  • Kaeya's skin is gorgeous and fabulous, simply because he's one of the most fashionable people in the whole of Teyvat AND because he could be drawing inspiration from his deeper cultural roots and their traditional attire. If you enjoyed this rant of mine and my incessant assertion of desi Kaeya, you'll likely find my other content interesting so why not subscribe to my channel so you can catch more analysis videos like this one + you can share this with your friends if you wanna spread this idea around too!

P.S. I rushed to record this because I was busy this week so please be patient with my recording mistakes thank you!
The music used here is from Genshin Impact's OST (Hustle and Bustle of Ormos)!
    About the thumbnail:
The picture on the right of Kaeya is the city of Jodhpur in Rajasthan, India known as the "Blue City", which is fitting for him because of his color scheme. However, he doesn't need to originate from a Jodhpur-counterpart region in Teyvat necessarily. It must be noted too that Jodhpur is situated in the Thar Desert, so it matches some nifty theories about Kaeya's links with the desert, considering Khaenri'ah is situated under the Gavireh Lajavard subregion.
Also, maharaja means something close to great king and it's not necessarily me saying that Kaeya is some form of royalty who holds that title. I just love calling him my king but since he's South Asian, it'll be maharaja! I hope this term catches on!

What's weird to me, outside of the dismissiveness of people saying Kaeya isn't Indian-inspired, is how strongly people disagree with the concept of Desi Kayea while being open to accepting literally most other characters and their cultural inspirations. Why do I need to fight tooth and nail to defend the idea of him being Indian, when he is a brown man wearing Indian-styled clothing (in the event) and having clear South Asian references in his design? Like come on you guys, the Caribert quest practically confirmed that Kaeya has to be a mixed-race character and that Khaenri'ah was suspected to be close to Sumeru, so him having Indian roots is very much possible.
Another crazy thing is that while Khaenri'ah has shown itself to be mainly inspired by Norse mythos, the word Khaenri'ah itself seems to be the Arabic term for wind betrayers. If that's true, it indicates how likely Sumeru and Khaenri'ah were cultures that intermingled, further increasing the chances of Kaeya having Indian heritage. (Also, just the fact that if it genuinely does mean wind betrayers, that's a direct connection to Kaeya's most prominent personal struggle as a character, living as someone who was supposed to betray Mondstadt. Also, the source of this information is a lore streamer by the name of Minsleif : www.tiktok.com/@minsleif/video/7129876947705842987 )
Glad to see there are others just as hyper invested in Desi Kaeya.😔🙏

What we know from the lore supports this theory because: full-blooded Khaenrians bear the curse of immortality, while other khaenrians, whose parents were defectors from the 7 nations turn into hilichurls. Kaeya is neither immortal, nor a hilichurl, meaning he is not fullblooded Khaenrian and also that his non-Khaenrian parent never defected from their nation. Moreover, he was born after the fall of Khaenriah, so it is very likely his Khaenrian parent went out into the 7 nations and found a regular citizen of one of them to be his partner. Sumeru is the nation closest to Khaenriah, so by proximity it is most likely to the place where his other parent is from. My theory is that his full-blooded immortal Khaenrian father met a normal citizen of Sumeru and settled down for a bit until he was born. He may not even know that his mother is from Sumeru and what his heritage is, so hoyoverse could be trying to mislead by saying the skin is a costume because this will be spoilers for later.

This could be just because I’ve seen one too many comments recently saying how Kaeya’s new outfit is Khaenri’ahn-styled, but this rant was so cathartic to listen to. Just, YES, unapologetic enthusiasm for Desi Kaeya/Indian Kaeya/half-Sumeran Kaeya and saying outright that his outfit is obviously inspired by Sumeru and is thus hinting (for lack of a less subtle word) at Kaeya being half-Sumeran/the Teyvat equivalent of half-Indian! Also, I would not mind at all seeing more content from you like this!!!
As for your question on theories before 3.8, I sadly have got nothing aside from the theory of Kaeya’s mother being a Sumeran scholar who wound up finding and entering Khaenri’ah. A theory which can only be pried from my cold dead chest and which has been given more fuel by the fact that Klee’s new skin in 3.8, while admittedly also a costume that’s part of the play, is also implied to be inspired by her mom Alice (note that in the trailer Klee says she’s a mage just like her mom and her outfit is very mage-like, the connection there seems pretty clear). Considering that and all the other hints of Kaeya being mixed race and very likely half-Sumeran and the very Sumeru-esque style of his new outfit, it doesn’t seem like a stretch to me that Kaeya’s new outfit might, like Klee’s, be inspired by or connected to his own mother in some way. So, yeah, those are my theories (and my fervent hopes) for 3.8: whether in the event story or in his hangout, some kind of hints or maybe even confirmation of Kaeya’s mom being from Sumeru and his new outfit being inspired by her in some way.

    Plot twist he’s pakistani.
Joking aside I was annoyed with Alhaitham’s design because unlike Kaya he, looks far from being Iraqi… his skin is too pale… I would have also appreciated a bit of beard or mustache. Alhaitham is a big Iraqi name and the lore behind his historic significance and contributions are huge to our culture.

Hey! I watched your other Kaeya vid a bit back, and the moment I got the outfit I was immediately reminded of your analysis! The new outfit, with its style didn’t remind me of the other pirate-like outfits we’ve seen - neither beidou or any of beidou’s crew wear anything similar. It also doesn’t look like the outfits of American or European pirates. Actually, the looser sleeves and epic jewelry immediately reminded me of South Asia!

It thought Kaeya woud be half indian cuz he is also Khaenri'ahan (swedish/norway german)
Kaeya coud also come from kaja(saied like kaeya ) meanig jackdaw
It's a refrance to a poem/fable/story abt jackdaw and peackook feathers
He has indian elemant dosen't change the fact he is Khaenri'ahan
Tyvat has it's owen ''laws'' lorewise it dosen't realy matter were inl any Charakters are from it will always be a hc
In hoyos terms thay say no rl apply means it will never be confirmed

I think MHY is playing it safe
What I mean to say is, you know how sensitive and crazy online people are. Let's say Mihoyo claims that he's Indian, won't people nitpick about every inch of his characterization and character design? The fact that people are already claiming about Sumeru people lacking dark skin tone is already a headache, how much more if they say this or that character is this, and people who didn't like it because it doesn't fit their preference say "oh no, this is incorrect! My people is not like that blah blah"
So I think it's better this way, them making cultural inspiration but not blatantly claiming it because online people can be crazy and feel too entitled sometimes

He is, but it is unlikely both his parents are khaenrian, as he somehow escaped the cursed placed on that nation and is able to live life as a normal human. So it is very possible, likely even, that one of his parents never became a Khaenrian citizen, and as Sumeru is the nation closest to Khaenriah in the lore, it would make sense for one of his parents to be from Sumeru, most likely his mother who he never met afaik.

  • @S3ymira

It maybe possible that his mother is from Sumeru just a speculation. Because his father is from Khaenrhia and his old clothes more like Dainslef.
