I also noticed one thing for the rail spike mod. One of the parts with the huge spider demon had one with smaller nails but faster firerate.

another small detail I noticed is that when they were going through the dungeon and mowing down demons with the skullcrusher, it and the sheildsaw were COVERED in blood, wheras in more open vreas they were clean.

Its not even remotely "fast paced". Its geriatrically slow, just so you can play it on a damn gamepad.

The BFG edition is absolutely worse than the original. BFG edition not only adds more ammo and health pickups to make the game experience far too easy but they also brighten up the majority of the areas and killed the flashlight mechanic. Some areas in the game were based around the fact that you couldn't hold a flashlight and a weapon at the same time. So the encounters would be fought in the dark only lit by the glowing eyes of the zombies, the fireballs of the imps and the muzzle flash from your weapon. It made for absolutely pants shittingly terrifying moments of tension in combat. The only good thing about the BFG edition is that you can easily mod in VR support.

One thing that drives my OCD nuts is the fact that the Slayer's carrying a gun in one hand and a shield in the other. Sure, it's cool, but I love two handed animations. I mean, how is he going to pump the shotgun?

What i love about this game is kinda like how in halo reach they brought back health kits from combat eveolved all within lore canon he should be slower and less mobile. It fits because he isn't used to his new powers yet as well as his weapons not looking as affective as the ones he would later get they do the job but in a different way which looks a lot like crowd control. Take out as many foes at once but seemingly not as accurate as 2016 or eternal.

Also “Guts, huge guts”

My only complaint is that the mace should have been a great sword. How cool would it be to one hand swing a great sword?

I think the main reason the enemies feel huge is because of how grounded the game is. A regular imp from Eternal is actually taller than the Slayer when standing upright.

Sorry to be that guy.. I’m a little sad that as a newer doom fan that the consensus that I get from the comments is that eternal gets so much shit and liking eternal is like liking melee smash bros lol I love doom eternal and I’m in the middle of 2016 .. I’m even enjoying the moments I have on work breaks to play the hd og doom 1 & 2 I just like them all.. but I’ve never seen a game get so much shit talk before

The D3 shotogun is also improved by a lot (or at least in the original ps4 port) so it's amazing

Im 2 years too late but you pretty much hit it right on the nail about everything wrong with the discourse surrounding this game. It has nothing to do with the gameplay itself but because either 1. People go by what they’ve been told or 2. It goes against their idea of what it “should” be. I will never understand the hate, It’s like saying the name alone triggers a deep primal impulse to loathe without any rational reason.

I kinda gave up within the community and the franchise. I’m 24 now. Working 60 hours a week. I’ve been playing since 2010. The halo reach era. lol. Sometimes I wanna hop on halo and enjoy a few matches within my free time but I encounter the biggest most low life bum toxic players of all time. Discouraging new players and pushing players like myself away. It’s quite sad actually. With the player base slowly dying you would think they would spread a bit of positivity. 🤷‍♂️ oh well. I had my fun. Time to put it down and move on to other games with better communities.

Looks like this is gonna be the most definitive Doom game since the OG. It just looks fun, like the new cool machine in the arcades that everyone wants (and fights) to take a turn at. Fun! I am pretty sure that it will require quite a hardware upgrade too. And at the same time i can already see how all the elitist high-horse-cultists are gathering skittles and preparing to throw it at Doom The Dark Ages. There will be that, for sure. (it's kind of already happening) Yet i believe that fun-factor will overcome anything in the end. They'll sulk, and be salty, call it names, and complain everywhere to no end - but behind the curtains they'll grab that shield-saw, load the SSG and enjoy the game like the rest of us.

doom 3 deserves a remake, to try out its ideas again.

BFG Edition for 2 reasons: 1.) Flashlight while holding a weapon. Yeah, yeah. It's just better, ok? 2.) Nerve Software's No Rest For The Living is fucking awesome.
