I am 5f tall 110lb, been training for around 4 years. I actually cannot really agree on the flexibility parts. But I believe one of the benefits that small person has is its approach and mindset. For me, first, it was really easy for me to learn to focus on techniques rather than strength/ or other physical mean.Because, I was just always small and weak, so I was always aware of my physical limitation which allows me to approach bjj in terms of techniques and timings. For 4 years, I have witnessed people who quit, demotivated, and left. Mostly because it was hard for physically dominating people to acknowledge and accept that their physical capability do not play a huge role as techniques. So I always got my butt kicked by other big people(even who train less than a year), but it never bother me. Secondly, because I was small, it sometimes it is difficult for big opponent to break my base(being heavy, compact, no space), though I am 110lb, I can be 110lb bowling ball. Rolling with big people gets a bit easier, when I started focus on couple of goals.1. use your body parts that are not your HANDS. I started use my legs, head, shoulder, chin or other in order to develop more weapon. - If your weapon is small or weak, you can make more then. :)2. (if you know how to get your balance and are aware of positioning) Escape and recovery first, submission and takedown next. Always escape. escape, escape escape. Escape will improve your recovery as well. And Escaping often give you chance for counter-attack.Because, small people, or just small me, being caught by bigger people can be advantageous situation waiting for counter-attack or something creative. - Find space and use your small but numerous weapons!3. I cannot think of now but, everyone happy and safe jujit su!
What's your name? (한수희) Your comment is gold. I also want to add this, "It's not easy to be a smaller person in the gym, but the small people learning BJJ has the most important responsibility." This is because BJJ is a martial art that gives the dream of "a smaller person can protect themselves from a bigger person." For a big person, they always had strength, but when they see a much smaller person submit them, they either have a bad ego reaction, or happiness, because it shows them that BJJ works in real life. A smaller person submitting them (the bigger person) was proof to them that BJJ works. They are hooked for life. 한수희, question: Do you feel like you roll harder with people same size and much lighter (like a feather) with bigger people? Thanks for your comment and I hope to have a chance to roll with you in the future. 고맙습니다!
@@inneraesthetics Oh! Hello! Thank you for the comment as well. You can call me Han. Well for me, lighter people is always easy. Hmm maybe because I have not rolled with one who is higher belt - purple, Brown, Black. But when I roll with lighter people I always try to attempt something creative. Like counter-attack, transition than maintaining dominant position.
@@inneraesthetics roll with big people is always hard but it is easy for me when the (big) opponent use lots of strength than technique, I try to do more of basic. I am in 20, but my toe and fingers are really bad Lol. Try not to get injured!. So big people, I may focus on basic and try some leg submission than fancy stuff. For me, up to 160 is okey, but over 160 ib, I really do my alllll the best in both strength and techniques, and mindset as well(try to survive). Any comment I am super welcome!
Kinda lost me right away bro, when you said short people are more flexible than tall people, without illustrating or backing that up in any way. I don't see any obvious correlation between shortness and flexibility, maybe you could expand on why you find that to be the case.
I don't believe there's any correlation between height and flexibility. To elaborate more I would say that based on my experience people with a higher body mass index tend to be less flexible than people with a lower body mass index. I don't have any data to support such an idea and I've seen examples where that was not the case but overall that has been what I have personally seen. "Smaller" may have been a poor choice of words, I can see how that may be a bit ambiguous. Thanks for the feedback.
He clear this up later in the video. Working on technique will improve flexibility via movement of the limbs. Additionally, It's important to have good technique if you're small. So usually if you're training right, a smaller person should be flexible due to drilling/training/stretching all to hone done their technique
Are you still doing BJJ? In 4'11" also, 2.5 months in and loving it. I get beat most of the time of course being small and a newb, but I subbed a newcomer a couple times who had 50lbs on me so it does go to show with even a little bit of knowledge there is an advantage at least in a self defense situation where the other person doesn't know bjj.
I'm like 165cm and 45kg and I always have to train with bigger guys (30kg weight difference) and I can agree on everything except the weight difference is used in my opponents advantage because on top I get swept a lot of times or grips or holding on to something is way harder than for my opponent
Thats the easiest person to fight, just block one, get inside and do a takedown, then proceed to absolutely fucking destroy that person, ANY submission will work no problem.
I’m 5’2” and my 6’ friend is way more flexible than me. We are both females. I do think little people have some advantages, but this list was… a bit too optimistic.
BlockAhs, you instructor probably calls it differently than him, or he might call it differently than what your used to called a Knee slice. Just to clarify for you.

I USE MY HEAD TOO :D
Peter기훈 dude this comment is mind changing. Thanks
I always had problems with triangles. I could never get them around someone.
However latching my dwarf self on a leg or neck worked great.

Was this filmed on a calculator?
I hadn't realized it was out of focus at the time.

Has coach ever been in a real fight? How do you fight someone who just swings crazy in a street fight?
Thats the easiest person to fight, just block one, get inside and do a takedown, then proceed to absolutely fucking destroy that person, ANY submission will work no problem.
