What made diluc hated the knights of favonius more is that the knights did not want to acknowledge his death (as in, how Crepus actually defend himself n Diluc from a dragon attack successfully), fearing the ppl of mondstadt would lose trust towards the knights.

That's kind of Kaeya in a nutshell. It's shown especially in the manga that Diluc & Kaeya are pretty much the two smartest people in Mondstadt and generally know way more than others may think.

Kaeya definitely changed, after their father died he became wrought with guilt and came clean about everything as a result. Before I think he may have somehow been even more conniving than he is now, considering before that he didn't care too much that he was a spy. Might've even been loyal to the people he was spying for back then.

In Kaeya's vision story, it is revealed that Kaeya is an agent from Khaenri'ah who was sent to Mondstadt to serve their interest (his bio dad abandoned him outside Dawn Winery). When Crepus (Diluc's dad) died, Kaeya felt guilty and ended up telling Diluc the truth which resulted in a fight (Kaeya got his vision during this fight). They went their separate ways after.
But now Diluc know Kaeya's secret (and he's the only one so Kaeya put his trust in him noneway) they can acting in the shadows together.
Love how one of their voice lines in venti’s story quest were like “haha yeah, alcohol bad, anyways, do you remember when father died and you sold his house, diluc?”
This quest became hilarious when these two appeared. I loved it! 😌❤️
