Coming back to this video because I thought the culture would at least be represented well in Natlan Yeah yeah yeah I get it. Genshin Impact is a fantasy game, and it's not supposed to be like the real world. Yet again, where is it written that a fantasy game can't have people of color in it. These guys can accept a world of elemental magic, flying dragons, and giant robots, but a darker skinned person is where they apparently draw the line As a Mexican guy myself, I was super excited for Natlan. Aztec mythology is supposed to go largely unexplored within the larger gaming landscape Then it actually comes out and looks like nothing like how we expected it to be. Like yean, I get it, Hoyoverse wanted to make something different and not literally replicate the real world. But I can hardly tell what it's even supposed to be I can look at Inazuma and immediately tell that it's inspired by Japan. I can look Cyno and can just tell that he's inspired by Cyno Maybe it's just because it's my own culture being represented this time, but Natlan just broke my immersion. Instead of getting cool looking warrior characters, we got an Archon that is wearing a biker suit and is riding a motorcycle. Like what? The Raiden Shogun is a samurai warrior, and Zhongli is a dragon. But what we got in Natlan is flaming motorcycles, flying guns, and shark surfboards? Like, did Hoyoverse even try to properly represent the culture this time around

At the end of the day it's their game, and they decide what to do with it. We can only decide if we play the game or not. Or we could create our own game and make it however we prefer. Sadly this is not case, and they do whatever they want with their creation. We can just quit if we don't like it.

as an eastern European this quest was painfully relatable to me. My country is seen as barbaric and uneducated, Americans and some other European countries blame us for being for so long under communism. It's so funny because black/ Asian people have and always had better representation then people of my country.

The way they're so comfortable with space and autonomy is incredible. Wrio and Neuvilette are both complex and enigmatic thus being difficult to get to know or understand. That's why I think they're so cool together. Wrio is a character I *get* super heavily but I get Neuvi too. Grrr... I just love them so much.

Im quite late to this, but i dont think people realized that Mondstadt never had an archon quest in the first place, it was a prologue. Either hoyo has plans for Mondstadt

It's all about context. Dain says Kaeya is a descendant of "Crazy pants"; that means Kaeya is directly related to him. If Kaeya was the child of a sibling or cousin of Crazy, then he wouldn't be a descendant, he would only be a relative. Crazy pants says something about not liking or agreeing with their(the Alberich clan) "interference" in his life. It is very likely that the clan arranged/approved of a marriage for Crazy. It is most likely that he had other children, both legitimate and illegitimate. He said clearly that Caribert was considered a "sin", so Kaeya could easily be as well(or the child of another of Crazy's children). Dain may have a bias to the Alberich name(Like how Eula is treated by some people in Mondstadt) I trust Kaeya at the end of the day, his "sussiness" is a defense mechanism. People are less likely to hurt you, if you don't let them get close enough to begin with. I believe that Kaeya is a very good bean. Love the video; please keep up the great work!

The difference of skin tone is just because of the lighting, if you toggle some settings ingame, it can stay consistent

The Children on Murata could have been victims of the destruction of the Ley Lines in Natlan during the cataclysm. With Natlan’s LLs being the most damaged and having direct hold on their memories and culture, it’s possible that one red-headed tribe began to wander Teyvat after forgetting who they were or where they came from post-cataclysm.

9:45 - You say something that confused me. "Mavuika's sister and parents don't have red hair..." But that's incorrect to an extent: Yes: her father is shown to have blonde-ish light orange hair. However her mother has red hair. I would say its a deeper red than blood-red. Her hair is a darker red than Mavuika's... But, both the kids (Mavuika and her sister) have red or redish orange hair. I realize orange isn't red. It's between the red and yellow spectrum - though it is more often on the yellow spectrum, it can technically slid either way. Which is why both kids have orange in their hair. Red mama + yellow papa = one daughter who's red is stronger and favors her mama, with orange highlights. And one daughter who's blonde is a bit stronger and favors her papa a bit with blonde highlights- but both sisters lean more on the red side of orange so while her father and sister can't be considered red-heads... her mother definately is red haired. So it's not like her red hair is out of nowhere. I would say her mother's hair is even redder than Chasca's with Chasca's hair color leaning more towards brown or even magenta (magenta is on the purple side of the color spectrum, from red, like Orange is on the yellow side of the color spectrum) in places.

I wouldn't even rule out that Nilou has a connection to Natlan. We know little about her parents, perhaps an ancestor comes from there. We also know nothing about Diluc's mother. She could also have had ancestors from Natlan. The tribe probably spread across all of Teyvat and passed on its genes. If they really came from Mare Jiavi, then they may not have managed to escape to another part of Natlan. But I think we will hear more about Venessa and her tribe. She is firmly anchored in the history of Mondstadt.

