Of all the videos and tutorials that I've seen, this is the best by far!!! Straight forward and without any unnecessary drive swaps or anything like that. Got home assistant up and running on Dell Optiplex in about 10 mins. I fiddled with a broken mouse must longer than that. :) Thank you so much.
Thank you!
I really try to keep it straight and to the point.
THANK YOU! This was so simple the way you explained and edited things to make it easy. I've never done this sort of thing, and got Ubuntu running then HAOS running faster than i have ever gotten Windows installed and setup which i've been using for 30 years. Brilliant!
I’m glad you found it helpful, thank you for your feedback!
Quick, simple & straight forward - you helped me moving an existing USB installation to the internal SSD - Thanks!
Glad it worked out for you!
Best methode over internet !
Perfectly work !
Simple and complete !
Thank you, I’m glad you found it helpful!
I watched several videos to get this set up, this one along with your documentation was the best by far. thank you.
Glad it worked for you!
Fantastic guide. It worked like a charm. Many thanks.
Thanks, Great it worked out for you!
finaly someone that made it easy to install haos. great work man
Thanks, I’m glad you found it helpful!
Thanks for your work. I am a beginner. I installed on NUC7. Quickly and without problems.
I’m glad you found it helpful,
Enjoy your first steps with home assistant :)
Love your content!
This did it. After two days of screwing around a process that worked. Thanks Much.😜
Awesome! I'm glad I could help. :)
Muchas gracias. Me fue muy util. Excelente contenido
De nada, glad you found it helpful!
thank you for detailed video. bless you
Glad it was helpful!
I really appreciate the help. I tried several times to get this to work using other peoples videos, and yours was the only one that worked. Before this I have been using a pi with a SD card, and then I moved up to a solid state drive, but my system was getting very big and that started to have problems, So I decided to get a Dell Optiplex 3050 and I spent 2 days trying to get this to work, and nothing was working until I made it here. So now I'm just trying to work out some small issues. I guess the only weird thing about this new set up is that there doesn't seem to be a way to turn off the computer other than long pressing the physical button on the computer, or I guess pulling out the power cord, but hopefully I won't need to turn it off. Thanks for the detailed help.
Glad it worked for you Ron!
I know this type of video's can become stale pretty quickly, so I check every few days to ensure that everything is working as it should.
As for shutting down your computer, you can use SSH with the following command: "ha host shutdown"
You can watch this video where I demonstrate how to install an SSH client, starting at 0:45:

much thanks for the guide. @4:40 is there a way to run home assistant without wired network, since i dont have a port on my laptop?
Yes it's possible, you can get more details in the HA forum.
This link might help:
community.home-assistant.io/t/configure-wifi-connection/157201/12
This actually worked in like 5 minutes, with the updated install script on ubuntu. Wasted 3 hours on an outdated tutorial yesterday.
I’m glad you found it helpful!
I try to make sure everything works properly on my tutorials as they can get outdated pretty fast.
I also have a NUC but I hate that thing only having USB 3.0 ports which causing issue with my USB Zigbee coordinator, even with all those USB 2.0 extensions or USB 2.0 Hub with external power. I bought off a used 7th gen Dell 3050 micro which had 2 ports of USB 2.0 goodness, plug th Zigbee coordinator there without any extension whatsoever and it worked immediately. I think even the Dell 3070 Micro still also have that USB 2.0 ports
Thank you for sharing that valuable information! Which Zigbee coordinator are you currently using?
After set up all the configurations and installthe add-ons, Is there any way to cupy HA file from the pc to save it in a safe place as a ready image ?
Not a ready image, but you can use backups: Settings > System > Backups
There you can backup anything important
Couldnt you just flash HA to a usb from main pc, and install via bios by choosing boot option? Seems much more simple. Either way, good video!
I wish it was possible :)
Glad you found it helpful!
It is not possible to install haos directly from USB, it stays forever at swap haos.
Sorry google translate wasn't really helpful here ;/
@@SimplySmartHouse Not really sure why i have put it in in Norwegian😅 I think this question is posted in the wrong video. Sorry
@21espeland 😂no worries
Thanks for great video, I followed your recommended steps and I installed the Home assistant on my HP laptop , however to access the software, I had to use another device. Here is my question, can I install a browser on same laptop and access the Home Assistant ?
Glad you found it helpful!
Regarding your question, not by using this method,
But you can achieve that by installing Home Assistant on a Windows machine for example,
You can check my video about that: ruclips.net/video/jcxH9KwCRQE/видео.html

Is it possible to install a copy of my current HA to the SSD?
It's possible to backup your HA data, and then restore it in your new setup, that's the more common approach anyway.
Good video. Didn’t work for me as it errors when trying to flash from URL. Seems to be a permission error.
Did you try to download the file to your computer and then importing it?
Great video, thanks
Is there a way to migrate an existing HA from a Rasberry Pi to an intel based pc?
Many thanks
Thanks, I’m glad you found it helpful!
Yes, it should be fairly simple to create a backup from your pi and load it on your Intel PC,
Go to settings->system->backups->create full backup
Then you can use that file at the onboarding stage of your Intel.
@@SimplySmartHouse great, many thanks
The issue in all installation types is that you cannot make any change to "/" or "/etc". so your HA is running on a 100% fixed OS.
There are other installation types that offer that flexibility, Docker for example.
I tried installing it on a ThinClient but I keep getting the problem that it won't flash to the SSD in the system. I think I have everything correct in the boot menu. Maybe you have another tip?
Can you describe the exact problem?
Is it while using balena etcher?
The problem was in the operating system. the ThinClient was provisioned with Debian 12. I installed a new image and followed your tutorial. Now it works great.
Great, glad it worked for you.
Can this method replace a Tuya Bluetooth Gateway?
You might need to add a Bluetooth proxy to the setup, but yes Home Assistant has a great Bluetooth support, regarding Tuya support you should check this out:
github.com/PlusPlus-ua/ha_tuya_ble
MAn.. How to connect the HA via Wifi?
There are some great guides on the HA forum.
I will add it to my future video ideas.
At the start the voice track is mono, on the left channel only. Is driving me crazy
Sorry about that. I am still learning the ropes, but I will make sure to fix it for future videos :)
Thanks
Many thanks from Belgium for your video. All start fine until I come near the end: I see HAOS installing and I get the Logo and the prompt ha> After you say type http address to the browser where is it. Heeeelp! 🙂😞 Do hou have un dual boot???
I don’t use dual boot.
Do you see any ip address on the HA screen?
You should open the browser on a different device.
@@SimplySmartHouse Okey; fine!!!!!
Sorry to come back again. I try a lot of time but not possible to connect to HAOS. when the command ha after installing HAOS I can find the right command to connect it to the WiFi network .....
If you want to connect to WiFi from the command line, you should look into: community.home-assistant.io/t/guide-connecting-pi-with-home-assistant-os-to-wifi-or-other-networking-changes/98768
But it’s much easier to connect to a wired connection and set Wi-Fi from there.
i installed it like your way..but icant get my windows back😓
Yes this is permanent, you can install it on windows using VMware, you can check my video about that.
Salut home assistant installé sur un ssd depuis un autre ordinateur. Sa démarre puis après plus rien reste bloqué

Non pas de VM ni de docker
Not sure i got it, but make sure you are connected to the internet by cable, you should get an IP for your instance.

4:11 fuck is this !!? disk dev/sdb Ubuntu 22.04...
and system drive other arbitrary disk !??
balena flash fail.
err : EBUSY:resource busy or locked, open '/dev/sda'
Sounds like the disk was in use, running Ubuntu from USB should prevent that.
