I've been an avid detectorist for 40 years, who also enjoys exploring, off road and bottle digging old sites in the Western US. My favorite detecting sites are ghost towns, military camps, gold prospecting and beaches. I use both pulse induction and VLF metal detectors. I currently use the Minelab GPX 6000, XP Deus 2, Minelab Equinox 900 and Minelab Manticore as my primary metal detectors.

Minelab Manticore Update Multi AT Search Modes Used In High Mineral Dirt
Thanks for the great video. Greetings from Holland😀
Does the Axiom threshold always drift that much? Is there any way to adjust it so that it's smoother?
@diggingwithphasetech it really just depends on EMI in the area. This particular site was across the raod from a military base. Most places I can ge it pretty smooth
@@RelicsRings Thanks.
At 5:40. Ground balance maybe run in tracking. You may find threshold useful even if you back it down to just below audible. Also thanks for sharing.
the recovery speed you have set on the manticore is reducing the depth of the machine. This demonstration is not correct
Thank you for this. It was professional and objective
EQX 800 supreme beach....
Why the stupid noise. Yall call some kind of music
Honest opinion. I am mostly a relic hunter 99% of my detecting time is for relics. I do love old coins and search old houses and sites that may contain them in addition to my field relic hunting for civil war relics. I used Equinox 800 from the time it came out till now, awesome machine! I bought the Manticore, and tried it at several sites before/after and alongsided my 800. I wasnt really that impressed. I think that screen is best suited for park and manicured lawn hunters that can only dig the "best" targets for fear of damaging the site. Its of no real use to relic hunters or at old abandoned house sites. I sold it. Bought the 900 as my 800 is now 6 years old and has had some issues (resolved for now) but I wanted to see is the 900 is an improved Equinox, I think it is and it fits my type of detecting much better than the Manticore did. Again, if you are strictly a park or beach hunter, the Manticore may be better suited for you, but for me, the 900 is where its at!
Thanks for sharing your video
Very interesting. I'm a bit surprised the M9 did so well vs. the M8 on the tiny bits. Thanks for doing the work Andy! I've been using the M9 a lot on relic sites and what little park hunting I've done lately too. It's kind of my all around every day coil at this point.
@DaveAffleck I'm sure a person could raise the sensitivity on the M8 and get a better response. But as you know, when you're actually out in the field, pushing the sensitivity often results in more falsing.
Would be great to see the 14x9 coil tek oval on the 6k. My favorite unless going for very small then the 5x10 coil tek is the pick.
@chrisc8856 unfortunately I don't have the 14x9 otherwise I would have included it.
Мышиная возня!
great vid thanks
Thank You Andrew for the very fair assessment of these Manticore small nugget gold prospecting coils. Great information as usual with no BS included.
A very good test of these coils..M8 and M9., is to see that each of the coils has its optimal range and sensitivity to a certain size and weight of the target...and where in certain situations one will be better than the other... The size factor of the coils to a certain extent can be decisive,, for successful detection... at least for me it certainly works well.... and it is important for me to have several different sized coils for each detector...
Hello man witch one the best for depth please tell me I want only depth for tresure in India
@@NarendraSingh-yx5hk the Legend will work for treasure and is the best value for the money.
That was a nice clean test. Enjoyed. I do think the Fisher AQ would have had no issues getting any of those in All metal, once you switch to the disc mode you loose about a 1/3 of the depth. Impressive on the D2 at 16 inches, I think the Excalibur would have got to 14 inches (all metal) but after that very iffy and not a signal one would stop for.
Still think the 6000 is "easier" to hear and less concerned about the "correct swing speed" that the Axiom is. Also, we run modified 6000's that have much better EMI and noise floor, we only run Auto 2 now.
Hi sir I am India which one best treasure detector
So which is the best machine for looking for bigger nuggets at max depth?
@PhaseSkater from what I've been seeing I'd go with either the 5000 and a big mono coil or the Axiom with the 14x16 mono
@@RelicsRings everyone keeps telling me to get the 6000 and I know it picks up really small pickers but when I’m detecting I’m pretty much only hunting for gram size nuggets. Half a gram in size is on the lowest end of acceptable nuggets for me
So is the 15 better? As in does it go deeper than the 11 ? Im kinda new to this..but I do swing the 900
@19jody72 the 15 has better coverage and I feel like it's a bit deeper too.
