Jay Kayla yup! That’s me 🙋🏾♀️I have differing strand thickness and differing densities in my hair. Makes it incredibly hard to retain length. Some parts of my hair retain length with no problem while other parts be looking at me like “ma’am?!” Lol. Ppl love my hair when I wear wash n gos and compliment me all the time; I love it too. But, unfortunately it’s not healthy for my hair and after FIVE years natural I finally have to choose health over style and begin to rock twists. I feel good about it though, I feel like I’m choosing me. 🥰
gorlllll I'm rocking mini twist right now! i go back to school next week. Usually I would neverrrrrr wear mini twists to school but this year, I'm going with hair health instead of comfort zone lol
Gooo girl!!! I used to be the same way. I cut my hair now. But when I was growing it out, the same people who were laughing/talking about my short twists, were the same people who were shocked 😮 when my hair was healthy and at bra strap length. Also, if it’s your style, wear head wraps sometimes 💕
I’m so glad you explained density to thickness . When I try and tell people they have fine hair as a black person they never believe me. Especially by types !!!
I realized that I had fine hair when I noticed how thick my daughter’s braids were compared to mine. She has more density and thickness. I was like now I got it!
It’s true. It’s clear when you look at Asian guys who have short cut hair. Unlike white guys where the hair lays down, their hair tends to sort of just stick out, you can see their scalp, even though their hair is straight and the contrast between the super dark black hair and lighter (usually) skin. You can see how thick their stands are. I noticed this one time and realised that
@@ArianaWoods112 Strands: Coarse, Medium/Normal, Fine Density: Thick, Medium/Normal, Thin Coarse is a terminology for strand thickness, so a person can't have a strand that can be described as Coarse and thin at the same time. It is often mistaken as a terminology for how texture feels.
4b/c med density fine hair. I can’t add any other hair to my hair at all. Learned that the hard way. 🤦🏾♀️😂 I used to wear kanekalon extensions all the time in high school. Soooo... long story short my edges are back now, and I won’t add any hair of any kind to my own. I’m just working with what I got. 🤷🏾♀️
SAME! Senegalese twists pulled out my hair! My hair is just now getting thicker and growing back healthy. Thanks to biotin, chebe powder, castor oil and natural twists.
This is a great video. We have the same texture but mine is very fine. It grows but gosh I wish for thickness. Y'all don't know the real struggle unless you're a type 4 fine hair girl lol. The breakage is real. All I can do is moisturize and leave it alone. Styling doesn't look great like thick hair does.
Chisom Anyanwu, I feel you, I also have very fine texture 4c hair but I have noticed that Shea Moisture Curl Enhance Smoothie makes my hair look thicker when I wear it in a puff or fro, also feel soft and keeps my hair from locking or tangling as much when left in two-strand twists.
This comment section is so wholesome, this is what I've been trying to get people on for years! Also, for twists and braids use a light gel on the ends!! Makes take down much easier and prevents those single strand knots.
Wearing individual two strand twists have literally saved my crown/back of my hair. I have fine strands and medium density, and was always trying to wear my hair out and be cute. I've been struggling with retaining length for YEARS, and when I finally got my stubborn ass to just keep my hair in twists all week and give my poor hair a break, I saw a lot less breakage and more moisture/softness in my hair. Thank you for confirming I'm doing the right thing! Tell Bear I say hi and I hope you get some down time
I got so excited when you said bantu knots! I have no idea why they are so slept on. They're beautiful to me, especially if you add some hair jewelry. Everyone just wanna do knot-outs for the manufactured curls while blind to the beauty of the actual knots... As for me though, I live in small/mini twists with braided roots.
since I dyed my 4c hair green I can tell it’s growing “realistically” by the now protruding black roots but my ends are just always going through it so I never really get to enjoy my growth...thanks for the tips..I’ll be sure to do a much fitting protective hairstyle now✨
When I cut off my hair the first thing I said is I better figure this out before it grows. I purchase the book called the science of black hair I started evaluating my shedding and figuring out what type of hair I have from the first inch when I was in my early twenties. I have changed a lot since then and I really want to do what's best for my hair because anything you do today it will affect tomorrow. Our hair is literally there every day so if you damage it it will just be damaged and it takes a long time to repair so I'd rather just not hurt it anymore not risk it any more and just let it Thrive for once. My family thinks I'm trying to grow locks because I don't really comb or brush but I use my hands instead. Finally my hair reaches past my shoulders and past my nose. Some of us couldn't take those hair practices that were forced upon us as kids. Perms weaves and heat tools are not for everybody
Fine hair, high desnity type 4b natural here! The best thing for me was mini twist!!!!! It grew my hair sooo much, I wear them under my wigs as well since my hair is in the awkward stage. I can easily take my wig off and moisturize them at home with no worries.
xtel folaj hey lovely, make smaller parts for a fuller look! I make my parts as small as box braids, they last me a good month with me slowly restwisting everything on the 2nd week. I dont retwist all in one day tho, I kinda spread it out through the 2nd week just because of work and life, i have no time to sit for another 8 hours to do my hair. Hope this helps
You better preach for us fine haired gals! I learned just a few years ago that I had to give up with the added hair. As cute as it is it was killing my hair. I noticed that my hair thrives so much more when I wear wigs, clip-ins (short), or headwraps. I also recently over the last year started to wear mini braids with no added hair and wow! My hair is much healthier since letting go of the added hair. My hair is so much happier on its own.
