Professional articles in both Optometry and Ophthalmology journals have been discussing the illegality automatic kickbacks for cataract patient referrals for the past year. In this video, I hope to shed light a...

    Choose a cataract surgeon who can do laser surgery if lens power is miscalculated or make sure they have a policy to pay for a laser surgery to repair the miscalculated lens.

    I have a Toric monofocal lens in my right eye and its perfect. My left eye is due in another 6 months (NHS appointment) they do not have the toric lens but only the basic monofocal lens. The doctor said my astigmatism is very low so I will not nee the toric lens. What do I do - do I go private and insist on the toric lens?

    Is it better to ask for EDOF Toric lens or it’s better to have just Toric Monofocal? I need to be able to see piano notes well at the distance of 1-1.5 meters, distance and computer would be nice. And not compromise night vision and contrast. What do you think? Would EDOF Toric would be still better than Monofocal Toric? My astigmatism is max -2.00

    I have a very important question for you and I wish you will reply. I am a 37 yo PSC patient and will go under a catarct surgery. I have -2.5D myopia and -0.75 astigmatizm. I definitely want sharp and clear vision on my eyes. It is not important for me to see close distances with eyeglasses or lenses. I just want sharp & clean vision even with glasses. I went to a op. doctor and he adviced Alcon AcrySOf IQ SN60WF for my eyes but as I make some simple search it is said that while SN60WF cause glistenings while the new generation of same brand Alcon Clearon monofocal lenses has no glistening, less surface scratching possibilty, less posterior capsul opacification possibility and provide more clear vision. Some researches also said that J&J ZCB00 has also better similar properties like Caleron. What might be the reason that my doctor did not advice me Clareon? Could you please tell me which lens should I choose and why? If you know another lens type please tell me and the reason? If the patient would be your family member (i.e your kid, your mom, your wife) which lens would you prefer?

  • @TK_Mo
    @TK_Mo 5 месяцев назад

    I had my YAG procedure yesterday. My vision clarity didn't improve much after cataract surgery. After having the first eye done, I'd compare how things looked through one eye then the other. When having only the done eye open, things only looked slightly less yellow than when only the other eye was opened. Not enough of a difference to have had noticed an improvement has I had not been able to alternate which eye was opened. After the cataracts were removed from both eyes, there really was not much if any, noticeable changes in the appearance of colors, clarity, contrast or sharpness. I was still sensitive to bright light and nighttime oncoming headlights. I even continued to frequently needed to use a flash light to see any details that didn't have light shining directly onto it. About 2 years after, I was constantly trying to clean a smudge on one side of my glasses. I couldn't see the smudge unless my glasses were on, so I thought it had to be on my glasses. Eventually, I realized if I moved my glasses, the then realized non-existent smudge, moved on the glasses with the movement. Not long after figuring out my glasses weren't the problem, that eye got much worse, getting to the point of everything seen through that eye looked very cloudy. The looking through smoked glass description describes it perfectly. My other eye took over for the cloudy one, so I hadn't realized it progressed to that point until I closed my remaining good eye. Fortunately, my better eye which was starting to get spotty, held off getting cloudy until the YAG procedure was completed. OMG! Wow just wow! What a great result YAG provided for me. The result was what I had hoped for following the cataract removal surgery. I had both eyes done the same day yet still, Immediately after the procedure, I was stunned! The vividness of colors, they popped. Everything looked sharp with excellent contrast as well. Again, I noticed how fantastic the results were immediately. When I used my phone after walking away from the Lazer, to let the person driving me home know that I was done and ready, I though my screen looked awesome compared to proir to the YAG procedure! The Dr did mention that in addition to the posterior capsule cataract/opacification, my posterior capsule was exceptionally thick. Irregardless, I do think my eyesight improved also and I suspect my vision will need less correction when it gets checked. Now the bad part and it's really horrible and scary! When I got home, I saw how dirty my house was. And the grey in my beard stood out more. Teehee!

      Your assessment sounds like mine - not all I was hoping for after the cataract surgery. I'm supposed to have the YAG Laser surgery next month, and I'm really hoping I have the same result THIS time!! Thanks for your story! It's helping me be optimistic about the upcoming procedure.

    If you value your close-in vision...i.e. seeing your watch, doing DIY work, seeing instruments or people inside your car, seeing your phone (texts, etc.)? Please DO NOT opt for the Toric Lens. Since October 2023 my Toric Lens from Johnson & Johnson has left me CRIPPLED. Yes...I can read a license plate at 2-blocks, However, this morning I fell down 8 concrete stairs, head-first, because I no longer have depth perception OR balance. I was shamed into paying $1700 extra for the Toric Lens with the medical staff making me feel like a "cheapskate" for not choosing the so- called "premium lens." The worst medical decision of my life.

    • @desertvisioncenter
      @desertvisioncenter 6 месяцев назад

      The toric lens is monofocal. This means that the best focus is only optimized at a single distance target. The toric lens can either work for near vision or far vision, but not both. If your goal was to read a book, read your phone and see license plates at a distance, a better choice may have been a multi focal lens such as panoptix. In our office, we always review the pros and cons of every lens choice whether it is a basic lens, a toric lens or an extended depth of field lens. We make sure our patients that choose a basic lens know that they will not have their astigmatism corrected, patients that choose a toric lens know that they are only given one distance target, and patients that choose a multi focal or extended range lens implant have better range of vision. You can always call our office for a second opinion - it may not be too late to do a lens exchange to change your toric lens for another choice, especially if your surgery was recent (within the past 2 to 4 weeks).
