  • Officer McLauchlan Ephrata Police, (509) 754-2491. We cannot allow another Kelly Thomas killing. On my way home I stopped to monitor. Instead of helping the man the officer uses his truck block the view while he abuses him.

    Snail mail me: Po Box 56 Ephrata WA 98823
    Camera was low mis-focused but you can see the them on the left at 0:18 just before the officer attacked. From my higher vantage I could clearly see the victim stumbling and doing nothing wrong, the officer then threw him down in front of the truck. What you see is me jumping out of the truck at that point and running over, questioning the officer. I did request public records but the city claims they have no dash or body video. I did talk to a family member who said the man came out OK He was not arrested and was simply taken to the hospital.
    When we intervene and shame officers for their abuse, they often alter their behavior. Love you neighbor and don't just stand by and let them be abused. Be firm and always film, only be careful how close you get. I have a bit more flexibility in this community because I have trained the police to know me.
    I will not be engaging in debates with those shameless enough to defend this officer. His actions are without excuse. Despite wishing I had another view, the condition of the man and the officers casual admissions verify the what happened here.

    EPD Arrested me last week for filming... ruclips.net/video/QGYVt_UgAb0/видео.html
    We must not allow another Kelly Thomas killing. If this officer had stopped in the road to help a man it would be fine. Instead he uses his truck block the view of a public road while he abuses him. Officer McLauchlan, Ephrata Police, (509) 754-2491. I did request public records but the city claims they have no dash or bodycam video.

    He was not a suspect or charged with any crime. he was not charged are taken to jail after this.

      Why would you presume that the "mentally ill man who is probably trying to self harm"? Also, "He blocked the road to PROTECT the guy who got arrested." You don't know this to be true. It may be but saying it doesn't make it so.
      "Does this guy need medication... perhaps its urgent that he gets him back to the hospital." Mr Seim asked the cop if the man needed to visit the hospital because he had been thrown to the ground. He refused to answer. There's your context.
      " How long did the officer try to talk this guy down before he had to go hands on?" That's a grossly pejorative question. "Talk him down"? You know as much as the rest of us about why the cop threw this man to the ground, yet you assume that he had attempted to "talk this guy down" beforehand.
      It's easy to be calm after the fact.
      Mr Seim is to be congratulated for intervening in this matter.

    • @SetantaCovenant
      @SetantaCovenant 6 лет назад +6

      Let's not be silly here. You did *not* create an opposing narrative. RUclips comment revision is childish and pointless.
      "Hes detaining a mentally ill man who is *probably* trying to self harm." / "He blocked the road *to PROTECT* the guy who got arrested." / "How long did the officer try to *talk this guy down* before he had to go hands on?"
      None of these statements are you playing Devil's Advocate. Or making a point about jumping to conclusions. They are statements of support for the cop.
      I believe that Mr Seim was right to intervene in this situation.
      Would I have approached the officer differently?
      Quite probably.
      Do I think it best to look the other way if I see what looks like wrongdoing?
      No.
      Would I have intervened if it had been three armed thugs and not a cop?
      No. Other than calling the cops when it was safe to do so.
      Despite the plethora of videos of errant cops, I believe that police officers are mostly trustworthy individuals. Do they sometimes exceed their remit and abuse their power?
      Unfortunately, yes. And should be challenged when they have done so.
      This incident looked, to me, like it was a case in point.
      Based, more on the officer's responses than Mr Heim's questions.
      But I think that we can both agree that cops do a tough job that few of us would fathom.
      They have my respect. But not unquestioning loyalty.
      Have a good one.