@RelicsRings Thanks for info.. I'll have to order one
Happy hunting!
Adakah dengan koil 8 inchi manticore boleh mengesan nugget yg kecil
I have the 900.. so its probably not worth upgrading to the Manicore in everybody's opinion?
So the manticore doesn't have automatic gb like the 900? And why is the manticore making so much noise?
The manticore does and it seems to work well.
Let me bring along my Whites TDi pro 😅
Thanks for the video !! WOW it’s Very Sensitive I’m quite impressed !!, I’m from Australia and it’d interesting to see how it works here in the very mineralised ground . Please post some more nugget hunting videos and info 🙏🙏👍👍👍 .. Thanks Again
I like what Gary's Metal Detecting did to the M11 coil its 5 oz lighter. I will look at the M15 see if it can be modified to be lighter. Thanks for the demo Take care and happy hunting.
well, after just half the vid, the Manticore is WAY overloaded, over maintenance (downloads, etc) and I never have the urge to go underwater to metal detect, so, as I now own the 540 Vanquish, I will stick with it and Never spend over a thousand bucks for a detector, after all, it is not my only source of making/finding money, lol.

Awesome video ! Can you please recommend a pin pointer . I just got a manticore and my current pulse dive pulse induction pin pointer goes crazy close to the machine. Thanks
I use the Garrett carrot and it gets along just fine with the Manticore.
You were trying to run the Nuggets across the centre of a mono coil the Monaco is not sensitive in the middle it is sensitive on the front and the rear
Hi at this moment are you still using the old software or did you update to the most recent one? Thanks
Most recent update
Awesome video! Really enjoyed these type of comparison videos. Can you please tell me what brand model pick your using? thanks!
My long pick is an Apex, the short one is made by Garrett
@@RelicsRings how do you like the short garrett?
@mase202 I wish the handle was about 4 inches longer, but other than that it's great.
Great videos ! From all the detectors used which do you enjoy more? Thanks
I think I enjoy using the Deus 2 the most.
Nice test. Never mind the negative posts. Do you plan on going to the Moon Lake Gathering?
Negative comments come with the territory. Some people are apparently just miserable and have to make others feel the same way. I doubt I'll make it to Moon Lake
May I ask you how does the AT Max compare to the minelab eq 800? Anything seriously different that makes the other machine clearly a winner or is it about personal preferences and where you use it?
I've never used the AT max, only the Pro. The Equinox is both deeper and faster than the AT Pro.
@@RelicsRings Yeah, well the only thing I know is that AT Max goes deeper than AT pro and works well on saltwater beaches as well as has better gb ergonomics and whatever the guys at Garrett said and demonstrated when compared (at pro to at max). The price tag for Max is like about 100 bucks less than Equinox 800 so 200 to 300 bucks more than AT Pro at least what I've observed here. I can get the Max to detect about 14 in (35cm) maximum somewhat consistently in soil that is not trashy and a little mineralized with the standard coil. Though in trashy places I don't really know which one takes the cake. (Eq or max)
Nice job sir! I have the Legend. It's my first and only detector. Paid $460 new! Price point, build quality, performance - all very good! Nevertheless, like any hobbyist, I've been looking at upgrading.... probably to the Manticore. And that led me to your channel. Subbed today. BTW, from this north easterner (now living in SC), the wild horses were awesome!
Manticore is next level!
Just amassing how many minnie balls have been dug and are still being found 😁👍
I use multi frequency.you have the option of 5 different frequencies to use individually or multiple frequency.
From other tests on yt Equinox900 seemed more powerful than deus2, sensitivity-wise, this test proved the opposite
What are the numbers for?
What are the numbers for?
Thanks.
Would’ve been interesting seeing the recovery and sensitivity increased on both machines, great comparison thanks
I set the machines up the way I hunt for gold nuggets. In the ground I hunt, I rarely chanhe those settings because of the issues with hot rocks and ground mineralization. Over driving the sensitivity or lowering the recovery speed usually results in a noisy machine that makes it hard to hear small faint targets.
