The ABANDONED Race Series Behind MotoE (It was rubbish)
MotoE has been getting better and better over the years. But did you know it wouldn’t even exist if it weren’t for a failed series that no one talks about.
This series was supposed to revolutionise racing - but instead, it was completely abandoned and forgotten. So what went wrong?

It’s a joke . Way too slow . 10-12 seconds a lap slower . To people who don’t ride and race . You could go to the toilet for a number 2 down at the pub ,have 3 beers walk back home and still have to wait for the scooter with no noise to cross the line if you can keep your eyes open with out falling asleep. Come paired to moto 2 .

I got to see a couple of MotoE sessions at Assen this year. I was quite impressed by the speed of these bikes. It was really cool. I was also pleasantly surprised by the sound from the bike. Yeah you could hear that stupid vacuum cleaner noise. But it was so quiet that you could hear the wind rushing past. That was pretty cool and gave a sense of juist how fast these bikes were going.

MotoE is for me the second most entertaining series. Second only to Moto3. Got to be honest. MotoGP is pretty boring right now. Ducatis and KTM bugger off into the distance and the only close racing is in the lower places that you don't see much of. Moto2 is the same. I always feel disappointed when a round doesn't include MotoE

this series is so underrated. Hard racing, drifting, close, overtaking all in one race. just shame , people just hating on it because it sounds bad and never watched single full race. i mean it does sounds bad but personally as long as it's hard racing I'm going to watch it. watching motoE race is like watching moto3 but with early 1000cc era body. no winglet a lot of sliding and unlike the early 1000cc era it's competitive

A BIT CORRECTION (or added info): 2013 season was the first title for Marquez, but at mid-season it was close between them. Unlucky Dani had a highside in Sachenring, which resulted in....another broken collarbone. Marc was seriously strong, but Dani was the only one holding his chances. Marquez still admires Dani's style, which has publicly said multiple times

He was liked and respected throughout the paddock and by the fans. You could see that when he got 4th in his KTM wildcard ride which the fans celebrated as if it was a win. I agree that he should have got a title or 2 in MotoGP but with his other world titles and number of wins he's got nothing to prove. A very likeable and successful man.

The narrative claiming that "Honda destroyed themselves in MotoGP" is an oversimplification that doesn't account for the bigger picture of Honda’s business strategy and priorities. The argument focuses too narrowly on Honda's recent MotoGP struggles, while failing to recognize that, unlike e.g. Ducati, Honda views MotoGP as only a small facet of its much larger corporate strategy. Honda's position in MotoGP is reflective of larger business decisions that are not entirely focused on racing but on broader technological innovation and a vast global market. First, focusing on Marc Márquez. He didn't "ruin" Honda; in fact, Márquez’s exceptional talent prolonged their dominance for almost a decade, masking underlying issues in their approach to MotoGP. Honda’s reliance on Márquez wasn’t a failure in itself, but rather a necessary adaptation to a sport where individual rider brilliance can make or break team performance. Márquez’s crash and subsequent injuries simply exposed a lack of depth in Honda's team that had long been papered over by his dominance. Furthermore, Honda’s position in MotoGP today cannot be fully compared to companies like Ducati, whose business relies heavily on racing success. Ducati's entire brand identity is tied to high-performance motorcycles, and their MotoGP success directly fuels their product development and sales. This is not the case for Honda, which generates the vast majority of its revenue from automobiles, power equipment, and other sectors. MotoGP, for Honda, is a relatively small piece of their overall business, representing only a fraction of their R&D and marketing budget. Ducati’s recent MotoGP success is vital for their brand, while for Honda, MotoGP is more of a prestige project rather than a core element of their global sales strategy. Critics who argue that Honda should have "innovated faster" overlook the cultural and structural differences between European and Japanese companies. Honda’s methodical approach to development-while slower-has historically allowed them to create long-lasting innovations that benefit not only their MotoGP division but also their consumer motorcycle and automobile markets. This is not just about racing, but about developing technologies that cross over into other product lines. For instance, steadily matured innovations from MotoGP in engine management and aerodynamics have implications for Honda's automotive and aerospace divisions. In contrast, Ducati, while more agile in MotoGP, does not operate with the same level of global complexity as Honda. Ducati’s focus on rapid iterations and risk-taking suits their smaller size and niche focus, but this model is not necessarily transferable to a giant like Honda. Honda’s slower innovation cycle in MotoGP may seem like a detriment in a hyper-competitive sport, but it reflects the company’s broader goals of technological excellence and cross-divisional advancements. Ultimately, Honda’s struggles in MotoGP should not be viewed as "destroying anything" (I get that you needed a klickbait title, but still), but rather a reflection of strategic priorities. They are less invested in chasing immediate results in MotoGP and more focused on the broader, longer-term impacts of their racing technologies across their vast portfolio. The MotoGP downturn is certainly a challenge, but to call it self-destruction in any way ignores the broader context of Honda’s corporate evolution.

..All bikes on the grid are all fast, they are just competing in seconds.. technically, other aspects are electronics, aero, accessories installed and the rider which pushes these bikes to reach the finish line first. Speakin of Ducati, how many times Ducati cheated? their banned wings and their Front ShapeShifter, what else? as fans, we dont know how they configured their engines to instanstly flipped the situation in MotoGP, from trash to champ using 8 bikes on the Grid. The truth of the fact, Ducati is just a common competitor in WSBK, and worst, they can't even snatch podiums in World SuperSportsbike. its only in MotoGP in which they can do all these cheats. And one more thing to consider, for Yamaha, the 2027 new rule to switch down to 850cc engines is near approaching, its a practical approach to stop the development of the 1000CC inline 4 engine in the Yamaha M1 and start diverting funds to develop a new 850cc engine. Just let Ducati enjoy the remaining seaons before 2027.

Hmmm this is more of a personal hot take than actual facts honestly. What you failed to touch on which did actually have a significant impact was the Covid lockdown in Japan. Here in Japan, the lockdown was much more strict and longer lasting which affected many industries, inc Motorcycle manufacturers. This put them behind on the arms race for aero and development compared to European manufacturers which had significantly less restrictions during Covid. My personal opinion: I think Japanese motorcycle manufacturers are not nearly as competitive now because they actually don't see the return on investment as much as they used to from MotoGP. BMW, Kawasaki, Suzuki are not in MotoGP but they produce worldclass bikes to race which they also sell. I won't be surprised to see Honda pull out of MotoGP in the next decade and instead get involved in WSBK instead.

From my opinion, we can just look from the outside to see that the development of the motorbike body has similarities with the Ducati, which indicates that the engineers don't know what to do and what is needed so they don't dare to experiment with the loss of self-confidence and identity of the motorbike that has been attached to them for a long time. for years and give it all up by taking data from competitors and copying what already exists and they still think the results will be like the competitors

There's been quite some discussion in Spain about his missfortune in motogp. Many say it's just the bad luck, but there's also the argument that his tiny body worked against him to become successful in such powerful and big bikes. Many of the accidents were provoked by the fatigue for the extra work he had to put, and the damage he suffered from the crashes would be smaller if we would have been a bigger driver. Anyways, him jumping in current motogp at 38 and even beating some ducati riders already tells you not only how genius of a driver he is, but also what a monster the previous generation of drivers they were...
