I like this doctor's smile. He would make me feel very comfortable deciding about cataract surgery.

Gives you great near, intermediate and far vision, as long as you don't want close details or are in low-light situations .... Sounds too restrictive for me.... thanks Doc.

Thank you, Doctor. This was very informative. I gather that there is high patient satisfaction in general but this is a refreshing video that goes beyond the usual rah rah about Panoptic Lenses. That's not to denigrate the lens as they appear to be exactly what I want. However I do have astigmatisms and so I now know to ask some different questions of my surgeon.
Nice job and I certainly appreciate how your are just clearly laying out some simple considerations.

I got the lens in. Both eyes in Oct 2019. Had glasses since age 12 but at
T age 74 I only use non prescriptcsunglasses. Great vision in normal lighting. More sensitive to sun than previously. Dim light vision is a problem I did not have before the implant. Coronas on traffic lights are somewhat bizzare.. overall I am very satisfied.

I’m very pleased with my symfony in my dominant eye, and synergy in my reading eye. I do close up forensic work with no need for glasses. I still use microscopes though 😂

Ever wonder why "new" lenses keep coming to market? Because the technology is not there yet. Everything is compared to the "gold standard" monofocal lens. Why would anyone give up some night and dim light vision as well as contrast?? Sharpness and detail is everything. My monofocal lens give me sharper far distance than I ever had with glasses or contacts. Intermediate is good too. Cell phone distance not 20/20 but good enough. If you do a lot of computer work you should be wearing blue light filtering glasses anyway. I do wear readers to read but you may have to with this new lens too. Night driving (age 70) the best ever. You can't go wrong with good monofocal lens.

You obviously don’t have a high Rx that needs to be corrected.

Each lens has advantages and disadvantages. I have very good intermediate, near and distant vision. It can be difficult to read in low light, and I will probably need a light reader for very fine print. The many positives out way the negatives for me. I am very happy not to need glasses for many everyday tasks.
All the lenses on market have been used in Europe for years before being approved by the FDA.
Your IOL may have a blue light filter., please do a search to check.
Cataract surgery is the most common procedure in the world. It is a major cause of blindness. There is a market to provide seniors in developing countries with new eyes. A steady market. There is another group of patients. The 55-65 year old person who has Lasik surgery when younger and now needs readers, aging eyes are aging eyes.
This surgery with the PanOptix or Synergy IOL could give them great vision without glasses. This is the market for the new products and technology. Enjoy your new eyes.

Good to have your comment since you've gone through it. Just listening to the exceptions with this lens makes one have reservations, everyone wants to drive at night and see close details clearly, why would I compromise with this lens choice. My only decision is what target refraction distance I will choose for the monofocal. Do you know which monofocal lens you have (e.g., Eyhance is supposed to have better intermediate)?

Thank you for this honest video! Could you please tell me if the same contraindications can be addressed to the new Tecnis Synergy lens? I am an Artist with cataracts, and I need to have an operation soon! Is Vivity also undesirable for artists? Monofocal lenses only?

I prefer the standard simple lens.
I have no problem using a plus lens for reading, and confirming 20/20, naked eye on my Home Snellen.
Why does anyone have a problem wearing $15 plus lenses?

  • @mencken8
    @mencken8 3 года назад +3

No, it’s not. It wasn’t for me, although I could readily afford them. There are pluses and minuses to every type of lens, and these should be carefully evaluated by the owner of the eyes before proceeding with surgery. My new monofocal IOLs are great.

I had NO issues with my "good eyes" (the other one had an OLD retinal detachment that is still being worked on - after 5 surgeries).. but the good one was fine- and I had panoptix and can't see sh.. after more than 3 months now.. Close is GREAT- here in the house- MOST of the time-- and some days even it is fuzzy... and in the car- can see the dashboard etc. great- but anything past the front end of the car-- all blurred. Road signs?? Forget that-- can't see them until they're almost dead even with the front of the car.... and it's beginning to worry me. It feels almost like he forgot and used a single vision lens for up close instead of the multifocal (which I know is NOT the case) but it feels like it.

@@michelejashinsky8409 Good point--- but , I know I can see well at ALL distances now- and that the problems I was having was because my OTHER eye had gone bad and the "good" one was trying to overcompensate.. it's all good now-- I have a terminator eye in my left- and the otehr hs the panoptix lens-- and my specialist that did my enuclieation confirmed it IS a panoptix and was done perfectly..(and he never made any money on that-- so....)
