean/soak.
Kudos to you!🙌 Thanks for sharing your cleaning routine. 😊
Interestingly Keurig told me to only use white vinegar I do clean my Keurig like you do as well🤔The removal of water lines is very important to do I only hand wash my Keurig and it does makes a better clean smooth cup of water
Great tip. Thanks for sharing. :-)
I found it hard to clean the water reservoir by hand so ran it through the dishwasher with no problem.
Oh, good to know. Thanks for sharing!
This is great if we have the same model of Keurig. I was stunned that you told people to use bottled water in their Keurigs, that is so bad for the environment! I use a Zero Water pitcher for coffee, pets, drinking, etc., and that works really well - no mineral build up. Thanks for the video - looking forward to watching many more!
Great tip! Thank you for your feedback and thanks for watching.
Hi I have a question I have the exact coffee maker n for some reason I’m just getting a half off cup of water I don’t know what to do.I’m trying clean it but
no luck 🙏🙏🙏
The piece that holds the Kcup comes apart too for cleaning.
Good to know!
I liked how you get right to it without too much talk. My only question is that you specified purchasing an OXO kitchen cleaning brush, but then you didn’t use it in the video ... what is it for?
The OXO Deep Cleaning Brushes amzn.to/333590D I use for everything. On a Keurig, I would use it to clean the floor of the water tray, the inside of the drip tray, and the inside of the cup or pod holder.
Can I use apple cider vinegar?
Thank’s ..👏👏👏👏
You’re welcome. 😊
After watching this video,
This is way to much work an maintenance to keep up,
As I know this is a great coffee maker,
But is not for me,
Thank you for all you information on it.
God bless you 🙏.
The big secret to a Keurig coffee machine that is virtually maintenance free - is to use filtered or distilled water in it. Once you remove the minerals from the water you don't have any sediment building up around the inner workings of the unit.
Thank you! Will this work for descaling?
The vinegar helps with the descaling. Thanks for watching my video : )
