  • Hello and Welcome to this video.
In this video i’ll demonstrate how to fit DCC to a Hornby J52 and improve its looks by detail painting the cab. These models can run superbly on DCC
    Thanks for looking.

Wow, you are a talented modeller, a flickering firebox would look the part in this revitalised model, great work Hornby could have performed in the factory, thanks for sharing.

Fascinating. Truly impressed by the detail painting of the backhead. Would love to have watched how you did this, even if it ran for 2 hours!

Those hornby 060 with the compensated chassis can be excellent runners indeed as the springing keeps the wheels on the track at all times.

I’ve always liked that model - had one when I was a kid and will have another, so thanks for the vid!

Great video matey - on mine i swapped the buffers for metal and scalpolled off the hooks, used a pin drill n fitted screw link hooks from the spares. Really made the difference. Cheers Shaun

I like that model. I think yours is particularly nice. You should that it to a crew to completely finish it.

The trick wilth the pin oiler is the speed at which you lift the pin out of the oil. Lift slowly and the oil runs off the pin as it comes out of the liquid. Lift the pin out quickly, and the oil doesn't have time to run pff, so you get a big drop ready for use.

And one quick question. I've always understood you should NEVER apply DC power to a "chipped* locomotive - but you cheerfully applied 9V from a PP3 after you'd connected the chip - was I mistaken?