    • @SetantaCovenant
      @SetantaCovenant 6 лет назад +1

      *Seim does not like police.* Context? I don't know Mr Seim from Adam. Maybe he doesn't like police. Maybe he does but doesn't like police who abuse their authority? I dunno. He certainly posts videos of police in action. Shouldn't he?
      The officer's responses would indicate that he knows Mr Seim, yet he is not belligerent in his responses to him. This would suggest that he does not view Mr Seim as a cop hater.
      You're correct in that we don't know the setting for this encounter. But we can see that the officer is physically unhurt, that he is calm, and that the detained gentleman is subdued. His pants are torn but, otherwise, he appears unhurt. So we can work out from this that it's unlikely that there was a major altercation.
      Your proposal that we do not film police confrontations because doing so may (or may not) escalate the situation is bizarre. We shouldn't film what looks to us like police abusing people because it might make things worse? So, we should look the other way? Do nothing? Or perhaps later, report the encounter? And when asked if we have any evidence to back up out claim that a police officer may have acted inappropriately, such as video evidence, we say, "Well no, I didn't want to escalate the situation." If you're lucky, you won't be thrown to the ground (I'm sorry, I meant to say *coerce into custody*) and then cuffed.
      As far as your ER room, construction worker, and McDonald's employee thing goes, no I generally wouldn't rush into any of their areas of work. I might reconsider, however, if I saw someone being mistreated. That's generally how things go. People pretty much keep to themselves unless they believe that they are witnessing somebody being mistreated. Then they act. If they have their thinking caps on, and their phone handy, they might choose to capture the encounter on video, 'cos, y'know, a video is better than a thousand words, 'n' all.
      I can say with hand on heart that I have never had a negative encounter with any police officer. I have the greatest respect for the police. I think that they do a really difficult job for very little money. They have my respect. They are entrusted with a lot of power over us. The majority of them work within the confines of that power. They are good people. Sometimes, though, there are those who abuse that power and I believe that it falls on all of us to hold them to task when they do so, and when it is safe for us to do so. They besmirch the reputation of the majority. They need to be exposed. I don't know if this particular encounter was one such case. But Mr Seim was right to film it.
      Good cops have nothing to fear from being filmed in these situation. The filming was not intrusive - Mr Seim kept his distance - and nobody gave any indication of being upset at being filmed.
      As far as the comments section goes, it is what it is. Some sided with Mr Seim, some with the police officer. We all have our own opinion of the content of the video. In essence, we can agree, we can disagree. In this particular case, I'm hoping that we can agree to disagree?

      It is so easy to blame the Police with no reason, or clear evidence. It's obvious if this man escaped from a mental institution that he would be considered dangerous, this is why they called the police and not the ambulance or some other association to find him. He is obviously sick, however his sickness may hurt children or others, this is the reason, I am assuming, that he was institutionalised to begin with.
      I think you have your own agenda and it has nothing to do with helping people. Your comments are tantamount to inciting unrest and disorder. All of which dose not help communities and the freedom you and I enjoy

He knew he ass was grass when that camera was recording his wicked carcass, then all of a sudden at the shout of action, camera " is" rolling, he becomes a servant of good deeds and saves the mentality ill man from himself walking however on his way!!!! True and for good reason, but also when you accelerate at a high rate of speed or when you hit the brakes hard the seat belts lock you in the upright position which can make it nearly impossible to try and duck 🦆 out of the way in a hostile situation , once you're outta dodge than the seat belt can go on, this situation could've easily turned hostile because Mr Gavin is clearly not a stable person lol 😂

      Tamara Weber he could be the risen son of god. Or a preacher, or a retired school teacher. He could also be a child molester or a murderer. So before you decide to judge what the officer did maybe we need to know the rest of the answers. We also didn't see him throw the guy to the ground or what happened before that. If the cop was wrong than he needs to be charged but you can't charge someone off of a nit wits video that doesn't show half of the confrontation.

      Justaguyyoutubin we know the full story. A cop doesn't need to drop a mentally ill person on the ground harshly, an you defending him isn't making the situation NY better. The guy explained what happened in the video, and it's a FULL video for you to watch, get you act like people don't know what happened. You're part of the problem man

    • @greenfloyd5114
      @greenfloyd5114 6 лет назад

      @greenfloyd5114 6 лет назад

      Justaguyyoutubin detaining your brother is one thing to be grateful for but tackling him? Sure thing live with that. As far as us not knowing the context you seem to defend one side fairly hard, and even though the man's clothing was ripped I guess it's utterly ridiculous of me to "assume" he's been tossed around a bit.