I love Bantu knots , I use magnetic rollers to stretch sometimes to prevent my roots from matting and webbing. Everybody just loves my knots and I am just a regular degular empress 😝
Girrrl, you made me discover my hair is not thick but fine. It helps me so much because my braids always stays fine and on my friends the braids look very full and I didn't understand why. Thank you girlll. I need more protective styles from you!! ❤️
Great message here. I have fine hair and have learned the hard way about wearing extensions. Never again. I cant wear wigs either because my skin does not agree with whatever they make wigs from - even while wearing a wig cap. So...low manipulation styles are the win for me. Just installed mini braids and hoping for quiet no pressure or tension growth.
Yep, fine hair here. I am learning the hard way that large section individual twists (less root tension) is working better than braids (higher root tension). Great insightful video!
I deff agree with your advice. I learned the hard way when my edges started thinning over the years. I now primarily do low manipulative and protective hairstyles. Mini twist are my primary go through! I do incorporate small buns when I style my mini twist. If I do incorporate high buns on loose hair I ensure that it’s very lose.
Chazzz you can't charge and advise people on their hair when you are only an expert on your hair. You can't put all Asians and African Americans in a box! I love your channel but I think you would benefit from beauty school. Having RUclips subs does not make you an expert. Don't tell people you can solve their problems!
I watched a million natural hair videos and all the information they give is very repetitive but this right here is gold I thank you and appreciate you for this
Yes! I subbed and box braids finally a fine haired RUclipsd that wears box plaits with no extensions. This is my number way of retaining length as a 4c!!!!
So glad you explained this. I have thick hair density and thin strands. I always wondered why my hair didn’t look as thick as some other 4c hair naturals when I would put it in plats. Even when wearing braids outs, I always felt like I had a lot of hair but it never looked voluminous. Makes so much sense now.
Cami B, I hear you, my hair is growing everywhere but my edges. I have been using JBCO and only two twisting or single braiding my hair with NO added hair, nothing helps.
I primarily wear wigs with braids similar to your or flat twists up under them.I do braids only in the summer when it is too hot for wigs. But the suggestions you made definitely make sense in terms of trying them out to see what works best for you and your hair type.
I did mini twists in my hair once and it didn’t look bad I was so self conscious and it took long for me to do. I guess I have to try it again lol. I loved this video!💖
You are a light! Please keep doing what you do. You encourage me to continue my natural hair journey in confidence. Thank you for the thin hair advice.
Im 4abc, medium density, low/med porosity and I think medium thickness. I do crochet individual faux locs but I install them myself. There are several youtubers who can teach yall installation but I absolutely make sure I dont braid too tight, never put gel on my edges, and take care of the hair that grows. Surprisingly, when I take my hair down it's still moisturized! If you do faux styles correctly, your hair will definitely grow
Wow! Thanks so much for breaking it dowwwwnn!! Im transitioning, 12 months post relaxer and just took out my protective style twists. They were down my back and waayy too tight!! I have medium density, thin strand hair. Took out the twists and my right side edges just gone girl! Im so mad! But yeh I get it, for real now! Did a 12 month mini chop and will continue to deep condition regularly and regrow my thin edges back! Thanks again! Wont do that again smdh! Great information!
😂😂😂 My hair is the same... I be so mad, trying to do the hairstyles in videos. My daughters laugh at the pictures I send them of what my hair is supposed to look like vs. how my hair actually looks.
crochet styles literally saaaaved my hair as long as I keep up with washing and oiling it while it's still up...for some reason the sew ins completely wrecked my shit! my strands are also super fine
Thank you for this. I am chronicling my hair journey and may post at some point but I never hear anyone talk about thin hair. I have thin hair and breakage on my ends. Using Rice Water only helped me to create a hair routine (yep, I saw your last video with that quote) and now I love taking care of my hair. I love braids and I learned how to leave out the edges to get the job done. Thanks again for including us thin haired broke-edges naturals! (Or transitioning naturals) :)
I love your channel, protective styles took me out my twa phase so fast girl thank u sooooo much, the only problem I have is my edges.... those high puffs are from the devil lol. I'm now trying out wigs...crochet wigs... thanks again keep up the good work. " any advice for my edges??? My name is Ashley Thompson this is my mom's account
Gloria Thompson, I am dealing with the same problem, my hair will grow everywhere but my edges and I only wear two-strand twists or braids, my own hair no add in hair. I also use JBCO for a year now and although it has started to come back in not much.
