You overwhelm me!! Your knitting is so fabulous and you have achieved this in a very short time. I have knitting on and off all my life just started garments about 1 year ago - I am close to 70, therefore I should KNOW, but I simply cannot understand so many of these patterns. I also have an eye problem so PICKING UP STITCHES is simply not something I can do and there is no one around to help me with this… so I buy patterns and then find out - nope can’t do that one either. So I am stuck with raglan or top downs which I don’t mind and a lot of lace and eyelets (sigh). I would love to try your Ozetta… but there is another designer who just loves to pick up stitches along the shoulder and sleeve - or the neck. I think you garments look so professional - be very proud of yourself my dear and by the way I think frogging is very therapeutic, it feels great to tub all those mistakes and poor choices apart - I have actually frogged a few thrifted sweater and have thoroughly enjoyed the process of ripping them back! :). Also remember that colour work is a much heavier knit - if your climate permits this - and I myself am going to try mosaic this year - even if it’s only a bookmark - they say it is much lighter and easier and ya, never mind the hand you use - make it comfortable to you. Love your vids thank you so much Georgia in BC

I have made the same determination, no more big projects for Christmas, but then I decided that the bigger project can be for the recipients birthday, easier to manage the bigger projects that way I am thinking, spread them out over the entire year. I will see how that works for me for this year.

Awesome video. I’m glad your “resolutions” are geared towards having more fun with your craft. I feel so many people get so intense with their hobbies that they forget that they are supposed to be for enjoyment. When I unravel things and want to repurpose the yarn I only wind it up. I don’t care about the crinkles. It doesn’t change the tension or anything and it doesn’t change the fabric once it’s blocked… might be worth trying with a swatch if it is the same for you. Cause that would cut a huge chunk (and obstacle) out of the frogging and reusing process.

Don't be afraid of colorwork; it's a lot of fun; I started knitting 1.5y ago and made 5 sweaters with colorwork. There is nothing to be scared!

I also knit by throwing and have been knitting stranded colourwork for 40 yrs, you get into a rhythm of swapping between the colours and twisting them if the strand is over more than 3 or 4 stitches. Knitting in the round is easiest as purling is more tricky, which is why traditionally the arm holes or the front opening for a jacket is steeked … fear not the steek!! maybe that could be your next year’s challange!

I too have resolved that I’m going to allow a myself to cast on whatever I want this year. I have the feeling that by mid-year, I may be sorry that I made that decision, but for right now, I’m all in. ❤️

I frog ruthlessly, because I find it wasteful if I don’t love the garment and knitting (for me) is all about being sustainable and purposeful. Also, doing all the more complicated techniques, in my opinion, is mind over matter and worse case scenario is frogging. So why not just dive in like another commenter said 🙌🏻

I knit continental but when I do colorwork I hold all my yarn in my left hand! One thing that helps me a lot is a tension ring. They’re super inexpensive but SO helpful and make holding your yarn with one hand a breeze!

Highly recommend the Ali sweater for a first/early color-work sweater. It’s a raglan style which I personally love, and you rarely need to catch floats. I’m also a thrower and knit color-work with only my right hand, it’s less of a slog than it sounds!

Go for the color work! I avoided lace knits for years because I convinced myself I could not do it. But one day, I cast on and completed a beautiful lace scarf! Poof…reluctance gone 😊.

Just starting my colorwork journey, too. For my first project I’m learning how to crochet a camo print balaclava. This sent me down a rabbit hole of colorwork tutorials and I’ve learned so many new skills: changing color, locking stitches, floating high contrast yarn in a way that it doesn’t show through the stitches. The balaclava is taking forever, but I’m enjoying this rabbit hole.

I also knit by throwing and I have done quite a few colorwork projects. I always just do it all with my right hand, picking up and putting down colors as I go. Once I’ve gotten used to it it’s actually pretty fast for me. You can definitely do it! Maybe just start with a hat or something?

I am also an English knitter and I looove colourwork. I hold both strands in my right hand and it works just fine. I can’t make my left tension worth a damn so it’s going to be how I do it forever I think.

My first colorwork was a cowl (Dragon Tale Cowl) and I am a right handed "flicker". I felt that I needed to knit at a table to make sure my tension stayed nice but now I am more confident to do colorwork in my knitting chair and have a few sweaters in mind.

