Dan, I thought about the issue after you said the plastic gears shrunk around the axle. I would try to clamp the gears without the axle in it until the glue or epoxy cured completely . Then drilled the opening on the gear larger for a slip fitment around the axle and to finish up using the epoxy to set the gears in place on the axle. I've been in the same situation before with larger models be sure to use calipers to measure the axle diameter first so you know what size drill bit to use.

Super video again. Would this loco be easy to update the motor given it’s the standard 00 loco motor and add more pick ups, perhaps to the tender?

I think someone has rewheeled that when doing the other detailing. I am sure it had plastic tender wheels and solid drivers.

Fantastic. I used to have 3 of these. Built a e2 body for one chassis and made a Thomas, the next was a simple re paint into James with further mods to be done but never got around to it and the 3 rd was either going to be kept as it was or rebuilt to resemble Edward. But a so called friend of mine stole them and another £1000 worth of 0 gauge and sold it all while I was in hospital for a month. Wish I could afford to buy 4 of these but eBay prices just ridiculous. Oh well

Makes you realise just how big 7mm to the foot is! Surprised as you are to find that Lima used the same pancake motor as in their OO models - be interesting to see what its haulage capability is. Some are good Some are bad

Obviously many different models. I have a Hornby tender drive version that is different. One side pick up on the loco, electrical connection via a springy draw bar, solid metal chassis (no separate weight) and traction tyres on one side of the tender only. Always perplexed by the many ways Hornby engineers the insides, almost like they start from scratch on every model. On mine, cant work out how to separate the chassis from the motor and the little gear on the motor shaft just spins freely, so no drive.

Great videos, I like fixing things as well. One little tip I saw online.... when working with clip-on bodyshells I now use guitar plectrums and one corner is tapered to a feather edge and they are flexible and cheap.

Great as always Dan. I ruined my old Lima 4f Fowler a few months ago( this multiple edits)😊with mix of failing eyesight and an errant soldering iron. Same was going to happen to my 1978 HST 125 until I looked back at your Henry loco fix. A minor adjustment of the retaining clip I must have bent as a child and bingo. With the exception of a weakened magnet we are back on the rails. Thank you. She pulls four carriages and the dummy..though takes a lap or two to build decent momentum

Maybe you should start a Hornby VEP owners club! I spent this morning doing a difficult job. My blue VEP suddenly juddered to a halt, and the wires going to the power bogie had become detached! I had to solder on a new length of wire and put on heat shrink. The white wire goes to the connection point by the capacitor and the green wire goes to the pickups. I have found the VEP a troublesome model. The wires between the cars can break, in which case the easiest thing to do is replace the whole assembly. The latest VEP is a bit better, but inherits the foibles of its predecessor! A job you can do is to drill out the 1st Class compartment where there is a solid wall where there should be interior windows. This fault has been rectified on the blue and white VEP and the latest VEPs. Thanks for uploading.

The brush springs on these Poole era GF locos are very easy to lose in the carpet! They are the same as the coupling springs, so either will do if one is lost. My wife is the hawkeye to find the little...... on the floor, thank goodness! Well done Dan, bringing this one back to life.

What about a baking soda and superglue mixture on the cog sets off the axles then run a drill through them once they have set for a few days? or find someone local to 3D print a set of geared axles for you?...... or make a brass/aluminium sleeve to go over the shaft of the plastic part after it has been glued together?... a few ideas that I would try myself and probably will have to do one day....

In the past, I have repaired Bachmann N scale split gears. We can buy very thin walled, small diameter, brass or aluminum tubing at hardware stores and also a store called Hobby Lobby. You can cut pieces and slip them over the non-toothed area with some thin glue like super glue. If you can not find it there, let me know the inner diameter of what you need that will match the outer diameter of the "boss." I think that is the word for the area of concern.

What about drilling a little hole through axle & gearshaft and glue a wire in (and additional benting the wire ends around)? By the way I had the same issue with my Märklin Köf's. After a longer period märklin delivered spares again.

You could buy another lima d300 and hope the gears are better on that one then use first as the spares one

Hi, Dan Lima/MRC made an Alco C420 that used these wheel seets . NWSL ( Northwest shortline) make a replacement set that is for a 10 tooth spur gear . I have a set I can send you if thats the correct spur gear .

Split plastic gears also appear in many other products like video recorders and other Hi-Fi units with moving parts, which is a design flaw.

I have used Hornby class 20 wheel sets X9846 on several of my Lima continental locos which had split gears and they now work fine . Lendons have them in stock . David

How about the Lima class 67 gears?

Peter's spares have Hornby class 20 (ex Lima) drive wheels in stock and the gear looks the same, might be worth an inquiry? A lovely loco , I hope this works out.