@@mateya4650, I have been using JBCO for over a year every day on my edges and nothing. My edges have started to come back but after a year, I think I shouldn't still look bald at the front of my head lol. Not sure what I'm doing wrong and I only wear my hair in two-strand twist or braid and I don't put it up only tuck my ends in a bun at the back of my head to keep my ends tucked away.
I just love the energy and life you young women bring to these channels. Loving my thick full 4c-p hair except how much product I need to use and the time to detangle. Its worth it though and has to be done in order to keep hair on my head eventhough there is lots and lots of it. Still have to treat this hair with kid gloves, kindness and love or it will disappear. You are absolutely correct on that very low manipulation of the hair on a daily basis and keeping your scalp clean. Those who are having difficulty with their hair seem to be changing styles every day - a BIG NO NO and not keeping the scalps clean and hair moisturized enough. Keeps those hands out of it though. Love your hair/ love yourself.
You spit facts, sis. I am Team Thick Hair, and you were on point about Bantu knots and pin-and-tuck updos. My students swear that I wear wigs because I switch styles on them so much and my styles are just my hair. When I wear braids, I just do individual in the front and cornrow the back and nobody ever knows it's not a full head of braids.
Now I know why I didn't like how the bantu knots looked on me! I finally learned that I have fine hair, but thick density!! I don't know why I stopped checking you out(but I let a lot of U Tubers go at one point), but I'll check on you more often now!! You just described exactly what I did to my own hair to get out of twa jail!! I will definitely be checking you out more often!!

Im so glad I found your channel. someone with hair that is like mine!! I have been natural for a LONG time and my hair only grew when I had my son...my hair was at its healthiest. Then I had my daugeter and my hair just went down hill from there on top of the braids that I had this year that broke my hair off so BAD, I look like I did when I first went natural. Yes, my bantu knots are tiny!!!! which is why I never wear them ha!
I really dig ur styles of informative presentations and I love "bear". Aldo ur make up I'd imprecable.. not too much (overkill) itd just right and perfect. YA GOT GOOD GENES.👌
My hair is super coarse and high density. There was a time where everyone was afraid of heat damage and I kept looking at my hair and never experienced it after I ever straightened it🤷🏽♀️
I went to check my hair brush to see if my strands were thick, and my biracial daughter’s hair compared to mine was like comparing spaghetti noodles to udon noodles.😂 I have thick hair strands, extremely dense hair. I used to have trouble even parting my hair and consistently broke combs and brushes when I was young. 😂 I have some hair loss in the crown due to seborrheic dermatitis and folliculitis, but even so when my hair is in a fro, you can’t see it. That’s how thick my hair is lol. My protective hairstyle fave is big bantu knots or regular twists. It worked when I was a child, it works now.
Thankfully I knew my hair wasn’t THICK no matter how many people told me I did. My sister has thick hair & that beast is something else. I have medium hair 🤙🏾 Thanks Chaz! 🖤
I have fine hair and my Dad has been telling me this for YEARS to stop wearing all that heavy hair lol, thankfully a few years back I started to do my own crochet and never exceeded 3 packs of hair, I'd get made fun of, but ya girl has HEALTHY hair on her HEAD lol. Nowadays I'm doing the individuals with no hair added: but it DOES take confidence to pull off. Thanks for the relevant info for us with fine hair.
I left my hair in mini braids for the summer and left it for two months,,,, I GOT EDGES NOW

Can you make a video about growing edges?
I’m working on it!!!
I’m working on it!!!
Oil, oil, and less friction
Cami B, I hear you, my hair is growing everywhere but my edges. I have been using JBCO and only two twisting or single braiding my hair with NO added hair, nothing helps.
@@barbarapeller maybe you need more internally. Water, biotin, vitamins, etc. Or could be genetics
Everything you said was on point!!!! Thick strand hair girl over here.
😹😹😹
That flat twist style was 🔥🔥🔥
Right!!!
Yay! Congratulations on reaching 100K!!!💃❤💋💋💋
Thank you!!!
Nah fr my Bantu knots be looking like sun dried turds 😅😂
😹😹😹
Monty monty yooooo I wasn’t ready
☠️☠️☠️
😆😆😆
Bruh 😭
Watching this again but I really love the fact that you break this down based on fine natural hair/thick natural hair.
I primarily wear wigs with braids similar to your or flat twists up under them.I do braids only in the summer when it is too hot for wigs. But the suggestions you made definitely make sense in terms of trying them out to see what works best for you and your hair type.
