Oddly enough, i liked the tram level. Mostly because when i played it for the first time, i was excited to see something driveable. There were also turrets that work, you could actually sneak behind the soldiers and shoot the vortigaunts with the turret. Looking back, yeah i can see how the level is a little frustrating. But it holds a place in my heart.

Kelly Bailey has said that he put a lot of thought into making the sound mechanics in the game provide the player with adequate tactical information, and that at the time HL's sound system was particularly ahead of its time with its ambient effects and orientation indications. And the fact that all NPCs (not just the Tentacle boss) have their own auditory and visual range means that stealth is actually part of the game's legitimate playstyle, despite it being unbeknownst to most players due to the game supposedly being a fast-paced shooter. My first playthrough was done on hard difficulty, so I had to sneak around rather than play too aggressively, in which case I picked up on a lot of the details and instructions and actually rarely got lost or died suddenly. (Hard difficulty also enables some enemy AI not used on other difficulties.) I'd like to think On a Rail is actually designed to be a stealth level, and it particularly tests the player's planning in pacing and ammunation management. It's actually my favorite level, and I think the hate is due to most players not experiencing it the intended way.
I really enjoyed the video, you should do one about Half Life 2 and the episodes! (I also recommend trying Black Mesa, a remake of HL1 on the Source engine)

You can destroy the helichopters before having the rpg, the weapon you gain before finding the scientists is more than powerfull enough to destroy them.
For new players, I'd highly recommend Black Mesa. It is an almost 1:1 recreation, but on the Source engine. You get the updated graphics and level design that flows better with better balanced weapons and enemies. The best is the completely redone ZEN levels have been massively expanded and are 1000x better!
for new players who read the comment above: I highly do not recommend black mesa. it's just a hoax. imagine call of duty in the half-life universe, you will get black mesa. Don't forgive yourself the impression of half-life.

Imo, it wouldn't be so bad if the MP5 didn't get so messed up in the transition. I really dislike that extremely loud firing sound. Like an AK47 from Vietcong or CS1.6. Aside from that I also think that the five-pointed star of the original muzzle flash is simply one of the iconic bits and pieces of HL.
Yes, and I'm tired of pretending it's not. I've played the original CD version of it on my "modern" computer and I would say it holds up almost as well as halo combat evolved, wich I also played on the CD pc version. It's good but not as good as the original Xbox version.

Got Half-Life for free during its 25th anniversary and started playing it in January and... I was dissappointed. Don't get me wrong, the world was immersive and incredibly interactive. I really liked the start when it was just calm before the storm, messing with the NPCs and figuring where the fuck you're supposed to go without any guidance. Maybe it's just that it's an old game but I find the gameplay frustrating. I've played hard games before and I know bullshit when I see it. Lose 30 hp from 5 meter fall? Auto-aim not only for you but also the military soldiers, whether you use it or not? I really want to enjoy this game, I really do, but it's just not for me. Which is weird since The Evil Within is my favorite horror game series yet it's also full of bullshit. I just can't seem to enjoy this game which is a shame since I can see why it's considered one of the best games ever made.
There is no such thing as "old" games. everyone gets the same experience from the game. in this case it’s just a skill issue. just get rid of your pride and turn on the easy difficulty level.

I realised this is a strategy game. To use your arsenal creatively and make plans to gain the advantage. Going out guns blazing is quick and effective but often leaves you vulnerable. After this will try to beat Hard mode. I was very wrong, this game is great in all aspects!

I know it was made 25 or so years ago but god damn the textures need HD reimagining like the weapons. 2. The AI is horrible, unfun, and just kinda overall sucks. 3. The story is lackluster. 4. The progression sucks so much. 5. The puzzles are irritating and unfun as well. 6. The gunplay really isn't satisfying, I dunno if it's my 2,000+ hours of CS:GO getting to me, but the gunplay feels unfun af. 7. Enemies feel unbalanced, sometimes being way too easy and other times way too overly hard. 8. Sound design sucks, I'm not talking about it being compressed for 25 year old game engine, no, I'm just saying in general, the sounds suck. I would personally not recommend it to most people, but your opinion is your opinion.

m4a4 from hd pack is much better than m5 from sd pack. The m5 feels like 2 bottles of milk glued together, and the m4a4 feels like an automatic rifle.

They were turned on when I started the game so I didn't realise they were not the original ones. I never turned them on myself
