I spent the majority of my childhood in the NC mountains. (Shoutout to Bruce Drysdale Elementary School in Hendersonville). My aging parents are way up Ski Mountain in Blowing Rock, NC. No power yet, but their water is back on. Neighbors cleared the road and folks can get out if need be. Black Mountain Yarn Shop is closed and they can't even get in to the shop yet to assess the damage. They are such an amazing resource in the fiber world, I hope they can recover! Prayers to all up in the hollers that haven't been contacted yet!

Hi Devin. So glad you had a good weekend away and the birthdays went well. Gigi looks great in the Ferrari jacket. The sweater that you are working on looks warm and cosy. Just the thing for the cooler weather. I would love to join your sock project but unfortunately can't justify the expense of the yarn and the postage to the UK when I already have an abundance of sock yarn. So I will watch your progress and pull yarn from my stash and knit the patterns that you choose. 😊 My socks will be in different colours but will vicariously give me the pleasure of taking part. 🇬🇧

Hi Devin! I have the feeling you had many cups of coffee today - you seemed very wired. I’m excited about your sock club and definitely want to participate. Also, I wanted to say that I have the Summer Lee book and I took it to Staples where they can insert spiral binding so the book can lat flat when you’re using it. That makes it very convenient. I just started knitting socks and Summer’s book is so inspirational.

The coffee shop scented balm is delightful and it really smells like a cozy coffee shop!!!!! I ordered a bunch immediately, because I love love love the balm (it's just so good) and fall scents are the best! I just realized that even though autumn isn't my overall favorite season, it IS my favorite for all the scents! Favorite scent season😅 I know how you feel Devin, about being torn between wips and new project dreams. I was reorganizing my yarn and WIPs this past week and as part of the process I piled my projects in one spot (they're usually scattered around the house).... the pile kept getting bigger and bigger, I stopped counting at 12 wips ....... most of them are smaller projects which I could finish if I focused! : there's a Flux cowl, a windowpane cowl, Sophie scarf, a scarf started in the most gorgeous Peace Rose colorway from my LYS that is stalled because now I think the yarn actually needs to be a sweater but I've got 8in x 15in of scarf already knit (hard to frog!), three socks, 2 blankets, Diggory Tee that is stalled because its summertime knitting and we're heading into sweater weather (which is probably why good progress got made on Benedicta, although the acquisition of 6 month old kitten has currently made all yarn related activities slightly perilous) .... I've truly EXCELLED at casting on projects in the past six months. I redistributed the projects back to their homes across the house. And promptly cast on a sweater based on Audrey pattern with a short sleeve modification in dk weight instead of worsted.😂 (gauge switcheroo worksheet is verrrrrry handy!) To be fair I did pick up one of the socks again and finished it yesterday ..... now I just have to knit it's twin to complete the pair.😅 October colorway is gorgeous! When I think of opal, I think of the white ones, not the multicolor bright color stones, so the jewel tones were a complete surprise! Absolutely stunning!

At present I am making lots of progress on my many languishing WIP (yarny and other creativity) as I have Oestoathritis in my hip where activity is painful and I am not doing a lot except sitting and crafting. I will be having surgery in a few weeks. I am thankful I am a creative person as I am feeling productive even though i don't feel like doing anything.

No real damage to my house but my town and surrounding small towns and especially Asheville, is devastating. Thank you for any prayers for our area! 💕 Here's my request: would you have some of the balm in a harvest/cinnamon/cloves/pumpkin scent or something like that? Hi Devin. I’m behind on podcast listening and haven’t listened to this one yet. I want to weigh in on love/hate fall. I’m in Michigan where we have 4 distinct seasons and I’m so happy about that. This time of year I’m usually so done with the heat and I’m ready for crisp air, colorful leaves, college football and sweater weather. This year not so much though. We had a great summer. Im going to miss long days and late sunsets, bountiful produce at the farmers market, flowers and green everything, and time on the water. I’m a little bummed about the weather change this year. I’m not ready for the short days, brown dreariness and lack of sunshine that follows fall.

I think I actually prefer your accidental sleeve modification that made for the smaller puff on the sleeves! I like puffy sleeves but am generally content to admire them on skinny people😅 I'm broad in the shoulders and truly puffy sleeves are not flattering on me. I have to pay attention visually to narrow my neckline/shoulders and accent my hip line to create a visual hourglass, balancing my broad shoulders. And the smaller, daintier puff works really well with the very feminine aesthetic of the sweater. We would love a picture of Gigi wearing it! I vote for a photoshoot! ❤ I cast on Benedicta two weeks ago in Bougie and Fathom and I'm using light color for yoke and transitioning to dark color for bottom, because I'm hoping that will give that visual effect. I'm also planning to adjust the colorwork a bit for same reason. I have an internal debate going right now about exactly how I want to adjust it to keep it completely intact (i love the symbolism) and overall stay as close to the design as possible. This is my first colorwork sweater so I am very realistic about the limits of my ability for making modifications!!! I have already learned that I cannot work on colorwork when I'm tired, I made the silliest mistake on a colorwork row (missed a single contrast color stitch) and figured it out 3 rows and couple days later (I also have a 5 month old kitten who thinks my knitting is a wonderful game, so the knitting gets put away when he needs attention, which has significantly impacted my knitting time😂)..... anyway, I spent a couple days picking it up and putting it down, trying to figure out if I could fix it without tinking 3 rows (nope). Finally, I tinked back 3 rows and redid it, which was definitely the right decision! The colorwork is making sense again! Oops! Kitten just came and found me! (His name is Charlie) Knitting is going in its bag! I think September and River Rock Benedicta is going to be stunning! Perfect fall sweater weather knitting!

