Love the way you mix up your formats and try new things. Also loved most of the patterns in your lineup. Newsprint hat and snow sweater are really appealing. Thanks
I'm a huge fan of Hannah Louise poston! I love that you pulled the will I/hot takes into knitting patterns. I'm a bit of a new but ambitious knitter (I have crocheted for years) so it's helpful to hear what folks think about popular patterns.
I LOVE this series! Please keep doing them if you like to! I screamed at the fake sweater scarf, and I agree with you on the snow sweater but I think I will do it at some point. Thanks for sharing!
Loved the video. Really appreciated how honest and respectful you were with your opinions. I might have added a couple more patterns to my Ravelry Favourites LOL
This video popped up in my feed and I instantly clicked because I love a good hot takes video from HLP. I loved hearing your thoughts on the patterns. Subscribed! I look forward to checking out your other videos.
I love the Snow Sweater and am so excited to make it!! it’s at the top of my list to make after I finish my Celeste sweater. To me the Snow Sweater is definitely just a winter weather knit rather than a holiday knit. 😊
Once again, you have inspired me to action. I tend to Favorite patterns on Ravelry after one glance. Now there are far too many pages of patterns, most of which I will never knit. So I need to get serious with your method of sorting things out in order to have a truly meaningful list of Favorites. Thank you for your thoughtful podcasts.
Another brilliant video. Thank you so much. I've just finished the Agnete cardigan and am delighted with it. I knitted it in Knitting for Olive merino and mohair.
Love this style of video! I think the Agnete cardigan is in my wish list too - but I think it would be easier flat because you're knitting both sides, whereas in the round, you alternate knits and purls! Do it.... :)
Ohhh yes you’re right! Either way I know this will take me forever. I remember as well with my brioche scarf that I was totally baffled about how to correct mistakes, so this should be interesting 😂
@@easilyknitfluenced You can totally do it! There are lots of videos about fixing mistakes. I have found it's good to be diligent about looking back every row or so just to make sure everything is right. It will be a beast! I'm contemplating it myself now.🤔
Hi Michele, on the Agnete Cardigan - knitting brioche back and forth is actually easier, than knitting iit n the round. You only have to slip one stitch with a yarn over and knit one stitch together with the yarn over from the previos round, thats all there is.
I love this kind of video because it usually either has patterns I haven't heard of (the main reason I watch youtube) or it's talking shit about something annoyingly popular.
If you like the News Paper look, Isager has a pattern sweater that looks that ❤ I think its old, but they just updated it - I think ❤ love your channel
Great review, thanks. More please, would like to know what patterns work best for you and how you decide what gets cast on next. I’m also broad shouldered and have trouble trusting the lack of structure from yoke style patterns.
100% loves this type of video. It’s nice seeing what you choose not to knit and why. Especially when I agree with everything you say 😂. I am going to attempt my first circle yoke sweater though and I am also broad shoulders with a large chest but only way to know it’s not for me is to try it. I’m attempting to knit every construction type I can at least once.
Definitely try it! You may love it. I’ve just found every circular yoke I’ve made myself wasn’t quiiiite right, meaning I rarely wear them and have given them away. That said I’m not totally ruling them out for the future
Complete brainstorm - it only came to me just now: the newsprint pattern in a Musselburgh hat! That way you can make it long enough to flip up the brim. OMG I want to do that. Girl, you and I are on the same wavelength here. The Snow Sweater was love at first sight for me, but I'm not sure if I'll ever get to it, but it's so subtle and lovely. The Cinnamon and Bourbon Sweater was another love at first sight, I bought the pattern, and I have two cotton yarns that I'm going to swatch for it. I'll let you know how the cotton goes for it.
@@easilyknitfluenced I swatched with the cotton yarn that I have, and I think the stitch pattern requires something with elasticity. So a cotton-wool blend, or even something drapey like alpaca would still work. Definitely try swatching with it, and see if you like it! The fabric just isn't exactly what I was personally hoping for. It's a slip stitch pattern and the fabric is supposed to scrunch up a little, and the cotton doesn't seem to want to settle that way in blocking.
Oh Agnete cardigan is so beautiful! There is another brioche cardigan “For The Love Of Brioche Jacket”, I have knitted one and it took me 6 months 😅 I was knitting other things as well and took a break from it, but still. It was worth it and I want another one in a different yarn now 😊
Such an amazing concept for a video! I really like the whole idea that you may like a knitting pattern, but recognise that it's not something that you would enjoy making or it wouldn't suit your personal style or your body. Such a nuanced take, watching this was interesting :)
What a refreshing video 🙌🏻 style wise, i don’t see myself wearing fish sweaters or intricate mosaics, busy patterns (or perhaps asymmetry) make feel overwhelmed and a little bit anxious. I do like seeing other people thrive in them 👌🏻 I’m also into toques right now, so keep ‘em coming yaay
The snow sweater I feel like can be worn from December through the rest of the winter. Yes, it says "holiday," but it also says winter. If I weren't in central Texas, I'd make that in a heartbeat. We only have like 3 non-consecutive weeks of winter here, so it's not a great option for me.
