- There are so many different Keurig machines out there these days that the cleaning instructions can differ slightly from unit to unit. In this video I show you the exact way I have been cleaning my K-Mini Plus both inside and out for the past 9-10 months.
These are a few obvious points made in this video but there's also a couple ninja tips to keep the inside clear of bacteria and mineral buildup.

Thank you. Your simple descaling method with vinegar saved my Keurig when the previous descaling method with vinegar I was using was not working. Now I have delicious coffee from my Keurig K-Mini Plus again.
Very thorough… and meditative watching this. Thank you for your service to humanity.

Yes. I agree. I love how he does not seem like he is any rush to explain it.
The cup that you pop out at 3:20 and said the bottom won't come off, the bottom comes off easily if you unscrew it. Turn it to the left and it will come off. Also, I use my sink sprayer and spray hot water into the space under the cup that you just removed. Hold it over the sink and all of the gunk will wash out.
Good to know this , I use this machine two or three times every couple days , I will try the vinegar in my wife’s water pick and use it as a mini pressure washer.
Thank you for pointing out the little filter in the water reservoir! I just cleaned mine with a stiff plastic-bristle brush, and then ran a vinegar and two water cycles, back to back, with no problems. 😊👏
I really appreciate the way you explained the whole process! I love it! I have the same machine and this is super useful! Thank you!
His descaling tip is much simpler than others. Only requires the vinegar to sit as long as you like before you dispense it and rinse with water after. He basically skipped the first vinegar rinse, and did not waste or reuse vinegar.
Many thanks. Just got machine for myself and read the manual too. But seeing and watching you actually doing it was great. 👍
All of my 4 previous Keurigs have splattered coffee but I've found that putting a small spoon into the cup as it brews deflects the mess and reduces splatters by 95%. Position the spoon so that the drips hit the handle and it will keep your counters clean!
I usually start with just hot water for a few runs before I do anything with cleaning to knock out any loose stuff so the cleaning pod can maximize
Wow thanks! I am OCD AND UFFF THIS RELEASES MY STRESS.
This solution absolutely does work. I used to put cream and sugar in the cup before I would brew coffee and it would make a real splatter mess.
But just like you, I also found out that putting a spoon in the cup deflected the stream and almost eliminated the splatter completely.
Being Canadian I fixed the splattering by sitting my mug on a hockey puck. It has enough grip to hold it and is the perfect height for my mug. You're welcome, eh!
This is a baristas hack😅
Best video I’ve consulted for cleaning my keurig mini. 10/10. Ty!
Directions from my model show diagram of the bottom half of the pod holder separate, in order to clean needle. It doesnt tell you how to separate the pod holder but we squeezed the area near bottom half (at the openings in the plastic) & it came apart easily! Very helpful video!! Thank you!!!
Very helpful! I cleaned my keurig mini. It looks brand new now 😊
Thank you. Clear and to the point. My coffee machine is working again. Excellent video. Kudos to you!!!!
If you use your finger and push up on the bottom where the liquid comes out, the K-Cup holder will pop right out. That's how I always remove mine. As for the bottom section of the K-Cup holder, it does come apart, quite easily as a matter of fact. You just need to pull and gently twist at the same time to separate it. Once it is separated, you can then hold the upper section in your hand, and then take a skinny paper clip that has been straightened out or a long safety pin or even a long round toothpick, and stick it through the small plastic tube like structure you will see at the bottom, and jam it straight through so that it comes out of the end where the needle is to remove any potential coffee grounds that may be stuck in there. After you are finished, you can reconnect the upper and lower section, but make sure it reconnects properly. When you push it back together, you will need to gently twist it until you feel it lock in to place.
Another way to remove the k cup/lower needle holder is to reach below the machine and push up. It should come off fairly quickly!
Also running 1-2 no k-cup water brews tends to dislodge the majority of the grounds from the needle before they dry. It has the added benefit of reducing flavor transfer and coffee oil build up!
Great demo! You helped me a lot! Thank you! Stay well! 🇺🇸
Awesome tutorials and very helpful to me. I watched a different video you made on why coffee tastes different and that was also very informative. I was ready to toss it out. Thank you! Now I’m going to go clean mine out now :)
Very informative video. Trying this method now! Thanks in advance. 😊
Thanks for this video, I picked up some tips. I notice you mentioned you would use a knife/paper towel to clean parts of it. These machines are designed knowing that water will be flowing through 90% of them. It is OK to take your Keurig to the sink and spray water on it. I wouldn’t submerge it or anything, but spraying that upper chamber is absolutely fine. I do it all the time.
Same
Thanks so much for the video! I picked one of these up today Black Friday at Target for $50 (The regular version, not the Plus one) Glad to see you using vinegar. I've heard Keurig may deny your warranty if you use vinegar but the official video on their websites shows you how to descale using white vinegar in addition to their official descaling solution, and no where in the manual (At least for mine) does it say to specifically not use vinegar.
