Congratulations on 200 episodes, Devin! When I saw the Timbo Vest in this episode, I knew that was the garment that I wanted to make with that leftover yarn. With the magic of your Gauge Switcharoo Worksheet, I determined that I should knit size 5 to get size 6. The pattern measures the progress of the vest in rows/rounds. My row gauge was off. Since it’s a top-down construction, I compared my progress to a fleece vest that fits me well. I knit the collar shorter than the pattern (personal preference). When the front and back separated, I weighed the yarn so I could use up all of it equally. I started the contrast colour earlier (than pattern suggests) because I ran out of the 1st colour. The pattern instructs you to continue knitting the front and back sides flat. It’s simple to join in the round. Check your stitch count to continue the broken rib pattern seamlessly. I'll continue until I either run out of yarn or reach the same length as the fleece vest.
Great video❤ I really enjoyed the instructional gauge switcheroo portion of the video. Much easier to understand than I thought and congratulations on your 200th episode 🎉
The SHWH story of the day was funny. 😂 I used to know a knitter who would say, "If someone points out that your socks don't match each other, they're too close to your foot." Seems like that would apply here, too!
🎉🎉🎉🎉 What an awesome accomplishment. Thank you for giving of your time and talents!!! THANK YOU! For going through the Knitty math. I am a new knitter and have had such a hard time with understanding how to do this. I am on my way to your website now to download this magic tool!!!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! 200 episodes, YAY!! Loved the cute dance and the video of Knitty Kat and sister. YES, I buy sooooo many patterns. Just hoping someday to make it, LOL. The gauge lesson was wonderful, thank you, thank you! Love your cowl and everything about this video!!
Congratulations on 200 episodes! Yay! Your color of the month is AMAZING! I can't wait to get mine. The advent is also going to be amazing! Gigi looks amazing in the sweater.
Congratulations on 200! Great to see Julie and Deb! I agree, shaped cowls make all the difference in how they lay. I haven’t made that one yet, but I’d like to.
Hi Devin, good job on explaining your switcheroo worksheet! I love it. I had created something similar for a sweater class I did last year…it’s like magic! It can make some peoples head explode a bit, but when you break it down it’s not bad, right?!
200 podcast and think of everything we have learned. Your little miniature was adorable in her costume. I hope I'm ready to order the sock club and I get in. OK, well you have a great week!
I buy patterns for more reasons than just to knit that pattern. Sometimes I buy them to support a new designer, especially if they are a friend; sometimes if I have an idea and it's the closest I can find - so I will probably make a lot of alterations but won't have to start from scratch; if it has a colorchart or lace I would want to use for something else; if I'm curious about the construction... But yes, sometimes I buy a pattern and then I change my mind before I get to it, and never do knit it. But I like to remind myself that I am investing in the industry that I'm most interested in seeing thrive!
Congratulations on your 200 episode 🎉 can’t wait for sock club also and Dallas Retreat. I used your wonderful worksheet for a cardigan I am knitting. You explain it so well.😄
Hi Devin!! Thank you for the gauge lesson. Here’s what I’ve done (please correct me if this not a good idea): I knit my swatch…get number of stitches per inch….take that number times my desired finished circumference (e.g., 6 stitches/inch x 40” finished circumference = 240)….I then go to the pattern and find the stitch count for the body circumference closest to 240 (after split for sleeves, e.g.)….and that’s the size I choose🤷♀️🙂! What do you think? As always, thank you for all your talent you bring to us! Sandy in Wyoming
Happy 200th episode!!!❤ so happy to be here, especially for the joyful happy dance 🎉 I also have timer set for sign ups for Sock League😂😂😂 Oooooh November colorway is even moodier than I was expecting - so perfect for this time of year. I love it with Thistle..... I'm not really into brown/gold colorways cause I love cool tones (I look good in cool colors and warm colors wash me out, so I happily admire them on other people instead😅), but it's beautiful! I'm picturing a Hipster Hat with a wide brim in Thistle and the body in November. I'm currently gift knitting a Hipster Hat with a brim in a beautiful bronze and body in forest green and I'm so happy with how it's coming out! I may have two color hat schemes on the brain!!!!