Madeira Sweater - just duplicate stitch the dark, occasional, oblong centers of the repeated patterning - Keeps the rest down to carrying only two yarns at a time! Good luck! Very much enjoying your podcasts that I’ve recently discovered.
The Halibut sweater was the first colourwork yoke sweater I knitted. I think google found it for me here in Finland because Caitlin Hunter's ancestors came from Finland and some of her patterns have Finnish names. I knitted the Halibut as a gift for my husband who is a keen fisherman. We had just celebrated my 50th birthday by treating ourselves to a trip to Alaska. For us Finns it turned out to be a dream come true. I caught a king salmon on Kenai river on the very day of my birthday and two days later we went Halibut fishing out of Homer. We both caught halibuts, but what we remember of the trip is the lovely scenery and the even lovelier people in Alaska (and my husband remembers the big Ford truck which we rented for the holiday😅). All my husband's friends now envy him for his fantastic Halibut sweater by the talented Caitlin Hunter (and the not so talented knitter Sari 😂)
I love your vest, it looks great on you! And, your kitteh is adorable . 😍 Yes, to the Musselburgh hat. I rarely knit the same item more than once, but I've knit five Musselburgh hats so far, with more to come. It's a great blank canvas, and the best fitting hat I've ever made. Yes, the cast on is fiddly, but I just worked the Magic Loop cast on. And it's a great way to use those precious single skeins of yarn and scraps.
Daily News hat is so gonna happen over here. I've knit the Halibut but changed to SPORT weight because the yoke is incredibly deep on it - just a warning. Love the Musselburgh but also recently purchased Ysolda's Forth hat which is also a top down, any gauge hat. Perhaps it was the precursor to Musselburgh? It doesn't have the double ended thing, you just knit to the brim! Love the KFO sweater, I hope you knit that! Love this style of video, too!
I think the Snow sweater is more of a winter sweater. I don’t see Christmas or holiday at all. It’s just trees in snow. Id wear it nov-feb. or as soon as it starts snowing.
I love your channel, you use such nice yarns and provide great insights on patterns. I noticed you used a lot of Purl Soho yarns but I haven't tried them before. Would be great to see a video on your thoughts re: Purl Soho!
…….funny I’m knitting on the Halibut sweater while watching. It’s a gift for my son. Yoke sweaters are not my thing either. Really like the twist on a pattern round up! Inspired me you to take a second look at patterns in queue.
Thank you for watching! I just haven’t been able to make circular yokes work unfortunately…and it’s such a bummer because it means most color work sweaters are off limits
I had to laugh out at the sweater cheater scarf/shawl. That someone actually came up with the idea 😄! If you like the look, it will warm your neck and shoulders without the bulk of a whole sweater. As we discuss creative ideas, I also love KFO’s festive sweater, but wonder wether it would be possible to make removable sleeves, so I could button on an everyday version when it’s not Christmas. Festive sweaters are fun, but I can't bring myself to make them, since they just fill my closet the rest of the year. PetiteKnit’s Agnete cardigan are on my list, too. Thank you for your videos ❤
Snow sweater in like a pink or purple or bright blue could be worn most of the winter …or taupe with white snow Or white with black or gray snow ( reverse what the sample is )
I was so disappointed with the musselburgh hat pattern. There’s no corresponding needle to yarn weight suggestion. More of a use what you normally use with this yarn kinda deal.
I understand the idea of Musselburgh is to just start knitting with whatever needle size you think best for the yarn and the fabric it makes and once you have a few rows to measure your guage then you follow the instructions for increasing/decreasing accordingly.
Interesting, I haven’t bought the pattern yet so didn’t know that. I may do what I typically do with hats which is to just start with a few rows and see if I like the look and feel with the needle I’m using
It feels like youtubers can be hesitant to give their honest opinions about patterns and yarn - I appreciate that you are doing it!
I notice it as well sometimes!
Thanks so much for watching!
Yea please to more of these! I enjoyed this ❤

Great tip, will check it out
i have your same qualm about circular yokes lol-- my shoulders are just too big!!!
I know…it’s very hard to make it work without it looking like a sack
I would knit the snow sweater without the trees....
Oh that’s an option!
Start that Brioche
Haha I want to!
I have been wanting to knit the halibut for ages but the yoke looks far too deep. Everyone I see that has knit it has the same problem…
I know…this is my constant struggle with round yokes. The oversize look I like tends to have a yoke that’s way too deep to be practical
Brioche flat is so much less effort than brioche in the round, because you can skip all the brioche purl rounds!
Ohh good point, yes you’re right!
