On the mans sweater. Suggest asking the recipient to measure length on a sweater he likes and go with that. I think some mens sweaters are designed to be a bit long because of the assumption that sweaters might be worn when doing work that will involve sweater moving up and down due to activity. Torso length as you know is a tricky issue too as he could be your same height but possibly have a shorter torso or even longer arms. Its a beautiful sweater and color and I'm sure he will love it but ease and length have to fit his comfort zone.

Yes, very true. I also think with wear, some sweaters shrink up - that definitely happened to the one I made my husband. I feel like I should trust Petiteknit but..it’s hard to 😂

@@easilyknitfluenced FWIW, I don't trust her process and always do my own math and modifications. She issues alot of patterns but I don't think she is a professionally trained designer by any stretch of the imagination and I don't believe she uses tech editors for her patterns. Sadly most knitting patterns are sold on a 'buyer beware' basis. It is what it is in the knitting world unfortunately. Good luck!

Love all your knits! I have yarn to make the Moby sweater for my husband. My suggestion would be to do a mid project block on the Moby. This way you will know for sure❤ have an awesome trip.

Thanks for a great year of podcasts! My favourite purse / travel knitting is the Sabai top, I always have one on the needles because I live in 🇨🇦 and wear a wool camisole under everything 8 months of the year. I knit (off gauge) in Malabrigo sock or similar. Its an easy pattern with simple shaping that doesn't need smaller needles for arm hole ribbing. Best wishes for safe travels!

I love the Ozetta sweater you’re wearing and the Harris hood is lovely. The vest in progress is divine. I wish I could knit faster to do all the things I want.

I recently finished knitting the Moby Sweater Man for myself (size L - I am 6' tall with a ~42" chest if that helps) and I'd encourage you to trust the process. When I finished the body, I was sure it was going to be 2-3" too long, but once I finished both sleeves, it evened the sweater out to be exactly the right length for me. It was also very tight as I was knitting it (around my chest) and it blocked out perfectly and has a good amount of ease. I hit exactly the gauge w/ peer gynt by Sandnes

I think men’s shirts are longer also due to the way their pants fit…they by no means wear high rise pants, in fact, their pants could be considered low rise and therefore the torso proportion is always longer than current women’s wear.

Before you blocked the hood it looked like the hood that Kenny wears in South Park.
    It came out amazing.

Hiya - with your Moby sweater, I was reminded of my experience when knitting a Nora Gaughan sweater for my son. i didn't trust the designer, made it shorter as I was worried it would be too long, and then had a world of pain when I had to cut and graft a new knitted section as the original sweater looked too cropped. I think that men wear their sweaters longer than women in general. Because we are used to knitting cropped designs for ourselves, the cut for a male aesthetic can look oversized. If I were you, i would trust Petite Knit, or get a person to measure the length of one of his fave sweaters and compare it with the schematic. Have a lovely hols in Japan x

Thank you! That’s a really good point - they’re also more fitted which I guess means they ride up more than the loose fitting women’s sweaters?

Men's sweaters are sooo much longer. Maybe you could compare it to some of your husband's sweaters to see if the length adds up?

@@easilyknitfluenced I totally get what you mean. When I try on my sweaters in progress, my partner often says they're too short, but I don't make cropped things - they all end a few cm below my tailbone. It just goes to show what they're used to in sweaters haha

😊a Yes vote for the white vest in suitcase... a productive option in the event of flight delays and/or ...:)
also, 🏊🏻 into color work - Highly recommend Marie Wallin - you might find that yarn in both hands is balanced and fun; she herself throws only with one hand ... no apology- 😊
    Fairisle Club AWESOME she answers emails personally and has wonderful videos to assist;
the British Breeds Yarns have completely complimentary Scrumptious colors - perfect spin for steeking too
Queen of colorwork in my experience
    we need several lifetimes ...💫😁

Hi! I've knit the moby sweater for husband, exactly to the measurements Petite Knit gives. My husband loves it, but we both agree it would be even better if the body was a bit longer still, like an extra 3-4 cm would have been great. The other suggestions given are also great. Men are just different then us women 😂. Have a wonderful time in Japan!

Everyones body is different, so you don't need to rely only on the pattern. If you have growth width wise, you will lose some height.
As many others have said, maybe do a mid-project block?
Then you can use your overall row gauge to know exactly how long you need to knit.

No, you do not look like a medieval executioner in your Harris Hood 😂. It turned out quite elegant, just like the Ozetta pullover. My experiences with the KFO merino, is that it grows a lot when washing/blocking. Ask your father in law how long he likes his sweaters. We all seem to have a favourite length. Thank you for sharing with us in 2024! Have a nice Christmas and trip to Japan ❤️

What a coincidence. Just finished my first project with knitting for Olive yarn. When I blocked it, I discovered that the yarn was not color fast. It was a brown heavy Moreno yarn, and the water looked muddy, dark brown. Did you block your sweater and have you worked with this yarn brand before and what was your experience?

I hope I can remember everything I wanted to say when I was watching.
I was literally laughing out loud when you were talking about worrying what the hood might look like 😂
Since you said you love cat patterns- Andrea Rangel just came out with a new cat motif sweater .
I usually take socks when I travel since they’re so small
    I think that was all.
Oh wait, one more. Could you measure one of your husbands sweaters to get an idea for the length for your father in law’s sweater?
Ok now I’m done. I think.

    • @easilyknitfluenced

I can laugh now! At the time I was genuinely panicked 😂
YES I’ve seen the Andrea Rangel cat pattern. I’m obsessed. I need it in my life.
I think I’ll measure my husband and subtract a little bit to get his dad’s (rough) sizing ✌🏻