Not only do I buy patterns which I may or may not ever end up knitting.... but I also love to buy the yarn for the project and then hoard that as well. I have an entire trunk full of "future projects" which are already beautifully planned and saved digitally as lovely pictures with the yarn and project information..... and now that it's full, instead of just banning myself from this practice I'm considering what other place I could start storing these yarn bundles.
Congratulations on 200 episodes !!! I wanted to clear something up concerning Summer Lee’s response regarding her Mermaid Pattern. I tried this pattern at least 6 months ago. I sent 3 emails to her at times spread over months. I also messaged her on Facebook Messenger but never got a response from her anywhere. When I posted this on Instagram a few knitters had the same experience. I don’t know why she never answered but I was disappointed. I love the Mermaid Pattern and purchased the yarn she used because it is speckled. She recommends NEVER using speckled yarn for patterned socks but for some reason this particular yarn works exceptionally well with this pattern. If you knit this pattern in magic loop it gets tricky (at least for me) when you make the turn. In any event, I attempted this pattern 4 times and finally gave up. I still have the yarn and am thinking of using 9” circulars which I believe will solve the problem. I am still disappointed that Summer Lee seems unreachable for questions. If anyone has reached out to her and got a response I would love to know it. Thank you for all the work you put into your page for changing gauge. Unfortunately, you lost me at 2 + 2 - mathematically challenged 😂. I would love a kit for the Andrea sweater you are making, however, I can’t do mohair. Another great podcast and I’m looking forward to another 200 with you.❤
Sigh…. I understand what you’re saying Pam. This has been going on longer than her moving. That is really unfortunate, and it leaves us knitters to solve the problems on our own. Well, we can do it! It sounds like the 9” circ is the way to go. And if it works, you get ALL the credit. 😂 ❤
I really enjoy your podcast and have even been going back to watch your older ones. I have ordered several times from your shop and was pleased with what I’ve gotten. But today I decided to order two stickers ( the glitter merdog and the it’ll block out) but $7.00 dollars for shipping two stickers? A little much.
Hey Ann! I get it. My shipping cost is designed to incentivize you to toss a skein of yarn in your cart. 😉. But if you just want two stickers and are willing to get them in just an envelope with a stamp, I will refund you $6 of the $7. Just leave me a note when you place your order and I’ll do it for you! 😊
@ I did just receive your November sock set yesterday and I wish I had ordered the stickers at the same time, but alas I didn't. I'll order the stickers again.
I do not know how to count gauge on any stitch pattern other than stockinette. Nobody seems to tell you how to do it. They just say knit in pattern and count gauge. I don't even know how to do it in. Yeah, garter, stitch. I don't know how to count the stitches. Is there a way you could show us how to count the stitches on this little swatch that you have? Is it the garter ridges that you count or the stockinette that you count? I'm probably the only one in the entire knitting world who doesn't know how to count my gauge in anything other than stocking stitch. If there's a pattern that the gauge swatch isn't knit in stockinette I either ignore it or I avoid the pattern altogether and look for something else and I really don't want to do that.
This is why I got 2 Pumpkin Chai balms, I knew it was gonna sell out! Gigi looks gorgeous in the Anne! I laughed at the horror sock story, I can go one worse. Now that I teach beginner knitting and beginner sock knitting at Arkansas Yarn Co I tell people over and over again to occasionally hold your knitting out and REALLY look at it.... Once I was making a sock, I have made many before, I started cuff down, did my Shadow Wrap Heel, knit my foot and at the right spot started knitting.... A HEEL. When do you think I noticed I was knitting a second heel? After I was completely done with it and back to knitting. 🫣 I could not believe I knit 2 heels in one sock without even noticing!
Congratulations Devin! I was also pleased to see Deb, I enjoy Julie’s RUclips channel also.

I think Summer is moving maybe that is why there is a slow response

I am still undecided about participating in the Summer Lee sock KAL, but I found the ebook at my library, so…maybe.
Congrats on your 200th episode! I still owe you an email. I’ve had a week!!
Did you say summer Clinger? I’m a Clinger!
