ETA 2452 in a vintage Vulcain automatic watch
Просмотров 475Месяц назад
The seller described this really cool vintage Vulcain watch as running. It would tick, but just barely - which resulted in it running extremely fast. Several minutes per hour fast. I found something inside that might explain why. The watch had some issues and I Brough a few of my own, but together we work through it for a nice result.

    I think you've don't a great thing breathing new life to a classic. I agree, I wouldn't do this to a working specimen, but would consider doing this to old watches that weren't working. Did you use the original timex hands? I believe the M24 is 1.75 x 1.20 x 0.21mm vs what I believe you are using is a GL68/SL68 (please correct me) movement with 1.20 x .70 x .17mm hands. Fantastic video, glad you are doing it! Almost like putting a Honda K24A4 inline-4 engine in a 1965 Mustang =)

      It seems to be a viable option. I’ve tried it twice now. I think was much to aggressive the first time. That one was usable, but difficult to refit the center pinion into the wheel. On the second time, I did as I mentioned, tapping so lightly with the intent of not actually doing anything….lol. So far so good. Sure, It’s absolutely better to replace, but nice skill to learn.

    I have six, from the sixties, I’m planning on converting all to quartz, miyota 2035 movements. I love the look of the watch more than I care about the movement. I just got so frustrated with purchasing “working” movements that didn’t run well, the attempts at cleaning, ugh. I just want to wear the watch. I’ll label and same the movement and maybe some day someone will want to put it back to original condition. Also $125.00 service for a $15.00 eBay watch, a little to much.

    I have owned a number of ST19 movement watches (Baltic included), the feeling of the pushers and crown is different on all of them, even from the same brand. It just comes down to the ST19 movement, some are better than others in feel. The top pusher often has a double click, if you are interested in the movement (cheap mechanical chronograph) just buy the cheapest one you can find you like. If you have to have a Baltic or other higher end ST19 watch please understand you do not get better movement the more you pay for the watch, whatever the brands tell you, yes they may check time keeping but not feel / crispness. Honestly, get a cheap one and then get your hands on a Speedmaster or el primero.

    Baltic is one of the most overrated brands. $600 no way. Sure the dial is clearly superior and the case finishing is marginally better but not $400 better. If that watch cost $400 I'd buy. And i would point out that that Sugess and other brands make other models that look way better none more than about $250 when on sale. I bought a San Martin Bb chrono homage for $185 on sale and it blow the Baltic out of the water.

    • @WMIYC

      While I like what Baltic is doing, I agree that they are getting a lot of hype.

  • @daintiestquarters3411
    @daintiestquarters3411 2 месяца назад

    Hard to say which one is better because both have considerable flaws. The Suggess, for example, brings to mind the colors chosen by Breitling for its Top Time watches. The Baltic, on the other hand, has an acrylic crystal, which is a huge deal breaker for me (i am still in pain for having bought a Meistersinger Neo for 1,500 dollars, without realizing its crystal was hardened acrylic.) I actually like how the movement looks in both. Maybe the Suggess is the winner, because of its price.