If you ask baristas at any coffee shop what they use to clean their coffee equipment, it more then likely is vinegar, and not silly cleaning solutions sold at insane markups. Just like plumbers will typically use baking soda + vinegar to clean/declog a sink and not Drano, Liquid Plumr or other store bought solutions.
Very helpful video. Thanks for posting!
Awesome. Thanks. Very specific and helpful. I just cleaned mine. It's looking 👍 great.
I found using one of those small smoothie straws scrubbers gets in that top needle well. You have to rinse it off frequently, but there’s actually a little knob on the end of my scrubber that fits perfectly inside the holes of the needle. I poke each hole, rinse, then use the bristles to gently scrub. This works on the small metal filter too. Just be gentle so you don’t accident pop it out.
Thank you for your video, cause on Keurig's web site, they don't talk about vinegar and i think they should have, cause it's a good way to clean and destroy germs. For your information, i was able to separate the pod holder without breaking anything :) so it's easier to clean it. Sorry my english isn't perfect. Thank you again.
I will try your descaling tip to see if it will bring my Keurig back to life. There are different instructions in descaling Keurig K-Mini Plus with Vinegar. Some people do the Vinegar rinse once before they run it through again to let it sit. Also people have mixed the vinegar with water or poured the rinsed vinegar back in to run, and let sit. Also people have recommended to let it sit for 30 minutes or no more than an hour.
Thanks, I didn’t know some of those parts were detachable! I used a dental flossing brush to get into the bottom needle and was surprised to see how much gunk came out!
Excellent video 😊
Thank you for teaching us, GOD bless you
I buy a 12-pack of the Keurig rinse pods and run one every Friday. Since I'm on the municipal water system, I don't need to de-scale very often (every 3 months or so).
fill your device with zero filtered water or use mineral free bottled water, scaling doesn't happen with proper filtered water. Saves your machine and is healthier for you.
Thanks you for the tip of holding button down for 5 seconds .I had a hard time trying to take some water out after it sucked all in the internal container. I put a bit more than recommended so it wasn’t going on the cycle
So much better than Keurig’s website videos!
Thanks for our help! 👍
Thanks for your helpful review!
Thank you for this and I also have the "ALL OUT OF'' grocery list pad I love it lol
Man am I happy I came across your videos. I have this model and never thought about that reservoir! Yuk.
Def helps a lot never thought of using vinegar on it! 🤯genius!! Lol!!. Thanks for this insight!.
I am glad I drink tea and not coffee. You did this really well.
Very very helpful!!! Thanks!
This was amazing thank you. I learned something!!
Yes the bottom of the podholder does snap off so it can be cleaned.
This helped! Thank you so much for this!
To open the lower compartment, you twist the lower portion and then pull it apart.
Super helpful, thanks!
Thank you! This video was very helpful. I was ready to give up I’m my Keurig 😅
I use the plastic reusable cups and can choose and add my own choice of coffee. They need cleaning about once a month due to oils building up and clogging the screens. I put them in a bowl with white vinegar, as you did, and then place the bowl in the sink and add about a tablespoon of baking soda. It will react and foam immediately. As soon as the foaming stops they are clean (less than a minute) pour out the solution and rinse the cup. It is like new. This can be done with any small part that detaches and can be put in a bowl.
This was very helpful
Thank you ! Saved me from getting another one at this moment
This is a saved video for me !
Great video very helpful
Thank you so much ....very informative
Thank you for your informative video. I think I may try to use my hand held steamer to clean the inside.
Thank you for the information.
Very informative video.
Got a mini plus OTW and wanted to know how to properly care for the machine.
Good advice.
A new subscriber here.
I ordered the Mini Plus off eBay it should arrive tomorrow will clean it thoroughly before I use it thanks for all your information concerning the Keurig MINI Plus and thanks to those who have made comments that have made things much easier thank you so much
Thank you, this was so helpful! Our Keurig is back up and running 😅
Thank you sir!! I just got a mini
For Christmas so I’ve just thought about cleaning. The instructions that came weren’t very detailed.
i was looking up videos because i got my first keurig today and i cant get the funnel off the pod-needle top either! its driving me nuts but im glad i watched still you gave some great tips thank you, Dude who looks too much like Ebon Moss-Bachrack .
Great tips!! Will b cleaning mine today actually this morning a d drink my delicious coffee from my corelle stove top coffee pot yay lol
Wow thank you, did know what scaling was
5:30 you can use sponge swab. thanks for the tips!
This is the best presentation on cleaning a Keurig Mini that I've seen. I've followed everything you said to do. I have to buy vinegar still, but I did use Keurig Descaling Solution, but vinegar is much less expensive. At times during your description of cleaning process of those peepholes in the top, and my running for Qtips, I thought, maybe it's easier to just buy coffee at Dunkin' Donuts! Just kidding.