YES!!! Just a suggestion if it works keep it, if it doesn’t throw it out!
I did mini twists in my hair once and it didn’t look bad I was so self conscious and it took long for me to do. I guess I have to try it again lol. I loved this video!💖
Thank you and keep trying, check out the girl I shouted out in the video.
You are a light! Please keep doing what you do. You encourage me to continue my natural hair journey in confidence. Thank you for the thin hair advice.
Hey Boo!!
I have the same hair texture as you!! Thanks for all your help Pretty
And no problem!!!
Hey if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. 😹 PREACH!
No problem!!!!
OMG 😲 Girl I always wondered why the hell my braids be so skinny I be doing 1in parts and my plats just be looking malnourished.
😂😂😂 My hair is the same... I be so mad, trying to do the hairstyles in videos. My daughters laugh at the pictures I send them of what my hair is supposed to look like vs. how my hair actually looks.
I have the same issues and the only style that works is a wash n go
Same...☹
When my friend did bantu knots on me for the first time I felt like I looked like a PinHead💀💀
😹😹😹 looking just like Cynthia from rugrats because that’s me.
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭💀
I definitely have thin low density hair and of course I wish it was thick. I love people with thick hair. Your info is dead on.
crochet styles literally saaaaved my hair as long as I keep up with washing and oiling it while it's still up...for some reason the sew ins completely wrecked my shit! my strands are also super fine
Ayyye if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!!!!
Same !
Yea your using the wrong protective styles if your edges are receding. I talked about it towards the end of the video.
Gloria Thompson you should try Jamaican black castor oil
Yeahhh we definitely have the same type of hair including the curl pattern i will forever be subscribed
YAY THANK YOU!!!
Congrats Chazzzisawesome on your new website! Thanks for Sharing the tips ma'am! I'm going to check out your new website!!
AWWW THANK YOU!!!
@@Chazzzisawesome you're welcome ma'am!!
Missed you guys...love bear and the content is so awesome
Awww thank you!!! 😹😹😹
I have fine hair strands and this heat and humidity is not my friend!! I love you for breaking this down!!!
Facts!!!!
My hair is definitely thick. Bantu knots and twists are very easy on my hair. Thx for the tips. I now understand why my hair is ok by herself. 😌👌🏾
Yesss!!!!
As a licensed cosmetologist, I enjoy watching natural hair videos because thats what I specialize in. Your videos content is on point. I enjoy your presentation because of your eye contact. It gives viewers a sense of one on one. Kudos to you.
This video made me a subscriber...thank you so much for giving all the info that you did for free.. I have not heard a better explanation or just a flat out dont do it on my fine hair... I hope to see real growth soon!!!
I have a bob hair braids and I get so many compliments about my hair. Rock it
YES!!!
I needed this tough love today, thanks.
No problem!!!
I'm just going through your old videos cause tmr is my wash day😂😂 New Sub😊😊❤
Awww snaps thank you!
I love your attitude and being so honest. Thanks for sharing your vedio because I wanted that❤ God Bless 🙌You!
Yarn is bomb for crotchet styles, it's light and it doesn't tug, but definitely too much of anything isn't good!!! I loved this video thanks...
I miss 🐻
You are the realest chazz
I have both the fine and the thick ones on different sides of my head but more of the fine
😹😹😹😹
I really dig ur styles of informative presentations and I love "bear". Aldo ur make up I'd imprecable.. not too much (overkill) itd just right and perfect. YA GOT GOOD GENES.👌
Aww thank you and everyone has good genes. It’s what makes you you 😹

Thank you for this video.... One of the most smartest natural hair video on youtube! 😊
Yes!! Spitting science!! I have 2A hair but just subscribed 🙌🏻🤷🏻♀️ Great video
She looked like lil mama when the vid first started. Her lip gloss and she is so pretty
You really came in clutch today! I needed this 💗
I’m glad I could help!!!
Finally I found someone who's hair is like mine! 🤩
From this video, I realized I have thin strands with medium density. Thanks so much
My hair is super coarse and high density. There was a time where everyone was afraid of heat damage and I kept looking at my hair and never experienced it after I ever straightened it🤷🏽♀️
SAME!!!
I went to check my hair brush to see if my strands were thick, and my biracial daughter’s hair compared to mine was like comparing spaghetti noodles to udon noodles.😂
I have thick hair strands, extremely dense hair.
😹😹😹 strands are important!
Thankfully I knew my hair wasn’t THICK no matter how many people told me I did. My sister has thick hair & that beast is something else. I have medium hair 🤙🏾 Thanks Chaz! 🖤
Great informative video. I like learning about hair. Especially coily and kinky hair types. You and your box braids are beautiful 😍.
