  • Kaveh is VERY VERY broke and it will take a very long time for him to repay all his debts and attain the same financial freedom that Haitham prides himself on. Nonetheless, he is hanging on quite well and there are many good things about Kaveh's character that make his debt management better than that of some other people.

Dori has to right to change the interest, which she already did, raised the interest once. This conversation with Dori was available during the Parade of Providence event, but this discussion was missable.
Also, both Tighnari, and Cyno are aware that Kaveh is in debt. During the Parade of Providence event, if you read Cyno's, and Tighnari's mind with Nahida during their shared dinner, it was evident from Tighnari's inner monologue that he is aware that Kaveh is in debt. He wonders about when will Kaveh be able to pay back all his debt. Also, it's pretty much implied, that Cyno knows it as well, in Kaveh's hangout.
And according to Alhaitham, a lot more other people know, simply because KAveh cant hold his liquor, and spills all his beans when drunk.
Also, you talked about the debt Kaveh has to pay back to Alhaitham. It's pretty much implied, that Alhaitham only asks for rent, because Kaveh can't really accept help, and kindness, because eh feels he doesn't deserve it, and don't want to be a burden. (Kaveh character story 2). Also we have a line which clarifies that the amount of money Alhaitham asks for Kaveh is a very small amount.
Also, I absolutely agree on the fact that Kaveh is not a leech on ALhaitham. Kaveh does all the housework, and domestic errands, and he helps Alhaitham understand the world. Kaveh is the only one who's able to keep up with Alhaitham's intellect, and according to Alhaitham, he needs Kaveh to be able to understand things which are unfathomable for him. (Alhaitham character story 4)

I would actually argue that from our first meeting with alhaithem and his then direction for you to meet dori, that dori seemingly had quite a lot of experience with dealing with alhaithem and at first I was so confused by this since it was before we meet kaveh, but if alhaithem is often in charge of paying kaveh's monthly dori debt, then it would make sense as to why dori is so well acquainted with him and why she suggests after helping you and alhaithem in the main story that whatever intelligence she gives you will be paid for by alhaithem and be put on his tab.
I agree with you where I don't think alhaithem would ever kick kaveh out of the house especially since, as another comment already mentioned, he values Kaveh's difference in perspective his ability to converse with Alhaithem on the same level. If anything, alhaithem probably would let him live there rent free for the aforementioned reasons if not for kaveh's self deprecating guilt. He may "pester" Kaveh about the rent, but he's clearly not very concerned with the mora,

This is so well explained and thought out, kudos! I know nothing about finances but you made it so easy to follow along with and made really good arguments to support your claims. Definitely changed my perspective on Kaveh to an extent and I now have even more respect and admiration for him. Thank you for sharing 'cause otherwise I don't think I'd ever consider any of this really and I don't think many people have ever covered this topic so in depth before 🤔🥰
