    When I put the vinegar and water in the reservoir, I will actually hit "brew" as if making coffee. When a bit of the vinegar finally reaches my cup, I lift the lever so that it stops everything and now all the hot vinegar water is inside the internal tubing. I let it sit for 15. Then, I put the lever back down so it continues to brew and empty into my cup. Gives more time in the internal mechanisms to really remove the mineral deposits.

    An important note. It's essential that you allow the vinegar and water solution to sit INSIDE the Coffee maker for a minimum of 15 minutes prior to running another cycle. That does not mean the "Water Reservoir", but rather, the inside tank of the coffee maker that heats the water up. We have extremely hard water where we live, and the vinegar/water solution must stay inside the machine, on the heating element, for a minimum of 15 minutes before flushing the rest of the solution through. Allowing it to sit enables the vinegar to break down the deposits on the element and in the lines.

    I use a kitchen scrub buddy foam sponge with a handle (The one with the round head) to get the gunk out of the area under the cup you popped out at 3:51. That area gets filthy too. Small pipe cleaners or those tiny straw cleaning pipettes work in lieu of a paperclip. Also, don't forget to turn off the machine before you remove the water container from the machine. You run the risk of tripping the internal safety switch. I learned this from Keurig. Great video!

    The small cup that pops out and holds the coffee pods actually comes apart into two separate parts and should be separated to clean too. Just twist to turn and it unlocks. Also run a q-tip inside the cup to get between the ridges to removes the coffee grunge that builds up. :)

    Using water that has gone through a reverse osmosis filter system takes out much of the minerals that cause the scale buildup. Most groceries stores sell this water in bulk. We have found that there is no scale buildup on the Keurig as that is the only water we use. We do have to clean the parts of the machine where the coffee get processed and exits the machine. Nice video thanks for the advice.

    Very good video and easy to understand. But you forgot a thing: You unplugged the machine by pulling the cord. This could, with rime, break wires internally and eventually prevent the machine from working. If it breaks partially, the cord could overheat and cause a fire hazard. So, NEVER pull the cord. Pull the plug !

    The bottom of the water tank has a small valve that can get clogged. Remember to scrub it with the vinegar and press it up over the sink to see if it needs a paper clip to remove minerals. The one leading into the machine can also get dust or pet hair in it, which is why I use a pitcher to pour water into the reservoir instead of removing it to fill. There is also a bottom needle that pierces the cup which needs a paper clip cleaning

      Since the tank never fully empties, you should at least dump out the water if it has been sitting there a few days. Mine smells moldy if I don't do that. I have been to houses where they never ever remove the tank, and there is brown slime growing in the tank that affects the flavor of the coffee.

    If your WalMart or neighborhood grocery store has a water jug filling station, use the filtered water from there. I only use that water in my Keurig. My grandmother gave me her old (2yrs) Keurig about 6 years ago. She said it wasn't working right and my aunts bought her a new one. I brought it home and did what Angela just did in this video and I clean it but never have mineral build up. I do run vinegar through it about every six months. It is about 8 years now. LOL. Thanks. As a business owner I appreciate efficiency and effectiveness as well. Our business motto is "Work Smart Not Hard". And that requires constant common sense. When hiring employees I set up three to four triggers during the interview that alert me if the potential hire has common sense. If they do, I can work with them.

    Yes, the cleaning doesn't take long, but - whoa - rinsing the vinegar mixture out of the machine until no trace of vinegar took a long time and I'm sure you're right, it took a couple gallons of water. A slow process. I feel better sensing that the internal components are cleaner, but I couldn't detect any changes to that effect.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  3 года назад +2

      The secret is using bottled (or filtered) water in your Keurig for all your coffee. If you use tap water there tend to be traces of minerals, iron, sulfur, manganese, whatever is in your water where you live and that can cause a sediment build up that the vinegar will break down.

  • @Mike1614b
    @Mike1614b 3 месяца назад

    2:00 Only two types of water filtration or purification systems can remove minerals from water- they are distillation and reverse osmosis. Most all bottled water contains minerals or even added minerals for flavor. Distilled water does not contain minerals.

    You can put the machine in the sink sans the removable parts, lift the lid, spray everything down with 409 or equivalent, and rinse it off with the sink sprayer being careful not to get the LCD or touchscreen wet. works great and quick. Won't hurt electronics if you don't soak the screen.

    I do this once a month - but that's with only 3 people using it. I fill the tank with 1/2 water, 1/2 vinegar. Run it through 3 FULL tanks with the vinegar, clean the tank and the pod container and run through 2 full tanks to make sure all of the vinegar has gone through. You'll know if there's still vinegar in the machine because any dairy that you put in your coffee will curdle. Also, we use the reusable pods and buy cans of coffee. I put the pods and the pod holder in a cup and pour the cycled vinegar water over them to clean/soak.

      The big secret to a Keurig coffee machine that is virtually maintenance free - is to use filtered or distilled water in it. Once you remove the minerals from the water you don't have any sediment building up around the inner workings of the unit.