    • @greenfloyd5114
      @greenfloyd5114 6 лет назад

      Justaguyyoutubin whatever dude obviously no one but you is experienced with mentally ill people in their family or in general seeing how you're on every other thread talking to people as if they're stupid for finding the officer's treatment a tad harsh. You're just a guy with an opinion like anyone else.

    • @greenfloyd5114
      @greenfloyd5114 6 лет назад

      Justaguyyoutubin you're right. Your assumptions that the officer could only have possibly been in the right somehow isn't pretending at all. Anyways this shit seems hardly debatable based on opinion and I won't be condescended to about how what I THINK is wrong, i feel I've got far better things to do with my time than endlessly arguing on RUclips and I would hope the same for you. Most of the truly brave citizens aren’t joining the police force anymore, so we’re left with the cowards who act tough behind the badge for no reason at all. Like the officer who ran from the school shooting, thank goodness there was a surveillance camera to catch him in the act because if not, he would have been regarded as a hero. With that being said, there are some brave police officers out there, who are out there trying to serve and protect!
    Bless my cousin who was one of the brave ones who was killed as retaliation for the killing of an unarmed citizen. He was randomly targeted while in uniform. Please remember, cowardly cops come in all shades, shapes and sizes.

      Justaguyyoutubin I just want to set the record straight: I am not anti-police. I am anti to the current form of law enforcement we have today. For far too long I have believed that the police have the ability to “adjust” the law, to serve it in any form they see fit. And what bothers me most is the fact that when one police officer does wrong, there are VERY few officers who will stand up for what it is right and come forward about the abuses perpetrated by their fellow officers. A lot of officers would say they wouldn’t rat on their “brother”. But in my opinion, this makes those officers and equally responsible under the law as an accomplice. So the next time you see a video of 12 cops, 5 of which are beating the shit out of a suspect, don’t just castrate the 5 cops who are clearly to blame. Ask yourself: What about the other 7? Why didn’t they come forward? Why weren’t those cops stopping the others? THEN… tell me it’s just a spoiled few in the bunch

I have never called 911 and never will I’m sure they would be no help . When seconds count the cops are minutes away good luck with that I would call the fire department before I call the cops ever

    There's more to the story here, Gavin - did you witness the Police Officer walk up to him and throw the man down without cause, or did you first catch sight of him in the middle of him laying the guy out? If it was the former, you need to be clear about that so people who see this can understand what happened before you were able to get the Camera out and contact this Dept. and hold them accountable.
    If it is the latter, who knows what happened before you arrived, and he might have been justified by blocking the road if the individual was in the middle of it.

If you watch this man’s other videos he chases police using his scanner. That is why the police officer knew this guys name.

    A Police officer is one who acts in accordance with the laws of the land, but a cop is a thug who uses the law as a covering to do what is unlawful and evil! Did this man act in accordance with the law or use it as a covering? Gavin said he saw him just throw the man down who apparently was not offering any resistance. So each person must decide if they were in a similar situation and assuming you were verbally disagreeing with the cop, and the cop suddenly threw you to the ground and cuffed you. Would you be alright with such treatment? To what extent will people accept abuses as acceptable across the board? Each one of you the viewer must decide!

      Jakob Jones, You address me about my comment through an assumption of logic having been applied, yet you never asked whether what I stated was just my personal opinion or if I was even using a method of logical reasoning with regards to this subject content. I assumed you were joking so replied in kind, but then you sent a new comment insulting me for being lighthearted about the issue. Who do you think you are to speak to another person with such disrespect? I made a deduction based on my own understanding of the issue and never asked for your's or anyone else's position on the matter logical or not! Let me be clear to you, I do not care what you think or have to say moving forward except to say you are never to reply to me again regarding this matter or I will report you to the governing authorities for this website, for being abusive, is that clear? Enjoy being logical.
