Nice review. 👍 Re: No Doom II weapons/monsters: Although you _could_ buy Ultimate Doom as a standalone product, it's effectively just a DLC patch for Doom 1 and not really meant to be a new game on its own. Anyway, biggest cons with Ultimate Doom, imho, is playing order of levels, with two of the very hardest right at the start. Also, in the retail game there are broken secrets on two levels, which could've easily been caught and corrected before release.
It's "Kinda odd" that Ultimate Doom doesn't feature any new weapons or monsters... Until you consider that Ultimate Doom is less of a sequel _to_ Doom and more a level pack _for_ it, one that is balanced and designed for the original game's weapons and monster roster. In simpler words, Ultimate Doom is no different than the Ultimate Edition of a modern game that includes all of its DLC.
Free mouselook on doom games is a good thing. I know its not the old way to play it, but honestly, its much better this way. Im not an authority on this, but I did play Doom when it just came out.
I played doom since I was a kid in the 90s and I love freelook. Makes the game so much more enjoyable. I wish they had mouse aim back then but they just came off wolfenstein and no one knew about Wasd and mouse look controls just yet. Horizontal Mouse aim felt like a weird gimmick. Let alone vertical aim.
Thy Flesh Consumed is basically a test on you. It is to see if you can handle the ton of suffering it introduces. To see if your worthy of completing DOOM.
The Ultimate Doom is the version most people played of Full Doom. Really? Nobody wants to play episode 4? I thought it was great! I thought nobody wanted to play through TNT of Final Doom.
One thing I noticed about Thy Flesh Consumed is that every level John Romero made ends with a Cyberdemon battle. In the original 3 episodes, one quirk no-one ever seemed to notice was Romero didn't really do anything involving the bosses aside from the Baron Of Hell. All the other boss levels (including the secret level on Episode 3 featuring a second Cyberdemon battle) were designed by Sandy Petersen. So, it always struck me that Romero was playing catch up in Thy Flesh Consumed. He uses the Cyberdemon every chance he gets.
The very first level of this episode always repelled me with teleporting enemies. I really sincerelly hate it in all FPS games. Teleporting. I just say no to it. However, Brutal Doom added grenades and a possibility to teleport grenades that is one of the coolest game mechanics ever.
E4M2: Oh no a Cyberdemon... telefrag it. E4M6: Oh no a Cyberdemon... use BFG + invulnerability. E4M7: Oh no a Cyberdemon... and BFG + invulnerability right in front of it. You know there is an easy difficulty setting if it's too hard for you?
@@aanproduction1516 That order was just based off of which game I felt like covering at the time, I never finished thy flesh consumed as I just couldn’t be bothered haha
Honestly most doom wads don’t have much comparison to a game such as blood for instance. Although there is some extremely difficult doom wads out there I will admit. In thy flesh consumed I maybe died about 5 or 6 times total

I honestly like Thy Flesh Consumed.
The Ultimate Doom is the version most people played of Full Doom.
Really? Nobody wants to play episode 4? I thought it was great! I thought nobody wanted to play through TNT of Final Doom.
Exactly. I just commented myself that 'Final Doom' would have been a much better fit for this vid.
great to see more people getting into the older games, we can start bringing back the rightful "Doomer"

You forgot the 4 barons of hell on the first level not just 1.
In E4M7 if you stand in the telepad and fire your weapon the cyberdemon cant teleport in if you are standing in the teleport point
There is a secret BFG in level 2 aswell, you can grab it through a wall. I did it on accident because I was dicking around
Great video, your points are well articulated and insightful. Keep it up 🤘
Nice video as always
What a coincidence, I started this just yesterday. Had to use a walkthrough for the first level because it kicked my ass

This video implies Beansprout never played Thy Flesh Consumed before. Funny, considering for how long he makes Doom content

Brutal Doom good. You bad.
Hakita and DOOM got Perfect Hatred from the bible
I did not know that thank you
Thumbs down for misleading title.
Also, what happens when this guy tries Plutonia?
Already did try Plutonia, it is literally linked at the end of the vid 💀 Plutonia is hard but doesn’t really compare to many other doom wads honestly
Why do you use free mouse look?
Personal preference. I’ve played doom a lot both ways I just prefer it this way

Thy Flesh Consumed: Doom II w/o the SSG.
this could have been a great episode if John Romero hadn't ruined it

man sees an actually good part of DooM1 and complains the whole time
GET OLD WITH DooM II ?? that's not possible
'Final Doom' would have been a better fit tbh.
