most of the times they don't. no profit with no losses is good profit. that's just how racing work for most of the team owner. that's why we often hear paid seat in racing even from lower class like moto3 or F4
The other problem with racing at any level is that the teams with unlimited budgets can add certain things to their operation (think hospitality suites, aero packages etc) and it IMMEDIATELY becomes a necessity for all the other teams, eating in to an already tight budget, even at grassroots events this is a problem, where there is always someone with more money than you, and any advantage they can pay for becomes necessary to remain competitive.
So if it costs ~ 2 million per bike for a satellite team, and Dorna give the factory 1 million per bike, then (for example) Ducati make 6 million per satellite team per year, AND get the bikes back at the end? Ducati could fund more than half their ~30 million through just satellite teams
it is terrifying that its still less and nothing compared to cost an f1 team generates per season 2023 cost cap could see teams spend up to 145 mil on a car alone
The hospitality unit is a one time cost. You also didn't mention off season testing, not to mention the big complaint everyone is talking about. The stupid cost of the R and D of aerodynamics and just the cost of constant electronic tech. No question your vid drives the question how cost caps need to be put in place for certain things. End of the day fans just wanna watch a good race and enjoy the sport. The over the top spending seems to be out of control. Great vid for sure my friend !!! You mention so many things I had no idea where involved.
Isnt Dorna would help out in shipping for far away races? Like they help in arrangement but obviously the team would need to pay for it? I am not sure if European race the team would bear all the transportation cost?
I think these costs are understated by 20%….The Bread and Circus culture will come to a end soon. Already the attendance figures are hurting. How can teams like Suzuki bow out and some BMW and Kawasaki will not touch Motogp with a 20 ft. breaker bar?
False, record attendances in Portimão, Le Mans, Jerez, Barcelona, Mugello this season. Also BMW rumoured to be joining in 2026 or 2027. There’s things that can improve for sure, but the appetite for MotoGP is definitely there in abundance. This was acknowledged by Liberty media, hopefully they can sort out the marketing and promotion of the sport to bring in more of a return for the teams taking part.
Ok, now it would be interesting to know how teams recoup this money and make a profit.
I was about to ask the same question
A factory team can see bikes sales go up with winning seasons??? How in the heck dose the satellite team make a profit?
@@cnealmartinsponsors + payouts from performing well
I imagine the sponsors pay a good amount. I also wonder if the tech departments of these teams offer services out to other companies.

you need 4 bikes, all the teams are 2 riders and each rider has 2 bikes
i always forget how much actually goes into racing

Vinales is cheap ,??? Lol... He was paid a rumoured 8m per year till 2022...
Can’t believe they do it really if it costs that much
Every Satellite team gets between 6 and 7 $Million from DORNA sponsors pay for the rest
……..well within my pocketbook…..😂😂
But well done breakdown. Excellent!!