Quick point; Current day residents of Natlan are called the Natlanese. Natlanteans are what the ancient people of Natlan were called. Very possible that Vennessa's tribe was from ancient Natlan, not current day.

Its not the first time when they forget some link to a future Nation. Remember Rhodeia and Idia from Velurian Mirrage? They were Oceanids yet we meet 0 Oceanids in Fontaine. This happens because the whole plot of the people of Fontaine being water beings means that No Oceanids could exist in Fontaine any longer.

I also think that I mean Mavuica also mentioned in the Archon Quest that if the people of natland leave then they basically wouldn't remember anything and be disconnected to their history and in the manga Vanessa mentions how their stories and everything were never passed down after they left so after we entered natland and found out about the people forgetting stuff that Vanessa's tribe after leaving I always thought that maybe they forgot about their Legends and stuff and what I mean is is Vanessa's tribe leaving was the reason they forgot their Legends and stuff that's what I meant😅 it's 5 minutes to 3 a.m. I'm sorry I got tongue tied anyway what I'm trying to say is that I think the two points are connected in this way😅

I think web comic was developed without careful supervision. Comic team had just some outline of Collei and Vanessa lore and designs of playable characters and no actuall understanding of game world I mean every time they come up with original design (like Collei and Amber at their celebration outfits or Kaeya in his 70s-ish costume) this designs are too modern. Dottore was so bad they have to call him clone and kill behind the screen. Also Cyno's personality is quite different from his in game self, because his in game character wasnt created yet. Collei as well, but she definitely has reasons to change. What Im trying to say is we shouldnt take this comic as canon. Developers do some attempts to include everything they can in the game but theres some cracks showing

btw I think Ororon is more likely to be based on Ororongo or Orongo than Olorun and mostly connected to orongo in maori agricultural deity and in maori oro means echo or resonance and then ororongo means audio or voice in maori this is more connected to ororon in genshin who is a farmer and with a bat motive plus echo skills

Lady you never paid attention to the game. Natlan people can't leave because their leylines were destroyed and rely on the Wiyob and night kingdom for the function of the leylines. As such they couldn't leave since the Cataclysm 500 years ago. Vanessa is from 1000 years ago. Before the Cataclysm that rewrote Natlan Culture.

Vanessa was in Monstadt about 1000 years prior to the Travelers time. The cataclysm (500 years prior) was when Natlans leylines were destroyed and the Night Kingdom was made as a result of the damage to Teyvats leylines within Natlan. The Lord of the Night and the Wayob were formed at this same time. The prohibition/complication of Natlandians leaving did not exist prior to the formation of Night Kingdom(the reason they need the Wayobs blessing is that by leaving Natlans region they are changing where their fate is tied to, and the Wayob needs to increase their protection at the cost of energy to keep them from deteriorating mentally). In short there was no reason they couldn't leave prior to Khaenri'ah messing up and making the people of Natlan form the Night Kingdom, which in turn makes them struggle to exist in places with a different leyline system. Skin color means nothing in video games. It is the height of narcissism to have to see oneself reflected in fictional game characters. I'm fine playing elves, dwarfs, boys, girls, gay, straight, purple, blue, green, brown and yes, even white- whatever. People need to quit making other peoples games about them and their politics....most of us dont give a shit.

There’s a RUclipsr called ‘E’ who makes genshin videos about fans and shippers and it showed how crazy people are! She is really insightful and fun as well but does more social commentary than character stuff. :) But yeah I bet any hint of any ship puts the view count down because of all the weirdos that just judge everything on that basis! Apparently Zhongli Childe is the biggest ship in fan fiction or somewhere high anyway, it was in one of ‘E’ s videos on genshin ships. My biggest issue with the whole thing is when people say “oh well it’s just a game” is that Genshin takes inspiration FROM REAL LIFE CULTURES. So although yes it may be a game the aesthetics and architectural designers are based on real cultures and people. So when you use someone’s culture without accurately portraying those people it conveys a message of “we like your culture we just don’t like you”. And although not every Aztec or African person is dark skinned , making every single character essentially white is a huge issue. When the only think you have close to dark skin is tan that’s an issue. And the fact that some of the characters that are based on DARK SKIN AFRICAN GODS are literally so pale is a huge problem. Not to mention Xinyan and Kaeya are pretty much the only two “colored” characters as well as cyno if he even counts, and they’re all tan. Colorism is a huge issue in genshin, and it’s not even that hard to make darker skinned characters considering they literally have dark skinned npcs, they just choose not to do it.