Happy New Year! I’m a new knitter… I started last March. After attending. Gudrun Johnston Fair Isle class, now I’m doing color work! And it’s totally fine to drop and pick up. I’m an English style knitter and that’s what I do. I’ve made The Stare hat. It’s so fun! And practicing Fair Isle patterns, like Gudrun
‘S hats or her new fingerless mitts is a great way to start because it’s always just 2 colors at a time! I’m ReneePgh on Ravelry and AdventurerKnits here on RUclips.

I learned to knit English style but have also taught myself continental. It feels so strange at first and awkward but I committed to knitting a whole hat, bar the ribbng in continental. By the time I finished it I had it down and now I use them interchangeably. I generally still purl English style but for all knit rounds or rows, I give my hands a rest by varying which style I use. I haven’t yet done any colour work but I have one planned for this year so I’m hoping that stands me in good stead. I am lucky that my tension is consistent across both styles. I am quite a tight knitter, regardless of which method I am using.

My resolution is to become a fearless knitter. Brioche, cables, lace, and mastering colorwork are on my needles this year. I have been knitting for three years and have not accomplished the level I know I can accomplish. This year and going forward, more focus on my dream patterns, a lot less focus on gift knitting. I may completely eliminate gift knitting. And a “just do it” attitude so I learn and master new techniques. Happy Knitting 🧶😊

Oh yes, I can feel you by loosing your knitting mojo when it comes to only in the round or sleeve Island knitting 😢. And just as you, I tend to cast on a new, exciting project and am right back on track 😊. With fair -isle knitting I have tought myself to "throw", as I am a continental knitter. But only recently I tried working with 2 strands in one hand and this time, it worked 🎉. I think we have to give ourselves time to pratice colorwork knitting 😍

Loved this video! I frogged two sweaters and re-knit the yarn in 2024 (one of them was also in a purl soho merino in the same color 😅). The frogging wasn't fun, but it was really quick, and 100% worth the effort. Looking forward to your upcoming content!

I would recommend a cowl or hat for beginning colorwork knitting. I would not recommend mittens or socks because you're dealing with small circumference on top of trying to keep your floats loose. I learned to knit colorwork with a Craftsy class and we worked a scandi style cowl. It was great! I don't know if it was that class or awhile later but I have been a right handed thrower my entire knitting career (until now) and I somewhere learned how to hold my motif color in my left hand and I'm very comfortable knitting colorwork that way. I'm only mentioning this because I was just diagnosed with CMC arthritis in my thumb in December. I'm not supposed to knit for 3 months and I love knitting so much that I'm determined to find alternate ways to knit that do not involve the overuse of my left thumb. Over Christmas break I've been knitting on projects using the continental method which allows my thumb to stay relatively stable. Had I not learned to knit colorwork using my left hand along with my right, I think I'd be very frustrated and not be progressing as quickly in the continental style as I am. So a long story, but in my mind, nothing is wasted when practicing a new technique! Happy New Year Michelle!

I do color work with two colors in one hand - one color on the index finger and the other color on the middle finger. Both strands are tensioned together with my pinky. It works for me and is less annoying to me than the two handed method.

Happy New Year to you, hope you are enjoying your trip. I am an English knitter as well with a few of the same goals. I knit the colorwork mittens "Patronus" as an accessory gift knit and not only was it a great gift, good practice, it was such a blast to see the pattern emerge. Not my style exactly but the end product for the effort and fun really gives you a lot of bang for your buck. The recipient is super impressed and that makes it even better.

The first sweater I knit was a colorwork Icelandic sweater. There was no RUclips or internet to tell me it was hard. My friend showed me how to carry the yarn and I was off. What I am afraid of doing are cables. I don’t know why. But there are people on RUclips who’ve only been knitting a year doing crazy cables. So I’m just going to shake off my preconceived notions and knit a sweater with cables. An easy one 😂

I feel like I can relate to most every one of your resolutions! I feel the same about brioche and would love to do a project. I think the thing about that that always bothers me is that I cannot find a tutorial or video that really helps with figuring out How to fix mistakes, especially if they are below where your knitting please share in your journey with brioche how you fix stitches if you can thank you so much!

It's a bit tricky to understand without showing you. There are indeed many RUclips videos this one I came across ruclips.net/video/jC47mZDSnn0/видео.html maybe it will help.
This year, I plan to select a yarn that suits my climate with more caution. Sydney Australia rarely gets any cooler than 6C so all these European yarns are too warm!