Thank you!!
Howdy. Great ,K-Channel' ! I have *both* the K-Classic/K-50 and the K-Select Keurig models. How do I do your "pump-out-brewing-chamber-only" on *my* models, just like you do, circa 13:00m on this vid with your K-Mini-Plus unit? I was unaware this kind of cleanse could be done, other than to power the whole brew-cycle numerous (ugh) times. Always grateful for help and suggestions.
Use “pressured air” to blow out the tiny debris from the k-cup areas. The one you use for your computer keyboard. 😉 👌🏼 works great!
Thank you very much!
great video thank you
Thank you, that help.
Thanks for the vid!
Not a problem, hope it was helpful and thanks for your comment!
Thanks you so much 👍🏽👍🏽
Using a sponge paint brush you can get from the dollar store helps with getting into those tough areas.
If you increase the playback speed 2x it sounds like he’s already had 12 cups of coffee, thank you for this! I didn’t know the water tank detaches✅
THANK YOU UGH
Very nice tutorial. Any way to get inside where the pump lines meet the upper needles?
Pro tip: put a coaster on the cup platform. That way no coffee stains will get onto the striated platform or into the drip tray and it's super easy to wipe off.
Can you demonstrate this descaling process with the K-duo? Do you have to get the special descaling solution or can you use vinegar? The instructions on the descaling solution bottle don't tell you to pause the machine at any time to keep the solution sitting in the machine.
Yes that little thing came out it looks like the size of a eye contact I couldn’t get I back in properly but it’s in ...so if you lose this little part will it still work properly
3:20 - You can pop out the lower needle pod easily by pushing your finger up from the bottom hole, (see 5:20).
Ty! This really helped me. Take care and God bless!😇😊👼
Exactly the kind of feedback I like to get! :D Glad it was helpful for you and others!
Quick tip for that inner compartment. Get some pipe cleaners, bend them to where you can reach from under the hole
Thank you...
No problem Fe!
After finishing the vinegar soak is it okay that I turned it on to get the vinegar out instead of holding the button down to empty it, which I didn't see until it was too late?
Thanks for sharing! Is there a trick to getting the water reservoir off from the machine? Mine doesn't just life off like that :(
Good
How do you detach the water holder on the top? Thanks so much for this video! Very informative :)
The original k mini without the strong brew button does not have a detachable water reservoir.
Should I use the charcoal filter even if I use filtered water?
How do you take off the reservoir? Mine seems to be really stuck.
Update to add: apparently only k mini plus has the removable reservoir 🤷🏽♀️
@TopOff at @8:38 you say "with no Keurig branded machines you can remove the top part" ... which machines are those?
hello, If you have filtered water, can you use that instead of vinegar? Very helpful! I never thought of a qtip thank you I got the standard mini (in the same color as yours)
The vinegar acts as a light duty descaler and disinfectant. Even putting filtered water in the reservoir it will still slowly collect dust and things every time you open the lid and the internal heating reservoir is inaccessible so it probably never or rarely dries, the vinegar helps to minimize bacterial growth inside the machine even if you don't think you are getting calcification. BTW, I love that baby blue color and the wife does too. It's a good one.
Try to clean it with a water pik tooth brush sprayer. Like a tiny pressure washer, unplugged.
fantastic idea!
Liike and new subscriber
A baby bottle brush might work too!
Another tip, you can remove the rubber piece around the top needle. Mine was really dirty. Easier to clean needle that way too
I was thinking myself it looked removeable but afraid to try lol
I've had my machine for 4 years and never did any of this. But then again, I've been wearing the same pair of disposable contacts for a solid 6 months or more.
This is a very helpful video thank you
I'm glad you found it helpful Richard!
I just subbed in another video and I want to do a deep cleaning on mine
What a pita, I was going to get a K maker but nada.
Mine stopped working, it lights up but after pressing the k-button “Nothing” not even a sound. Any ideas of what’s my problem? Appreciate it.
Great video, very helpful.
I just got the descale message on my Keurig K-Supreme Plus. I know how to descale, just wondering if there’s a reset to get rid of the descale message on the display.
Thanks!!
I came here for that very reason.
The two compartments does come apart easily.
How do you get that tiny reuseable cup in this unit? I have been trying all weekend! Do you have to buy a different filter part for the little reusable pod? Needle will not match up
Twist it until it falls into place it will look like it's to high but as long as the needle matches up with the indents on bottom of the reusable it's good to go
I ended up removing the entire old one and found another that fits for ground coffee!!!! Yay!!!!😃
The part that fits the holder cant be removed? I didnt placr my pod holder correctly and the whole inside is full of coffee powder but struggling to reach in to clean it.
I watched the video not because I have a Keurig maker but I am going to get one in a couple of months (I will be using it for hot chocolate not coffee)
A baby bottle brush works perfect it comes with a nipple brush that works on the hard to reach areas 😊
