I would personally depill this and then unravel it and use it in a sweater held with mohair! I have used this yarn held together with mohair and the mohair helps shield it from pilling since the mohair basically blocks the friction against the yarn!
Thanks for this yarn review. I've looked at this yarn before and considered it for projects. I won't be using this yarn now. Sorry that you had to experience this pilling problem. Your sweater is beautiful though. I am so glad I found your channel. Love your videos.
I’ve used that yarn to knit the classic ribbed hat . It was knit at a tight gauge and it was pilling while I was knitting it ! And it left a weird residue on my fingers. Some would say it was lanolin but I don’t think so! It gave me an uneasy feeling
I would be livid about this. Never mind the waste of money - it's a waste of your precious time. FWIW, I bought 6 skeins of Cardiff Cashmere (the DK weight that's really a fingering weight) and 2 of the skeins had the gauge of a lace weight. It was a disaster and I too spent a lot of money on that yarn. Unless I can feel it and choose the skeins in person, I will never buy that yarn again. And even if I can, I'm inclined to buy another brand that hasn't burned me. Thanks for sharing this info and saving others from the same experience.
I have about 15 skeins of this yarn, which I was going to use to make a sweater and a couple of hats. I wish I had tested before spending all that money. Purl Soho is also selling Nigh cashmere yarn made in China that sells for approx. $60. I wonder what you think of that yarn at that price? I once bought yarn made in China and it was so unpleasant to work with, I just gave it away to someone, but I won't knowing buy any yarn made in China. I don't mind spending money on Japanese yarns, they are so interesting, and they usually are winded properly. Same goes for a lot of Italian yarns and other European/British yarns, they mostly come winded.
I may have just gotten a bad batch. Also, I knit at a much looser gauge than I normally do which is probably part of the problem too. I’ve used the Nigh DK yarn which is luscious. I have a sweater I knit out of it which so far isn’t showing any signs of similar issues
exact same experience with this yarn!! I made a sweater in gray and the pilling is so obvious, and every time I wear it I have to spend an hour depilling 💀
Rightly so you are dissapointed and I understand your frustration oh so well! I once had a similar experience. That's the reason for staying away from Cashmere yarns period. -But I too would approach Purl Soho with your, in my opinion, not acceptable experience with such an expensive yarn of there's and see, what they have to say about that. I cannot imagine you being the only customer with such a complaint.😢
Yes, I guess I’ll have to chalk it up to a lesson learned. Purl soho do cycle out their yarns a lot, so I may submit some feedback and see what they say!
I love certain Purl Soho yarns for their affordability, colors, sales and quality. This is certainly disappointing and I appreciate your honesty. I've noticed PS doesn't keep all their yarns forever so maybe your feedback will be valuable to them.
It’s a shame, but I guess it was bound to happen at some point. There was no way I could love all their yarns equally🥹 they do cycle yarns in and out, which I appreciate, so let’s see what happens with this one…
I love Cashmere Merino Bloom, but have not used it for garments. I've used it a few times for cowls and scarfs. It is one of the only merino or merino blends I can were next to skin. I love the softness of the yarn, and some pilling does not bother me. Also, a comment about the price, Purl Soho has various sales thru out the year, including 25% off.
Yes, i think a full garment may have been my mistake with this one. And I do frequently buy from their sales - even then, pretty pricey. Still love PS with all my heart, but I can’t justify buying the poppy red color now :(
Hello! I am sorry about your disappointment. I agree that the loose gauge contributed to the pilling. I have used Cashmere Merino Bloom for a few hats (ribbed) and a mistake rib scarf. Really no complaints about it. I appreciate your experience that you shared. It is very helpful for us knitters. We will learn and benefit from your experience. I also loved that Poppy color! I have it in my stash- hoping to knit another scarf with it. Perhaps you can find out from other knitters that this yarn in a tight gauge won’t have this issue and you can give it another chance.
Wow, my jaw dropped when you said how much you paid for this yarn. So sorry this happened to you, but this is super helpful!
Right?! So bummed

I thought about that! But the yarn is already so warm, I feel like if I paired it with a mohair it would be like wearing a furnace
I have this yarn thanks for the solution. I think I'll try that.

Maybe it would work better for an accessory? I don’t know, but it was really disappointing 😭 thanks for watching!

Oh no! I didn’t notice a residue. I’m sorry you had issues with pilling too 🥲
@@easilyknitfluenced - also I really enjoy your podcast, I am happy to have discovered you .
Thank you for watching!
Geez, that's a lot of pilling. Your black t-shirt never had a chance! I had this same problem with Cascade Cantata and Malabrigo Chunky.
I’m glad I’m not the only one, but also sorry that you went through this too! It’s such a shame

No way! That’s actually good to know because that brand was next on my list to try 😭 very wary now!

But needless to say I only ever get it on sale
@@easilyknitfluenced Thanks, that was helpful. It is pretty expensive and does look beautiful, but would hate to see it pill.
exact same experience with this yarn!! I made a sweater in gray and the pilling is so obvious, and every time I wear it I have to spend an hour depilling 💀
It’s so upsetting isn’t it? I don’t know whether it’ll eventually stop pilling before the sweater wastes away to nothing 😂
Unfortunately that is the nature of cashmere. I have a store bought cashmere sweater that does the same thing. It wasn’t cheap either.
Such a shame…doesn’t bode well for the cashmere sweater I’m knitting out of Purl Soho Nigh DK right now 😖
Have you tried putting it in the freezer overnight?
I haven’t! Let me try that and see if it improves

oh goodness, the shedding is real there, yeah?
So real 😵💫 I didn’t notice it for a while but happened to pack a lot of dark colored clothing, and it became really obvious this time

Let me know how it works out for you! If it’s just the gauge, I may be willing to give it another shot!