Oh Devin, I’m glad you tried the PS (Phosphatidyl serene) but you are right that you need to go up in the amount you eat. The clinical trials found 600 mg to be the effective amount. More doesn’t work better and less didn’t seem to have any noticeable affect. It usually takes 6 weeks or more to notice a difference. So stick with it and here’s hoping it helps you as much as it has helped me. I just passed my 81st trip around the sun and shudder to think how my brain would be functioning now if it had remained on the path it was on several years ago.

Devan, hi, I am a new Netter but I don’t like heavy sweaters and I want to knit everything in fingering weight which is perfect for me in the winter even I just prefer and wear them more if they’re lighter could we ever do the benefit and fingering weight? I am 40 in the bus and I’m bigger in my tummy and hips, but I’m working right now at getting that off but at my age it takes so much longer. I am gonna be 70 next month or in December 1 of December, so that’s why I was thinking cardigan, but it will be my first I have made a tank top and a socks 9 inch circulars getting ready for our socks 1 January. I did buy your beautiful red that you made your sweater out of and I got it in fingering weight because I know I like fingering weight, unfortunately I am a new so it will take me longer and maybe I should do a DK for my sweater. It will be easier and so maybe I just should. I did write down for first sweaters I will look them up. I love petite net garments and maybe I should just size up one size I don’t know, so petite is a good one for first timer. I will check that out. I’m really wanting to make a cardigan, but I’m also wanting to make a pull over. I just need to lose my tummy which I am working on right now so I don’t know I wanna make a sweater. I’m just a little afraid it’s not gonna fit.

Do you know any children who are knit worthy? I'd recommend the flax sweater by tin can knits. It comes in all the sizes from baby to adult. Get some acrylic worsted at a big box craft store and gain some confidence with less effort and a bigger yarn that your preferred yarn.

    • @knittymcpurly1549
      @knittymcpurly1549 6 дней назад

@@LearnedhandknitsThis is good advice! The only thing is that sometimes big box yarn is uninspiring. I started with good yarn because it was inspiring to me. Maybe pick a pattern that you love enough to go for and inspiring yarn and that will be the push that you need! ❤

I too have admired your no-name pattern when you’ve worn it. I wish I were brave enough to “wing it” and try to create something similar. Its shape and fit kind of reminds me of the Pavement sweater by Vera Valimaki, which I have made twice. The neck construction and increases are different, and it doesn’t have puffy sleeves, but the overall look is similar to me. It’s a great pattern.

I can highly recommend Edie Eckman as a reliable tech editor for both knit and crochet. I don’t know what you are looking for as reasonably priced since that is subjective, but I know Edie personally and have for many years. If my current tech editor ever retired I would ask Edie to work with me in a heartbeat

Fall is my favorite and Spring is second favorite. Fall is glorious because of the colors and cooler weather. Spring is just so sweet and pretty. I can see people hating on Winter and Summer, but not on the lovely transition seasons!!! Come on people.

You say there were no fancy people at the Arkansas Yarn Shop retreat but you were teaching a class so YOU were the fancy person!

Oh man so many time St. Anthony has helped me. Tony Tony come around, something is lost and must be found ! What a great podcast and I’m so happy you had a great trip. I hate traveling without my husband because he always knows where we park and I know I can come home to a clean house😉

Hearing all about your weekend was so exciting. Made me even more excited for your retreat❣️🎉 WooHoo 🙌🏻 I have a set or two of the ChiaoGoo 9 inch interchangeable needles. If you use a 2 inch needle point on one end and a 3 inch on the other, it is more comfortable (for me)to knit holding the longer 3 inch needle. I did not discover this on my own. Some sweet knitter shared. Hope your week settles in and you recover from all your retreat fun and travels. Have a great week 😊

You pray to “St Anthony”? Who is that? When I am needing guidance and comfort I pray to my Father or art in Heaven as Jesus taught His believers to pray. Who is St. Anthony?

Retreat sounds so fun!! Scary not finding your car in parking lot though! Thank God for the guy that helped you find it! 🙏🏻
