2025 New Years Knitting Resolutions

Hi everyone, It's the gift giving season, so is there a better way to spend my time than to go browsing the internet for deranged knitter gift guides? Here I'm giving you my hot takes on the Strategist's Gift Guide for Knitters, and sadly there weren't as many deranged suggestions as I was hoping for, but definitely enough to be interesting. I agree with all your choices except for project bags which are a weakness. I love Atenti bags which are an indulgence. I have a collection of gorgeous bags and move my project from one bag to another as the project grows. Having a lovely bag makes me feel good and in my mind, shows respect for the project that I’m knitting. I cannot understand why anyone would put their precious knitting project in a grocery bag. However, I agree with the rest of your ideas and I have no interest in purchasing Needle sets. I would rather have a fixed circular needle for a project anyway as the way I knit causes interchangeable needles to come undone no matter what. I can also relate to your comment about single skeins as I am not a sock knitter. . I’m trying to use up my collection of single skeins knitting baby items as gifts.

    Me thinking you were going to say “Finish what I’m working on before casting on something new” but no YAY! Currently, I am knitting the Hebrides Hood as I had lots of worsted weight acrylic yarn in stash. I am making this for my grandma and needed it to be low maintenance. My mother just saw it a few moments ago and has also requested for a hood so I will be making more. Even though I thought I met gauge, I ended up with more rows which meant I picked up more stitches for the finished front edge. Not a big deal though.

    Michelle, I always love your episodes! And since I started following you maybe late spring, I’m getting to catch up on some items you’ve made that I have not seen you talk about. I have to say I really think you should wear that green sweater a whole lot more!!! I think that color is perfect for you. And regarding the color red being a neutral: I had my colors done recently and when you look at the primary colors, yellow blue and red red actually goes both ways. It goes into the yellow colors and it goes into the blue colors so I think that’s what you kind of were hitting on when you said you think of it as a neutral. People in any color way can wear reds! Last note, I totally agree with you on a single layer collar. I just think the double layer collars look more professional and store-bought. And I want my sweaters to look so good that people cannot tell if I made it or if I bought it. So I’m with you all the way sister! Happy new year and happy Knitting! (I may have already told you this and please forgive me if I’m repeating myself, but I have started my own channel. I would love for you to stop by. You are in my Top 5 episode! @MamieGraceDesigns)

    Curious: I’d like to make the Moonset Tee but out of a DK weight yarn. Do you think using the pattern for the sweater and shortening the sleeves will work, or do the proportions differ enough to make that a bad idea?

    • @easilyknitfluenced
      @easilyknitfluenced 10 дней назад

      Hmmm unfortunately I’m not sure that would work. The pullover definitely feels looser so you’d have to fiddle with the gauge a bit anyway. You could always knit the tee with a DK yarn and just have it be a slightly tighter weave? My tee is pretty loose gauge

    This is my ideal "Everything I Knit" video! I love these videos as a way to get inspiration and discover new channels. But often when I watched these videos from RUclipsrs I followed along with, they are very redundant and focus on too many details that have already been discussed at length, like construction. I love how you emphasized how the garment has worn and what you like and don't like about both the pattern and the yarn. Although I've been watching your channel for most of this year and have seen these projects before, I feel like I learned even more about these projects! Thank you for the thoughtful video, wishing you well.

    Love your aesthetic and that you wear all your knits . I encourage you to embrace your Ravelry projects page - it doesn’t actually take that much time once it’s set up as it’s all there easy to fill in. Whenever I start a project, when I have all the ball bands handy I fill it in and then once I’m finished I weigh what’s left and amend the amounts and the needle sizes I ended up using. And this is so helpful when buying yarn and deciding what size to make , I see you use the same yarns over and this way you can easily tell how much to buy. I wish everyone put in the amount they used, most don’t but it’s really helpful when planning. Give it a go xx

    My first colorwork stranded sweater is from Jessica McDonald. She has very detailed patterns and videos to go along with them. I had never done stranded and have tried English and Continental style knitting. Doing the one color in each hand wasn’t as big a deal as I thought it would be. I also have enough yarn in my stash to work completely from it without buying anything new for about two years, so that's what I'm going to do. You have most likely finished the Moby for a man and I hope the length turned out well but I still want to say that a pattern is probably supposed to be a kind of average to different sizes. You need to take measures from the recipient or ask them to measure an old sweater for the length or maybe ask some one else to do it if it´s a secret gift. We all have our personal body type so one just needs to modify the pattern. It´s not easy when you can´t try it on on the go.

    I knit both Peggy and Storm sweaters with folded neckline and then unpicked it and did the single layer neckband instead. I really dislike the folded one. It only looks good on people with skinny long necks. Otherwise it looks like a sausage around your neck and is very unflattering. So yeah, if you don't like the neckband, just re-do it - it takes an hour of your time and then you'll like the sweater much more :)

      Thank you so much! I do my best and do have spurts of creative productivity ;) But it's pretty inconsistent and there are weeks where I barely have time to knit at all

    I am new to watching your channel. You are an amazing knitter. You are incredible at RUclips. Are you a professional presenter or performer? You are so natural on camera. I hope you have fun doing this because I’m hoping you’ll be around for a long time.

      What a kind comment! Thank you for watching. I'm not a professional performer, but as part of my work I do quite a lot of public speaking. I love producing videos for this channels so hopefully I'll be around for the long haul :)

    I also have a "long torso" and I appreciate you mentioning that you do and how that comes into play with your knitting garments. Helpful ! My long torso definitely is a characteristic that I have had to take into account with fashion and garments. Lovely selection of knits. Thank you, and Happy New Year!

      It's definitely something to consider. I'm also taller than average (5'8"), so any cropped looks need a lot more attention from me in terms of length (like the Taipei vest, probably miscalculated a little there). Just another learning from 2024!

    I’m swatching for the Robinia sweater, it will basically be my first colorwork project, I hope it’s not a terribly confusing pattern 😬

      I managed to get it to work, so I'm sure you will too! Be aware that you have to knit color work flat for the first part of the pattern - I had no idea that that was harder than knitting in the round when I started the project

      @ Yes, I’ve made 4 swatches flat, and I’m not great at it but getting better slowly
